Willie Nelson wrote Crazy before he became famous. He had a hard time getting anyone to be interested in it because its chord structure was more complicated than most country music of that time. Patsy Cline agreed to record it after someone demoed the song for her producer. It became a hit on the country and pop charts, and eventually became the all-time #1 song played on jukeboxes in the U.S.
I was eating lunch at the original Threadgill's, an eatery in Austin where Janice Joplin used to perform, and Willie Nelson came in for lunch. In Austin before the tech boom, you couldn't swing a cat without hitting a famous musician. I was at the bar at the Continental, and three feet away, is Robert Plant. What a town for music. Willie writes great songs and this one is CRAZY good, and Patsy made it live forever.
One of Patsy's most famous songs written by Willie Nelson. She had so many great songs such as "She's Got You", "Walkin' After Midnight", "So Wrong", "Leavin' on Your Mind", "I Fall To Pieces" "San Antonio Rose", "Blue Moon Of Kentucky", "Half As Much", "He Called Me Baby", "Faded Love" etc.
There were two movies that featured Patsy Cline as a character, "Coal Miner's Daughter", a biopic of country music star Loretta Lynn. Patsy was played by Beverly D'Angelo. Patsy was a friend and mentor early in Loretta's career. The other was "Sweet Dreams", the story of Patsy's career and relationships with both of her husbands (her first husband was Gerald Cline, her second Charlie Dick). Patsy was played by Jessica Lange who was nominated for a 1986 Oscar for her role. Both movies depicted Patsy as a tough, no-nonsense, but also fun-loving person who had a dream and set out to achieve her goals. I recommend both movies, but Beverly D'Angelo's performance best captured the essence of Patsy's character (according to Loretta Lynn).
Pasty Cline was a true contralto. Other modern singers in her league are Karen Carpenter, Bobbi Gentry, Cher, Annie Lennox, K. D. Lang, Amy Winehouse and Angelina Jordan, just to name a few. They all have amazing smooth vocal tones and powerful runs. I think of female contraltos as the equivalent to the male "crooner" voice.
You two should start a counseling service. You just have a great way of explaining things that make sense and helps peoples souls. You’re so lucky you found each other
"Tennessee Waltz" (1950) sung by Patti Page is another legendary country song that you need to hear. It is one of the official songs of the state of Tennessee. Patti Page's recording of it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1996. A multimillion seller back when records were being sold, it peaked at the No.1 spot on the Billboard Best Selling Pop Singles chart. (and it tells quite a story)
This recording and many of her later songs including that so recognizable piano playing of Floyd Cramer. He actually had a big instrumental hit with a song called Last Date. His piano playing is a signature sound of the Nashville sound of the early 1960's including this one.
She had such a beautiful tone, voice was crisp and clear and you could actually understand EVERY word she sang...go figure! Very sad she passed away so young in a plane crash 😣
What a voice...so much power, emotion and soul. One of the very few voices male or female that goes to your soul and moves it so beautifully. A class act was Patsy Cline.
Again I suggest the movie "Sweet Dreams" it shows her short life, and what troubles she had, she died much to young 💔 😢 who knows what great music she could have made! Peace✌️ and Love❤️ Gary😊
Guys, she was always finding out he was watching all the other women when she was gone working. Patsy was so young when she died in a plane wreck.🥺💕. I sure do enjoy you 2 😍
It was said that this was the most played song in jukebox saloons around the world. I don’t know how they could know such a thing but, it seems totally logical.
Jukeboxes keep track of the number of times each song is played. The owners of the jukeboxes report this info to ASCAP and BMI so that royalties can be distributed to the songwriters.
I actually look forward every day, coming home from working to seeing you guys react. So real and genuine, and the love you show us for each other as a couple is beautiful!
Definitely one of the greatest singers ever. Patsy had such a beautiful voice, I believe her and Karen Carpenter had the two most beautiful voices ever. I suggest checking out SWEET DREAMS & I FALL TO PIECES, equally as good.
She became best friends to Loretta Lynn. She taught Loretta to not put up with any bull, concerning business and her husband. Loretta named one of her twins Patsy.
Great reaction to a beautiful song & singer!! Every time I hear Patsy Cline, I think of my mom (RIP) - she loved her music! Songs like this will never die. Cheers.
I'm a huge admirer of Patsy Cline, and I love watching people discover her. You guys are delightful, and I enjoyed your in-depth discussion. Lots of truth there. Like your wife, I too am a classically trained musician (professional for 5 years in my youth, almost 50 years ago), so I especially appreciated her remarks.
I was watching the patsy cline ‘crazy’ video. If you like Patsy you will love LeAnn Rimes video “Blue”. It was written for Patsy but she died in a plane crash before she could record it. The guy who wrote it saw LeAnn Rimes singing the American national anthem 30 years later and gave it to her to record because she was known as the new patsy cline. She was 13 or 14 when she recorded it and she won a Grammy for best song and best new recording artist. It’s amazing. Also she sings a Ukrainian Christmas song that I never heard before called “Carol of the bells” was composed 110 years ago. A timeless song. Also Canada has some fantastic musical artists. I know you have done Joni Mitchell. Google Bryan Adams and Shania Twain, Michael Bublé, Sarah McLachlan, k.d. lang- her rendition of Leonard Cohen’s HALLELUJAH is amazing. My husband and I were hippies in the 70’s now we are old hippies I still wear my Tie-Dye t-shirts. Make Love not war was and still is our moto. 🇨🇦 from Canada with love and peace.🇨🇦
Another smooth voice from this era was Jim Reeves (mu dad's favoritte singer & a fellow Texan which was important to him haha) He also was killed in a plane crash back then, my dad was so upset. "He'll have to go" is a song that comes to mind first. Thanks, great reaction.
Sometimes 3 things come together. The song, the performer, and the performance. In this case the song was the work of Willie Nelson. The performer was the legendary Patsy Cline. And the musical arrangement is perfect for the song and the performer. I like the one line of the song "And I'm crazy for loving you". I wonder if the woman in the song knew going into the relationship that she was crazy for loving this person and had some idea right from the start that it was a crazy thing to do. You know how love can make a person do something that their head tells them is a bad idea. But then I guess falling in love is always a crazy thing to do. My mom used to say "it takes two to tango". How true.
There is a duet of Diana Krall singing this live with her husband, Elvis Costello, with a Willie Nelson bridge vocal, that is just fantastic. But there was only ever one Patsy Cline.
Her voice is so beautiful. I sometimes think about the music she might have given us if she hadn't died so young and tragically. By the way, I really like to hear your conversations about the songs.
That's true. Whenever we hear of great artist who passed away too soon, makes you think how the music would look like today if they were here with us a bit longer ☺️💚
Another great song and reaction! About being down and needed to stay there sometimes, you should, if you haven’t yet, listen to Rainy Day People by Gordon Lightfoot. And you don’t talk too much.
Another female country singer you should listen to called Wanda Jackson and her songs ( Mean Mean Man 1958 / Hard Headed Woman 1958 / Thunder in the mountain 2011 ) are just a few
Great video! You should react to Patsy Cline’s “I Fall to Pieces” in the coming days. Check out the studio version. The live version floating around has poor recording quality.
Hello, this was a lovely reaction to Crazy. Another singer gone too soon by tragedy. Patsy was an influence to many future Country singers. This and your previous reaction to Joni’s River has inspired me to make a reaction request. I also see you have reacted to Carpenters but I don’t see the song I’m going to request. It’s a cover, so I’d advise for appreciation of the cover maybe take a watch or listen to the original. I’m going to introduce you to a new singer. She’s a 20 year old American. She sings the songs of my youth, songs from the 60-80’s. She sings current songs also, her originals or full covers. I’m going to include to shorts as appetizers, if you will. No spoilers just something to watch to understand. That she’s NOT known for either short. I’ll link the two shorts and the actual reaction request and go buy the request and refer to this message. Talking about relationships is appropriate for the actual reaction video I’m linking. It was the Wedding Song of the 1970’s. So I’ll give you another opportunity to talk about life. This song is a cover of We’ve Only Just Begun, by Carpenters. This one was released this past March 2nd on Karen’s birthday, in her honor. It is a creation of James Wilkas and features Tori Holub (Ha Lubb) on lead and backing vocals. Like I said earlier, to really appreciate what they did here it would be advised to take a listen to the original. As that’s 54 years old, not much of a spoiler. Just a preparation for what you are about to see and hear. THIS is what Tori is known for: ruclips.net/video/J95lfJqo9VY/видео.htmlsi=XTGFuHmTSjBeHAAg At the end of this video is a full credit list and you may want to note what was done here. Patsy to me is the best country singer of all time. So beautiful. One of mom's favorite singer.

Nobody can sing heartbreak like Patsy Cline.
For me, it's the WAY she sings it. She squeezes my feelings.

Everyone who has heard Miss Patsy sing is blessed. She is peerless.
Thanks for the reaction , you folk's are AWESOME !
6th! Patsy's voice was special. (Written by Willie Nelson).
An absolut classic! 👍
The great Floyd Cramer playing piano on this one as well.
What a beautiful and expressive voice singing an all time classic song.
Patsy Cline is my favorite female country singer. Beautiful, with so much control. The master.
If I had all the quarters ever popped into juke boxes to play this song, I'd be set for life...and I'd get a lot of my quarters back.
🇬🇧 Patsy was my beautiful mum's favourite singer. We played this at her funeral Dec 2022. ❤🎼
It was a joy to watch two lovely, intelligent people discuss such a beautiful iconic song and Patsy's amazing voice. Kudos.
Many thanks 👍💚
Great recording of a great song, written by Willie Nelson. Patsy's voice and phrasing are simply unmatched, imo.
Patsy Cline is an American treasure and her rendition of this Willie Nelson classic is iconic!
