The song was written in 1968 the year before she married George Jones. When you learn of the things she went through while married to her first husband and Mr. Jones, you start to understand what she was writing about.
She had some tumultuous marriages for sure, but that doesn't make the sentiment of the song any less degrading to someone in a toxic relationship. Now, if its sung from the point of view of a family relation or friends giving bad advice to someone that is in a toxic relationship and the protagonist feels trapped in the marriage, then clearly that takes a different spin on the song.
But we know that Wynette wasn't passive and quite a strong person in her relationships, willing to leave a man if it wasn't working. That's why the lyrics are so problematic nowadays, back when it was released it was the thinking was that women should endure and basically be chained to the kitchen sink.
She was no innocent angel in her relationship with George Jones.
@@johnhegarty1761 - But that doesn't follow the standard agenda of bashing men and seeing women as fragile and innocent. It's a woman's world.
@@Liofa73 Sorry that is complete bullsh*t. That wasn't the thinking at all. I know that is what is taught to young people these days, and it is very problematic and why so many of them end up miserable, scared and alone. The vast majority of men are very protective, honest one women men. The big problem is a shortage of strong, honest, hardworking women. It takes far more courage and intelligence to trust and form a partnership than it is to be alone and independent.
If you want to share good times then you need to share the struggles too. You cant run away like a coward, when times get tough. That is what this song is about. I know a lot of people with long happy marriages, and they nearly all have a story about a time when they were down, and didn't know where their next meal was coming from.
It is sad that so many women born into this age will never know what it is like to be in a loving relationship, because they are just too scared.
@@TheToledoTrumpton Legitimate fears. When is the last time a woman got angry at you and you had to worry about being physically harmed? They feel it walking to their car alone. Your "get off my lawn" old idiotic mentality is the crux of the problem. The first thing to do to try to solve an issue is to understand the other side. You haven't bothered.
Excellent choice. "D.I.V.O.R.C.E" 'I Don't Want to Play House" "Your Good Girl's Going to Go Bad" "Till I Can Make it on My Own". Then for some Tammy and George Jones. They did some great songs together.
One of my top favorite of her's is your good girls gonin to go bad.
I was about 7 when that first one came out... and my folks were divorcing. I think Mom bought me the 45 to play on the player I used for the book 45 sets. At the time, I didn't realize how messed up that is. I had to have been ɓelting it out indiscriminately around Dad. As kids do.
All wonderful choices! ♥
“Til I Can Make it in my Own” is so beautiful.
Great ones!!
Married to George Jones for a while. They had some great duets. She passed away too young. One of the greatest voices of country music. You need to hear Honky Tonk Angels with Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, and Tammy Wynette
LOVVVVVVE them, singing that---plus, they do "Silver Threads and Golden Needles", which I love, as well; I think they actually did a whole album, together!!!!
@@catwhisperer9489 yes they did. Kitty Wells and Patsy Cl8ne were also featured
Yes! I forgot about that one. Great suggestion.👏👏

Still hoping you get back to Floor Jansen.
Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Dottie West and Dolly Parton are the legendary Queens of Country Music.
Emmy Lou Harris! 🎉
I agree 100% but you forgot kitty wells
And Lynn Anderson
Hell yeah those were the ladies of the era boy oh man I love them
Listen to Tammy’s song (she wrote) Till I Can Make It On My Own. Such control and power in her voice.
Yeah, I feel it. I love it. I'd always I loved it before. I had peach fuzz anywhere on my body hurry up?
Yeah, I used to dream of my baby. My baby doll time. But by without telling me was already married to the legendary george george jones
Yeah, they did a whole album together. George Jones and tie me one out together. Yeah, hell, let me give you a couple good when it's with both of them. Are right? Golden ring brother. Let's bathe that bait some golden stuff right there. To go denrings, remember this is George anti. I mean, I write? And we're going to hold on. We're gonna hold down that's george and tommy together
Of course, you saw The Blues Brothers cover this country classic.
It’ll save your life in a honky tonk bar with chicken wire every time.
I'll make sure to keep that in mind. Thanks.
Yep along w the theme from. "Rawhide"
Great scene, great movie. "What kind of music do you usually have here?" "We got both kinds. We got country AND western."
And don't forget Ghost Riders in the Sky!
I came here to mention Jake & Elwood's version.
"Golden Ring" is a wonderful duet between her and George Jones. Also, "Justified and Ancient" by The KLF, featuring Tammy Wynette.
Her collab with The KLF is *EVERYTHING* !! ❤🔥
absolutely Amazong!!! just gotta hear Tammy singing stand by the jam
Yes. Klf did an amazing song with her.
Love Golden Ring - -it always brings a tear to my eye. (I think it is because I ran to Chicago when I was getting divorced 20 years ago. I'm still here, but the ring is long gone! LOL)
@@MsJourneyfanI think part of my Jaw must still be back in the 90s when I first heard/saw that😂
Please don't laugh at this but my mom was really abusive to me growing up so I pretended that Tammy Wynette was my mom instead. It seemed like she would understand anything. Thanks so much for appreciating her music!
I’m so sorry. I’m glad Tammy brought you some comfort.
Who would laugh at that? Hope you have healed from your experiences.
It took a lot of courage to tell us this. We all get our comforts from various places you got yours from Tammy. I am sure if Tammy had heard your story she would be moved. You are unique I hope you have healed. Take care and I wish you a very happy, peaceful New Year🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

And he didn’t think he liked country, Then came Tammy, Tanya, Barbara, Marie,Dolly, Loretta, Barbara, intuition, some of the greatest voices in music history
Why are we not listen to more and more and more country music?
This song was featured in Blues Brothers movie. The Blues Brothers sang it.
I think this and "Rawhide" were the only country songs they knew
This is the third time they’ve heard a portion of this song.
The Good Ole Blues Brothers Boys Band
I still do the choreography every time I hear this song.
@@isnamthere4690Live at Bob’s Country Bunker! Classic.
There's a catch in her voice like she's about to cry. Tammy was/is definitely one of the greatest singers ever in my opinion. Another song where she hits those notes is The Ways To Love A Man
That catch is called a "tear" and I agree.
"He'll Never Take the Place of You" from the same album, and "Come on Home" (from the DIVORCE album) both also feature that spine-tingling (wallpaper-peeling) power. She could go from tense, pensive, and forlorn to a tremendous crescendo and never move a muscle. She did, at first, say she hated the high notes in "Stand By Your Man" and thought she "sounded like a cat being swung by its tail." Of course, being a co-writer on it, the royalties helped her learn to love that song.
Dolly, Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette did an album together not too long before Tammy passed on at a way too early age. There is a great CMA awards show performance with the three of them singing Silver Threads, Golden Needles which is a country classic.
Yes, and Ms. Lynn forgot her words. Lol...she laughed it off like she usually did.
This was Tammy’s signature throughout her very long career. All country music sounded like this at one time. Everyone at the time knew how heartfelt this was because George gave her much to cry about.
Tammy Wynette's "Till I can make it on my own" is a classic, this is her best vocal performance in my opinion.
one of the very best female voices
Jay and Amber, did you know that Tammy returned to the Hot 100 in 1991 in collaboration with a group called KLF? In November 1991, the single Justified & Ancient (Stand by the JAMs) was released, featuring the lead vocals by Tammy, introduced in the sleevenotes as "the first lady of country.” The song hit #11 and also #2 on the dance chart! You really must listen!
I remember that. It felt like such a special song because of the country lyrics, pop or whatever for the chorus, a little rhythmic rapping. _Justified & Ancient_ it's fantastic!
Here we go - "D-I-V-O-R-C-E", "Your Good Girl Is Gonna Go Bad", "Golden Ring" (with George Jones), "My Elusive Dreams" (with David Houston) , plus she sang "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" with Loretta and Dolly.
Bangers, every one! Actually David Houston would make a good choice for a reaction.
I'm not a country fan but her voice was all it took for me. She had many many many hits. She was young when she died she was in her 70s when she died. But one of her last hits was ,Justified & Anient it became a huge dance hit in the 80s. She also did a song with Elton John, who covered her hit Stand by your man. Tammy Wynett is a legend.
sorry but 70's is not young@@georgesmith3011
Miss Tammy Wynette... the first lady of country music, and perhaps beyond... check out "Justified And Ancient" by the KLF and Miss Tammy Wynette!!!
Definitely!
Yes! I was wondering if anyone might remember KLF. So are we all bound for Mu Mu Land? 😊
Yes, it is sad to see that she is almost forgotten today by the younger generations, she is one of the Great Dames of Country Music History. She helped pave the way with her female point of view songs, in an industry dominated by men. She was daring and strong.
Tammy was known as The First Lady of Country Music. So many great songs to listen too. I Don't Wanna Play House, You're Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad, D I V O R C E, Till I Can Make It On My Own to name just a few..A very deep rabbit hole to go down!
Actually, it was Kitty Wells who was known as the First Lady of country music. But I’d put Tammy right under Kitty for that title.
all the way down to her rap Hip Hop song with KLF "Justified & Ancient"
@markroulette3419 Kitty Wells was known as The Queen of Country Music and rightfully so. She was/is amazing. 🙂
Now you have to listen to the KLF's song, "Justified and Ancient", with guest Tammy Wynette. It will blow your minds!
I don’t think you recognised/remembered but this is one of the songs that Jake and Elwood Blues covered in The Blues Brothers…which is an outstanding version in its own right, though not quite as heartbreaking as Tammy Wynette’s.
She had this catch in her voice that was so amazing.
Tammy had a cry in her voice which was her trademark sound. I have most of her collection. Even the deep cuts are good. She was born Virginia Pugh. She left us in 1998 (Age 55).
I use to sit in my brothers truck back in the day and listen to Ms. Tammy on the 8 track with his speakers wide open 😂😂 the beautiful , glorious 70s ♥️♥️
Yall picked a country queen, love the channel, God bless yall
You should listen to the duet Tammy and George did called Golden Ring. Their voices are so different, but man do them blend beautifully.
You feel Tammy's songs more than you hear them. She went through a lot of pain in her life and it comes out of her when she sings. 'Til I Can Make It On My Own is my favorite song of hers because it just might be the most vulnerable song I've ever heard. I won't repeat all the other songs that everyone else is requesting, but I know you would be amazed by many of them.
Y'all need to give a listen to KLF featuring Tammy Wynette. The song was called Justified and Ancient. It will blow your mind. The queen of country music meets hip hop. Her last hit and it was a smash. She surprised everyone with that song.
My favorite Tammy Wynette song is Til I Can Make It on My Own. Trust me, you will love it.
There are some amazing covers of it
My favorite Tammy song!!!

The KLF with Tammy Wynette - Justified & Ancient
Please let's push for that. They would be so shocked. Lol
Loretta, Dolly and Tammy - The Queens of classic country music.
Tammy's last hurrah was a pop/funk/hip hop gem called 'Justified and Ancient' with The KFL. Check it out- also- 'WOULD I LIE TO YOU' By EURYTHMICS
That song shocked the country music establishment when it came out. One of the classic country music stars making a crossover hit with a Eurodance techno group of the 1990s.
I love "Justified and Ancient" and it's got such a fun video. She held her own in Hip Hop.
Thanks for mentioning! Absolutely loved the KLF collab. Still own it on CD, all these years later!
Great suggestions
Country Queen…other suggestions of hers “Apartment #9” “Till I Can Make It On My Own” “Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad”
Tammy Wynette was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. One of the Country Music greats.
It is in the world today it's matches or 2 years. That's not a marriage, it's 2 years Shayla. S talking about a little longer than two years😅😅😅😅😅😅
Tell me was my baby girl. I love her before I even had a hairy hair in a patch of s anywhere. I was in love with Tommy. But my baby doll was married to the legendary. George jones they did a whole album together

I absolutely love Tammy Wynette. 1 of the very all-time greatest Queens of Country Music.
In the 60's and 70's I had every album and 8 track she released and wore them out!!!!! She was a true SUPERSTAR!!!!
One of the most convincing voices you've ever heard. Wow. I've never thought of it that way, but yes. It's so piercing and honest.
Tammy had a great voice and this is a wonderful song to show it. Suggest Crystal Gayle" Talkin in Your Sleep" or "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" please!!!
Oh, Don't it make my brown eyes blue - -YES, a wonderful, great old song. I had forgotten all about it. Thank you. Isn't Crystal Gayle the sister of Loretta Lynn?

My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2017. We had her choose some things she would like to do with our family. One was a train ride. My mom loved gospel music. So while we were on the train we all started singing for her. I have five sisters, and a brother. Most are married with kids and grandkids. We took up most of the car we were on. My aunt came along. While we were all singing my looks at me and says you have a really beautiful voice. You sound a lot like Tammy Lynette. Should could not have given me a better compliment. We also apologized to the other riders and explained why we were there. An older gentleman spoke up and said he was a pastor and asked my mom if he could pray for her with his congregation and tell them what he saw.
One of the classic voices of country music🎶🎶🎶
Rob said "I don't know what genre she is." 🙂
Great classic song by Tammy Wynette! Would anyone else like to hear them react to “SAME OLD LANG SYNE” BY DAN FOGELBERG ??? If so, please send Jay and Amber a message.
YES!!!!!!! One of my all time favorite songs.
Yes yes yes!!! I requested that last year at this time but they never got around to it. I think they’ll LOVE IT!
Dan Fogelberg is definitely underrepresented on this channel. He had a top ten voice.
@@arepurposedlifewithlaura1496 Absolutely, mine too.
@@russelldavis3796 He did. And Same Old Lang Syne is a song I fell in love with as a 15 year old. I’m now 59 and still love it just as much. It’s a Top 5 all- time slow/love song for me.
When Loretta Lynn first heard Tammy Wynette on the radio, she said, now I have some competition.
One of the top hits of all time.
Tammy Wynette definitely deserved the title of First Lady of country music. For a while Her and George Jones were considered country music royalty and a lot of their songs were based on their turbulent love affair. A beautiful song written by Tammy and sung by Martina McBride as a tribute to her after her pasting called till I can make it on my own I know is something worthy of a reaction. Much love and smiles robsquad family. ❤😊
The Blues Brothers covered this in the movie - Tammy also did a cameo with The KLF Justified and Ancient - check it out!
I remember coming home unexpectedly and catching my brother singing along to this st the top of his voice. 😂
Most all men have probably belted out this song.

Tammy must-listen: "Apartment #9" (her first hit 1966), "My Elusive Dreams", "Take Me", "Til' I Get It Right", "Woman to Woman", "You And Me", "Bedtime Story", "Beneath a Painted Sky", "Justified and Ancient".
This is one the single best vocal performances. The heartbreak in it while trying to seem strong is so powerful.

I'm so glad y'all loved her/her voice---I'm so excited to see you do some more!!
She addressed the social controversies of the day (1960s/70s). I remember when "DIVORCE" was banned from the radio. Also, Stand By Your Man was also extremely controversial when it was released, and still is today. (Remember when First Lady Hillary Clinton famously said "I'm not some little woman baking cookies and standing by my man").

You can’t react to Tammy Wynette without listening to “Justifed and Ancient” by The KLF featuring Tammy Wynette. It’s an amazing song and very confusing. It is a modern piece and her last hit. The KLF are odd but it’s a smash hit.
She's the Queen of Mu Mu Land.
I definitely wanted to recommend Justified and Ancient. She left her comfort zone of country music and joined up with the UK's KLF to be the front woman of a crazy mix of techno dance music, rock, rap with a tribal flavor. You will be shook!
Totally agree
Agreed. British electronic classic with Tammy Wynette on vocals!!
Absolutely!! React to this song, please!
The LOOK on Ambers face when she sings "if you love him, you'll forgive him"............CLASSIC
Tammy Wynette is country royalty.
Love her voice
Probably the greatest female voice in the history of country music, arguably of course. Many consider her the “queen”, & rightly so. She lived a very hard, tormented life, and it comes through in her music.
George Jones turn me by now together a rap? That's a bad that they'd be doing a song and a Bay. We're gonna hold on, we're gonna hold down. It's george and tommy all right?
Who remembers KLF featuring Tammy Wynette? I always thought it was so cool of her to do a song like that.
Country singer " Lyle Lovett " had a hit with this song in 1989. Please check out Tammy Wynette with KLF on the song " Justified and Ancient ".
Tammy Wynette is absolutely one of my favorite country singers. I love her voice, I love everything about her including her childhood and then being a hairdresser along the way, all the suffering she went through along the way as well, and always remained such a decent and humble and cool person.
And damn she could wail, but then do that husky alto thing too for contrast and she always sounded so intimate.
Just hit one of her greatest hits playlist and you really cannot go wrong.
Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad. Funny and an absolute banger.
Too Far Gone. A really slow waltz and it is so packed with emotion and really complicated emotive phrasing off the beat, it's just so masterful, and then in the chorus she ends up belting.

Thiis is CLASSIC COUNTRY and Tammy was one of its queens. Gone much too soon.
Yes, I remember. Ms. Lynn did not have the emotional capacity to attend her memorial due to losing, Mr. Twitty, her husband, and then Ms. Wynette so close together.
Got to remember that a whole generation was brought up thinking this way...I was actually told that no matter what, if a couple divorced it was the woman's voice....no matter what.

Tammy was known as the "First Lady of Country Music", and she, Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn were the three biggest female stars of country music during the 1960s and '70s and together, they redefined what it means to be a female country music artist. Tammy Was married to George Jones from 1969 - 75. Her 1969 GREATEST HITS album was the first album by a female country artist to sell over one million copies. "D-I-V-O-R-C-E", "Apartment Number Nine", "You're Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad", "Singing My Song" and "You and Me" were some of her other big hits. She passed away in 1998, after a number of years of failing health.

Not too many people know that Tammy blew up in the early 90's with the KLF as queen of techno dance music 😀
In an Internet pole a few years ago, this song was voted "Most country song of all time". This song is Perfection
Stand By Your Man was Tammy's second Grammy. The first was "I Don't Wanna Play House" and featured for the first time what became known as the Tammy Wynette Steel Pedal. Steel Hall of Famer Pete Drake had come up with the concept of the new type of pedal the night before. He said he actually dreamed it. He and Lloyd Green (another Steel Hall of Famer) discussed it and the day after Pete used it on "House", Lloyd used his own version on Tammy's hit, "D-I-V-O-R-C-E". Country steel players often try to mimic the tone and phrasing of the singer they are playing with and Tammy's histrionic and dramatic qualities were the perfect match.

I Wish I Had a Mommy Like You
Let's Build a World Together (with George Jones)
Oh, and it's pronounced WIH-net. As in Win. It was her middle name (Virginia Wynette Pugh) but she was always called Wynette growing up.
I got to see her live with George Jones and he sounded great,Tammy's voice was cracking a bit and she showed her grit and belted the song's out the best she could.I havebeen/still am a huge fan of her's.
She has a lot of great tracks…
I didn't realise she died so young at age 55 years.
Mind, it said she was plagued with illnesses throughout her life.
Great song. Remember it well from my youth [I'm 62] as my parents played it often.
She gives me goosebumps!!!
