Great video! Some searching brought me here. It went from neck discomfort to pain in neck and shoulder, right in the shoulder cuff. Now it gets numb at the shoulder and down into my thumb. Thank God I get relief at night when I lay on my back.
I put off anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) for 7 years because I was scared of the surgery. But I got relief for a while from epidural steroid injections, C5-C6 and C6-C7. I recommend anyone try these as superior to pain meds and surgery. But ten years down the line, I am developing adjacent vertebra syndrome. Fusing vertebrae causes more stress to be placed on adjacent verterbrae. I have a hard time turning my head to look when I back my car up, and if I had fusion at C7-T1, I could not turn my head at all. Anyway, don't fear the surgery if you trust your neurosurgeon.
Sir I have bone spur in cervical c6& c7.i diagnosed it for four months.now my nerve got the pressure and my whole body had burning sensation.is it normal? Doctors didn't gave much more attention.im very worried about that.is it curable? Even my head also burn.am I well again?
I have 5 herniated discs in my cervical spine. My first symptoms were tingling from the top of my head to the tip of my fingers, then eventually slight loss of balance, then hand tremors, then moved on to light flashes in my vision and most recently double vision in each eye individually. My neurologist thinks that this is all due to the herniated discs in my neck. Some nights I wake up vibrating like a cell phone, electricity pulsing through my body. It’s been a nightmare. I don’t know what to do at this point. I went to an orthopedic surgeon and he told me that my herniated discs can’t cause those symptoms, so it seems like he’s not even knowledgeable about these issues. I’ve been doing neck exercises for 8 months. My neck has never been stronger, and yet the symptoms keep progressing.
Wow. I have also herniated discs in neck with bone spurs and slightly narrowed space in spinal cord. Ten years ago, I was in yr situation. I searched for answer for my weird symptoms everywhere, but back then, not that much was to be found on yt. Me too have the flashing lights on and off, the vibration in body while it relaxes in bed, imbalanced, fatigued, tinnitus in one ear and much more. The dr's said to me as well, all these symptoms could not be from the neck...I think they simply cannot explain how the nerves are working exactly. We are all different and nerves and vessels don't run in our bodies exactly on the spot, the same way on each and everyone of us. I also think, when bulging discs into the spinal cord, the liquid running up to the brain is put under pressure, then not only weakness in limbs occur from compromised nerves, but also other sensations from that pressure occurs. I for example, do not have any severe weakness in limbs (which is kind of atypical), but weak shoulders and get tired and pain running down arms very easily. From doctors perspective, it's almost as if you do not follow the common "protocol", having weakness in those segments shown in this video, then it's not caused by your neck problems. Of course they cannot really know everything that goes on inside the body. A mri is "pictures" of our inside, and not everything can be seen on that. Also, most mri's on neck are taken while laying down. They should be taken when standing up imo. If having neck problems, most can identify with that when standing up, putting pressure on the discs (which btw shrinks during the day) the problems aggrevates.

@@TarikRom-hu3jj Absolutely. It can definitely subside for some, especially if handled early on. I also think accidents are different than damaged discs from aging, work or simply just poor quality of ligaments and discs, it could be due to reumatism or such also, When instant damage is done, it's often a bit easier to repair (if possible with surgery or stabilisation)What are your symptoms now?
So glad I have found this post, this is exactly what I have been like for a year now and had no answers.Great information thanks I was beginning to think I would never get to bottom of my problems.
I’m going through the same problem. I’m a painting contractor so my duties are mostly having to look up and move my arms a lot. Lately I started feeling the symptoms of having a probable heart attack with my left arm going numb and sharp pain in the chest. Doctors checked my heart and said it’s perfectly fine but the thing I don’t understand is that whenever I get the flare up my blood pressure starts rising and this scares me. I have tried deep tissue massage, acupuncture and chiropractor but the problem sustains. In my MRI, discs in my C5,C6 and C7 appear compressed. These sudden flare ups upset my breathing and make me so anxious. I don’t know what to do about it. Please help with some guidance doctor. Thank you

I have the exact same symptoms. I am scheduled for a two level C5-7 neck fusion 6 days from now 4/28/22. I really hope I will get some relief! I've been miserable for several years now living on way too much ibuprofen and Excedrin Migraine several times every day where it has affect my liver. The look on this guy's face reminds me of myself. I feel like a zombie constantly dealing with chronic horrible pain in the upper back shoulder neck area not to mention the headaches and migraines. My right arm in numb and hand is tingly along the index and middle finger wrist and up the arm. I have blurry vision and intense ringing in my ears. What would life be like without this? If anyone is experiencing this and living life in my shoes, or just nervous about the upcoming surgery feel free to comment and I will get back with you with an update

I have very similar symptoms as Paul here. Herniation on C6, C7 as well as the T6, C7. I've had this issue on and off for 3 years and was diagnosed 1.5 yrars ago. I just went through a major flare up and it was unimaginable pain. My Orthopedist told me not to do any additional exercise outside of walking. I have a nerve test tomorrow and am meeting with pain management. I dont know how to feel since my favorite activities have always been physical. Its beginning to really take a toll on my mental health with all the medication snd restrictions placed on me. Im scared of shots, obviously even more terrified of surgery. My plan to work this forward is to use an inversion table 3x a day for 3 minutes each at a 60° tilt and continue to walk. Ill probably begin to hang as well. Thanks for listening, would appreciate any feedback. I hope all have relief and can manage life well.

First of all I hope Bruce has recovered and I wish him the best. Secondly, is surgery a must if I have weakness in my triceps and wrist extensors as well? I herniated my C6-C7 spine last week and it was very painful the first couple days. Now most of the pain has subsided but the weakness in my triceps and tingling in my fingers remain a symptom. My doctor has advised a conservative treatment and that my symptoms including the weakness will subside eventually. I usually go to the gym 5 times a weak and I pride myself on the size and strength of my triceps. Am I required to get the surgery if there is weakness in the triceps? Would postponing the surgery mean permanent nerve damage and a permanent weakness in my triceps? Or would the weakness issue resolve on its own?
@@miked6523 Hello, it has been 5 months since my injury and I have no pain or tingling. My right triceps is still weaker than my left triceps but it's much better than before. I am doing strength training to recover faster.

It is possible you have carpal tunnel. Not very likely that a pinched nerve in the neck would affect both sides. Try a wrist splint on one hand at night and see if it make a difference. If it does, you need to be thinking carpal tunnel.

Hi Paul, I was doing a side arm raise on the right side when something went/slipped on the left side of the spine and caused me terrible pain. My symptoms seem to be typical C7 and some C6 nerve compression. Numb middle and index finger, rear delt on fire and sometimes tricep, maybe 70% strength loss in tricep. People recommend the McKenzie exercises but most of those are exactly what makes the pain worse for me. For example, keeping head level and moving the chin back brings on great pain and i can't lie on my back and rest my head on the ground. Walking agitates it hugely. Is there anything can you tell me from this information? Should i still be doing those exercises and push slightly into the pain or are they simple wrong for me? It's been 3 weeks of hell for me and any positive steps to take would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
I get this every few months. it either happens if i sleep bad (so i bought a cervical pillow that keeps my head/neck in the right position), if i exert too much force playing tennis..... or if cold air hits my back/neck. I can't lie down either. a couple of relief movements you can do is hold onto a bar above you and hang for a few seconds. if you can really relax while you do this.... you will hear your spine decompress. another is to hold onto a high tension resistance band in any direction where the resistance is pulling your arm away from your trunk. Also..... stick a blow drier up your shirt and see if instant heat relieves it. it does for me. I have to keep doing this until the tissues relax fully. takes 2-3 weeks.
@@michalperkowski6304 I didn't even get seen by a doctor never mind surgery as it was during the pandemic. My pain eventually eased off and i only very rarely feel it if i make an odd move suddenly, usually something like missing a small drop step while walking. My strength all returned as far as i can tell but i stil feel a slight numbness in my 2 fingers that will probably never go away but thats not an issue. The only thing i found to help me at the time of most pain was face pull exercises to as much failure as possible. You can try them by standing with your back leaning into a corner and then using your outstretched arms to push yourself away from the corner using your elbows horizontal with the floor. If it hurts then don't do them. Don't worry, you'll likely be fine eventually.

ive been living with pain running down my right arm and scapula as well and both arms having numbness and tingling.. I had to ask my doctor to order X-rays of my neck and it showed “moderate neural foraminal stenosis of c1-c7 and T1..” Saw my PCP for a follow up of my X-rays, and she told me, “ you have arthritis in your neck..” I told her I think it’s more than that as I’ve been having the pain with burning and numbness symptoms.. Iam finally going to see a Physiatrist and my PCP wrote my diagnosis “ Neck Strain .” when I looked up the diagnosis in “ Layman’s terms” it said, (((compression of a spinal nerve as it leaves the spinal canal through the foramen (the opening between the vertebrae through which spinal nerve roots travel and exit to other parts of the body). Neural foraminal stenosis may occur in either the lower back (lumbar spine) or the neck (cervical spine), and be caused by an osteophyte, a foraminal herniated disc, or collapse of the disc space ))) I interpreted this as a “ pinched nerve,” hence, the pain and numbness- burning symptoms.. .. sorry for such a “ wordy” post.. Iam frustrated as my PCP seems to be “ minimizing my problem..” also, she didn’t interpret the X-rays or at least look up what it means- if she wasn’t sure .. Ice packs 🧊 and naproxen are helping me cope with everyday responsibilities.. Going to PT seems to be making it worse- but going with the PCPs recommendations until I see the specialist. thank you for listening to a frustrated patient.. God bless ✨💛✨ .

Now this is what i do...stretches for shoulder, scapular and trapezius muscles IE learnt from utube....2nd a massive wheat bag i put in the microwave and apply to painful areas.. I use that.for sometimes hrs laying watching.tv At night... I use lavender oil and a menthol heat rub called dencorub.. 3rdly i dose up on meds... What can happen as i explained my left arm is the.one playing up but it has to be.the right side according to MRI scan...your muscles will react to the nerve being squashed or compressed and lock up and create big knots and different muscles like rope.. So my problem stems from right but the.muscles on left are somehow agrevating left side.. Finally for me they will have to drag me to get surgery ,so weight loss, stretching and if you can afford it someone who knows the human body and massage where is needed and bring blood flow back into Painful trigger points/knots and work out the rope tight ones..heat and ice therapy St home and that's all i can say... The.pain got me depressed and an alcoholic ,drinking to cope.. God bless and i pray you.find what you need to get.better...ooh and prayer can help too..🙂 Dave fr3
@@maylynacosta6916 there's a chiropractor who is quite left field but interesting,he talks about discs and how they can grow again with blood flow...(John Bergman) i think he's talking to student as he takes a long time and waffles on, but worth taking a look as he sais the medical system is bad and you hardly ever should see a surgeon...🤠
Gday, I have just had an MRI that confirmed a C7 nerve root compression on the left side. I am awaiting to see a neural surgeon in the next week or two. The symptoms described by your patient here is exactly what I am experiencing. What do you expect the treatment to be for this?
Surgery Isn't The Solution for Spinal Problems, It May Cause Further Degeneration and Nerve Damage. Instead you Should Seek for Good Chiropractor & Wear Cervical Collar.
Anthony I'm curious what was causing the compression on your C7 nerve root? Was it a herniated disc or bone spurs? Did you seek treatment and get any relief? I also am suffering w C7 nerve root compression from bone spurs and I am highly considering surgery. Any information you might have would be most helpful. I hope you are doing well. Thank you.

Great video! Some searching brought me here. It went from neck discomfort to pain in neck and shoulder, right in the shoulder cuff. Now it gets numb at the shoulder and down into my thumb. Thank God I get relief at night when I lay on my back.
How do feel now??
It’s worse for me when I lie down 😩
I feel for this guy.. I have the exact same thing. Suffering through a flare-up right now, left side. Thanks for the videos.
You are welcome!
I have the same, just got the surgery, now need to rebuild the strength. I wish I was near Paul!
I’m going through it rn it hurts so bad

Thank you

Thank you for posting this very informative and helpful video. I was helping my girlfriend move. In 2017, I turned 51. I was using a single hand truck to move a double door refrigerator. I had to dead lift it up one large step and over the doorway entrance of the kitchen area from the back of the house. I am left handed. Later that night, the next, day, and for weeks, I started having pain on my left side around my left lower shoulder area where the shoulder blade flexes near the spine. I used a tennis ball and lay on it to try and massage the area. It helped a little, but I ended up using liquid Fire and Ice to help with the symptoms. Well, since that time, September, 2017 til now, February 2020, I have had numbness in my left hand, left index finger. It sometimes improve a little when I tried a few exercises I saw about a year ago, but the problem has never gone away. It almost seems like I tore a nerve or something because the problem never went away.
Best guess from this video, it seems as if I have a C7 Pinched Nerve. Can you give me any guidance on how I can return normal feeling to my Left Index Finger? I would appreciate any response you can provide, as I can go and see my chiropractor if that can solve the problem. Thanks in advance. Mark, Fresno, California. :)

Hi can you please explain this to me?
At C6-7, there is a further broad-based disc osteophyte bar with minor narrowing of the right sided exit foramen and moderate encroachment upon the left-sided C7 exit foramen.
The nerve root C7 foramen exists between C6-7
Does that mean stenosis?
So you really only want to do surgery for less of sensation and weakness? not really just for pain?
I have only mild diffuse disc bulge at c4 and c5 2years before, but now due to 5 days hectic travelling one month ago feel back pain along with tingling nerve pain in fingers of both hands especially at night, but MRI report shows that no significant abnormality, what will be the reason
It is possible you have carpal tunnel. Not very likely that a pinched nerve in the neck would affect both sides. Try a wrist splint on one hand at night and see if it make a difference. If it does, you need to be thinking carpal tunnel.

Hi Paul,
I was doing a side arm raise on the right side when something went/slipped on the left side of the spine and caused me terrible pain.
I'm in the same boat!
I dont know Nerves.just arms shake alot.and lots of tingling down my back.legs.feet get bit red.anyone have this.Thankyou.
I have to keep doing this until the tissues relax fully. takes 2-3 weeks.

ive been living with pain running down my right arm and scapula as well and both arms having numbness and tingling..
I had to ask my doctor to order
X-rays of my neck and it showed “moderate neural foraminal stenosis of c1-c7 and T1..”
Saw my PCP for a follow up of my X-rays, and she told me, “ you have arthritis in your neck..”
I told her I think it’s more than that as I’ve been having the pain with burning and numbness symptoms..
Iam finally going to see a Physiatrist and my PCP wrote my diagnosis “ Neck Strain .”
when I looked up the diagnosis in “ Layman’s terms” it said,
(((compression of a spinal nerve as it leaves the spinal canal through the foramen (the opening between the vertebrae through which spinal nerve roots travel and exit to other parts of the body). Neural foraminal stenosis may occur in either the lower back (lumbar spine) or the neck (cervical spine), and be caused by an osteophyte, a foraminal herniated disc, or collapse of the disc space )))
I interpreted this as a “ pinched nerve,”
hence, the pain and numbness- burning symptoms..
.. sorry for such a “ wordy” post..
Iam frustrated as my PCP seems to be “ minimizing my problem..”
also, she didn’t interpret the X-rays or at least look up what it means- if she wasn’t sure ..
Ice packs 🧊 and naproxen are helping me cope with everyday responsibilities..
Going to PT seems to be making it worse- but going with the PCPs recommendations until I see the specialist.
thank you for listening to a frustrated patient..
God bless

How do you feel now
Damn guess this is more common than I thought. Trying to do my own research as the VA doctors don't explain much. My MRI reveal c6-c7 osteophyte complex causing severe nerve root impingment on the left foraminal side. Something like that. My doctor wants me to try injections before doing neurosurgery.
How feel now
I’ve got the same thing. Who is a good doctor in NJ or CA? I’m in CA now trying to get better insurance.
How do u feel now??
Any updates
Thank you for sharing this for everyone. My ner clve conduction test shows bilateral significant C6 C7 nerve root lesion, left upper limb showed chronic partital denervation with reinnervation to left tricep and FCR muscle. Motor unit recruitment was significantly reduced in the first two muscles. Is this something i should investigate further with getting an MRI scan? Maybe chiropractor visit? Any advice would so appreciated. Thank you

What would you suggest if you were diagnosed with a herniated c6c7 via mri. Had chest pain, arm/armpit pain. And symptoms went away? Sometimes feeling them very mildly
Well he said leave comment ... no answers tho..hmm
Hi I had MRI many years and it showed cervical bulging discs in a few areas. I can't recall which area. Over time this progressed into a slightly forward head posture and uneven shoulders. Lately I've been getting extreme diziness; pinched nerve in my neck shoulder region and ear pain / fullness. Are my symptoms common??
Dizziness is not common with disc issues but you could have a combination of a couple things.
I am suffering from the same thing right now. Earaches, dizzyness, chest pain. Did you get treated?
@@wizzy1223 I thought I did with alot of massages and little bit of chiropractic adjustments. But lately I caught a viral fever and stress it's back again.
@@wizzy1223 are you getting treated for the same?
does this causes muscle waste? or MND?
I went in for c5-7 posterior and anterior they did anterior on Tuesday with corpectomy a titanium plate. On Thursday went to go for release of nerves cause I was told I could have paralysis. They put me under and no surgery was done. I woke with lacerations to my scalp 13 staples and told they could not do posterior due to my anatomy. Neck short and buffalo hump. .?? Now I went 35 days could not take my medication or solid food. I’m in so much pain numbness burning and legs go numb to my knees. I’m 68 y/o I’m ruined. I was told the nerve pain would be better but now I’m worse.
My only suggestion Augusta would be to get another opinion.
I need to know if Bruce is alive and well RIGHT NOW!!!
Yes. Doing absolutely great!
Is this only can be cured by surgery? Compression of c5 c6 and c6 c7..
I’ve tried all this and going in on February 24th for a c4-c7. I hope it works. I just feel so broken.
Hi Mohan, you can try PT, traction before seeing a surgeon.
@@carollang6090 did you end up getting the triple fusion for c4-c7? If so, how are you feeling now? I'm on a priority wait list for c5-c7 ACDF and wondering about results and recovery time. Thanks for your time, hope you are feeling more like yourself, kind regards.
I heard you say he would be getting a fusion. Why a fusion when artificial disks are available? I hear fused disks frequently cause damage to the adjacent disks and and 10 years later, they may need surgery.
Hi Mark, Not all patients have the correct anatomy to place an artificial disc into. Situation and patient dependent. I've asked a few neurosurgeons that question.
Thank you . How can repair damaged c7 or c6 ??
My neurologist by emg and nerve conduction says I have compressed C6&c7. When I tilt my head upwards and cough feel electric shock / numbness down both arms and some times spasms. It's terrible
I assume you are going to go see a neurosurgeon for an evaluation?
Do you get diziness and ear pain?
How do you feel now
I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and after an mri I had a few years back it was found my C6 and C7 were naturally compressing. I've had neck difficulties my entire life, but I'm beginning to get a numb, tingling sensation through both my arms (down to my hands), over my lower face and below my chin, and over my chest. I'm getting another mri done next week just to check nothing has progressed, but my spinal doctor doesn't recommend surgery by any means, as with EDS patients the surgery often makes the issue worse :( Is there anything you would recommend to relieve this feeling. It makes my heart rev up whenever I get these short bursts of tingling too. Thanks :)
Take physical therapy to relax ur nerve

Sir I have been suffering from pain in both right and left hand whrist and left shoulder and left elbow in that case which exercise would be helpful, please tell about the exercises.
Hi Mandeep, If you have a pinched nerve in your neck, you may want to try traction. Hard to give exercises without evaluating you.ruclips.net/video/fFbS5qrRPS8/видео.html

Hi! How do I SLEEP with this. My doctor appointments are 3 weeks to a month apart and so after almost 3 months now I finally got my MRI and referral to an orthopedic doctor but I can't see him for another month. They had me on 100mg of gabapentin and it did nothing. I convinced them to up it to 300mg 3x a day and it does seem to help during the day by about 50% but at night when I go to sleep I wake up between 2 to 4am in SO much pain I really can't find a way to calm it down so I can sleep so I just end up getting very little sleep each night. It SUCKS.
Hi Paul got a question for you I got a natural c6 c7 fusion I was born with that leaves me with debilating migraines that makes me sick also with muscle stiffness physio says I got too much motion with also agressive arthritis in lower back wich is sending pain in the upper legs also have a straight spine with no curves and I am a concrete worker what suggestion would u have for me that would help with everyday struggle
From here I can't help you much but being with a physio is a good idea.

I had a C6-C7 foraminotomy in 2013. My sxs have returned and I'm having radicular sxs in the past few days. My landlord just had neurosurgery to get a "new disc" without a discectomy and fusion. Can I avoid a discectomy and fusion now? Is that a thing?

How long can you have weakness before it’s too late to fix with surgery? I’m 7 weeks in and all my pain is resolved but my numbness in my 2 fingers and my weakness have made zero improvements. Surgeon said deltoid and tricep weakness. I have a C6-7 herniation pressing on the spinal cord. They are telling me I have to have surgery quickly before 10-12 weeks to have the best recovery from the deficits. 🤷🏼♀️

I've had fusions at c5-c6 and c6-c7 in 2 acdf surgeries for disc ruptures. This patient must be on medication for nerve pain, such as lyrica. The pain is so severe. Every movement of the neck compresses the disc into the nerve root.
zoomix you had it done? Same I to have done if surgeon allows it my bones were what you call it the shape triangle my bones in neck a mess so not sure if they’ll do it, how was your recovery
Yes this guy was pretty miserable. Doing better now that he has had surgery.
Hi All, hope someone can help.
I had a c6/c7 decompression. I still have pain in my forearm though so had a scan and the results said
There is some proximal stenosis bilaterally at c6/c7 (more so on the left). The surgeon has said he disagrees with the radiologists findings. I am still in pain though and the surgeon has discharged me.
Anyone got any suggestions.
I am in Lyrica for the nerve pain which isn’t really helping. Saw my Gp and he thinks I have tennis elbow???
Hard to tell without a physical exam. But...If you move your neck and your elbow hurts, it's not tennis elbow. Also, if you try neck traction and your arm feels better, it is your neck. Check out my cervical spine playlist on my Chanel
I am in pain with the same thing and I was looking for an answer... Not fusion......heal me jesus
yes i am in pain too with the same thing numbness of c6,c7 shoulder, chest and back shoulder...also in the neck what therapy or excercise to do please help...
@@maylynacosta6916 i have knumness and weird electrical buzzing with weakness in my left hand a pain that as times be a 7' out of ten as far as pain scale and a very painful shoulder and a very painful scapula which is upper back to the left...The funny thing is Maylyn is the root nerve compression is on the right side in thr3.levels ,the worst being the common place for trouble l6 and l 7..no physio, no chiro has or can help and a nuro surgeon just wants large sums of cash and wants to fuse stuff together... Doctor has just given me lyrical which helps with nerve pain and targin which is oxy cotin and. Naloxone... So.doctor can drug me up and everyone helps to take your money, which i don't have any now....
Can this affect the bottom of your feet?
No it can't. Good question.
I had a similar question though
I have terrible back pain from C6 C7 and S1 plus burning in the bottom of my feet when I stand. What's the cause of that?
I also have L3 and L4 bulging
Gday, I have just had an MRI that confirmed a C7 nerve root compression on the left side. I am awaiting to see a neural surgeon in the next week or two. The symptoms described by your patient here is exactly what I am experiencing. What do you expect the treatment to be for this?
Don't go for surgery
Surgery Isn't The Solution for Spinal Problems, It May Cause Further Degeneration and Nerve Damage. Instead you Should Seek for Good Chiropractor & Wear Cervical Collar.
Anthony I'm curious what was causing the compression on your C7 nerve root? Was it a herniated disc or bone spurs? Did you seek treatment and get any relief? I also am suffering w C7 nerve root compression from bone spurs and I am highly considering surgery. Any information you might have would be most helpful. I hope you are doing well. Thank you.
