      Yukine Sekki TBH for beans on toast it does need to be brown all over so you get the contrasting texture between the crunchy bread and the soft beans. Otherwise you end up with, as the woman at 0:41 said, the bread and the beans being the same consistency/texture.

      @Joe Casson those beans have not been exposed to cooking heat since before they were canned. Look at them, it's obvious

    • @ianhamilton_
      @ianhamilton_ 5 лет назад +44

      @Joe Casson The bread is white, therefore not toasted, at least not to any reasonable degree. It should be toasted enough to be able to withstand soggy beans lying on top.
      When beans are cooked they release starch into the sauce, making the sauce creamy. These have not been cooked to any reasonable degree, the beans are too white and the sauce is too red. There should also be a ton of butter.

    • @shanessinging
      @shanessinging 9 лет назад +68

      I'm sorry but I'm English, and for as long as I've known there has been a system of preparing particular foods. The meaning of 'toasted' doesn't allude me as much Buzzfeed's misinformation and misrepresentation of beans on toast. When us Brits say 'toasted' we mean toast it for a good 3-4mins till its all mostly golden and then coat it in butter. The next bit is crucial, you can't just slap some cold beans on top and you're done, you have to heat it up in a pan till it's piping hot (sometimes we add salt and pepper and even onions but that's optional). After pouring the beans on top of the FULLY toasted and buttered bread, you grate some mature cheddar on top. You won't be so butthurt if you tried it for yourself because it's delicious.

    • @lilbuttonpooh
      @lilbuttonpooh 9 лет назад +12

      Shane Khan This is what I grew up having for breakfast on weekends or easy dinner after work. Lightly golden toast for sure, I like my butter not too melted, hot beans, salt and pepper, and cheese slightly melted.

    Why isnt the bread toasted till crisp and buttered? Then you should heat the beans, why wouldnt you? Also there should be so many beans that you cant eat it with your hands, knives and forks are the only way, and it should be piping hot. Some ppl even like so much baked beans that their toast goes soggy! It would be like saying British people try twinkies and giving them krispy kreme doughnuts, it doesnt work!!! A sloppy Joe is basically ground beef (or pork) mixed with sauce. The ratio of sauce to meat is 2:1. This is the "joe". You pile it up on your bun. Due to the overabundance of sauce, the "Joe" will spill out of your bread, so eating will be a bit of a mess. Hence the name sloppy Joe.

    It helps if the toast is actually toasted. Also grate some cheese on that badboy and add a bit of HP sauce. You will never look back. And go wholemeal or go home.

  • @ChloeGilbert4

    Step 1: Toast the bread (kinda important step you missed there...)
    Step 2: Butter the bread and/or add cheese
    Step 3: Sprinkle the beans with salt
    Now you have beans on toast.

      You wouldn't believe what I have to go through, to get the right Heinz beans here in the USA! It's that, or you have to make a faux-Heinz recipe from scratch. Otherwise, you're stuck with the US-type canned beans, all of which are horribly over-sweetened and gooey in the wrong kind of way. Griddle the bread, (that means fry it a bit, people) with butter and hot beans and your topping of choice. Lovely for a nice vegetarian meal if that's your bag; add sliced tomato (also nice) or if you wish, sausage, bacon slices, fried egg...whatever floats your boat. I like it all by itself with some sliced tomato, myself.

    As an American I've found that I like beans on toast, but it really should be done a certain way for the flavors and textures to actually work together. White bread, toasted a bit heavily until the edges are really close to turning black. It's gotta be toasted heavily to hold up to the sauce. For some reason pork and beans just doesn't work... go with vegetarian. British style heinz if you can find it, but this isn't the kind of food one really goes shopping for. It's more of a run what ya brung kind of dish.
    The girl was on the right track when she said she'd add guacamole, but not for the reason she thinks. The whole shebang needs some fat to tie everything together and elevate it from convenience food to comfort food. That fat really should come from butter. Spreading it on the toast was my first inclination, but I've had better luck mixing it into the beans... it seems you don't need as much butter, yet somehow it feels more decadent. I've tried adding cheese and Worcester sauce, and they do add something, but that feels more like an optional component to me. A little pepper brightens everything up, and I personally like the pep that a little hot sauce adds.
    But the absolute most important aspect to enjoying beans on toast has very little to do with the recipe or ingredients. The perfect combination of chilly, overcast and somewhere between misting and drizzling really highlights this dish. Snow or a real downpour where you can hear the rhythmic beat of the raindrops against your roof and windows would lend itself better to a more serious comfort food. Sunshine... that's just not going to work. I'd recommend cottage cheese, graham crackers and pineapple. Or maybe a really ripe tomato, cottage cheese and fresh basil for blues skies. For beans on toast... the weather should be just a bit miserable, but not quite harsh. The kind of weather I think most Americans would associate with something like grilled cheese and tomato soup. Which, come to think of it, really isn't all that different from beans on toast...

      +mychemicalinjustice We love baked beans as a whole. They are almost considered a staple food here. But beans on toast isn't a thing here. Kind of like how peanut butter and jelly sounds very strange to Irish people, but its one of our most consumed sandwiches. Buzzfeed has a tendency to try an idea, without doing it the right way. Like when they have candy tasting for other countries, they always seem to pick some very strange candies that are not universally loved by whatever country they come from. As you can see, not even a little bit was done properly. The toast wasn't toasted, the beans were cold, and it was eaten with their hands instead of a knife and fork. :P As far as if we're okay over here...no. No, we need a little bit of culture. lol
