Patsy Cline is one of the greatest. I grew up on this. When I was 21 with a newborn baby, the baby's father left us stranded in a dumpy trailer with no money and one lightbulb. The only thing that kept me sane was singing her entire greatest hits album to my baby over and over for a few months until I could get some help. Patsy saved my sanity! And probably my life.

I don’t know. I think the song called ‘sweet dreams of you’ is even way more epic than ‘crazy’. There is something orchestral about the song that matches her classic voice.

Patsy is LEGIT one of the greatest singers of all time. Her purity of tone, warmth, and the emotion she pours into every note are unmatched. Gone, way, WAY too soon.

I'm 68 and loving hearing and seeing these songs being heard again. Watching Amber and Jay and their reaction just warms my heart and gives hope that music will bring people together again. Music is timeless, the messages still rings true today and have as much meaning now as then. No matter our age, our hearts still beat to the same tune, we all have so much in common.

There seem to be a lot of “vintage” viewer/listeners. We seem to be hovering around 70. I love to watch your reactions because they are so honest and they come from the heart. Music was so important to us. It was a solitary pursuit (listening to records in your bedroom) or a group activity (dances at school, teen club, or youth group). The lyrics spoke for us: what we were thinking, what our fears were, how much we loved someone, and how felt pain when we were hurt.

Patsy had that natural "Yodel" few singers have that , and she nails it whenever she needed it .
The sixties! Back when ALL vocalist were actually talented. No filters, no auto-tune just pure talent!
We have some talented singers now too. It's just the music business that forces artists to use it, convincing them they aren't marketable without it. Here's hoping that tendency fades with time, and that in the near future artists insist on clean recordings with the management of the label they're signed to.
PS: wanted to add that although artists of the past didn't have auto-tune, in all fairness some of them DID use some overdubbing effects during recording.

@@sadee1287 ...I agree with you.. Alot of today's real artists are not signing with major labels because they don't want to be a "product". They want to be able to play and show their gifts. Most of the people I listen to are not radio personalities they are real musicians and singers!
One thing to remember NOT to overlook when going down the music road of older songs... THERE IS NO DO OVER! They are live recordings and they couldn't "fix" things like pitch, flubbed words, etc. This brings an even bigger wow factor to those who sang back then... TRUE TALENT.
They most certainly did have the ability to record in studio and use production techniques such as mixing and effects like echo. They could also splice and rearrange the audio as desired, adding or subtracting percussion or changing the layering of vocals over instrumentation. These weren't "scratch vocals" as it's called in the music business. This video was in no way live - she's lip synching her studio recording in front of the camera.
That's not to take away anything from Patsy's vocal abilities. Her studio recording was not overproduced (and a good music producer knows the difference between too much and too little), so the pure quality and range of her voice is maintained.
This song was written by Willie Nelson if you can believe that! Like others you've covered, Buddy Holly, John Denver, Jim Croce, etc. Patsy died on March 5, 1963 in an airplane crash. She was a mentor and friend of Lorretta Lynn, who even named one of her twin daughters Patsy in her honor. A voice like hers comes along once in a lifetime.
Her singing was effortless! She didn't have to work to hit ANY note. Her low register was ridiculous, easily the best ever!
Patsy was amazing. She was the first female country singer who had the nerve to be sexy. She was not treated well in her early career by her partner but she came through and became a role model for singers like Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton.
Even Loretta named one of her daughters, Patsy as a tribute to her closest friend.

If anyone wants to know more about Patsy Cline, the movie Sweet Dreams, is about her. |It starred Jessica Lange and Ed Harris in 1985. Also, Patsy was a mentor for Lorretta Lynn. The movie Coal Miner's Daughter starring Sissy Spacek (Lynn) and Beverly DÁngelo (Cline) were first class. Both actresses trained their voices to sound like the Country Superstars they were playing.

It isn't Willie Nelson who doesn't have the rights to the song but Bob Seger who doesn't have the rights to "Old Time Rock N Roll". They are the two most played songs on jukeboxes of all time.

This is old school country. And you are absolutely right! They didn’t have our technology. They just got up and sang with a basic microphone. No auto tune, no layering, and real band playing instruments in real time. So I respect the people like you who are checking it out for yourselves and sharing how awesome these singers were. ❤
Patsy is one of the best vocalist of all time male or female. She's my all time favorite singer. She's got so many great songs you should listen to much more. This song is the ultimate song to slow dance to. I taught my nephews how from this song.

Patsy had the greatest voice of ANY singer. There’s no telling where, or how far, her career would have gone had she not died so young and not even having reached the top of her career yet. I think she would hold every record on the books forever had she not passed away. The epitome of what a pure vocalist should be.

My mom and dad were great fans of this wonderful singer. I still love her music to this day because of them thanks mom and dad
Cline is legendary. A guiding light to all in her sphere and especially those who followed, woman or man, singer or instrumentalist. Yes as others have pointed out, Nelson wrote the song, and it was a fast song, but they made the choice to slow it a bit in order that her contour of voice and expression could express something deeper or more careful. Cline was tops.

Patsy Cline could have easily sung opera if she wanted to. Patsy is beyond description, a truly once in a lifetime voice. She just gets better as the years go by and NOBODY can touch her.

Crazy sounds like a standard song to me. I don't claim to be knowledgeable about what makes a song fit into whatever genre, but I don't see what makes this a country song, other than we all think of Patsy Cline as a country singer.
@@natescott3832 You are so right. Especially back in the late 50's, early 60's. This song did not fit the Country genre. But, that is how they billed it and Patsy Cline. I am just grateful that we were blessed with her beautiful voice.
This song definitely doesn't sound like a typical country song. I think Wille Nelson wrote, maybe His version sounds more country, I don't remember.

LeAnn Rimes began her career singing "Blue" a song that was written for Patsy Cline,sadly she died in that plane crash before she could record it, but LeAnn at 13 did it beautifully and you should give it a listen, after hearing Patsy sing, it's like she is alive in LeAnn Rimes.
I grew up to Pasty Cline, and all the 60-70&80's they called country good now. You can'tbeat these songs. Clear vocals, and great music.

Saw her sing that at her ranch in '94 acapella and she is amazing! You could have heard a pin drop and she didn't need the microphone her voice is soooooo strong. You could have heard a pin drop when she started to sing! Such a sweet lady as well!
At 11 years old a little girl named LeAnn Rimes recorded a song called Blue. She was compared to Patsy Cline which started her music career. If you go listern to LeAnn's tributes to Patsy, you will hear how much they sound alike.
When it comes to country music, I tend to agree with whoever said it was "bad rock and roll with a fiddle," but Patsy Cline is something else. Notice that the instrumentals here are so understated it's practically acapella. Just a great performance.
Willy Nelson wrote this long before he emerged as a singer/songwriter, and it's one of his best efforts. I had to mention Willy, and Hank Williams, and that's about it for my country faves.

suzanne here, my son died 1 year ago this week, jan 13th 2022, and this was his favorite song but he was a love of all types of music, but this was his fav song, he always wanted this played at his funeral, he told me, i think he knew even back then, with his issues he would die young , which he did, and when i hear this it breaks my heart for him, i miss him so much. he was so smart and talented but he had mental issues, and finally overdosed for the last time on jan 13th, guess you could say i still am heart broken to put it mild. she is one of the best singers of all time NO doubt of it.

They used to call her "the woman with a teardrop in her voice". She was amazing. She died so tragically and so young. In addition to the other Patsy Cline songs people have suggested here, you should check out her song "She's Got You".
If I've listened to this I've listened to it 1,000 times. Her voice never fails to give me full-body chills. Willie Nelson wrote it, and then it was about a man having loved a woman. Patsy turned it around, and made it perfect.

This song is part of her ONLY album. That was released after her death. Imagine if she had lived and the music she could have made! The song was written by singer songwriter ICON Willie Nelson. Willie also wrote Night Life, On The Road Again and MANY MANY others. Crazy has been covered more than 92 times by other artists.

I met her when I was 13 years old when I was in a local shopping center in Madison TN in 1962. My sister-in-law walked up to her and introduced us, to which she said hhaawaayhaaa in her Virginia accent. It's the most star struck I have even been and when she shook my hand, I vowed never to wash it. So powerful and so genuine. I will be forever star struck with this talent.
The music has never been my cup of tea, but you just cannot deny what an incredible voice Patsy Cline had. I hope she's resting in peace!!!

@@lisalotwin3154 George Martin, Gus Dudgeon and Tony Visconti were great music producers. Today's producers create music that are worse than demos of the 60's.
A great example is Neil Diamond's Cherry Cherry which is a demo recording. After doing a studio version decided to go with the demo.
Have Neil's 12 Songs and After Dark. Both albums are poorly produced. The same can be said for Bob Dylan's Time Out Of Mind which won an Emmy for best album.

When I could barely walk, my parents would drag me around to bars and sit me in the corner with some toys and we would be there for hours. I must have heard this song 1,000,000 times before she passed away, and I never got tired of it. It is still 1 of my all time favorite songs today. She died when I was 5 years old. And yes, my parents continued to drag me to bars until I was old enough to tell them that I just didn't wanna go anymore and could stay home by myself (only child). I am almost 65 and once I turned 21, I still never went into bars. but the couple of times I did (bars that served food so I went with my friends to eat), If there was a jukebox that still had old songs on it, this was the 1st 1 I would always play. Naturally having spent that much time in bars as a kid, I have a lot of other favorite country songs as well. You would think I would hate them after that life-long experience with my parents... ironic that it is just the opposite.
She was amazing unfortunately we lost her in a airplane crash she had so much more music that she never got to share.

"Walking After Midnight" is another classic of hers.
One of the few people that could record a song with only one take. She was incredible.
Patsy had a voice that I describe as liquid gold. Died too young. I saw a musical stage show about her. It was called Crazy I think. It was about a short period of her life when she befriended a fan. Very well done and the lady who played her was brilliant. In this video Patsy was recovering from a really bad car crash hence the headband hiding scars. That cry she had in her voice gets me everytime. When she died in a plane crash she had a hit at the time ironically called I Fall To Pieces. No auto tune then. Just pure talent.
Willie Nelson is one hell of a song writer and Patsy nailed it!
She almost didn't record it. Willie has such weird phrasing when he sings, and she didn't think she could do the song. Listen to Willie"s version--it's much "choppier".
Singing a Patsy Cline song is the yardstick many people use to see how other women vocalists can hang. There are some ladies out there who do Patsy's songs justice, but she will always own them. Give walkin' after midnight a try next.
There are talented and gifted singers and then there's Patsy.
I am 70 now. Years ago , in the decade this song came out , it was played on top forty radio, even though Patsy was regarded a county and western singer. Many kinds of music was played on pop stations. It was a great era to be alive.

Patsy was a staple in our house when I was growing up, therefore I knew every word of this song. She was amazing, many great songs. In Texas we have a Patsy Cline Tribute Band and they’ve been around for years. The girl who does Patsy, almost gets those notes, but just a hair off. There will never be another Patsy.
Patsy Cline died in a plane crash at age 30, on March 5th (I think) 1963, 3 days before I would turn 11 years of age. I was just a kid but remember her on the radio and that pure, clear, and clean voice was so extraordinary that it brought ,in some kind a way, some comfort for a kid growing up in the inner city of Chicago. Her voice just seemed to soothe my soul. Miss Cline was one heck of a classy act. Thanks for playing this song...brought many memories flashing back..
