Totally agree,I always take our passports with me in my man bag just in case, due to requiring any unforeseen medical attention that would cause us to miss the sailing.
For anyone who hasn't cruised before; one of the first things you'll hear over the entercom, ship wide, is the cruise director or the captain himself telling everyone to set their watches to "ship's time". Ship's time doesn't change throughout your cruise, even If you change time zones. Always observe ship's time. And, figure on getting back to the ship with at least an hour to spare. Not only will it save you from being left behind, but it will save you a long line wait when trying to reboard the ship, and you'll get to get lunch or cocktails with very little wait. Once everybody gets back aboard, they tend to b-line straight for food or to the bars. You can save this hassle as well by being early.
One warning: make sure you go to your phone's settings and look for a setting that allows world clock functions. Ask the captain what the time zone is and set it for THAT time zone. That way, you won't have to worry about it changing back and forth one hour when you step off the ship! Had that happen to me when flying to Orlando, FL once. Fortunately, I found out about this when stepping off the plane, not when heading back!
It’s also important to book excursions through the cruise line and not a 3rd party because you will not get left if that excursion is late or something happens. The ship will wait for you until you get back so you’re basically guaranteed to not get left by booking through the cruise line!
@@desireer1050 True, but you should still read up on reviews about the excursion if you can. The cruise line could be thinking about "breaking up" with them because they were late too many times. This suggestion was passed on to me by another RUclipsr. She searched for the dreadful tour operator that was very late getting her back to the ship. No need for her to worry, the cruise line broke up with them and booked tours through a different one.
You don't have to get back early. They leave on time. As long as you're within walking distance of the ship you'll be fine. They have a re-embark time and a departure time. As long as you're walking up the dock at the re-embark time you're good. It's 30 minutes to an hour difference.
Their body language tells the whole story. The swagger and, “We’re here now” arm waving changed quickly once they realized the world, in fact, doesn’t revolve around them.
I like how they walk towards the far end as if to have a polite conversation with the guy standing on deck to make sure he knew that they needed to get onboard. And then the satisfaction of seeing the thrusters rev up and hearing the horn blow was just the official goodbye.
If I'm not mistaken the 3 horn blasts was the ship signaling that it's about to reverse. Still it also fit perfectly with the scene we were watching :)
Watching this never gets old. Some people say poor them...I say get back on time. Or book your excursion through the cruiseline. This and the other videos showing people running to the pier, convinces me to always get back early
I could see some situations where it wouldn’t be your fault. Taxi breaks down or accident brings whole city to a standstill and you can’t get back despite leaving plenty of time, but that doesn’t seem to be the case in most of these situations.
@Jessica Scoe that's why I say book through the cruiseline. If they are late, the ship will wait. I've only done one excursion using a 3rd party. I made sure I got back at least 2 hours before we set sail.
And yet there will be people like this who seem to assume even buses are like taxis or something. I was on one in Washington DC and it was sitting at an intersection waiting to make a left turn when some random guy walks into traffic and knocks on the door demanding to be let on. It was no where near a stop either. Bus driver said no and so the guy whipped out his phone and started filming the driver through the windshield while standing IN FRONT of the bus saying he was going to get him fired. It's really frightening how many people (like these two) have this entitled attitude.
My dad, A high ranking military officer always said "If you're not 15 minutes early you're late". I have lived by that rule and have never been late for anything. Especially a trip on a ship, plane or train.
Your Dad is cool, reminds me of my favorite movie line. "If you ain't first you're last!" lol My Dad was British military, he is punctual as hell and always derides me for my less than stellar punctuality. :)
Air Force retiree here. If we had an 0600 briefing, if you weren't in your seats at 0550, you were late! At 0600 doors shut and locked and time hack taken.
I feel sorry for these people. Something similar almost happened to me and my partner once. We were on a private tour when the vehicle we were on broke down on the way back to ship. The company we were doing the tour with started arranging a car to pick us up right away. We managed to find a number to call the cruise line and they patched us through to the ship. Spoke to the captain and explained to him that we were gonna be 20 minutes late and asked what he could do. He said he would "hold the ship up no worries and will make up the extra time on the water". I will forever be thankful to that captain for his kindness. There are still great people in this world!
Maybe they have an arrangement with the tour group you were on or just very lucky! But, this exactly why it's often better to pay more for the ship's tour..they wait no matter what happens to the tour!!
I worked on cruise ships for several years and now I'm cruising twice a year, always with Royal. I have NEVER seen a ship leave on time because someone was always late, despite all kinds of warnings and announcements. Most people probably do not realize this, but extra time at the pier costs the ship money. So, fair warning, be on time!
Brian Viglietti -Not only that, sir, but also winds, tides, burning fuel during dwell time, and incoming traffic all conspire to require an on time departure.

Thank you for posting this. I enjoyed watching them act surprised that the ship didn't wait for them. This is how things work in the real world. Be on time or get left behind.
lol it’s a cruise ship they have sympathy they legit waited 15-20 minutes for the two, when you book your cruise you know how long you will be at each area, they knew long before getting onboard that ship and even when they got off that ship they knew what time they had to be back. This is human error and the cruise ships have a schedule to. Say someone showed up to work late would a job keep you working, would they make everyone else wait for you, no because they have a schedule they need to stick to
Me and my wife went on a 7 day Mediterranean cruise out of Barcelona Spain back in 2015 on the Norwegian Epic, there was this couple who thought they were above everybody else taking there sweet time coming back to the ship 35min after the time they were supposed to be on the ship. The captain got tired of waiting for them and they got left behind 3 times from 3 different ports..... me and my wife and our ship mates in the balcony cabin next to us were cracking up laughing seeing them running down the pier trying to stop the ship each time.....it was hilarious.
Yea that was crazy, you’d think after the first time they would be on time but I guess not seeing they let it happen 2 more times.....and agreed, it does cost a lot of money going from port to port on your own dime trying to catch back up with the ship.
@@illhaveanother4365 it's tacky to attempt to correct someone's Grammer in casual chat. Although he'll (likely) learn from it, your reputation as an ass won't recover.
You have to keep in mind, these people weren't just a couple minutes late, they weren't even 15-20 minutes late, the back on board time was probably 15-30 minutes before the cast off preparations were made, and then the ship waited the extra 15 or 20 minutes for this one couple... so, this one couple's arrival was probably closer to a full hour after the final time for them to be back on board. Sorry, not sorry.
Too bad so sad. Passengers don’t realize that the cruise lines are faced with heavy fines if they don’t leave the dock on time. If the ship doesn’t leave on time, that means the next ship will also be late docking. It’s chain reaction. No different than catching your flight at the airport.
When I was on a cruise. I always subtracted one hour from the time they told us to be back and the girl I was with was of the same mind set. Worked out great for us. No stress and a leisurely adventure.
no waiting in line either. Same here. I'd rather be back an hour before they say to get on and not stress it. Missing the ship has to be one of the worst feelings, especially if you're just in your swim suit and cover up.
That boat hold 5,518 passengers. 5,516 of them were appropriately able to follow directions. If I were the captain, i would have tried to splash water in their face on the way out, just for being douche bags.

I remember that same feeling when I missed the bus in middle school and the driver kept driving. That was a special day. I learned that the world does not owe me anything 😋
My sister used to pick up grade school students at the school where her own daughter also attended. She did it for the extra money and she was there picking up her own kid anyway. She would often complain of this one boy that was always holding everyone up because he wouldn’t come out of the building with everyone else and was inside playing around while everyone else was sitting in the SUV waiting for him to come strolling out with a smile on his face because he felt so important that everyone was waiting for him. She talked to his parents about it and it would straighten out for a few days and then he was back to his old behavior again. One day she was not able to pick up the kids and asked me if I would take her SUV and do it for her. She told me where to park and the kids knew where to look for me. They all got in except HIM. One of the kids asked me if I wanted him to go in and look for late kid. I said no, and started the SUV and drove away. All the kids in van got quiet and you should have seen the looks on their faces. Later my sister yelled at me and asked me why I left his sorry ass behind and that his mother was pissed off and my sister was concerned about losing a customer. Well…… you can guess what I told her. She still did ask me every now and then to pick up the kids for her after that and on those days she would make sure to tell that kids mother that I was the one picking up the kids that day so the mother could tell her little darling that he better be on time today. Strangely enough he always seemed to be on time for those days. I wonder why that was?

The real reason cruise ships don't wait is not because they're on a "tight schedule". It's because every minute they're in port after their scheduled departure time they're billed for by the port.
This is why you need to get back to the ship an hour or two in advance. However, what most people don't realize is that each Cruise Line have a representative on the island that will assist any cruiser's left behind get to the next port of call at their expense, and it's a good idea to carry your Passport and ID at all times. The only time a ship will wait, is if you booked an excursion through that cruise line or on the ship, and that for some unforeseen reason they return to the ship late. Otherwise, SHIPS WAIT FOR NO ONE!!!!
Debbie Brooks not an hour or two. The ships master requires you to be back on board 30 minutes prior to sailing. What most cruisers have no clue about is not only is your tardiness screwing up possibly 3000 passengers on your ship, but also the other ship with 4000 passengers waiting for your ship to leave so that line can get in.
Once we were on a cruise and we went to Bruges. Once everyone was in the city the trains went on strike and around 300 of us were stranded. The cruise line staff were stuck there too. The cruise sent out taxis and coaches for us all. We all arrived back 4 hours late but i thank that cruise for waiting for us all!
@COMI O CÚ DO BLUEZÃO E A BOCETA DA THALIA You don't need a passport to leave a country... I left the country and went on a cruise with my birth certificate and ID because I didn't have time to get a passport.
I've missed the school before. Got there just as it was leaving. The feeling is gut wrenching. You feel abandoned. Couldn't imagine how it feels to miss your cruise ship.
On one cruise, the ship left 4 people behind AFTER port authorities forced the captain to wait an additional 15 minutes. Later, at a Q&A with the Captain and officers, the subject came up. The Captain didn't want to wait the extra time because 4,000+ other people managed to get back on time.
Joe Pasquale The only thing unusual about what you said is that they waited 15 minutes. Cruise ships have to stay on their schedule, they usually don’t wait at all.
@@jimgood1949 depending on how important the person is left behind--like an entertainment crew member where the show must go on-they will send a tug boat. Years ago when I worked for the feds at the seaport the QE 2 was running late so they had a tug boat pick us up at the pier and took us to the ship while it was still moving. They opened an entrance and grabbed each of us by the hand and pulled us on board.
@Chris Purdon in one video the captain calculated that it's best to leave port without filling up with fuel as the tugboat bringing in the fuel tanker was late. He said if he waits it will take a few hours to fill up with fuel which would throw the ship off schedule. So he calculated he had enough fuel to get to the next port where the fuel tanker can meet his ship.
they take your cash promise to lok after you keave you stranded . they were not in gear one vhf message to bridge hold 1 minute. heartless money grabbers and what if they had left their young kids on board??
It’s nearly impossible to blame any ship or any cruise line for leaving without passengers. They give multiple announcements as to when to be back on board. It’s up to the passengers to be back on board and on time. If the ship leaves at 4pm, I’m back on board no later than 3pm. These ships will not wait for you. However, if you book an excursion through the cruise line and it’s late getting back, they’ll wait. If you don’t book an excursion through the cruise line (but by a third party), then you may have a good chance of being left behind by the ship.
This Captain should be recognized as an irresponsible person. He should know all men not on board. As well when they are on jetty and thrusters not yet started prople are visible on jetty. How he can ignored? What maritime law says?????
I saw a group of 6 people miss the boat in 2003 in Nassau. The ship had been gone already an hour. We heard them yelling why did they leave us from 9 decks up.
We always start making our way back to the boat 2 hours before departure time so we can get on board relaxed , order a drink and sit on the upper deck and watch the people running to make it before they pull up the gate ...

Before going to my first cruise with my family in June of 2019 on the Vista I was advised thank God by my aunt who cruised quite some time and she advised me the first thing to remember to be back on that ship on time and me and my family felt proud we did 😊❤️
Take a proper watch and set it to 'Ship Time'. Devices, like your phone, can reset to local time automatically. This won't help those selfish people who think that the ship will wait for them anyway.
My sister warned me about missing the boat, when I went on a cruise back in the 1990s. She had been on one....& said there was a couple who took their sweet time in returning to the ship. The wife ended up being ferried out to the ship, but for some reason, her husband missed THAT last-minute ride. When the woman arrived ( the ship was already moving...) she had to climb a cargo net to get aboard. She was taken to the bridge, where the captain gave her a stern lecture. At the evening meal, someone went over the loudspeaker, mentioning that Mrs. 'Smith' would be dining alone........and that Mr. 'Smith' would be flying back to their home port, on his own. LOL.
They weren't really passengers. They waited around the corner and watched until the gangway was removed then ran for the ship pretending they just missed it.
What anxiety they did it to them self. Who should feel for are the others cruisers that had their cruise changed because of people that can't fallow simple directions.
I worked in the tourist travel industry driving charter buses. They carry 40 to 47 passengers. I always had a couple, meaning, husband and wife, boy friend girl friend, two friends, etc. that was continuously late.. I can't imagine how big this problem is on a ship with thousands of people. I have left people behind also. There are always people that think they are more special or more entitled than every one else.
I have seen this happen .It is a very expensive event to fix. Harbor Master has to confirm people belong on the liner, arrange a water taxi or other craft to pick up late people , board them ,and transport them to meet the cruise ship just out side harbor, where captain has his trained crew men vested up,, and get gear to cargo door to receive the late comers. It can be risky too. Unless the passenger is injured, dead or in jail, there is no excuse for missing departure time.
This is rare very rare and only in particular circumstances. Most the times it's your passports are with the shore agent, cruise port authorities and you are getting to the next stop by plane out your own pocket.
Exactly. It's disturbing that folks are literally happy they were left behind. U don't know what made the late, rather it was their fault or not, I'm sure that was a scary situation for them. I hoped they were able to catch up with the ship at another port and/or find a place to sleep for the night. That's my worst fear...things happen out of your control sometimes, so I always make sure I'm near the port well in advance.
@@sarahmmmm it was their fault Everyone is told as you exit the ship what time to be back on board, It is printed in the daily calendar and it is posted on a visual sign as you exit the ship. Everyone else managed to get back on time.

It's interesting to see how many people are saying they deserved to be left when they don't know why they were late in the first place. Sometimes human beings can be so cruel. I've personally been on 16 cruises and know the rules to return early but almost got left in St.Thomas in 2015. Taking a cab ride from the beach back to the cruise port, I would have arrived back at least 90 minutes before the cruise left port. Due to a accident I was stuck in traffic and made it back to the ship 5 minutes after departure. I jumped out the cab and ran like Forrest Gump as the balcony passengers were yelling for me to hurry up. Once I boarded they closed the door, security scolded me like I was a child. I explained my situation but they didn't care and proceeded to ask me if I knew of another couple who just got left. I said they're probably stuck in that traffic jam. Nonetheless I pray I never experience that again because it's a terrifying feeling.
90 minutes to me is too little when you are on a cruise and you are relying on public transportation. I always give myself 2 hours unless it is walkable or I am on an excursion with the ship. There is always stuff to do around the port when you get back by the ship.
There's an article about it. They didn't pay attention to the time when the ship left. She thought it was 5:30 PM. Not 3:30 PM. Apparently the girl is a IG celebrity.
They were on their honeymoon. In an interview, the wife said she got the on board time mixed up and thought it was later than it actually was. Hard lesson learned to read the cabin newsletter more carefully.

I’m going on my first cruise and booked excursions outside of the cruise line, I think I’m going to plan on being back 2-3 hours in advance, I don’t want to play around
medical emergencies ARE one of the few exceptions, the local authorities, the police and hospitals ALL know when the big ships are in town, so if any passengers fall under their care they are able to CALL the ship and tell them!!!
@Blackstallionsunday zombie Don't you get it? He's saying that the cruise (ship) has set schedules and they have to follow those schedules. The cruise does not follow passengers schedules, eg. those 2 passengers.
To all the cruisers who think the ship’s departure time is simply a suggestion, YT is full of videos of people like these two left standing dock side watching their ship leave them behind. If you are one of those people that is chronically late, you know who you are, book your shore excursions through the cruise ship. They will wait for your group to return.

I worked on cruise ships for several years and now I'm cruising twice a year, always with Royal.

Take a proper watch and set it to 'Ship Time'.
Devices, like your phone, can reset to local time automatically.
This won't help those selfish people who think that the ship will wait for them anyway.
100% correct!
They have a watch or a phone and also entitlement
Now the blaming game start. The man accused the woman and vice versa. Bye bye SHIP, bye bye relation(SHIP).
Very shrewd observation. Good day.
Lol i don't think so
Johannes Weitz I was thinking the same.😂
Oooooooo...BURN!!! hahaha
This is funny.
We get off the ship for 2 to 3 hours, that's it. we come back early and enjoy Meals on the ship!!
After all we paid for all inclusive ;)
I agree. We do the same!
kamzcool
We do exactly the same........never a problem that way
@@anunez5173 I agree!
Me too! Not worth the anxiety and stress if you run late.
No any more after this covid🤣
LOL.

Wow...
Not very elegant to embarrass her in public.
They weren't really passengers. They waited around the corner and watched until the gangway was removed then ran for the ship pretending they just missed it.
Dear GOD..so they HAVE to watch the ship slowly COAST AWAY without them....THE ANXIETY
😂
@Carol Johnson lol😄
Be on time in fact be a hour early so that does not happen.
@LaTrice McDaniel STRAIGHT UP
What anxiety they did it to them self. Who should feel for are the others cruisers that had their cruise changed because of people that can't fallow simple directions.
Who gives a Thumbs Down? If nothing else this is a great teaching experience video. It should be shown to everyone who boards a ship.
LOL!
If you'll notice, there is a troll giving a Thumbs Down to every single comment on this, and many other posts. Imagine being that much of a loser.
@@PilatesGuy1 Probably the couple in the video LOL
@@LaszloBagi Good one - didn't think of that :).
If you don't want a certain channel showing up in recommendations all the time you have to down click on a few to get them to stop showing up.
Don't forget that the Captain may for safety reasons, refuse to allow the small boat to come alongside.
This is rare very rare and only in particular circumstances. Most the times it's your passports are with the shore agent, cruise port authorities and you are getting to the next stop by plane out your own pocket.
@@jameswg13 Ones I helped board were drunk,
@@davidwadsworth8982 then they were extremely lucky then. Most the time I worked on ships and known others working on ships this was rare
They could have dived in and clung to the sides surely.
yep, then climb to the top ;p
I'd like to see them try
Miguel Carrasco, Jr
Eh not sure time travel is an option.
Yeah if there just so happens to be Navy Seals on vacation....😁
😂😂😂😂
The lesson of this video is to not expect an ounce of compassion in RUclips comments.
Yes it’s good to know that in today’s world there is no situation so embarrassing or frustrating that can’t be made worse by becoming RUclips fodder
That is the real lesson. Ha ha!!
@@sarahmmmm it was their fault Everyone is told as you exit the ship what time to be back on board, It is printed in the daily calendar and it is posted on a visual sign as you exit the ship. Everyone else managed to get back on time.
I have compassion for people and animals in need. You get to a place Early a hour early for ships.
This is why you always take your passport too and not just the ship card!
My passport goes with me. Everywhere. You just never know.
Some ships, you have to hand your passport into the Pursers office, so they produce it to port officials if required.
@@asd67lkj Really? I have never had to do that, but I have only been on Caribbean Cruises. Is that for European cruises?
@@whisperthunder1976 The P&O cruises we were on we did not have to (kept them in the safe), but on our last cruise. Royal Caribbean "Legend of the Seas" from Hawaii to Sydney we did..IIR, they took our passports when we registered before boarding and they gave us our ship card..
@@whisperthunder1976 it’s either that or they enter your rooms to get it which passengers probably won’t like.
Oooooh how i love this! It brings great plessure to my heart watching this ❤️❤️❤️
Hope that shopping was worth it.
I don't feel sorry for them at all.
Self inflicted!
They got exactly what they deserve!
Not the "Sympathy of the Seas" eh?
Heartless u are
You have no idea what causes delays on arrival time. U you're a HATER , period.
Nubian Journey's the difference is you were RUNNING back to get on your ship. This couple was just strolling along like they had no worries.
I agree. It must be a horrible feeling being left. You never know the circumstances however, it's not reason to be heartless...
Apparently the girl is a IG celebrity.
i went to st thomas in summer 2015, what ship were you on?
Swim Forest, swim!
H Sig 😂
Lmao! Love people with a sense of humor instead of being mean. Kudos on your choice AND your humor!
I thought for a moment that he was going to jump. LOL
😅😅
Lol
They were on their honeymoon. In an interview, the wife said she got the on board time mixed up and thought it was later than it actually was. Hard lesson learned to read the cabin newsletter more carefully.
They may have been too busy!!🤣
4 months as a Space Coast cab driver in Florida.. I drove many to Cape Canaveral cruise terminals from hotels to ship, and vice versa. That horn sound is awesome.
I get off the ship as soon as it docks at 8 am. I’m back onboard no later than 2 pm. PERIOD
Very smart!
What if it leaves @ 1pm ...
If you book as excursion with royal Caribbean even if it runs late the boat CANNOT leave without you
M MLY it can leave if the delay is very late, but the cruise line are responsible
I’m going on my first cruise and booked excursions outside of the cruise line, I think I’m going to plan on being back 2-3 hours in advance, I don’t want to play around
Unless there was unusual circumstances such as they saved someone’s life on the way over there, I have no sympathy at all.
medical emergencies ARE one of the few exceptions, the local authorities, the police and hospitals ALL know when the big ships are in town, so if any passengers fall under their care they are able to CALL the ship and tell them!!!
There is an element of gratification watching these two lacksadasical people lose it because of their self centeredness.
Lol the ones on the ship can see them running and they just chilling like nothing happened lol
I was on this cruise, and there was close to 7000 passengers. And if I remember correctly, I believe we left 10 minutes later than announced.
What the hell did they think was going to happen?
betaomega04 that the ship and its occupants were supposed to wait for them.
