I absolutely love a lot of the 70s soul and disco tones. Especially Jazz bridge or stingray. I imagine a lot of them probably used 60s basses though? but I wish I knew more on the subject.

Tube amp and fender P-bass with flat wounds
I play DB as well as electric and I liken the tone of my Pbass with old strings to something like the DB... very little treble, fast decay and a thump.
