I get the ancient traditions of cultures. I really do. But cannot someone they respect teach that these endangered species may one day be gone forever? Then what happens? How do they adjust to that scenario? …..Perhaps this teaching is happening already. If so please share that information. It is sad to think species go extinct because of human beliefs and behaviors. …..I ask this question with deep respect and not judgement. I just want us all to do better……whatever that may be. Thank you for hearing my thoughts.

8:10 I’m from the Virgin Islands 🇻🇮and we’ve been eating the Box Fish for decades. We literally call them Shell Fish because of its outer body structure. I also found out that it is called a Cow Fish because some species have little horns on their heads like actually cows. We normally split them open from the bottom or top, clean out the guts and stuffed them with anything ranging from season rice, crushed crackers or plantains and roast them over hot coals or just bake them in the oven. They are quite popular among the older folks or those who have knowledge of them. Over the years though, they seem to have become more and more scarce and their popularity has diminished. I’ve seen some as big as shoe boxes in my time . Nowadays, folks pay hundreds of dollars in the United States to have these as pets in their aquariums.

Your most awesome Jakarta episode yet.....I haven't seen Indonesian foodie TV shows reviewing these foods. The goat thing just meant how they slaughter the goat, slice the neck so the blood exits the body quickly and not left in the meat. Goat sate is rather common in Jakarta and it's usually not gamey, and young goat meat is particularly tender and delicious.

I give a ton of kudos for Sonny for not eating and/or featuring any eating of endangered animals in any of his videos but also not completely ignoring it or acting like it doesn't happen either. It's kind of refreshing to see someone actually acknowledge and talk about it with locals to get their side of it. A lot of RUclipsr's will simply ignore this or carefully try to walk around the topic completely or even pretend it just doesn't happen.(I always thought hosts of a travel show ask a shop owner "do you sell endangered animals?" and the owner will say "No, never!" or "We used to, but not anymore!" like they actually think someone would voluntarily incriminate themselves in front a camera like that! It's only done to placate the viewers watching, so they don't feel bad about watching it.) But the thing is that it does happen and the more people know about this, the bigger chance we have at finding a solution to this issue. People really need to know just how common stuff like that is, and to learn why people are catching/killing and then selling these endangered animals, whether it be as an "exotic delicacy", "medicine", or for religious practice/belief purposes. Education is vital to the survival of these endangered species!

It's only done to placate the viewers watching, so they don't feel bad about watching it.)
But the thing is that it does happen and the more people know about this, the bigger chance we have at finding a solution to this issue. People really need to know just how common stuff like that is, and to learn why people are catching/killing and then selling these endangered animals, whether it be as an "exotic delicacy", "medicine", or for religious practice/belief purposes. Education is vital to the survival of these endangered species!
