I was a bit hesitant at first, but WOW… thank you so much for the detailed settings. I went through each video mentioned and all the software/tools/settings and my performance is amazing now. I’m getting a smooth 60fps with med/high settings.
Great video, my friend. For ME, there is no going back from DLSS (performance mode) and the CAS. I now have 4500x4500 in my G2 and get a stable 30+ fps with clouds on Ultra most of the time. Even over New York, low and personal. The clarity in the G2 is just INSANE now. To the point where I don't really see the need anymore to look for the Varjo or Pimax. Not even sure if I need to upgrade from my 3090, though I have to say the extra hp from the 4090 looks pretty dang tempting. Greetings from Norway. And Happy New Year to you !
Everyone says what a great video this is... well... let me tell you... IT IS!!! I've been playing around trying to get my G2 tuned in with mixed results and I was never happy. Following your settings REALLY helped, especially FFR, never really been a fan but it gave me a 10fps boost! I'd also like to say your style of presenting is spot on. Some presenters send me to sleep, you always keep me engaged in what your saying. Great job sir 👍
Just want to say your guide has brought my vr in msfs to life. The bios settings, toolkit etc has pushed my 13900k and 4090 to 80fps. Amazing results. I was stuck at 40fps with tearing and shimmering. No its a smooth 70-80 even over newyork. Thank you so much.
Oh man, you, my man might just be, the most knowledgeable man there ever was in terms of VR tweaking ever ... Oh man, thank You so much, I cannot express, so I will just tell you the outcome I got after I applied your tweaks, mainly, in the OpenXR Toolkit ... Drastic change in image quality ... drastic change in framerate and smoothness, do I need to go anymore?? You, Sir, are, the Wizkid of MFS2020 VR. Par none. Thank You a million, Sir, You might just have saved ... my experience with MFS2020 VR, I was becoming despondent ... again., my thanks know no bounds here, You, of all the fake info out here on RUclips, turned out right and true ... and for this ... I thank You. !!
Thank you for this video. I bought a PC back in May just for MSFS. I watched many videos, but the game has never performed this well, and the clarity improvements are very noticeable. The stuttering is what bothered me the most, and now I don’t notice it much at all. Thanks again!
The more videos I see, the more different settings I get.. the point is you can explain what the settings do and that was superb in this video, but everyone have to figure it out for himself what's the best for his system. I got a 6800 XT and reverb G2. For me it's the best visual with CAS and turbo mode on i turned 80% in openxr tools and played around with foveated Rendering the performance gain isn't that much for me, I sized the inner ring relatively high about 85% for good visuals. A huge performance gain for me was to set the texturequality in msfs2020 from ultra to high. Yeah all the guids say you have to put that on ultra and yes you can see a difference, but I got around 5 to 8 fps more. It's better for me to have clear slightly washout textures than blurry or pixelated high textures with low framerate. And it only affects the world not the cockpit for me. In the most situations you can't even see the ground textures because there are building objects, grass or trees cover them. Cloud settings are low, but I play often with live weather. I have around 35 to 38 fps in Manhatten with clouds and had a lot of fun diving through the skyscraper canyons and got a exciting race with a random live player who was doing the same at this moment. :-)
Thanks for the comment . Yes you are correct everyone needs to find the settings for their system because everyone's needs and system specs are different so i feel its important to play around with setting to suit your needs. Thanks for posting your settings and specs im sure it will help someone .
Your videos are amazing, thank you for everything you are doing for the community. I just built myself a new pc, with a Crosshair X670E Hero, AMD Ryzen 9 9750X, TUF Gaming RTX 4090 OC 24G, 32G mem at 6000mh, and I'm still following your tutorials. I guess no matter how powerful the PC, we still want the best performance and clarity in VR. Thanks again!
Exactly what Henry said. So many different systems out there and so many different settings. By explaining each of the settings, we users can better determine, whats the best for us. At the end its just a trial an error starting with reference! MHO
Great video, perfect timing!! Yesterday got exactly into the situation you're describing at 24:48.... my ('Aero') FPS just CRASHED; and I couldn't get it back. Mouse pointer moved like on a 1994 Compaq laptop. Your video gave me te reason, AND solution, why this was happening!! Thank YOU!👍🏻👍🏻 Was talking with 'Varjo' Tech Support trying to resolve my issue, and made them aware of your video, in case someone else gets into the same situation.
Good video, I'm on Valve Index with a 5800X3D, 3090 and just this week found my perfect settings and it's using DLSS believe it or not! SO I have OpenXR set to 130% FSR (this is the tweakable setting for anyone else's setup to hit the desired FPS), 65% sharpening. DLSS 'Quality' in the sim @100% resolution. Then in my Valve Index I have per application, forced OFF reprojection, target frame rate 45 fps, 300% Super Samples!! This still gave the odd stutter so I went into Nvidia control panel and limited the Sims FPS to 45. I have NEVER seen the game look so crisp and beautiful in VR and the Glass cockpit is as clear as using TAA AND the button on the panel have never been this crisp! My CPU and GPU even at busy airports sit beautifully high but smooth almost like in a tandem dance together. I was like anyone else hated DLSS, however today? I flew Mount Everest and I'm not ashamed to say I had a moment as I looked across the beautiful mountains. Give the DLSS a chance and upscale the heck outta it!
Great Video! Thank you very much. Very informative and clear. I was coming back to MSFS after a long break and was able to get my system ( Intel i9-9900K / GTX2080Ti ) up to speed again by following your steps. Got somewhat above 30FPS and decent clarity during my first tests.
Great tutorial and thanks for walking us through things as always! My specs are I7 9600k CPU, 32GB Ram and RTX2070 Super. Has always run pretty good with the settings high or ultra. I changed to the settings suggested in the game and I wasnt as lucky as some. Im a non VR flyer using 3440/1440 ultra wide with 100htz refresh. When i used TAA with the settings, I was in the 30's solid FPS, Never dropped below 32FPS. I was messing around with the DLSS setting and Have all the settings the same down below as you do and im in the 50's FPS with nothing below 51. Did same flights and same time of day and its hard to believe the difference between the 2. In both cases, it was smooth as whipped butter so its nice to know i have options.
Thanks for the comment.. dlss is hit or miss on some pc's unfortunately for me if I use it the glass screens become blurry. But that's awesome that you have good results with it.
Thanks for this great guide, the most comprehensive one on RUclips. I have a few questions about sharpening. Under the in-game section, you recommend to set AMD FidelityFX Sharpening to 100. Is this not the same as CAS available in the OpenXR Toolkit? Shouldn't we set this to zero and only use FSR sharpening to avoid over-sharpening, artefacts, etc.?
Great video and tips! One I found is In the Oculus Tray Tool if you change the FOV to 0.8;0,8 (80% horizontal 80% vertical) the performance increase is substantial. Imo the border is not noticeable
great video I'm flowing all your tweaks they just excellent I even maxed out all my settings in VR I get 42-46 FPS on ground and 45-55FPS above 1000FT even above downtown new York the only thing is when I'm almost 500FT on the approach i get cupel stuttering then go's back normal when I'm 100FT no effect on touchdown my internet speed is 600MB before your tweaks everything was medium and stuttering a lot you are the best 🙏👍
Great stuff!!! The key is to experiment with your system which of the recommendations work best for you, I have finally found my perfect settings after 3 months of trial and error
Great video. Thank you. I'm looking for a way to let spectators look at the screen to see what the pilot is seeing. But ideally with only one image instead of the split left/right view that is standard. How did you do it in this video from 49:00 on wards ? I know there is a function in SteamVr to open a VR view. But it's somewhat blurry. Yours looks sharp. I use a Pimax 5 xr.
I don't usually use vr for filming due to the poor resolution. I think I was using the varjo aero screen mirror for this. That's the only thing I know is the mirror .
Anisotropic filtering in MSFS gives better performance than at the driver level, at least it does for me. The reason is that the Asobo devs have tweaked the anisotropic filter in the sim depending on the surfaces being rendered, while the driver level just treats everything the same, which is less efficient.
I will try it again and see how it goes. In the past the setting in sim didn't do much so the panel was the way to go . But lots of updates since then so let's hope it's good again .. thanks for the info
With regards to the OpenXR Turbo Mode (@43:43), turning that on gave me an additional 5-8 fps (ReverbG2, R75800X3D, RTX4080), so I'm thinking it's worth turning on. Edit: I should add that was using DLSS... the bump with TAA was more like 2-3 fps, but did reduce stutter (CAS then eliminated stutter). We all have different ways of getting the desired results, I'm just glad we have the tools to do it. P.S. Thanks for posting this video, the OXR color settings are great
Appreciate this channel as a phenomenal resource! Great presentation and information covering many devices and scenarios! My nfo: Quest 2 & CV1, i7 4700k, 2080ti (reference), 16GBs sys ram - Game Pass FS2020 - Simcraft 3DOF motion Sim (currently mothballed) Would love to see a video on the MFS2020 Map Enhancement app and your thoughts on the High LOD Google Earth Pro satellite imagery streaming as it relates to VR.
Hey thanks for the comment 👍 I'm happy the video helped you. As far as the map enhancement mod I did a video on this before the paid subscription stuff and from the comments I see on the flightsim.to page I probably won't download it again due to issues that many people have not to mention I have had issues in the past after I used this that the textures on the ground did not go back to normal when I deleted it . I had to do a fresh install of the sim for it to get back to normal.
I have a i7 processor 32GB of RAM and a RTX 3070 card. Did all the sightings as you recommended have an HP Reverb G2 headset. One's companion was all set and running restarting computer. Best FPS I ever saw was 24fps. Whenever I got near any buildings or anything even at the airport went down to 5-6 FPS. What could be wrong? Thank you for any help.
They should my varjo isn't here yet so I can't test but they should be fine . Just takennotnof what you change and only do 1 or 2 things at a time this way if you have any ill affects you will easily be able to know what caused it and switch it back.
Great videos - is windows mixed reality a better runtime system for vr when playing msfs, I have a Quest 2 and its set to Oculus openxr runtime, some guides say the native oculus runtime is much better to use?
Love your settings and appreciate your detail and analysis. I have mentioned before about the increase in performance by using 60 hz over 90 hz. I now have the 4090 and still notice that difference even with that gpu. Both you and Mark at the Simhanger have claimed problems when using 60hz. I have 2 G2 headsets (I scratched the lens with my glasses and got the V2 when it came out) and haven't noticed any problems with either. I did have some issues with flashing like Mark claimed but it turned out to be a damaged cable from putting on and off the headset which bends the cable and overtime causes issues. I would love to use 90hz but since I can't even get 90 frames with the 4090 on TAA Ive found that 60 frames is possible and butter smooth at 60hz. Maybe when they get frame generation to work in VR I will try it but for now it's a no contest with 60 vs 90 for me.
@@2020fsers wonder why it's no problem for me? I'm pretty much using your settings even in the toolkit. I get turmendous stuttering with 90hz. Do you see flashing as Mark calls it. If you do that could be a damaged cable. Flashing could show up easier at 60hz. You could discovery if it's the cable by wiggling it where it bends the most when you take it off and put it on. I use a large loop there to help eliminate it happening again. The cable is a definate issue with the G2, Hp dosn't even have any in stock right now. You have to go to B&H Photo to order one and it still takes 90 days.
One can probably make a batch file to run but even if someone has the same system the silicon is different in the parts so things can vary with performance . I have seen it plenty of times.
@@2020fsers the day you posted this video, I followed everything as you did and got to run MSFS stunning, crisp image at about 35 FPS, the best image quality since I got into VR. Went to sleep and next time I started everything back, image was blurry 😥. I've been now 3 days struggling and unable to get the quality I experienced, so frustrating 🤯. I use Quest 2 headset and my PC specs are Core i9 12900k, RTX 3070, 32GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, I'm also using Oculus Tray Tool, any suggestion would be really appreciated 😊
Hello and thanks for the comment . My pc specs are i9 10850k oc 5.1 ghz on all cores 1.31volts on cpu 32gb ram at 4000mhz 1.35volt vram clk 17 , 1000 watt gold psu rtx3080ti undervolted and overclocked
Pushed Ctrl F2 and the OpenXr Toolkit menu doesnt pop open in game. I have the Varjo Aero Headset and have FS2020 checked in the companion app. Also unbind my Ctrl F2 key in the MSFS menu. Thoughts?
I also use a varjo and works fine for me . It will only open in game which is what you did say so I would email the developer he should be able to assist you .
Thanks for this very useful video. My rig is a 9900K with a 3090 GPU, the Quest 2 for VR and 32GB of RAM. After applying your setting I tried my arrow from Justflight. I’m generally impressed, however I noticed a lot of “shimmering” How would I be able to reduce that or get rid of completely? Thanks in advance for any tips. Cheers Karl
Hey thanks for the comment and question .the thing to try 1st restore your nvidia panel settings . Hit the restore button in the lower right I think on the panel and re try the sim. If it is good then it's 1 of the setting changes in there so do 1 or 2 changes at a time to see what was causing it. Probably a texture filtering option. Did you change any of your ott settings for the quest?
I can’t access my Nvidia control panel at the moment. Tried uninstalling the Nvidia Experience App because I thought that might be causing the problem. I’m going to have to fix that first I guess. I haven’t touched my ott settings. Did you mention that in your video too? I missed that I think. Anyway could you share an ideal setting for ott please? Thanks
What would say are the most important settings for avoiding stutters? I think I have my balance right but occasionally get stutters with certain head movements
It's really hard to say what can solve stutters because there are so many bugs and there are so many fixes lol. You can also check the msfsfixes playlist there are a lot of random fixes.
FYI, there is no Trilinear filtering in MSFS. The game uses Anisotropic filter, so that option does not apply. Also, there is no Opengl in MSFS. The game uses DirectX. Thanks for the video!
On my Quest 3, if I reduce the resolution in the OpenXR Toolkit, doesn't matter what percentage, all the instruments become unreadable, the digits are just nondescript blobs of grey pixels, MFD and GPS text is a wash, and no amount of sharpening will bring back any detail whatsoever.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Exar toolkit companion. I am in VR mode and and mirror mode just as you are but no matter what mode I'm in control F2 just not open the toolkit.
Wait. Having the setting on in Nvidia control panel keeps it on regardless of whats selected in the game? Does this also mean you could be running the option twice over?
no it doesnt work like that if you set it in the panel it will override the game so it wont double dip. but it only works like this in some settings not all of them for msfs.
I've been trying to use these settings but I have a very important question,, How do you get it into mirror mode ,where I can change the settings without having to but my headset on. Its killing me witkout this info bro.
Many thanks for this it has sorted out all my problems with vr in my reverb g2 since su11 I am in your debt it saved me rebuilding my computer oh and if it helps I am using 3080 gpu
Thanks, great video as always. I bought my first VR headset a couple of days ago and I'm following your tutorial here to get started. I have the DPVR E4 VR Headset and I have installed their software and Steam VR. When I go in Mixed Reality Portal it asks that I connect the VR headset, the thing is it is already connected but not detected. I unplugged it and reconnected it again same result. What am I doing wrong?
@@2020fsers Thank you for replying. I've been at this for a couple of days. It's all kind of confusing. So far it works in Steam VR but the graphics quality is worse than what I see in my 2k monitor. Should I install OpenXR or all I need is Steam VR? Is there a different beginners tutorial I should be watching to get started on the DPVR E4? CPU i7-4770K @ 4.0 GHz GPU NVidia GeForce 1080 Ti 11GB RAM 32GB Plenty of HD space and no Bluetooth
That headset is very new to the industry so there is not much info there yet. You may need to go into the steam vr settings and in the video section set a custom resolution at 100%. The openxr toolkit should work as well . What frame rates are you getting in vr ?
Oh I just saw the 1080ti . That gpu may not be enough to get good graphics out of the headset but again I'm just going from experience I have tested several headsets. A 2080TI or super would be the lowest I would go. Better to have a 4070ti or better .
Hello my friend I have a question about the open XR tool kit. Fortunately, I had a nice Christmas. I have the varjo aero and I am waiting on my Alienware R 15, 4090 64 gb 5200 MHz XMP with a 4 TB hard drive SSD. Pretty sweet I would say. do you think the open XR tool kit will be useful with my new system. Thanks for the video as always.
Hey merry Christmas 🎅 that is an awesome present 🎁. Yes the openxr toolkit is still beneficial for post proces colors and sharpening without it there is still blurry areas. I do t use any upscaling but I do use the other features in the toolkit. Every fps gain makes for a smoother gameplay.
First of all, thank you so much for your videos they have helped me no end, and I've gained many Fps by following them. One thing I do have trouble with though is my vr using the hp g2 reverb. I've had VR ever since I started with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Over a year ago, but I must say I've had problems with procedures using the headset ever since. It seems every time we get a new update in the Sim, I start having problems even though I am religiously erasing my Shader cashe and erasing my Rolling cache in the sim. I have my windows mixed reality setup as you do. That is, to start when it senses that I am wearing it (see photo) But it seems unless I Don't Wake up the headset before I boot into MSFS I get a black screen in the headset even though the goggle picture is showing on my monitor. When the headset does recognise my presence by pulling down the support bands a blue bar appears above my pc monitor saying that I need to press H +Y in order to start even though the headset has already started. When I do press H+Y the Blue Bar disappears but so does the pc screen. For some reason it minimises itself and I have to click on the badge to bring it back to the screen. Then there's a whole lot of shaking going on in the headset until I actually make the PC screen a small size within the Monitor. If I don't do this and leave the screen maximised I don't get reasonable frames per second. So, it's a dilemma. I don't like running the headset so long while I'm setting up things in the SIM but that's what I have to do if I want VR to remain working. I'm worried because little white flashes are beginning to appear in the screen on the headset and I'm worried if the vision might be ready to burnout. Anyway, I would much appreciate it if you could throw any light on why my headset seems to do the opposite of what I set it up for. I've tried contacting HP with no answer, and I've tried going on discord and hooking up with Microsoft flight simulator but they no one has answered my queries yet. Please help me if you can. You seem to have a great sense of how the computer is working with the SIM and the headset so maybe one day you could make a video on the best way to troubleshoot VR. Cheers for now
That's a very strange issue . You shouldn't need to have the headset on at all to start msfs2020. Ok so in the mixed reality portal in startup and desktop make sure Start mixed reality portal when my headset present sensor detects that I'm wearing. It is checked and in the input switching. Make sure automatically switching using headset present sensor is selected. And below that in classic apps, make sure you uncheck that.
That's what's making it all so strange. Very carefully had those things that you suggested in place a long time ago and it used to work that way but now every time I put on the headset that blue bar comes on above with the text saying use the H + Y to start the headset which is actually already going. I was thinking maybe I should uninstall The mixed reality portal app and then reinstall it in case there's some kind of cashe messed up in that? Also, I can't understand why if I don't start the headset before booting up the sim, I get lots of lags and stutters and usually my mouse pointer lags and leads to the sim crashing. Anyway, leave it with me as I am going to get the use of another hp reverb G2 and I will be able to see if that acts the same way on my computer. I will keep you in the loop cheers and thanks.🙃
I'm working my way through your entire video right now. I'm on Nvidia control panel and my antialising mode does Not have application controlled, just 2,4,8x. what choice to use? ty
@@2020fsers yes I am using that driver I saw the asobo warning on another site. Also I am using a Reverb G2 and have an i7 with a RTX 3070 card. 550 not enough for a 3080 or 3090 maybe for a 3060. 3080 I would use a 750 minimum and a 3090 a 1000 would be a good option . I use a 1000 on my 3080ti.
Every time I turn off the Nvidia latency in my Microsoft flight simulator options when I exit the page of options go home come back option to keeps turning itself back on I cannot keep it turned off
Ok make sure that the pc setting is off don't mess with the vr setting . When you go into vr then check the graphics setting it should be off . What ever you set the pc to will be the vr setting also .
@@2020fsers thank you yes that did work. I was also wondering if there was any benefit to turn image scaling on in the Nvidia control panel? The very first choice on the control panel
I've tried OpenXR in the past and watched several videos about making this playable in VR, but it looks like the GTX 1080 is no longer the powerhouse it used to be. I figured with tweaks it would still make this game playable, but I'm lucky if I get 30fps with laughably potato graphics, so it's just not playable in VR at all. However, I'm still going to watch this video and try again because I'm never going to give in and pay $1000 for a GPU just to play this one game in VR when I can play every other game perfectly fine. 😄
@@2020fsers I'm actually getting there, even if I did have to turn down almost everything in the game settings to low. The only thing I'm not seeing in the OpenXR settings is FFR, which I think would help a lot here. I don't know if they took it out since you made this video, but I'm definitely not seeing it. Edit: Oh, never mind! Just saw it's not supported in 1000 series cards, so I'm out of luck there. Looks like I'll have to settle for 35-40fps for now, which is just playable.
I think it would be good to show an evaluate your CPU and GPU frametimes / load in the videos. There is no way that reducing the FOV (or pixels rendered) that much had 0 impact on performance. Rather I think you were being limited by something else. Reducing FOV effectively is reducing the headset resolution which we all know is probably the biggest impact on performance.
@@2020fsers I tried the G2 Reverb Professional Edition but I had a terrible experience with VR. I might think my expecations were to high for my GPU but at the time, it was only the 3090 that was a better choice. I had a lot of tearing and stutter when flying.

Do you have a video on what to do if you get a message from Msfs your graphics device has encounter a problem will exit maybe due to over locking ,overheating or a driver fault. I checked data was 26 setting so don’t think this is a problem. Is a higher end Pc. It happens all the time even at beginning launching msfs
Ron I’m pretty sure have clocked your GPU MFS is very sensitive use MSI afterburner and use the Scanner to do the clock for you it’s safe pushed the card a touch, but yea sounds like you have pushed the GPU too much
it depends on the headset if using an oculus quest then you may get away with setting tweaks . if using a hp reverb or varjo or pimax you need a 4090 card to achieve the frame rate you are looking for not to mention an i9 processor . I also assume you want that frame rate on the ground at the airport not at 40000 feet .
@@2020fsers what is the difference being at 40.000 feet? this is a problem of perception and smoothness in your visual input. At 40.000 feet you still see the interior of the cockpit , horizon etc.

No worries, do you have a pattern account? The work you put out is fantastic and very helpful. I have one question, do you leave ISLC running while the sim is active?
What is a pattern account? 🤔 thank you for the kind words I put a lot of work into these vids . Yes the islc stays running all the time just hit start and minimize it.
The new 3080ti drivers are not great either I had to revert back . Try the studio drivers they seem more stable unless you play many other newer games.
WHAT A DISASTER THIS VIDEO WAS FOR ME! I finally spent the bucks and upgraded to a 4070ti and a fast motherboard/CPU. Took the machine home and was amazed how MSFS looked without making any system changes with my G1 VR. Just sitting at the ground was over 36fps. Going over London was amazingly smooth, but I decided to go to this video and tweak anything that might help improve anything that I could anyway. Spent two hours fussing with it all to make sure I copied every setting just right. Now when I fly over London, it is a total mess. On the ground before takeoff, I can only get 25fps. The whole experience is so jittery it makes my head spin. Even rebooting the machine didn't help. I made the mistake of not noting what all my settings were before I made the changes and now I might as well just remove MSFS from my computer. I have no idea what specific thing is causing the degradation in performance and don't know what to increase or decrease. I appreciated the explanations, but seriously, I don't really understand what the code is doing under the hood. How many dozens of hours must I spend researching and experimenting for this game? I just want to scream, but I am too depressed to even do that. What a goddam disaster!
I would reset your settings to default I'm not sure what all you changed but it's never good to make multiple changes at 1 time due to issues with some settings on certain pc setups. Not to mention you won't know what setting is causing issues. Restore the nvidia panel to default and retest . Also if it isn't broke don't fix it so if you have great results on your system and are happy don't change anything keep it as is. In global settings in the nvidia panel hit restore and in the program setting use the restore as well most likely its in there .
@@2020fsers Thanks for the quick response. But just before I read your message here, I did notice that I could do a factory reset of NVIDIA Control Panel settings and sure enough, that got me back to where I was when I took the machine home. I thought I was getting 36 fps on the runway back then, but maybe I was mistaken because it still shows 25fps after the reset. However, now there isn't the severe jerkiness when flying over London, although some jerkiness is still there, which is why I wanted to improve my settings with your video in the first place. I am really creeped out in making any changes now since so many seem to interact with each other in unpredictable ways. All this "trial and error" mode of doing things is terribly unproductive of my time. I know avoiding that is the purpose of your video, but it seems we just aren't there yet. What kills me is that others have videos on the same stuff with slightly different settings and I am left totally lost trying to see who really solves the jittering. At least the 4070ti is much better than my old 2080ti. The problem is that I don't really know just how good a performance I should be getting. I feel it could be better, but I simply don't know.
Ok that's great that you have it running again . As for the 4070ti im.not sure of the type of performance you should have . I haven't seen many videos on msfs with the 4070ti.
@@2020fsers I haven't reset anything in the Open XR Toolkit after making your changes. I don't really understand many of those settings at all. Maybe things are now worse there because of those changes without corresponding changes you recommend on the NVIDIA Control Panel, but I just don't know. I am scared to touch that XR Toolkit.
Ok so an easy thing you can do is in the companion app for the toolkit tick the disable box and start the sim and try without the toolkit to get a baseline
By far the best one stop place to learn settings from an expert in MSFS. Also love the production edits with humor, nicely done sir!
Thanks so much!! Glad it helped
I was a bit hesitant at first, but WOW… thank you so much for the detailed settings. I went through each video mentioned and all the software/tools/settings and my performance is amazing now. I’m getting a smooth 60fps with med/high settings.
Hey thanks for the comment 😀 I'm happy it helped you 😀
Great video, my friend.
Same good results as well with CAS, DLSS, and around 4000x4000.
Thanks for the comment 😀 I'm happy that little trick works for people ! And thanks for posting your results
Same results here. Even with my 3090, DLSS is a must for me, never going back. MSFS has never been so smooth and beautifull with my quest 2.
Thanks 😊
Are you flying GA planes or airliners? I hate the loss of clarity in the glass cockpit. So I'm still in the TAA camp.
Thank you very much Rich 😊 I appreciate the kind words . 🙏
Great results thanks for the comment 👍 😀
Great results thanks for the comment 👍 😀
Bios Settings? I'm still stuck with 50-60 on a high end PC (7800x3d, 4090, etc.).
Most likely referring to tyrn on xmp mode, turn off virtualization, another thing that is also helpful is turn off hyperthreading .
I appreciate the comment and happy it helped 😊
Thank you for this video. I bought a PC back in May just for MSFS. I watched many videos, but the game has never performed this well, and the clarity improvements are very noticeable. The stuttering is what bothered me the most, and now I don’t notice it much at all. Thanks again!
That's fantastic I love to hear that . Thanks for the comment 👍
Dang you have a powerhouse there. Great setup. 👍 thanks for the comment im happy the vids can help . 😊
Exactly what Henry said. So many different systems out there and so many different settings. By explaining each of the settings, we users can better determine, whats the best for us. At the end its just a trial an error starting with reference! MHO
Yes it is very much trial and error unfortunately.
Thank YOU!👍🏻👍🏻
Was talking with 'Varjo' Tech Support trying to resolve my issue, and made them aware of your video, in case someone else gets into the same situation.
Im so happy this helped you solve that issue you had ! Thanks for the comment 😀 and thanks for telling varjo ..
That's awesome thanks for the comment and your settings much appreciated 😀
Great Video! Thank you very much. Very informative and clear. I was coming back to MSFS after a long break and was able to get my system ( Intel i9-9900K / GTX2080Ti ) up to speed again by following your steps. Got somewhat above 30FPS and decent clarity during my first tests.
Great to hear thanks for the comment 👍
Shouldn't we set this to zero and only use FSR sharpening to avoid over-sharpening, artefacts, etc.?
thanks for the comment .. the cas in openxr toolkit is different . i set my cas to 100 in openxr and in sim im using 100 to 130 amd fsr sharpening
@@2020fsers is It not other way around, i.e CAS=100 in SIM and FSR=100/130 in OpenXR?
I use cas in openxr set to 100. In the sim amd fsr sharpening I set to 120 to 130
Great info thanks! Your description is nicely done!
thanks for the comment !
Another fantastic and very helpful video. Your videos on VR have been so helpful and produce some great results, very well done.
Thank you so much .. I'm happy they help ☺️ and thanks for the comment
Great video and tips!
One I found is In the Oculus Tray Tool if you change the FOV to 0.8;0,8 (80% horizontal 80% vertical) the performance increase is substantial. Imo the border is not noticeable
Great tip thanks for the comment 👍
great video I'm flowing all your tweaks they just excellent I even maxed out all my settings in VR I get 42-46 FPS on ground and 45-55FPS above 1000FT even above downtown new York the only thing is when I'm almost 500FT on the approach i get cupel stuttering then go's back normal when I'm 100FT no effect on touchdown my internet speed is 600MB before your tweaks everything was medium and stuttering a lot you are the best 🙏👍
That's fantastic thanks for the comment .. those stutters you get on approach is a msfs issue not much you can do about them
Great stuff!!! The key is to experiment with your system which of the recommendations work best for you, I have finally found my perfect settings after 3 months of trial and error
Very true 👍 thanks for the comment
Great video. Thank you. I'm looking for a way to let spectators look at the screen to see what the pilot is seeing. But ideally with only one image instead of the split left/right view that is standard. How did you do it in this video from 49:00 on wards ? I know there is a function in SteamVr to open a VR view. But it's somewhat blurry. Yours looks sharp. I use a Pimax 5 xr.
I don't usually use vr for filming due to the poor resolution. I think I was using the varjo aero screen mirror for this. That's the only thing I know is the mirror .
Wow... Just WOW!!! From ~18 to ~50 FPS Thank you so much
Awesome thanks for the comment
Great video and very well explained, thank you. Have you looked at the new update to OpenXR and new settings? Not the toolkit but just OpenXR.
thanks for the comment .. no i havent looked at those settings.
Great Video, Learned allot. I went though everything you showed came back and it did not save, setting were back to default. How do you save?
What settings are you referring to?
like button isn't enough for this video, we need ton of HEARTS! thanks a lot bro!
Thanks so much 🙏 your welcome my friend 😊
Wow. I am so glad i watch this video. Made a world of difference. Thanks
Your welcome thanks for the comment
With regards to the OpenXR Turbo Mode (@43:43), turning that on gave me an additional 5-8 fps (ReverbG2, R75800X3D, RTX4080), so I'm thinking it's worth turning on.
Edit: I should add that was using DLSS... the bump with TAA was more like 2-3 fps, but did reduce stutter (CAS then eliminated stutter). We all have different ways of getting the desired results, I'm just glad we have the tools to do it.
P.S. Thanks for posting this video, the OXR color settings are great
Yes if it gives you that much performance yes turn it on. Thanks for posting your results and specs
Appreciate this channel as a phenomenal resource! Great presentation and information covering many devices and scenarios!

Would love to see a video on the MFS2020 Map Enhancement app and your thoughts on the High LOD Google Earth Pro satellite imagery streaming as it relates to VR.
Thanks for the great videos. I'm using a Quest 2 with an AMD GPU. Which sections of this tutorial don't apply for me?
Thanks for the comment . I would say the pimax, wmr everything else should apply . I also have tips throughout for quest users .
Thanks a lot for a very informative video that helped me to set up my Oculus Quest 2

I’m working with the OpenXR Toolkit but I don’t see an option for the Fixed Foreated Rendering mode under the Performance Tab?
Go.to the menu tab and make sure advanced settings are on .
@@2020fsers yes. I did do that but still don’t have it. I think it has something to do with my pc but i don’t think my pc is that bad.
24 fps sound like you have on some sort of frame cap or you have on motion smoothing . Turn that off
Great Video as always. Just a quick as, I have a Varjo Aero VR headset. Would your settings work nicely with that headset?
They should my varjo isn't here yet so I can't test but they should be fine . Just takennotnof what you change and only do 1 or 2 things at a time this way if you have any ill affects you will easily be able to know what caused it and switch it back.
Great videos - is windows mixed reality a better runtime system for vr when playing msfs, I have a Quest 2 and its set to Oculus openxr runtime, some guides say the native oculus runtime is much better to use?
I would keep the oculus runtime .
Thanks for your comment . I tried 60 again and my eyes can't do it lol . But yes the performance is way better on 60.
Yeah it's a strobing effect but my cable is never bent I put a big loop in it behind me so there is never a bend or tug on the cable .
Interesting some get the strobing and others don’t
Yeah maybe it's the gpu itself causing the issue different memory or something
Make me wonder if you could come up with an app that can make these settings automatically based on the system config.
One can probably make a batch file to run but even if someone has the same system the silicon is different in the parts so things can vary with performance . I have seen it plenty of times.
@2020 fs'ers agree, however, noobs like me will be willing to pay for such an app
I love your videos, you can't stop amazing me with your tips and the results. Thanks!!
Your welcome my friend 😊 thanks for the kind words .

Thanks
No I didn't go over any ott setting. I was just wondering if they caused the shimmer if you changed any of them.
@@2020fsers Have you got an ideal setting for ott?
No I don't I played with the quest pro for a bit but i returned it.
What is the VR headset you are using?
I have the hp reverb g2 and the varjo aero .
Ok thank you

anisotropic filtering set to 16x. Is this option valid also for PC, or just for VR? thank you for yoyr help
Thanks for the comment this is for both pc and vr
I remain also on DLSS and CAS with my PC. I7 12900 and 3080ti. But thank you for the video 😁 👍
Thanks for your comment .
On on the bottom of the wmr panel there is a play button press it.

Thanks, great video as always. I bought my first VR headset a couple of days ago and I'm following your tutorial here to get started. When I go in Mixed Reality Portal it asks that I connect the VR headset, the thing is it is already connected but not detected. I unplugged it and reconnected it again same result. You don't need the mixed reality portal that is only for mixed reality headsets like the hp reverb you have a steam headset and only need steam .

Awsome... digging in to this :) - Again thank you :)

Yeah try and uninstall and reinstall again that may reset some things .
Does the OpenXR only work if you bought MSFS from steam? When I opened the OpenXR MSFS doesn't pop up for me.
I am using the store version. Can you open the openxr menu in msfs in vr?
@@2020fsers Yes, it popped up now. Thanks!
Ok good deal 👌
As I use a buttkicker I have shaking reduction at 80% otherwise my seat vibrations are visible in my Reverb g2.
Oh yes that's another good reason to use the shaking reduction.
I'm working my way through your entire video right now. I'm on Nvidia control panel and my antialising mode does Not have application controlled, just 2,4,8x. what choice to use? ty
Choose the highest available. Also make sure you are on 531.29 driver
@@2020fsers yes I am using that driver I saw the asobo warning on another site. Also I am using a Reverb G2 and have an i7 with a RTX 3070 card. Do you think it is necessary or useful for me to use the X are tools companion? I really do not intend to change my field of you and that seems to be the biggest thing on there. I left the color on the user config set to 1. Probably would like a bit more contrast to my liking, but my thinking is how much can I really expect from my computer setup? Thank you so much for all of your help it is appreciated
Yes I would definitely use the openxr toolkit. It does way more than fov . The ffr is the main thing and also scaling very useful .
@@2020fsers I loaded it but all I could get was the splash screen. Could not get the menu screen no matter what I tried. You said menu page showed up on wmr mirror, but I dont even have mirror available.
Ok so after you installed it and loaded into the sim hit crtl f2 and you don't get any menu pop up in vr?
The last update toolkit the reprojection is perfect, but the shaking head is worst and dont exist the reduction anymore 😢
I don't use the shake reduction anymore it seemed to have issues for me
What is the minimum power supply for 3060,3080,3090 while flying in VR? Just curious if my Corsair 550W is doing enough 😅
550 not enough for a 3080 or 3090 maybe for a 3060. 3080 I would use a 750 minimum and a 3090 a 1000 would be a good option . I use a 1000 on my 3080ti.
@@2020fsers Great! Just ordered a 750W. Will be good for my 3060
Yep that will do plenty for you . Also make sure it's at least gold rated .

Image scaling is only used in pc monitor mode and does not affect vr so I wouldn't turn it on.
Great Video you nailed it!
Thanks Frank 😊 glad you enjoyed it
I've tried OpenXR in the past and watched several videos about making this playable in VR, but it looks like the GTX 1080 is no longer the powerhouse it used to be. 😄
Thanks for the comment I hope this can help you get it to be playable .
In your traffic menu turn down all the airport fauna ferries and global traffic to 0 and see if that helps
Excellent video! THANKS!!!!!
You are very welcome Gerard thanks for the comment
What are your thoughts on caching configurations in the data tab?
I keep the cache on and I normally keep it right around 10..
Are u making a no VR also? Thanks
Yes I have already done that here ya go
ruclips.net/video/bnvzpbMnKng/видео.html
I think it would be good to show an evaluate your CPU and GPU frametimes / load in the videos. There is no way that reducing the FOV (or pixels rendered) that much had 0 impact on performance. Rather I think you were being limited by something else. Reducing FOV effectively is reducing the headset resolution which we all know is probably the biggest impact on performance.
This configuration is ok also for Reverb G2?
Yes that's what i use .
I cannot get the OpenXR toolkit menu to show in VR on my desktop. (Control+F2) What am I doing wrong? No tutorial came up.
You need to be running an openxr application like msfs .
Also make sure you check the box of the application in the openxr companion app.

So what GPU do you use in this video?
I have a 3080ti
@@2020fsers I got a 3080, you think I will be able to put out a decent experience in VR with that one? So far it's been terrible
What headset do you have . A 3080 should be playable in vr
@@2020fsers I tried the G2 Reverb Professional Edition but I had a terrible experience with VR. I might think my expecations were to high for my GPU but at the time, it was only the 3090 that was a better choice. I had a lot of tearing and stutter when flying.
Oh wow I have no experience with the pro model but I had none of those issues on the regular g2. Do you have a headset now that you are using?
Hi 👋, I've seen a video for you fixing the loading time to start the mission, please guide me to it , i have no clue what happened to the game after I press on fly it takes 20 minutes to load it
If it gets stuck I disconnect from the internet then reconnect when it loads in .
@2020 fs'ers I figured out ,I purchased an airplane by mistake then I asked for a refund, the airplane was still in my system which made all the loading issue , I had to delete it manually now everything back to normal
Oh ok ... glad you got it sorted .

I think the old version of openxr is better, after I updated to the latest I felt my fs20 with stutters.
You should be able to download a previous version I think
Did you get more FPS with fixed foveated rendering ?
Yes I should have posted that but I get 3 to 4 fps using ffr.
Antialiasing - setting in a nvidia control panel I only show 2x, 4x, or 8x. Which is best?
Should be set on application controlled

Do you have a video on what to do if you get a message from Msfs your graphics device has encounter a problem will exit maybe due to over locking ,overheating or a driver fault. I checked data was 26 setting so don’t think this is a problem. Is a higher end Pc. It happens all the time even at beginning launching msfs
Do you have any overclocks in your pc .. cpu gpu ram?
Ron I’m pretty sure have clocked your GPU MFS is very sensitive use MSI afterburner and use the Scanner to do the clock for you it’s safe pushed the card a touch, but yea sounds like you have pushed the GPU too much
35 FPS is really low Frame Rate for VR. Is recommended 90 or better. Which configuration do you need to have at least 45 frame persecond per eye??
it depends on the headset if using an oculus quest then you may get away with setting tweaks . if using a hp reverb or varjo or pimax you need a 4090 card to achieve the frame rate you are looking for not to mention an i9 processor . I also assume you want that frame rate on the ground at the airport not at 40000 feet .
@@2020fsers what is the difference being at 40.000 feet? this is a problem of perception and smoothness in your visual input. At 40.000 feet you still see the interior of the cockpit , horizon etc.
At 40000 feet your gpu doesn't have much to render so your frames will be much higher . On the ground there is lots to render so frames go down .
@@2020fsers Well it depend of the vertex cost versus the pixel cost of your GPU. It not that easy beliveme :D

Ok so an easy thing you can do is in the companion app for the toolkit tick the disable box and start the sim and try without the toolkit to get a baseline
i wish i had 52 minutes
