@@ketoauntie7301 you're wrong. But said it so confidently as if you're right and know what you're saying. I've worked on a cruise ship, NCL Pride Of America. An open deck isn't until the 5th or 6th floor. Everything beneath that is just a hull. Everything is sealed and watertight. Those windows in the video dont have the ability to open or close. The crew stay on the 1st and 2nd deck. So the crew of the ship are underneath the water whether it's storming or not. But no, there is no "drainage" and no water is pouring in. The water in the elevator was from the sea spray of waves, up on the 5th or 6th deck, combined with the listing from side to side, resulting in water entering the interior of the ship
Am I the only one who would find this weirdly relaxing? Like being wrapped up nice and cosy in bed while there's a storm raging outside, only taken to the next level.
Yes!!!! I'm getting such a cozy vibe watching it. Meanwhile, I'm terrified of airplanes but cruises aren't scary. Humans were meant to swim, but we don't fly!
My father was a sea captain and he told that he was as a young man on a ship and the ship was twisting in hallways with the waves. Only thing the captain said was "If the engineers have calculated everything correctly, we should survive"
I mean, they build these ships to extreme standards. If the ship couldn't take a storm and high waves then it wouldn't have been allowed to leave port.
Honestly, if I'm ever in a position where I find myself on the inside of a window with huge tentacles on the other side, why not face my imminent death with amazement at nature's power and awesomeness and clap for the beast. Maybe it likes it and keeps me as a pet.
I'm sure a lot of people on the ship were freaking out... It probably ruined their whole trip. And these dudes are just laughing, having a good time...especially "Gangsta Lean". Life lesson here....why worry? You have no control...so just enjoy the ride.
SpongeBob NiggaPants not necessarily. If there trip is going well and then something like this gives them severe anxiety where they are fearing for their life, it would most likely ruin their trip to an extent. Their trip has nothing to do with other outside aspects of their life.
Trust your equipment. These ships are built to withstand storms like these. All you're doing by panicking is shortening your lifespan. Learn to control your fear and calm down when you're in distress.
@Luca_the_great8445 wrong. Panicking and adrenaline release invokes the fight or flight response. This places wear on your body - especially your circulatory system. If worry, anxiety and stress are enough for you to lose hair and gain blood pressure, you can bet panic attacks aren't helping your cause.

its very frightening, when you consider the possibilities, and the fact that its a vast ocean. but at the same time calming. Love this video. +1 for no bullshit dubstep noise ruining everything.
The black your seeing in the waves is called “upwelling” and that is where sand and sea debris are pulled off the bottom from currents and storm surges.
Zhiivago, yes, the water is enchanting! The color is absolutely mesmerizing. If you have ever watched some of the RUclips videos of seafaring ships where the high waves come crashing over the front, the color of the water is so incredibly beautiful. 👑
My Old Man sailed through a powerful Nor'Easter while aboard a DE, and a Typhoon while aboard a DD. The rest of the fleet mentioned how his ship was bobbing up and down with exposed screws, and sailors ended up with broken bones, but alas, he's still with us at 88 and going strong! The man is a true BTDT.
I have mixed emotions about this. On one side, I would love to experience that and see under the water of those huge waves. On the other hand, I would freak out and think thats insane and horrifying.
I work on ships. You be ok. Its more uncomfortable and hazardous to walk around than terrifying. I have though heard stories from others of extreme weather when ships sustain damage and of course some ships are lost in weather but today there is forecast so you can avoind the worst of it. Personally only time i felt fear was once when we were side onto moderate waves and ship was rolling suddenly! We had to turn to go behind an island for shelter, not for saftey but due to certain job that needed doing and it was too rough in open water to do it. I was asleep and feeling the normal up down of the waves but suddenly i felt i was about to tip out of bed which was alarming then everything on table not stuck down went flying off. Probably it wasn’t that bad but it gave me a sudden fright.

I never understand how people stay chill. My dad was a commercial fisherman on huge ships. He told me how these waves would practically engulf the ship, and when I said "that's scary" he was like "meh, it was kind of cool". Apparently they used to play a prank on new people. As a wave was about to crash over the ship they'd all scream like it was something terrible and they were all about to die. I was like "dad...that's fucked up!" He just chuckled and said "yeah". 😐🤔

Back in 2010, we ran into the same problem on a cruise up the eastern US coast to New England when we got caught between the remnants of two hurricanes. Lasted about 8 hours and most people on board were sea sick. But we had a good captain who managed to maneuver the boat around the worst of it. Was definitely an experience I will never forget.
No music? Finally a video where we can hear only the real sound and can experience for ourselves (in a small amount) how it is to experience those huge waves splashing against the window! Great!
My dad in WWII used to describe the North Atlantic storms very much like we see in this vid. Add to the storms they sailed thru the fact that there were German uboats that wd attack our ships with torpedoes. Two threats...storm/sea plus the torpedoes. One day his ship was hit and the stern was blown off....miraculously they made it thru the storm. As another commenter said on here ... imagine crossing in a wooden ship like Columbus & others of his time. Lots of respect for them as they didnt even know where they were going to boot! lol Cheers to all.
I have an inordinate fear of the ocean. Way too many creatures that you can’t see until they are right upon you. Freak waves, tsunamis, pirates... but I love watching from the shore or RUclips..
@Alex Sokolov To be fair, go around the area of Africa and red sea, you'll find pirates. Not the one's we've come to know from Pirates of folklore, but still pirates.
Tsunamis aren’t shit in the middle of the ocean especially for a giant ship like this. What you should really be worried about are rogue waves... there’s a reason there is such little video evidence of them because most people who have experienced them aren’t alive to tell the story
Ok tsunamis aren’t bad as long as you’re not on the coast... A Cruise ship can sail right over a tsunami in the middle of the ocean and you might not even realize it. Tsunamis get taller as the Ocean floor gets more shallow...I live in Hawai’i I need to know this 😂 the Pacific enjoys trying to kill us once a year at least wether it be a Hurricane or a Tsunami every 6 years or so
@@gamersgame1000 exactly. Researchers have recorded individual rogue waves as high as 95 feet in height. NOAA has even compiled a list of over 50 historical incidents that they believe involved rogue waves. They're terrifying.
And you'd actually rather be that low in the ship. Up top is where people would be sliding around, etc. This is fairly low to the water line. I think only employees have rooms that low. Third deck is technically below deck, I think.
I'll be on a deck 3 oceanview room in a few months, kind of hoping we get some weather like this! (And once I was on the Celebrity Solstice and a wave washed over the helipad on deck 5 or 6! We were at breakfast at the time and everyone simultaneously staggered in one direction, it was terribly exciting.)
Definitely is a nice shot, subject is too far to the right to follow rule of thirds however. But there are plenty of times when you don't need to follow a rule to appear cinematic. Not to mention there are MANY other rules other than the rule of thirds 😁
You usually hardly feel the worst of storms on lower decks due to your lower centre of gravity, no clue how everyone on the 12+ floors above faired though 😂
I was on Oasis of the Seas a couple weeks ago. We had some sway due to high cross winds. I noticed it more on the lower decks ie in the casino than I did in my room on the 11th floor,

Great video. I use to work on a cruise ships. Your storm was pretty wild. I've also seen a few. Usually the captain steers around them. I was on one that was so bad we beat feet at full throttle to Australia. Over 100 passengers were put into ambulances when we got there from severe dehydration from throwing up. And by the way. A cruise ship at full throttle is not comfortable and the whole ship vibrates real bad.
Well, there are a few, but they’re designed to be able to be fully submerged and unable to capsize; strictly for search and rescue due to their small since. Although some believe they’re better classified as submarines
There's no ship that is unsinkable , if i had to be on any ship , i'd choose the shannon class lifeboat of the rnli , thats the closest anyone has got to ' unsinkable ' so far :)
I was on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship 1st week of March and we experienced this. I was terrified and will never get on another cruise ship. It was Spring Break, college kids getting drunk. It was a floating puke bucket.
Been there. In 1986 on our way to mexico out of L.A. in Feb. 64 foot swells. Sailed 126 km out to sea. Damage done to ship. Ported over night had divers go under ship to see a stabelizer gone. Slot machine out a window and 200 passengers got off a flew home. What a ride!!!
Oh wow! This is my first time seeing any footage from that day... I was actually on the Independence of the Seas for 70k Tons of Metal music cruise, a few miles behind you guys, when this happened. We caught the tail end of that hurricane and got some pretty good surf and side to side rocking ourselves. I went out on the 3rd level smoking deck around midnight to try to get some photos of the waves because they were crashing up almost to the railing! It was pretty insane.. It felt a bit wild and terrifying looking over the rail at the water, but I loved it! Still.. we didn't get nearly the damage that the Anthem got, thankfully, but crew still had the pool deck and other areas closed off for safety since earlier in the day. One of our passenger's mother was actually on the Anthem, and I remember her being very very worried about her. When we got back to Fort L. we heard how bad the damage was, how some people got hurt, and our hearts went out to them. Just glad it wasnt way worse.. sometimes the ocean likes to remind us who's really boss!
I remember being on a smaller ship coming back from Cozumel. My husband was so sick setting on the back deck. This is crazy. We only had 25 ft swells. Everyone was covered up with beach towels. I managed it pretty well. God bless you and safe sailings
760 DTH What are you talking about? Air Travel is BY FAR the safest way of transportation. And if your plane does crash you still have a 95.7% chance of surviving.
@The Final Rumbling so all the times where people survived singing ships and no one survived air plane crashes u are more likely to survive a plane crash??
@The Final Rumbling i just did and u are more likely to not have a sinking ship accident then a plane crash and if those do happen you are deffinitly more likely to survive a sinking ship because they rarely explode as soon as they begin sinking
Went on Carnival to Puerta Vallarta and huge storm hit and we diverted to go around it but even on the outskirts it looked just like this. Waves were crazy big and boat was a rockin!
He's just casually looking what's in the water when there is like 30foot waves nearly hitting his window... looking at this video makes my want to die 😂
We had that on a trip to New Zealand dodging 2 cyclones for 4 days. We didn't feel like we were in any danger though. We just had to hold on to things so we wouldn't fall over. Some people were injured falling over and they also issued over 800 doses of sea sickness tablets. But the boat seemed to be handling the waves easily. They even did a couple of shows at night with dancers. They were amazing managing to dance while the ship was rocking around.
Being active duty navy, we see this alot. Not through a window but if we have the hangar bay doors open you can see the waves. I haven't been on a cruise ship but this is so awesome to see when you go below the water line. I can say that our hangar bay is 35ft above sea level and when we hit massive storms (low pressure systems) the waves have been known to come into the hangar bay if the doors are open. I know this video doesn't do justice but I for one can say that these are pretty good size waves (probably 30 to 40 footers) if I'm not mistaken I think the biggest iv been in was coming home from a deployment in the middle of the Atlantic, and we hit about 40 to 50 footers at a constant pace.
Honestly in water like that and supposedly so far from shore I'd probably just accept death, otherwise I'd be beaten by the waves and drown anyway or die of hypothermia
What would be really interesting is to know where this was and the time of the year. Cruise ships go out of their way to not sail during storm seasons.

Lots of respect for them as they didnt even know where they were going to boot! lol

So where do I find the Johnny depp ambiguously gay type pirates?
