The way Isayama made Mikasa such a tragic character. She lost her home, twice. She lost tons of her comrades, especially her best friend. The friendship between her, Eren, and Armin are slowly drifting apart, or should I say already apart. She just wanted for things to go back the way they were, return to their home, where they should be. Eren, the person who she loved the most, has now left her and pushed her away. She didn’t understand that it was for her sake, but she still wanted to be near him and take him home again. The dream that she had was so sad, things just didn’t go with the way she wanted for it to. I just imagined that while kissing Eren, she was still in a dream state of a different universe with him.
The scarf is the only thing that’s keeping Mikasa going, it’s what connects her and Eren. Her confusion and mixed emotions after she heard that Eren wanted for her to throw the scarf away, and Armin yelled at her for stop thinking about Eren for once. She was lost and didn’t knew what to do, making her think what would’ve happened if she given him a different answer (past back to Marley when Eren asked “what am I to you?”)
Mikasa is so strong emotionally and physically, despite the traumas that she has, she still have the strength to fight and move forward. And worse, she accepted to kill Eren, the man she love.
EDIT: I finally read chapt 139 and all I feel is pain. Both of them loved each other but couldn’t be together, Eren accepted his fate, but what he couldn’t accept is not living with Mikasa. While Mikasa was still beside him the rest of her remaining life :(((

Also u can watch Akatsuki no Requiem song's original video where there was a bird with a mask and one leg (probably older Eren) and another small ball of feathers(younger Eren). The bird was crying in front of graves. My theory is that he will win but he will regret his actions for the rest of his life as everyone will die tho he will achieve freedom.

came here after chapter 139...i'm on the verge of tears just writing this but for those that are mourning and in immense pain, i understand how you feel ;-; i've been keeping up with attack on titan since 2013 and now that its finally come to an end, i feel like i'm letting go a large piece of my childhood. to be quite honest, it doesn't feel real, as season 4 part 2 comes out in January and thats still something i'm looking forward to. i think it'll sink in once that starts coming out, but for now ill enjoy what i have left of one of the best, if not the best, anime and manga series i have ever seen.

This song is like Shinzou Wo Sasageyo, not only because it's made by Linked Horizon and sounds just like it in the background, but also because it represents Mikasa perfectly. While everyone is dedicating their hearts Mikasa is questioning why she did certain things, this is reflected in the manga as well, how Eren said she was a slave, though untrue, it made her think hard about why she was always following Eren without having a goal of her own. Truly amazing, I can feel the emotion behind the lyrics, I may not understand Japanese, but from what I can tell, she is sad and can do nothing but push forward. These character songs really stay true to their characters. I love it. Thank you for uploading this masterpiece!

both Eren and Mikasa deserved better. They were the ones who sacrificed they're very own happiness for the sake of their friends. Such a tragic end, I'm crying again.
So Mikasa and Eren met when they were 9 and Eren died when he was 19. That's 10 years. Mikasa then mourned him up til 3 years later. That makes 13 years overall. I guess after that point she moves on despite the pain while continuing to love Eren in her heart.
I forgot if it was 9 or 10 but I think your right. Another theory I had was if they met when they were 10 and she spent those 9 years with him as well the 4 years they got to spend with each other through the paths/memory shown in 138. He ended up dying of the titan curse showing that his 13 years were up. That would also amount to 13 but it’s just another take

The instrumentals and the voice had the same vibes with Gundam Seed and the subsequent Destiny series and some Sword Art Online influence, but when I translated the lyrics to English, daaaaamn this is Mikasa being sorrowful about Eren and this hits differently after reading Chapter 138! To think this song was written a few years before the latest chapter was released!
many song of Gundam Seed/Destiny and Sword Art Online's soundtrack were composed by Yuki Kajiura. And Revo from Linked Horizon is kinda acquaintance with her, so i get where you came from. (Heck, even some of Linked Horizon's singer is borrowed from Yuki Kajiura's singers lol)

When Mikasa decided to kill Eren, his Titan was fighting Armin's Titan and Mikasa knew, from their previous fight, that Armin was most probably going to be eaten or crushed. I think the real purpose behind that fighting scene was to prepare Mikasa to fight/kill Eren for Armin's or any other friend's sake.
Before that, Mikasa had a headache and a vision. At first, I thought Mikasa had used some power related to her blood to saw memories of the previous time loop, when she lived a peaceful life with Eren. Now, I think Eren showed that memories to her. The bird Eren was controlling when he saw Falco for the first time, in Ch. 91, resembles the one that appears in the cabin scene. Also, there's no time in the Paths, so they can travel through their memories, as much as Eren wants, as he did with Zeke. Eren can't erase Mikasa's memories, so he chose the moment she was close enough to launch an attack against his real body, and showed her what she needed to know before deciding to kill him.
Mikasa is not just remembering what happened, but actually experiencing again that memory, as Eren did with Zeke. Eren gives her the context of this reality, relating facts: the Marley War already happened, it is going to be an invasion, they decided to live together for four years in the woods, Armin is looking for them, something happened to Historia. This is not a scene she imagined or Eren showed her to represent how their life would've been had she confessed in Ch. 123. This happened. To show that Mikasa and Eren went back to the memories of their previous life together, they are not portraited in their current appearences. Mikasa has abandoned everything and is not going to use her gear again, so she is letting her hair grow. Eren's hair is shorter. The same happened with Armin and Eren when they time travelled in the Paths: they started as little children in Shiganshina and aged in the process. Also, Mikasa went to the Paths and then to their memories without wearing her muffler (they called it mafuraa or mafurā), but she is wearing it at the cabin scene. We see Eren and Mikasa as they were in their previous life.
As Eren dies from the curse, we see Mikasa in front of him, saying "Iterasshai, Eren", "See you later, Eren". These are the last things he saw and heard and are the very first things he remembers after waking up, in Ch. 1, from what he thought was a long dream (name of Ch.138). He asks Mikasa why her hair is so long, only because when he last saw her, in Ch. 138, it was shorter. Mikasa's hair has the same lenght in the first panel of Ch. 1 and in Eren's death scene in Ch. 138.
More importantly, going back in time with Mikasa to live again those memories is the way Eren chose to confess his love for her, at the current loop. It was also his way to lead Mikasa believe that, if he dies, everything starts again, something relatable to her, since she keeps saying that she wants to go back to happier times. She got what he meant. So, instead of hesitating, now that she knows he loves her, she wraps her muffler and decides to kill him, not for fear, anger or revenge, nor to become more independent of fim, as a character, but to set them both free from the current reality and go back. This is way she says, again, "Iterasshai, Eren", and this is why she kisses him, without forcing anything. The consequences of his death were different this time, but knowing that she did exactly what he wanted enabled her to look very calm and resigned, accepting her own actions and their fate.
Eren's confession in Ch. 139 happened when Armin was healing, in Ch. 131, from the wounds he received from Samuel (Ch. 128). In fact, after hearing Eren's confession, Armin confesses to Annie right away. We didn't noticed, but the cabin scene was the first time we saw Eren confessing, which means his feelings in Ch. 139 weren't out of nowhere.

@@bhavik2243 When I read Chapter 138, I couldn't understand this scene and couldn't stop thinking about it. Then I saw some people writing that Eren and Mikasa actually lived in the Paths for four years, but I couldn't agree. Then I read someone else saying that present Eren actually died from the curse at that same scene, but it looked to me like a repetition of a memory from the past. All these ideas, tho, helped me. I realized some others things after writing this comment and thought it would be easier to explain in a video. I finished it some days ago.
