    I had the same problem.a random misfire ,3 & 4 I replaced the spark plugs but,I had to replace the Four coil ,it was faulty ,,,,I appreciate your time to solve this problem...Thank you so much...thank you,thank you ,tank you.

    My 2009 Mini had exactly the same symptom as yours. Went ahead and changed the plugs but it kept on shaking. Performed the test on the coils and found coil 1 was bad. Replaced it and voila! Thank you much.

    Sparkplug socket isnt a 15mm and the actual socket has a boot to keep the plug from falling out. Also a little antiseize goes a long way. NGK plugs also do not require antiseize, they have a slip washer installed.

  • @FurkanCemTurfanda
    @FurkanCemTurfanda 6 лет назад +10

    NGK specifically says NOT to use anti-sieze for their plugs, so for people watching it is something to keep in mind.

    • @TheSOMotorsports
      @TheSOMotorsports  6 лет назад +1

      Furkan Turfanda fair, but seen quite a few of every brand get seized, so, rather anti seize them and prevent any chance. Granted I did think his application was excessive 😂

  • @ChevyCruizer
    @ChevyCruizer 4 года назад +8

    OMG...that is way too much antiseeze. you only need 1 dot for each plug. Also your oil in the spark plug wells is NOT from an oil change. It IS from a leaky valve cover gasket. There is an O ring around each spark plug well...that is leaking and will definitely make the spark plug misfire.

      So I installed the new coils on 3 outta 4 cylinders, still getting misfiring (on 2 and 4 primarily) , and a gas smell on a cold start..bad injectors? bad valve springs?

      Sadly could be the valves, I can't imagine what else it would be, but we are NOT experts or MINI trained mechanics, so check with a MINI dealership

  • @hankthebugman
    @hankthebugman 5 лет назад +2

    the oil could be due to a leaking valve cover gasket..they dry out and become brittle thereby allowing oil to weep by and enter the spark-plug hole... quite common in older motors....

    • @TheSOMotorsports
      @TheSOMotorsports  5 лет назад

      Very true but this was an extreme amount in 2 spots but all 4 also luckily never came back after we checked and replace the coils

    • @geoffrohde8524
      @geoffrohde8524 5 лет назад

      100% Hank ...Yesterday holes 1 and 4 had oil in them. So I cleaned the coils, replaced the spark plugs and changed my valve cover gasket without breaking anything (slow and steady I say). Gaskets were very hard (my MINI has 106000 miles on the clock). Took the car for a long run and checked again today ... no sign of oil in spark plug holes ... and it ran smoother.

  • @spacecoasttactical
    @spacecoasttactical 3 года назад +2

    You have bigger problems than a coil pack. The timing chain tensioner is on the way out and the oil is coming from a bad valve cover gasket.

  • @Jackoc1382
    @Jackoc1382 5 лет назад +3

    Hand tighten the spark plugs before using a ratchet as you can easily cross thread the head.

    • @TheSOMotorsports

      Make sure you don't have any loose charge pipes from the turbo to the intake too!

  • @nilesingalls
    @nilesingalls 6 лет назад +10

    the oil your mentioning at 1:05 is from valve cover gasket failure, which might have lead to the damaging the coil.

    • @TheSOMotorsports
      @TheSOMotorsports  6 лет назад

      Niles Ingalls that's what I thought but didn't see anywhere that it would have leaked from! Thanks

    • @spacecoasttactical
      @spacecoasttactical 3 года назад

      @@TheSOMotorsports It is often misdiagnosed as seepage is low. Most common cause is valve cover removal and replacement using original gasket and not being torqued correctly. Weak spot on the gasket is at 11 o'clock from plug hole #1

    Please research regarding how to properly torque spark plugs when using 'anti-seize'. According to the NKG website ngksparkplugs.com/en/resources/5-things-you-should-know-about-spark-plugs:
    Anti-seize compound can act as a lubricant altering torque values up to 20 percent, increasing the risk of spark plug thread breakage.

    Hey guys, thanks for the video. I'm watching because I had a misfire on my 2015 Mini R60. The check engine light came on and the 1/2 power light came on the steering console. It has been in the shop for "8" days and the mechanic still isn't sure what is wrong with it. He said he changed the plugs, checked the compression, changed all coils, replaced the injector on the misfiring cylinder (#4) and it's still misfiring. He now wants to try replacing the DME at $1,900.00. I'm freaking out! What should I do??

      Vanos solenoid is most likely but can also can be caused by a binding vacuum pump. Take out and clean the vanos solenoids, unbolt vacuum pump and turn it by hand to see if it is binding (should turn freely)

      Yes. Use the right socket (14mm 12 point thin wall long reach socket) Remove the connector from the coil pack BEFORE pulling it out. Don't put antiseize on the plug threads, just a TINY bit of copper grease. Also never, EVER, hold a live coil pack when the motor is running. If it has a short then get ready for a trip to the promised land

    Hi, I have 2007 mini cooper 2 doors, 212kms. After 10 minutes of driving, when I'm stopped on a red light its shaking the engine heavy and the rpm goes up and down. Could it be fixed if I replaced what u guys did?

    • @TheSOMotorsports
      @TheSOMotorsports  5 лет назад +1

      Potentially! Make sure you take it to a professional if possible when the problem occurs so he can tell you more positively. If not go ahead and change all 4 plugs and coils and see how it works. They should be replaced as routine maintenance anyway.
      As always we aren't mechanics so take our word at your own risk. It may or may not solve your issue, we have no way to work out a problem over youtube comments. Good luck!

    F**K ME... I did it backwards!! I had the misfire madness, so I replaced the coil packs FIRST and didn't replace the plugs. I cleared the codes and the p0301 didn't come back for a few weeks and NOW ITS BACK!!! Perhaps, my old coil packs weren't bad and it just needed new plugs. I should have known better, I DO KNOW BETTER. Always... ALWAYS start with the simplest, least expensive fix. Well $H!T...
