No, this wasn't from personal experience. Willie Nelson wrote this song. Patsy was a legend in her own time....and died tragically in a plane crash. Her later managers got her these "torch" songs because her voice was so suited to them. Her original stuff was more of a country (in the traditional sense) sound.
