Nice video. I installed the A&A supercharger kit on my 2002 C5 Convertible way back in 2008. I bought the car new and still have it. Also changed the valve springs from the single coil to double coils. Stock factory headers and Corsa cat back exhaust. Had it tuned by SLP and I'm making 504 HP at the rear wheels. I also am running the short radiator. Best bang for the buck. Over 500 HP and 28 mpg at 75 mph. I also did the install by myself. Great support from A&A whenever I had questions during the install.

Since the supercharged LS has a ton of torque and horsepower up high-about as much as you could want for the street t in my humble opinion, I personally really don't want to lose any torque down low where there's minimal boost. Keep in mind, asentrifugal supercharged engine has a few pounds of boost at 3000 RPM, more at 4500, and the most at 5,500 to 6500 RPM. This was a pure drag race car only, then absolutely I would use a performance cam. Another thing to keep in mind is that this has the stock bottom end, right now I think I'm at about the limit where you push the Pistons past their capability and they may fail. So I probably wouldn't go any higher without forged Pistons and properly sized ring gaps.

Picked up a used A&A supercharged z06 a couple years ago and never looked back. Coming from a ~420hp Charger R/T it's amazing how much of a difference there is. @@Toys4Life I made the order! Since it was Black Friday i just had to get the kit. So now i watched the video one more time before preparing the car for some mor POWA!! 🙂. Did you have to change your clutch?
@MrGrombil I didn't have to, it was working fine as long as I didn't go crazy. Especially when switching gears, I didn't want to overpower it and the stock one did fine. Where I ran into problems is naturally aspirated it ran out of power and I shifted about 5,900. With a supercharger I made the decision to switch gears at 6500 rpms and ended up getting the dreaded pedal stuck to the floor syndrome which is a very difficult issue to fully explain but I believe the pressure plate can't handle it. Therefore after about a year I changed to a monster twin disc and it's been fantastic since.
What a great video!! I’m looking at selling my Harley and getting back into the fast car game after 20 years looking for a light weight vette with no less than 400 hp so this video was perfect
Great Video. The C5 saved the Corvette in my opinion. I sold my BMW... (Bring Money With-you) years ago because of all the money to keep it running. The C5 is my favorite Vette, but I rather retire. My 2007 C8 manual transmission, is doing just fine!... Yes 2007 C8 is the Civic Gen 8! :)
I looked but couldn’t tell for sure if you have a rubber gasket on the flat part of the nose cone where the leading edge of the hood comes down when closed and sits flush with the nose of the car. The previous owner of my Z06 installed the gasket to seal the gap at the front of the hood to keep water from running through the gap during rain or car washing and soaking the air filter that sits down below it. (Unless you have a closed type filter) I found mine had been leaking by due to the self stick adhesive coming loose in the middle, showing a dirt trail down stream of it. I removed it and reattached with clear silicone. The gasket will also keep dirt out more readily. I tested it by laying a dry paper towel on the air filter, closing the hood and soaking the hood with a hose. All good!
I don't have a rubber seal there. below the hood you have the metal plate too - I think it would be unlikely to get much water onto the air filter assembly - but without sticking a go pro with a light under there an testing in a hard rain- who knows. When I cleaned and re-oiled the filter a month or two ago, I did not see any signs of water damage...
The easiest way to relieve plastic, when doing any modifications, is to plug in a soldering iron. When hot, draw a line in the part needing relief. Then either remove the part and used cutters and grinders or keep going over the line you originally drew with the iron untill you're through the plastic.
A V3 SI Vortec blower can be sent back to Vortec and have the compressor section upgraded to a TI and make literally up to like a thousand horsepower so that's something to think about if you want to update your blower later on. It's a better impeller made out of Billet aluminum
Great video, really. Your clear and accurate explanation of all the steps, make the whole mounting process look kind of easy. I'd love to do this mod to my C5, but unfortunately here in Italy is severely illegal 😫. Thanks for the video. Up the C5! 💪🇺🇲
First off I wish I could express myself as you do! And secondly When I read that super chargers are illegal in Italy (Europe?) It reminded me how some of us Americans take our countrys (receding) freedoms for granted. And lastly I am heartened to know"Toys 4 life"and the corvette are alive & well in the Home of the sportscar. Thanks (99 C-5 base coupe)
Great video! I just had my front main seal, timing cover gasket and harmonic balancer installed on my C5. One day soon I will be getting the A&A as well. Just have an annoying oil leak to solve. Only 2 seals left to replace, oil filter housing and upper oil pan. Haven't look under it in a while though.
Hey, glad to be contributing to fast c5s! I would love to do an ECS kit so that I fully understand the differences between the two. One thing for sure, I don't hear anybody complaining about either company.
@@Toys4Life I believe the difference is you get a new rad cradle which drops it down lower, the blow off valve connects straight to the intercooler and they put a 3.6 pulley with a restrictor plate in the filter. They have different size restrictor plates so you can add more boost without a pulley change. I believe the vortech and paxton head units are identical. You can't go wrong with either kit!!!! It was all your videos that made me do it lol 😆 I think I watched your install video like ten times. Then I realized I didn't want to mess with balancer, so I left it to the pro's. My installer also did a speed density tune! I don't know why but it works lol!
I used to do that but I am not convinced it is necessary as my engine is in good working order, bearing tolerances must be within spec because I have decent oil pressure under all engine operating conditions. Is there another reason I am not thinking of to upgrade my oil pump? I am actually concerned about the oil pick up tube O-ring as I hear they like to start sucking air - and I don't think my C5s oil pan has ever been off!
@@Toys4Life wear and tear item that is a pita to access, plus a better flow to bearings was my rationale. I have heard about the oring failing as well… I have an 01 Z06 that had to get a new batwing after a failed tow from a blown tire…double checked the pickup.

I actually purchased a C6 after the Vipers. *As I got older, I became less of an Adrenaline Junkie (long story) ... Gotta say, the Looks of the C5 was a personal favorite though. My first was one of the very first '98's released in the late Summer of '97. The long anticipation combined with the press releases sold me! I placed my order a year prior... Driving her off the lot was an experience of a lifetime as I was a kid at the time. It was so damn refined (compared to my C4). Longer, Sleeker, and by FAR more refined... LOL This time around, I chose the 50th Anniversary Convertible 6 speed (it must have three pedals!). Burgundy with Xirallic Aluminum-Oxide Flakes, Tinted clear-coat and Shale interior trim. I am absolutely dying to do this.. just waiting for the money thing to work out. Install doesn’t bother me. Tuning I’m a little rusty but I’ll get it. My wot tuning is fine, drivability stuff takes experience.
And I did heads (cleaned and valve job, new springs) and cam on mine already and honestly out of that whole project, the most miserable pita part of the whole project was dealing with the ps rack and pump. Absolutely awful.
You always make such great videos! So informative. I have an ls3 c6 and I know it’s very similar. You think I still would need to upgrade the valve springs? Thanks very much for the videos you make.
I would ask A&A Corvette that question too. If you're not increasing your shift RPM then you can probably make it work but if your valve springs have more than 50,000 miles on them I would do a minor upgrade to something with a little bit more spring pressure. If you stay stock, be on the lookout for valve float.
Hey, appreciate the comment! This video is pretty long so I had to break things up. This might be what your looking for? ruclips.net/video/KpgZmo-dHuQ/видео.html
I’m putting in ls6 springs with a manual transmission dose the tune or anything change making 6500 redline. Is they the safe sweet spot I have brain cancer so I can’t do it myself Josh at a&a put me together tith a shop in sandy ut just hoping that everything goes good so I can enjoy it. Love your videos they are what inspired me to do this. Thank You
Have you tried booth the pulley that’s close to 8 pounds or the other one that’s close to 10 pounds did you notice a big difference? Is it worthwhile start the 10 over the eight to start
If you already do your own tuning, they will give you a base tune to start with to get you close. If not, then you will need to find a reputable tuner in your area who's familiar with supercharged c5s.
Lowing the engine cradle obviously drops the engine the same amount. I did not see in the video where you retightened those nuts. Could that be why you needed to trim the shroud and rad fins? I have an 03 anniversary model and considering putting a blower on it. I took careful notes of your video so I would have step by step directions handy should I go forward with the install.
Apologize if I didn't show it, I guarantee you once the steering rack is back in place, I torqued engine cradle bolts back down and it's fully seated against the frame. Trimming the top of the radiator and shroud is because it's tight between the radiator and the bottom side of the hood and you just have to make a little more room for the new air cleaner assembly.
I just got a 2000 c5 with 200k miles , the car runs beautifully and powerful . I want to either super charge it or pro charge it but I’m scared because of the high miles . Do you think high miles is a issue or should I say fook it and if it blows up I’ll just put a z06 engine
A few things. This is a tough question. First, procharger is a brand of supercharger as is vortec. Second you just can't buy a new ZO6 motor anymore. If it was my car, I would probably do a compression check and mechanical gauge oil pressure check. If everything tests out okay, I might consider putting in new bearings and letting her buck. Maybe other readers will chime in, good luck in your decisions!!
Damn, I have a big ass aftermarket radiator. I am thinking it is gonna screw me 😆 I already have the supercharger so maybe I'll wind up changing radiators again...
The company that a&a put me together with. I asked now about being able to take it and run it in the Texas mile, and they're willing to guarantee that it will do it, so I'll let you know.
I’d dropped it off this morning in Grantsville Utah with JDP motorsports it’s who Josh suggested from A&A I specifically said to him, I hear it’s not a good idea to run the Texas mile with the supercharger. He said he would guarantee it would do it. Now weather or not I want to risk it. When I pick it up next week. I’m going to ask him again when I pick it up. If you get a chance, use Google Earth and look up the shop. It’s like a kid in a candy store. They have a road course right there.
Do you think adding the super charger to a Z06 would end up with higher horse power because the Z06 has 55 more hp to begin with, or would that difference get diminished in some way?
Bone stock motor ahead of the supercharger addition. I can't recall how much the supercharger kit cost then It was on sale a few hundred dollars off. At the same time I did LS6 valve springs were just like 150 bucks more. Of course I already had HT tuners and I started doing the tuning myself with the help of a base tune supplied by A&A.
How much h.p. does the c5 zo6 get from supercharging? Im at 405 stock...1 other thing..my car only has 5000 miles on it...should i drive it more before supercharger?
Great video. I have a 2002 C5 Corvette. I relate with your comments regarding at the time, this vette was fast but today in 2023, many cars can rival the vette's acceleration. May I ask how much was this upgrade? I am interested and think I might want to get a super charger installed on my corvette. What is your fuel economy with the upgrade? I can get 33 mph at 75 mph driving on flat good surface roads. My average fuel economy can run 28 mpg if I run cruse control at 65 mph.
The kit installed with a tune is somewhere around 8 grand. But for mid to upper 500 rear wheel horsepower, it's actually a good deal in my opinion. Cruising down the freeway at 70, you might lose 1/3 of a mile per gallon.
You could - but I find it has plenty of top end without moving peak torque even higher with a cam. That would shift some power from down low and move it up top - not really what I want.
Does the rack have to be moved if the balancer has already been replaced and pinned? Mine was just replaced with a Summit SFI unit and pinned to the crank.
@@Toys4Life I answered my own question watching the rest of the video. I don't need to take it off, I was just wondering when I typed the question if the rack removal was necessary for any other step other than the balancer removal. Watching the rest showed me it is not. My stock unit was wobbling slightly, I had it replaced along with the tensioners, idlers, belts, seal and motor mounts about a month ago. I am trying to decide what to do first. I want a blower however at 113,000 I think the engine should be rebuilt before boosting it. Now the question is which way do I go? If I rebuild it I might as well stroke it to 383, why not? Then do I need a supercharger? Or do I just build the 383 for boost when I eventually cave and through the whole pile of money at it..
I did a monster twin disc a year or two later. Not because it wouldn't hold, as long as I didn't try to power shift it it did hold fine. Before the supercharger I shifted it 5900 and everything was great. With the supercharger when I'm really getting on it I shift at 6450 and the pressure plate doesn't like that RPM. This is not an uncommon problem with the stock pressure plate on the C5. Shifting at 6400, the pedal would start sticking to the floor once I went into second and third. Problem solved with monster aftermarket.
One correction, I did trap 125 several times in the quarter with the stock clutch. With the new clutch and upping the ethanol content of the fuel & some tuning changes I made more power to where I'm at now and trap 130mph.
Mainly because I stumbled upon A&A first, I read so many different threads about A&A and heard nothing but great things. Not just good things but great things. So once I got to the point where I was ready to buy something I called and spoke to them. They actually picked up the phone and answered all of my questions. So I went with them. I had a couple of questions during installation which they promptly answered. I don't have any direct experience with ECS but I hear very good things about them as well.
I have heard great things about ECS. They're about 2 hours from me. Figured I would just drop the car off there. I emailed them some questions and they responded and asked me a few questions. I answered and got no reply. I waited a bit giving them the benefit of the doubt, I know they're a busy shop. I actually sent another email after 2 weeks and told them they lost a customer. They did reply and apologized and wished me luck finding a good performance shop. If you can't answer emails before you get my money what's it going to be like once you have my money?
@@toddb3394 Owned and ran an ECS Novi 1500 kit on my C6Z. You dodged a bullet. Now everything on my car is A&A. If you want to buy my head unit feel free, but the intercooler is a boat anchor. My IAT’s where insanely high due to a nonsensical intercooler placement. They also couldn’t get me parts. Andy at A&A is nicer to me than I deserve. He will even tell you when his parts won’t work the best (1000+ wheel) and point you in the right direction.
That is a good question. If you're uncomfortable with it, pull the motor apart and re-gap your rings. Not having been said keep your pulls to a third of a mile or less and 99.9% of the people never have a problem with ringing gaps closing. Plenty of guys say they go a whole mile or half mile, but I certainly wouldn't that wide open throttle without making sure the gaps are proper for that amount of heat.

Yes most modern cars do have about the same HP but the Base C5 is a lot lighter with crazy Torque.
Lol it's 2023?!? Damn that's a good supercharger, you TIME TRAVELED! Hahaha.
Another fun video. Thanks man.
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Ha - at least your C8 is a manual!! Cheers!
Sounds Awesome FOR C5s
Great content. Very detailed. Subscribed.
Now I’m waiting for another channel where you read children’s books. Your voice is comforting.
Lol... Thanks!
@@Toys4Life Great!👍
Excellent video like always... now if I could only convince Santa to give and install this I'd believe
Maybe next year?
Very nice job on the A&A install
Thanks 👍
The easiest way to relieve plastic, when doing any modifications, is to plug in a soldering iron. When hot, draw a line in the part needing relief. Then either remove the part and used cutters and grinders or keep going over the line you originally drew with the iron untill you're through the plastic.
Interesting, thank you!
Love the video! Fun to watch...made doing this seem less intimidating. Appreciate the tip to lock out the steering wheel.
Thanks for commenting 😀
A V3 SI Vortec blower can be sent back to Vortec and have the compressor section upgraded to a TI and make literally up to like a thousand horsepower so that's something to think about if you want to update your blower later on. It's a better impeller made out of Billet aluminum
Doesn't A&A have a trade-up policy?
Is the what the Paxton novi 1500 cones with? I know it’s made at the same place as the vortec units
Getting better and better all the time💖
Thank you! This was an excellent reality check for doing a A&A install.
Great video, really. Your clear and accurate explanation of all the steps, make the whole mounting process look kind of easy. I'd love to do this mod to my C5, but unfortunately here in Italy is severely illegal 😫. Thanks for the video. Up the C5! 💪🇺🇲
Appreciate that, sir!
If you wait too long you'll be upset with yourself for doing so.. lol. The upper oil pan gaskets not much fun to do....
Lol ,it's all your fault I supercharged my c5 z06! I did the ecs kit , closer to home in canada. And love it!!!!!!
Nice job …. The only difference I would have done would be to upgrade the oil pump to a high flow since you are already there.

Loved your attention to details! just picked up an '03 C5 6 speed with 10K original miles. I had gone to Viper after my C2, C3, C4 and C5... Now I'm back to my Favorite C5... Where are you located?
What about the C5 stands out to you above all the others? I'm in the Midwest - how about you?
@@Toys4Life / Hello, and thanks for the reply. I'm on the East Coast. The Jersey Shore... I love your Channel and your VERY well-informed (and honest approach) is so refreshing. Plus, your attention to details sold me! You and I are definitely cut from a similar cloth!
There was a tremendous demand at the time (similar to the C8's initial release). It was a great time brother! The good ole days! LOL
This time around, I chose the 50th Anniversary Convertible 6 speed (it must have three pedals!). Burgundy with Xirallic Aluminum-Oxide Flakes, Tinted clear-coat and Shale interior trim. That with Anniversary Badges and cockpit Embroidery sold me! Cosmetically, it was always a favorite of mine. *So, when a one owner 10K Collector Owned specimen came up, this time I just couldn't pass it up! :)
Hey, I don't typically drop messages on RUclips, so not sure how to make direct contact? *If you're available as a Consultant, I'd be interested in speaking? How do I get a private message off to you?
Great Video!!
Could I do the same thing with my 2002 CETA?
I don't know nothing about Mechanic but i really love cars

As always, great video! You really put out great C5 content.

Would have been nice to hear your thoughts on the power of the supercharger and how it felt while driving.

Very true!
Another great video very well done. / easily understood by all grades of mechanics. Thanks
Appreciate that, thank you!
so if i have a 04 zo6 ill just need a procharger and tune and im good to go?
I agree!
Thank You
Yes - the tune does change with the SC to extend the RPMs up to 6500. Good luck!
Have you tried booth the pulley that’s close to 8 pounds or the other one that’s close to 10 pounds did you notice a big difference? Is it worthwhile start the 10 over the eight to start
You should be able to run low 11 high 10s with good traction .
They should have made another fan shroud that would place the fans in a different area and the cutout made.
The fans are pretty big, there's not really much room to move them.
nice video. "get your bearings" no pun intened right? LOL
Awesome video and job! Noob question….does the kit come with a tune/have to be tuned after installation? How does that work…
If you already do your own tuning, they will give you a base tune to start with to get you close.
@Toys4Life C5 can you post model#'s to your boost guage & aero force guage. Looked for your video on them but didn't see it. Thanks
Here you go!

Was that a rolling 1st gear start?
The train wreck is chilling, a nightmare to all drivers. The gates were up and no lights were flashing! When was that?

Wow great work
did the kit come with a hand held tuner with a tune ready to load into the car or did you have to tune yourself/ take it to a tuner?
The latter.
Damn, I have a big ass aftermarket radiator. I am thinking it is gonna screw me 😆 I already have the supercharger so maybe I'll wind up changing radiators again...
If you already have a two core aftermarket, what would you change to?
The company that a&a put me together with. I asked now about being able to take it and run it in the Texas mile, and they're willing to guarantee that it will do it, so I'll let you know.
That's pretty bold, I hope they're right!
They have a road course right there.
how much once all was completed?
Do you think adding the super charger to a Z06 would end up with higher horse power because the Z06 has 55 more hp to begin with, or would that difference get diminished in some way?
I'm not sure, it has higher compression which means you might have to run lower boost all things being equal?
@@Toys4Life Ya, that’s what I was thinking. It doesn’t matter, my wife would never agree to spending the money to do it anyway. 😫😂
I’m looking to get a c5 or c6 corvette, but I don’t want to pay more than 30k, should I get a zo6 or should I stick to the regular vette?
Z06 is going to cost more. Unless you really want the z06 look or the improved handling - go with the regular IMO.
What was your total cost. Did you have any motor work upgrades prier the super charger.
It depends on what size belt you use and what kit you buy. Conservatively you could Go from 405 crank horsepower to 600.
nice video, thanks!
Maybe a dumb question but where do you plumb the boost gauge in at?
I tied mine into the brake booster line - already has a splice for the boost bypass valve and boost a pump.
When you supercharge your Corvette does it have strains on the other parts of the motor. And. Parts. Of. Your. Corvette
Of course, anytime you make more power it puts more stress on everything.
Can’t you do cams, heads, and supercharger?
You could - but I find it has plenty of top end without moving peak torque even higher with a cam. That would shift some power from down low and move it up top - not really what I want.
Does the rack have to be moved if the balancer has already been replaced and pinned? Mine was just replaced with a Summit SFI unit and pinned to the crank.
I'm confused, did your summit SFI unit fail? Why do you need to take it off?
How much would this cost parts an labor? ..I'm mechanical inclined but paralyzed in my right arm.
8-9k roughly.
Im assuming you had to do a clutch upgrade with the added power ?
I did a monster twin disc a year or two later. Not because it wouldn't hold, as long as I didn't try to power shift it it did hold fine. Before the supercharger I shifted it 5900 and everything was great. With the supercharger when I'm really getting on it I shift at 6450 and the pressure plate doesn't like that RPM. This is not an uncommon problem with the stock pressure plate on the C5. Shifting at 6400, the pedal would start sticking to the floor once I went into second and third. Problem solved with monster aftermarket.
@Toys4Life wow thats surprising that at 5900 rpm on stock clutch it still held with all that extra power. Love the channel btw.
One correction, I did trap 125 several times in the quarter with the stock clutch. With the new clutch and upping the ethanol content of the fuel & some tuning changes I made more power to where I'm at now and trap 130mph.
How did you decide to go with A&A I am torn between them and the ECS (east coast supercharger) kit
Thanks for chiming in, your first hand experience is appreciated 👍
Would it fair to say this can be done on a 2004 CTS-V seeing as they share the exact same internals?
Engine Bay is different. I am not sure what kits are offered for the CTS-V - worth looking into!
Awesome Vette!!!
Not my C5 - but I think so too!
What about ring gap?
That is a good question. If you're uncomfortable with it, pull the motor apart and re-gap your rings. Not having been said keep your pulls to a third of a mile or less and 99.9% of the people never have a problem with ringing gaps closing. Plenty of guys say they go a whole mile or half mile, but I certainly wouldn't that wide open throttle without making sure the gaps are proper for that amount of heat.
What is the cost of the supercharger kit
A&A Corvette.com I think it is currently $5900 or so.
I wonder if this is worth it on an automatic c5 ?
I would think so, but I would keep it closer to 500 wheel horsepower until I got the transmission beefed up.
Is that a supercharger or a turbo? Looks like a turbo to me.
They do look similar, except superchargers like this that are centrifical are driven by a belt versus turbos which are driven by exhaust.
@@Toys4Life thanks for clearing that up for me. I’m not much of a GM guy, but have been taking great interest in the C5 Corvettes. I think they are the best looking model and especially for the price. I might pick one up soon.

Ahead of the passenger side front tire down low.
How much is the full kit cost?
Just under 6K I believe.

What size pully are you running??
3.6
@@Toys4Life what does that make boost wise. I just ordered the same kit so super curious
@@MorganLSX around 12 or 13 PSI in a stock LS1. Cam and headers would lower that number due to less restriction of flow.

5.9k for the kit, plus install and tune. $ per HP is good- your just buying a LOT of HP at once (:-)
@@Toys4Life oh ok Thanks for responding
