    The ship didn't "abandon" the passenger. The passenger failed to return on time. His fault.

    With more than 20 cruises including Carnival, Disney, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean. More than 50 dockings, walking off the ship and back on. In every case the ship has ALWAYS made stern warnings "do not be late, we will not wait for you". He was late, they didn't wait for him. Gee, what a surprise! Hey! DON'T BE LATE!

    As a veteran cruiser, I know this- Always arrive way before the time the last people are called or make sure your excursion comes back earlier than the ship leaves.

  • @vorndran71
    @vorndran71 8 лет назад +13

    Cruises always tell you the exact time their leaving AND will warn you with loud horns to tell you that there 15 minutes away from leaving then 10 and then 5, and if you miss them all your either deaf or you traveled to far from the port and it your fault for not getting back on time. Disney and every other cruise line always states " If you're not here at the time we depart, we will leave without you " so next time pay attention and plan ahead on where you wanna go instead of just winging it.

  • @dkh1020

    I've been on many cruises which includes Disney. The ship will wait as long as they possibly can for latecomers. But at some point, they have to leave to maintain their schedule. Depending on how long they waited on this person, the captain will have to cruise at a higher speed and burn expensive fuel to keep his or her schedule on trip back to US. As far as I'm concerned, there is no excuse to not be back on board for the departure. This guy was lucky. He should get a bill from Disney for the cost of the extra port fees

    • @kimberley45am
      @kimberley45am 8 лет назад +4

      It's not the fuel it's the port charges. I worked on the disney wonder and out ports were all very close so leaving late wouldn't be an issue. But paying for an extra hour port fee is extortionate!

      Good point, forgot about that!

    • @USFanLovesMinHo
      @USFanLovesMinHo 8 лет назад +2

      Exactly and the port charges are hefty. Can the cruise lines afford? Sure, but it does add up and if they waited for every dingbat (and there are many) it becomes a problem for any cruise lines. I don't think I have ever been on a cruise where they didn't wait for some passengers at least 20 minutes to a half an hour.

    A cruise ship has an itinerary to make. If you're not on that ship, and you're not with a Disney excursion party, then they'll leave your ass behind. They don't know where you're at, and if they're waiting for you for hours they'll get behind a tight schedule. I'm surprised he actually managed to catch that ship and get back on board.

    Carnival Cruiseline did the same to me and my two children. We WERE on a ship-sponsored excursion and it ran late. We hustled back to the ship (I can only walk/run so fast -- I have severe osteoporosis) we were 2 (TWO) minutes late. The boat was still there -- we could almost touch it -- but they would not let us on. That's why Carnival has had all the problems since. My curses work REALLY well!

      +Kate Hawkins I have to believe there is more to your story: normally if it is a ship booked shore excursion, they wait for you. Also, when they say "all aboard at 5 PM" they typically don't even take up the gangways until 5:30 PM. They usually have a built in 30 minute grace period, on something around it. NEVER heard of a ship departing 2 minutes after specified time.

    I was once late on a Hurtigruten ship in Norway. However, that was on an excursion booked on the ship. We were about 10 minutes late and we became 'pier runners' as we did not want to hold the ship further. In such cases the ship will wait or will have the excursionists brought to the next port.. When I went ashore on my own I made sure to know when to be back on the ship. Hurtigruten has a very tight schedule, as these ships are multipurpose working vessels: ferry, freighter and cruise ship. I enjoyed travelling on the Hurtigruten.

    • @caseyvee4419
      @caseyvee4419 9 лет назад +2

      +Kim Smith Not only do they give you a time, but they usually don't depart until 30 minutes after the time they say. Of course, they don't publicize that because they don't want everyone thinking they have 30 minutes more than they do. Chances are, though, this guy was more than 1/2 hour late getting back to the ship, not even close.

    I was on the NCL Getaway in mid April and we had to wait for people at each port of call, twice it was for only about 20 minutes, but St. Thomas we waited nearly an hour only to find that the person who they were looking for was already on the ship. I guess that the ID reader malfunctioned and didn't register the guy back when he returned. He was in his cabin and couldn't hear them paging him over and over.

    If you're not too late, most ports have some sort of pilot boat that will get you to the ship. It is much cheaper than to stop a large ship, bring it back to the pier, get the mooring lines back out,etc.. Not to mention the crew is busy stowing the lines and getting the ship ready for the open sea, so then to have to undo everything they just did for the past half hour-hour. Trust me, this guy won't live this down the rest of the cruise.

    I was on the Disney ship and they were paging someone right up until the last minute. They make it very clear that if you don't get back in time, the ship will leave without you. The time in Cozumel was 1 hour earlier than the ship's time, but there was a sign at the end of the gangway as we exited reminding us of that. Maybe he was going by local time....?

    At that dock on Magic 2-13-2013. Remember if you do not have a credit card and passport you will not get on airplane. That was the port picket boat that took him to ship .ps in the morning of 2-11-2013 we passed the C Triumph dead in the water.

    It`s amazing how many of these videos take place in Cozumel...however after wondering about that and also having been on a cruise there, figure it must be because the city is not accessible right at the pier...we went into town and everyone was required to take a taxi in and it was at your own expense...so it`s up to you to “catch” your own transportation and figure in the amount of time you need......maybe?

      It is also a very long pier. Takes while to walk back to the ship.

    I don't think this meets the definition of "abandon".
    They probably waited half hour for this guy before leaving. Be at your ship on time. That guy is lucky they sent a boat for him. They had absolutly no obligation to do so.

    Yep. P&O does this too. Everyone is warned what the cut-off time to re-board is, but there's always some idiot who runs late. On Pacific Sky we left some people behind on Port Vila, passengers as well as crew. Tough.

    The Running Man ? If that was Arnold, he would have just swum out to the ship and climbed aboard. This other guy wimped out and got a free ride.

    @jgraef919 Its the Pilot boat that brought him, when big ships approaches harbours, there are ''pilots'' from the local area that board the ships and help the captain navigate to the pier, they usually use rope ladders to board and leave the ships. Hope it clarifies :)

    They tell you in real clear language when the ship is leaving. If you can't get back to the boat before it sails, then that is just too bad. Nobody's fault but your own. Catch an airplane to the next port of call, and meet the ship there.
