  • Today in Microsoft flight simulator we go over the new toolkit for vr and that is the Openxr toolkit for Nvidia and Amd gpu's (and most Vr headsets Ie. Htc Vive, Hp reverb g2, valve index, Pimax, Quest2 and many more). I go over where to find and download the software and then walk through the install. Next we enter vr and go through all of the settings in the openxr tool as well as settings in the openxr developer tool and steam vr resolution settings. This tool will greatly help the visial clarity of the vr session as well as give more fps for a smoother msfs2020 experience. please like and subscribe to the channel and questions please leave them below .

I gained about 6FPS in the area I fly. Upscaling at FSR or NIS seems about the same. With the upscaling factor at 80 and sharpening at 20 the clarity is pretty good. I'm running a 3080 Super and Oculus Quest. 37FPS in my area. I also love the larger cockpit. I'll give it a tougher test later but this was very helpful.

Great job m8. Was waiting on your video of it :) Did some other tests the other day and while I get the same performance gains with NIS vs FSR, the image itself in the G2 with FSR looks better. Not sure how to explain but with NIS it is more grainy or something, hard to explain.

    • @2020fsers

I have the g2 and it's great the clarity is great but not in dlss . So to use the reverb I suggest having a pretty beefy system . I have an i9 10850 and a rtx 3080ti just for reference. But if you can wait some new tech will be coming to the vr world soon. I also have a pimax and I always go to the reverb the performance and clarity is great . But keep in mind there is no perfect vr set so as long as you have that in you head you will be ok.

Hey dude, i know im a bit late but ive got a question for ya if you dont mind. So basically while running msfs 2020 vr i get acceptable performance, well considering how extremely heavy this game is, im okay with the 25-30fps im getting in vr, but im noticing some slight not bad resolution but kind of like bad picture quality i guess? i run everything on low- medium, and some settings on high, and ive been fiddling around with the settings but i think it has to do more with the actual headset (quest 2) then the game itself, anyways, i opened my oculus app on my laptop to check on the settings, so i went to the devices tab and there was a orange dot next to the quest 2, i clicked it and it said i was using a usb 2.0 cable and that i should change to usb 3.0 for a better experience, and i know its nothing from the hmd cuz on standalone it runs smooth as butter. I just wanted to make sure the cable was the issue before dishing out like 50$ for a link cable.
    Specs: i9 9980HK
    Gpu: RTX 2080 max q 90watt

You can get the 3.0 cable but make sure you have a 3.0 USB slot . Or turn down the bit rate and that may help also try that first before you buy the cable . One user said to turn down to half of what the quest is calling for.

@@2020fsers heyy dudee, late as always, but ive got an answer… i had to manually increase the bitrate from the oculus debug tool from 150 to 250 apparently is the max i could go with a 2.0, but holy crap the difference is night and day. Im thinking of buying a 5m kiwi link cable since my 2.0 cable is 1m give or take. You think it would be a good idea to up the bit rate to like 300 after buying the 3.0? Ive read that it takes a toll on performance but my card “should” handle it and i have quite an adequate cooling system for my laptop, by that i mean a 5 fan cooling pad under my laptop.

In v1.0.3 World scale works correctly, the larger the number - the bigger the world. At least with HP Reverb G2. I fly in real world for 15 years and I have measured lately the cockpit (although my eye memory is already enough) and correct world scale is 112%, larger then original msfs model. So if you scaling works other way around (smaller the number bigger the world) then try 88%. COckpits are small, folks, even in large planes.

My test results are quite different to you. I have a 3060 card. I started off in the Quest 2 settings at 80Hz and rendering at X 1.0 = 1760 pixels, I put myself in a Porter PC6 above Lukla and got 41 fps average using CAS option which tends to give me best graphics. In NIS mode when I reduce through 80% to 50% i get fps boost all the way up to 60 fps but the graphics are truly awful. If I increase the NIS to 120 or up to 150% I get same effect - FPS increase but unacceptable graphics. NIS higher or lower than 100% is not upscaling anything, quality gets worse, framerate increases. Back at 100% scaling Turbo gives me another 4-5 fps increase with no graphics detriment. Foveated rendring prest - balanced gives me another 5 fps boost with no noticable decrease in graphics quality. This gives me enough performance to go back to the Quest 2 settings and bump up the resolution scaling in the Oculus app to x 1.2 - 1.3 = 2128 pixels. The image resolution is noticably better and i'm back at around 41 fps again. I have to use the Oculus app to get any increase in graphics quality, the OpenXR toolkit then claws back the fps performance for me, without the toolkit running I'd be at about 27 fps.

When will someone explain in detail why and how to solve this issue. Likewise what about SteamVR. Do you or don't you need to have his running? If not how do you exactly open your game in VR if no separate option within your game exists to open said game in VR?

Why do you have your Steam VR resolution 'per eye' set to 3804x4224? The Hp Reverb G2 has 2160 x 2160 pixels per eye.. Even if you want to set the resolution for both eyes that comes down to 4320x2160 pixels.. And your valve index should have 1600 x 1440 pixels per eye and if you would set that for both eyes comes down to 3200x1440.. So I really wonder why you set like that?
I also do not understand why you first disable motion smoothing and later advice to increase predication dampening to reduce the head stutter it also seems to add 100ms delay..

Confused about NIS and FSR . You said choose one or the other and see which one works for you but If you Uninstall NIS how are you going to use it? And isn't NIS activated on GeForce Experience? Do you mean disable it until you install the toolkit then activate it and use it with the toolkit? One more, I thought that openxr was only used with the reverb G2 and windows mixed reality. How can you use or install openeXR on steam VR without mixed reality to work with the Valve Index? Thanks.

    • @2020fsers
      @2020fsers  Год назад

So I'll try and answer these as best I can . 1st I never say to uninstall nis .. nis is the scaling tool for nvidia . Second you do not need GeForce experience to use nis either in vr or monitor that's done in the nvida panel for monitor and the openxr toolkit for vr. Openxr is not only for the g2 it's for all headsets that are mixed reality. Steam uses its own openxr that can be found in the advanced menu and you can see it should say steam vr that's the openxr for steam . If using steam keep the steam version running not the windows version . Hope this helps . In vr using the openxr toolkit you can choose fsr or nis pick whatever one is best on your system I use fsr now and is great .

So with yours you are saying that jumping out of vr and back doesn't work ? Did you have to restart you vr software or sim or both?

@@2020fsers no, i didnt say, it is not working, i just wanted to ask , what exactly "jump out of vr session" means.. (original question was "restart steamvr" , and this.. is definitely, what i am NOT doing). Nevertheless, i just played some minutes with openXR Toolkit, and will do more tests this Weekend. Thank you for your Work.

Proportionately too much VR content. They represent less than 1%of MSFS users.
