It really is. Their love for each other transcends time and space. Its the concept of paths. Especially Mikasa since she is the one whose love stops Eren from dying in all different timelines. But she finally decides to love him selflessly and let him feee from this hell of endless loops

The reason for time-loop existing is Mikasa's love for Eren and his need to fullfil his destiny of breaking the titan curse. Mikasa is the one that keeps reseting the timeloop cuz she can't accept Eren's death in each timelines (she acted selfishly both in her ova and chapter 138 dream part) but not this current timleline she decides to love him selflessly and let him be free of this hell of going through endless loop.Basically Eren's version of freedom is actually breaking out of timeloop/death/ending curse of Ymir. Thats why he is so obsessed with freedom Mikasa had that vision in chapter 138 of the previous timeline since she is so close to breaking the time loop. Eren has to be be killed by Mikasa through selfless love the person whom he cares the most about. Basically its the sacrifce both him and Mikasa have to pay in order to save the world. It also makes Mikasa's crazy over protectiveness make sense, her love for him and her subconsciously knowing how many times she has had to watch Eren die in previous timeloops only for her to jump in the next time loop with him in order to save him not realizing that Eren's death is inevitable and by loving him selfishly neither of them can be free from this time loop. It also makes Eren's cold attitude towards Mikasa in the current timeline make sense (Eren is always trying to push Mikasa away) He either subconsciously or fully knows (I believe he fully knows that after touching Historia's hand and knowing the future) that she is his weakness (a temptation for a peaceful life where he can be with her, forever stuck in a timeloop where he can never break free from it) and in order to succeed in breaking the time loop/curse of Ymir he has to push her away. They are forbidden lovers
Ik we are lead to believe that Eren or Ymir is the one controlling the time-loop but Isayama is deceiving us while hiding the truth in plain sight. He has said many times that Eren is a slave to the story. do u actually believe that attack titan Eren someone who could not make free choices because he had to follow his visions of the future the most free person in the manga? His rib titan form looks like as if he is caged while Isayama drew Falco flying behind Mikasa to represent wings of freedom showing her that she is one truly being free to alter the future and decide to end the time loop once and for all. ( also falco is another symbol of freedom as he is literally a bird lol the second simp and in love character besides Mikasa)
Eren's freedom is his selfless love for Mikasa and Mikasa's selfless love for Eren is her freedom

I personally believe that in the previous timeline (or I should say timeloop)
Eren didn't do paths/stuff.
Cuz Eren did paths stuff is what made his destiny unchangeable. (once he saw the futures as he touched Historia's hands it was all done for, his destiny was 100%set in the stone)
Think about it Grisha in chapter 121 had no problem taking the founding titan. He just didn't want to kill the children. In the previous time-loop He probably took the founding titan but didn't kill the children. Why is Eren interfering at that moment? cuz thats the moment that sets up Historia's arc. Thats the moment that led him touch Historia's hand. and thats the moment that made the current timeline be the only path for him possible (the only path for him to break free of timeloop/end curse of Ymir) (Isayama made the main character of his story a slave to idea of freedom while having that character know that he can't make free choices, cuz in the previous timeloop that Eren did freely make the choice of running away with Mikasa he was bound to repeat the time-loop) (so in an ironic way the only path for Eren to be truly free is this current timeline where he could not make free choices!!!)
Basically Isayama's answer to the question free will versus fate is that, (yes everything could have been otherwise, free will does exist. Our actions and decisions can influence or change the outcome of a given situation (which was basically the previous timeloop. Him and Mikasa selfishly ran away abandoning everyone, but that's not their destiny, their destiny is to be forbidden lovers. Eren's destiny is to be killed by the woman he loves and Mikasa's destiny is to kill her lover. No matter how much they try to run from this fact they can't change their destiny)
But even then fate is always playing a joke on Eren. Even if he believed that he had the freedom to make the choice to run away with Mikasa, even if he believed he was free in all those previous loops he just woke up in chapter 1 since he had not fulfilled his true destiny. which is that fate exists as well, although you are free to make ur decision the timeline will always reset till you achieve your destiny(basically this current timeline is Fate, it was bound to happen. The current timeline Eren already knows Mikasa's answer is going to be family, he already knows he is going to do the rumbling, and he already knows Ramzi is going to be killed by him, and he already knew Mikasa was going to kill him, thats why in chapter 112 he told her he hated her to make himself the ultimate devil just to make it easier for her. So that she would be able to actually end the time-loop. But what he didn't realize is that no matter how hard he tries Mikasa will always believe in Eren's humanity even if he himself doesn't believe in it any more, no matter how much he tries to abandon his humanity in order to accomplish his mission. That red scarf is the thread that ties him to his humanity. He is still.human. Mikasa is the only one who can free both Eren and herself, and it is ultimately up to Mikasa to make her own decision. Does she want to keep reapting the cycle or does she want to end it?
and personally I believe she did end the time loop at the end/ break the curse of Ymir.

2:37 as a manga reader, when i rewatch season 3, i realized that all bad things that eren did is the ONLY CHOICE he has to do or his friends will die. it feels like EREN NEEDS TO GO THROUGH TO THE DARKNESS to find a LIGHT for HIS FRIENDS AND HIS PEOPLE. But, what bout his light,future,strength and hope? THERES NONE. He gave all of it to his friends so they will be the last one standing and the last survivors so they can live in a happy life.
Maybe that is his freedom, making sure Paradis is not being attacked anymore and his people can live long and happy lives. I never had the impression that he was ever thinking about himself when doing what he did, as horrible as some choices were. They clearly were steps he had to take

And then he built relationship between Eren and Historia, teasing here and there, I dont ship Eren and Historia though, only Ymir and Historia. But I get why it is too subtle. Isayama built better friendship relationship than romance. It is just that we knew Mikasa in love with Eren, but hardly Eren with Mikasa. If he never love Mikasa back, it will be a better parallel between King Fritz and Ymir with Eren and Mikasa. And connected to how Eren Kruger said to love someone beyond the wall regardless if it's wife, child, friend or neighbour. Which is the reason that history repeats itself and why Paradis gone.
