“This is not a car that punishes you for driving it” I’ve dogged the hell out of my ‘00 base model for the better part of 2 years and 37,000 miles and it’s still running strong. Minimal maintenance, now sitting at 126k miles. So glad I got this car
I really love the c5z. The interior is super comfortable to me first off. 2nd, I've only been beat on the street by a modified trackhawk and a newer m5. I've been even with an rs6, a lt1 ss, trx, modified evo 8, 5.0, scatpack, fbo type r, model s, m340i, new m3, etc.. and this is a car built in 2004 and purchased for 20k lol. On top of that, this car gets compliments almost daily on the street because no one sees these on the road anymore. I can count on my hand how many times I've seen a c5z driving around since I bought this car in 2020. Collectors item for sure and such a beast of a car.
For some reason, getting into the passenger seat is way more difficult than the driver seat. You literally have to fall into the passenger seat because there's no steering wheel to grab.
You are correct, my 99 S10 had that exact same radio for about 2 weeks after I bought it! Then it had a Clarion Pro Audio Cd deck! BTW people put easy miles on those Corvettes because at 70mph you could cruise AND get "economy car" fuel economy whilst doin it!
A cam and headers will change your opinion of LS power curve. I have a 224/228 and it pulls strong up top without giving up the grunt down low. Also has some chop at idle. Of course you can go even bigger with the duration and get even more power up top if you’re willing to sacrifice low end torque and idle quality.
I have the same cam in an LS2 C6 and while it only gained 30 whp peak, it didn't lose ANY power anywhere. Even right where I started the pull, at 2,500 rpm, it was up 10 hp over the stock cam. Nice chop at idle but doesn't buck. I can lug the engine at 1,100 rpm and its smooth as glass. In fact if I put the trans in gear and turn the a/c on it doesn't even chop anymore lol because of the loads.
I’m one of those baby boomers with a C5, but mines a black Z06 and I drive it like I stole it! And we have windy roads! Great fun! The base C5 does sound good, but more tame. I immediately recognized the sound when you got onto the Z06. It doesn’t take much throttle to get going in a big hurry! Very responsive. I have Continental Pro Contact Sport tires and they really have tenacious grip! Big improvement. Also on any of the LS engines, I solved the tick tick valve train noise by adding Amsoil Upper Cylinder lubricant to every tank of gas! It really did the trick. No more panic in my chest when driving away on a cold morning! Great review bud!
Unpopular opinion is right. IMO, my 01 6speed is the most fun when I drive up to and just a bit past redline and I honestly feel like the fun starts at 3k and I do genuinely sink into the seat more and more as I rev it higher. My exhaust definitely makes it more fun hearing that LS1 as the revs go up, especially with a convertible.
I have an '01 Convertible and agree 100%! The cool fall days are coming up and driving with the top down is going to be a visceral blast again very soon!

There are a few differences specific to the Corvette version of the 4L60 trans, but not much. Mostly the shift servo is larger so it does shift harder. Common upgrade to use the Vette parts in trucks and such so its less of a mushy mess. Had that done in my S10 when it blew up and it would bark the 1-2 shift but it was still not what I'd want in a sports car.
For me, I’d get the auto just as a cruising around (and sometimes going fast) on public roads. It’s not optimal for power mods or dynamic driving, but for a mild engine (stock except for, say, exhaust and a dyno tune/ecu flash) it’s easy to live with and friendly to drive, but the car is still faster than most things you’ll run into and still excellent to drive.

Are there faster cars? Sure. But 450hp is enough to have fun with and the 51/49 weight distribution and the fact you can pull 30+mpg on the highway its all good. 20 years old z still handles better than modern M2
you know chevy z aint messign arond with this subject
How can a 33k sub channel justify a car giveaway? Whats the catch?
You gotta do silicone dielectric grease on those seals, breathe a little life into them, plump them up.
Also you might have lost your license to drive Corvettes by calling it a Zed-06
Zed Aught Six
I wish the camera wasn't aimed at you. It would be so much better if we could see the dash and entirely out the windshield to actually be able to see what the driver or passenger can see. I hate that so many are doing this... It looks like they're making the video about themselves, rather than the car, which is the reason why we're here in the first place. IDK, it just bugs me.
Hate the shifters
nice cars
I really don't like all this witchta RUclipsrs corvette thing you guys are doing, sorry, i can't be the only one that thinks that
it seems buying a camera is a lot easier than becoming a knowledgeable corvette fan boy, and corvette's get clicks. I mean, that's why I'm here, because I have an interest in C5 corvettes, not to listen to some guy make consumer grade comments about his used cars.
Walk more to save your sissy back
cavalier with v8 power.... so disrespectful and doesn't make you knowledgeable nor cool.
Learn how to drive a manual transmission lol
This music is SO annoying.
Dude talks to much
Dude!
What in the heck are you talking about?!?
My stock LS 1 pulls RIGHT to 6 k no problem!!
It pulls harder after 4k RPM!!
🙄
Another miss guiding RUclipsr...
They do, but the Z06 continues pulling where the LS1 is done. All LS engines build power linearly. Even my LS2 felt nice and linear when stock.
Even with the base gearing in a manual it pulls way too hard u just didn’t mod it at all. Makes sense for someone who takes shit to the shop. amg gay btw those piece of shits done last at all.
