Once, I actually heard a theory that I found interesting about that.
(If you are an anime-only viewer, this won't have spoilers for the manga, but I'll be talking about Mikasa at the present time in the manga. You can read if you'd like, because I wouldn't necessarily say it spoils anything.)
Since Mikasa is growing tired of fighting and just longs for a peaceful future with her friends, after Eren's death and eventually Armin's, she might decide to use her natural talent in singing to "heal" all the soldiers mentally affected by war. Although she'd still have a pretty tragic and sad ending because of her friends dying (Eren, Armin, Annie, and some other people that I can't say due to spoiler reasons), she would still be able to live the rest of her life in peace. Personally, since Mikasa is my favorite character, I wouldn't mind this if it gives her a somewhat happy ending.
@@ei-on4eb Plus if the outside world does end up being saved, I can imagine Mikasa starting a new life in Hizuru to potentially become a royal of the Azumabito Family, and she can spread the word and pains of the things she went through, to try to help make the world a better place slowly.

Many people think that it wasnt hard for Eren say "Mikasa, i hate you" because Eren feel nothing for Mikasa aside of friendship. But now, we know that he was probably death inside when he said that

Edit: Yes I read the manga. Sad ending doesn't necessarily mean bad ending. She will live on her life remembering her love.
I don't know why ppl say she is one-dimensional after S1. She got moments like failing to kill R&B, saying she has only so much room in her heart for the number of ppl she can care about, accepting that Eren's destined to die and accepting it, trusting Eren and Armin to fight during S3 P2. Those moments are overlooked and while she isn't my fav AOT character she is an amazing character. Never understood the Mikasa hate tbh

People say Eren loving Mikasa comes out of nowhere. But that's because our attention has been directed towards Mikasa's feelings for Eren too much - that has failed us to truly see from Eren's POV. To me, Eren has always considered Mikasa as his lover - subconsciously.
In Asian culture, men tend to love differently. They rarely say "I love you" to express their love. Rather, they make promises - and sacrifices. There are three distinct promises that Eren made throughout the series:
1. He promised to kill every Titans.
2. He promised to wrap the scarf around Mikasa as much as she wants.
3. He promised to take everything back to bring back his "home".
All three of them were made in the presence of Mikasa, while two of them were made only for her. The reason why Mikasa always refers to him as her home is that during their first meeting, it was Eren who grabbed her hand and said "Go back to our home". Whenever Eren thought about his home, Mikasa is always depicted in that picture.
People arguing that Eren only regarded Mikasa as family, but if so, why he always rejected the idea of being treated as a brother or a son by Mikasa? Or why he seemed to be disappointed when Mikasa said he's her family.
In chapter 123, Eren gave Mikasa two choices "Was it because I saved you as a kid, or is it because I'm family?". Rereading the chapter, I realize Eren wants Mikasa to consider him as the "boy who saved her", thus explaining his rough attitude towards her overprotectiveness. And you know why, Asian men always want to be THE ONE who protects the women they love, not the opposite.
In Chater 50, the reason why Eren suddenly got the courage to fight back the Titan is that he realized how feminine Mikasa could be. Most of his memory shards are filled with Mikasa's feminine images.
In Eren's eyes, Mikasa's natural self is very feminine - and he fell in love with it. Just like how she first appeared when he met her. And to him, Mikasa's feminine charm is a place like home - it's free, peaceful and loving.
Isayama skillfully let Armin ask Eren in chapter 112 "Is it the freedom to hurt Mikasa?" as if he alluded to the real question "Is it the freedom to love Mikasa?" Perhaps, Mikasa is the freedom that Eren yearned for.

You can also tell when they show a flashback of all his memory fragments at some point (can’t remember the exact chapter) that out of all the memory fragments a picture of Mikasa is the largest. Indicating his strong emotional attachment to her.
Also when Zeke confronts Eren about the truth behind Mikasa’s loyalty, he refuses to entertain the idea. Why? Because if he thinks about her loving him, he wouldn’t be able to go through with the rumbling. He forced himself to be strong. That is also the reason he says those awful things to Mikasa about being a slave the last time they meet before the rumbling. His accusations weren’t so much to hurt her but to convince himself that there was no love there just the loyalty of a dog chasing its master. Even though deep down he knew that was a lie.

Haters: Isayama changed the original ending. The editors wanted to downplay the role of Historia and persuaded Isayama to sideline Historia. Eren was supposed to go back to Paradis, abandoned everyone, and reunited with his blonde wife.

"Mikasa is the first character I created for AOT. She is meant to be the centerpiece of AOT. The story starts with Eren/Mikasa and will end with Eren/ Mikasa" - Isayama Hajime, 2014.

After reading the manga, only Mikasa believed that Eren didn't change. The fact that she left the scarf and that girl (forgot her name) talked to Eren about Mikasa. Eren said to throw the scarf away I don't know why maybe because he found out that she left it? Well she came to find it tho. My heart hurts. He treasures Eren a lot. I just want them to be happy
Eren's been trying to split Armin and Mikasa from him because of what he has to do. It's unknown if it's to keep their souls 'pure' from his horrible actions or it's to protect them because he saw a future in which they died

My now ex-boyfriend introduced me to Attack on Titan back in middle school. Binged all of season 1 in about three days and it was my new favorite anime. My ex and I quickly became close, partly because we were in the same class and went to art every single day. I started to see him as Eren and he pretty much looked like him. I...began to develop feelings for him. In our last year of middle school, we grew even closer and I cheered for him, supported him, did everything I could do that he was happy, and always stood by his side and always wanted to be with him. He didn’t know my true feelings however. So once season 2 was confirmed, we were super hyped out about it. Then, the character songs were released and once I heard Mikasa’s song...it perfectly described how I felt about the boy. I always wanted to be with him and I was always happy if he was happy. I knew that I wouldn’t resist if we had to separate one day but we remained close until the end of the school year. High school rolled around and in the middle of October, I told him my feelings - to which I deeply regret. We grew farther apart with each passing month and became fearful of losing him. I wanted to keep him close and happy and did everything I could. In mid April, I did what I thought was best and to save at least our friendship. I broke up with him and asked if we could still be friends. Some time later, he stopped talking to me and the pain grew bigger and bigger in my heart. I cried every day and every night and I had moved too so there was no one to consolidate me. I was alone and all I could do was listen to this song and reminisce our friendship. It’s going to be almost three years since we broke up and I know I need to move on, I promised my best friend that I was over it but in reality, my heart still aches for him and this song...is probably the only thing I have left of him.

@@leviismyoppa967 I have a crazy theory. It's about Mikasa's unique combined bloodline. This is only my interpretation and I can be wrong, but I think and hope that it's somewhat correct.
This will be long, but I will try to connect all clues which Isayama left.
So first of all we have something really important, in early chapters of manga Isayama point out that Mikasa have headaches. First it was in chapter 2 when Eren's mom died, I think that's because this is the moment when "path" to Mikasa's "long dream" from chapter 138 begins by Eren's actions in the future (saving Berthold life, otherwise his death will create the paradox of Eren's existence and his future actions, in other words there will be a "butterfly effect", that also why we see a butterfly in Mikasa's Lost Girls OVA, it's a parallel to this effect). But important is a second headache which happened in chapter 5 after situation with a cart. What's important in this moment is that we have a girl, which saluted back to Mikasa after her help (this doesn't happened in the anime, girl only thanked her). And because of that Mikasa feels headache right away and asking herself why I remember it now (memory about parents, we will back to this later). So who this girl and why Mikasa have a headache? This is a yeagerist girl from chapter 109 (!!!) which Mikasa put behind bars. And what happend next? They are talked about Eren and girl saluted to Mikasa again and because of that Mikasa feel headache again and she saw "Tatakae!" moment! BUT WHY!? Where is a connection or a trigger of this headaches because of THIS particular girl? It is later in chapter 126 when Mikasa take back her scarf from that girl and she told Mikasa very important thing about conversation with Eren about her. Eren wanted this girl to THROW THIS SCARF AWAY (and this is not because he hate Mikasa, we know that this is MASSIVE bullshit). What it remind you? Yes, chapter 138 and Mikasa's "long dream" in which Eren says to her "THROW THE SCARF AWAY... And be free... Forget about me..." and then "dream" ends. But Mikasa deny to forget him and put her scarf on and says that Eren is in the mouth, because Eren sees her with a sword in the titan's mouth before dying (their minds connected by that "long dream" and Eren can't completely erase her "false" memory) and says "See you later" in her "dream", because she realizes that Eren will see her again as a child after the moment under the tree from the first chapter. That is why he is confused about her hair, his mind is not able at that moment to realize what is happening and Eren just cries. Likewise with Mikasa's dream. But HOW this all works?
So, what I'm trying to say with that? We have something like this:
Headaches through chapter 5 --> chapter 109 --> chapter 126 --> chapter 138 = chapter 5 --> chapter 138 = memories of the future (!!!) or it can be reversed like world map in AoT, 138 --> 5 (Mikasa's headache about parents). So like this we are back to chapter 5. And, unlike anime, what we have there? Mikasa have a conversation with her ASIAN mom about the mark under the bandages (!!!). So why this mark was established so early in the plot? Only to make Mikasa somekind of princess? No way. It's all because this mark is important for another thing (!!!) what takes us to chapter 107 about Hizuru, Azumabito and all this stuff 100 years ago BEFORE WALLS. But why this is so important? Why shogun was in good relationship with Fritz? I have an idea about it, which takes us to another chapters - 65 and 63!
So, chapter 63 has a conversation between Levi and Mikasa about Kenny's and their powers awakening (and this is has nothing to do with the Ackermans "hosts", this is just a lie invented by Eren). So what about their ability of "knowing what to do next", heightened reflexes and feelings? For example in chapter 113, Levi senses an attack from behind by his comrade in titan form. It's something like spider-sense, right? But HOW? Experiments with titans abilities (!!!) (we know this from Zeke's conv with Eren). But most important chapter in all of this is chapter 65, which called "Dreams and Curses" by the way (damn... that's brilliant, you are a madman Isayama). And what we have there? Kenny's grandpa said very important thing about several noble bloodline clans - "The MEMORIES of people from these MINORITY BLOODLINES were NOT affected by the KING" (!!!). While most of the bloodlines obeyed, who turned their back on Fritz? Right! Only TWO, the ASIAN clan and Ackermans. But why did the good relationship with the Hizuru shogun turn against Fritz? And why was it necessary to get rid of the Ackermans family guard? Because he can't CONTROL (ERASE) their memories. But WHY he can't?
Is it all starting to make sense? That's why Mikasa have headaches.
So, here a crazy part begins.
Which titans abilities most powerful and intersect with a story? It's "memories of the future" of the Attack titan and "memory manipulation" of the Founding titan! So, think about it like this, what if...
Ackermans = experiments with abilities of the Attack titan --> they "know what to do next" or have something like spider-sense;
Asians (or, more likely, only royal branch of them) = experiments with abilities of the Founding (!!!) titan --> ability to create memories or by another words "dreams" (!!!).
And this is where Mikasa becomes very important to the plot! Why? Because she is a combination of this "powers", she's an Ackerman and asian at the same time. This is HOW Isayama made her so special and crucial to the plot. So maybe this is how she know about this "dreams" by her Founding titan connection and have this headaches because of the Attack titan (this is also maybe additional thing to theme of forbidden love and why Ymir chose her and Eren - two close people with the right abilities). And in Mikasa's Lost Girls part it seems like she can change her "dream" on the fly by thinking about something, like in moment with dogs or a wish to be closer to Eren. What I mean is that no matter how hard she trying to escape from reality to this "dreams" she knows that Eren is gonna DIE and because of it even in "false memories" she can't save him. And also this means:
Eren (The Attack titan and the Founding titan) Ymir and her "paths", CURSE of Ymir, Mikasa's "long DREAM" (chapter 1 for Eren = chapter 318 for Mikasa) Mikasa (abilities of this titans) = title of chapter 65 "Dreams and Curses" (!!!).
Something among these lines.
