Joe! This was amazing. I just tracked some vocals using this process and it was smooth and a lot of fun. The singer even commented on how easy I made things for him. After tracking we were able to build a solid comp out of 3 takes in about ten minutes! I keep getting better with Studio One thanks to you. THANK YOU!
Thanks Joe, after 12 years in cubase, i'm just now making the switch over to Studio One and your (and Gregor's!) videos are a lot of help. Your explanations are clear and you highlight all the important things. Thanks again!
Hi Joe...thanks so much for all your time and effort . Bought "Studio One " on the strength of your videos. You make it so easy to understand. Very much appreciated.
I love Joe! He is the reason I bought Studio One and learned how to use it by watching his tutorials. Studio one is the best and thanks to Joe I'm having a blast recording music.
Thank you Joe. I'm just getting into recording and just love the PreSonus interfaces and Studio One. You have made my mind up at the direction I'll be going in plus I've got you to help me along the way.
Joe is awesome! Your videos are solid are useful, and how you step us through everything really helps! You really expose more of the cool things S1 does and show better ways to do everything!
Hi Joe. just a quick note of appreciation for all that you do there at Presonus. I have always said "let them do what they do, I'll just play the acoustic guitar and do my songs, different world." The combination of Studio One Pro and your coaching sessions have truly been invaluable to me as a professional musician. Thanks again! I downloaded a plugin from Waves called Tune Real-Time that enables pitch correction and some of the elements that you went over in Melodyne while laying down the vocal track live. Not real versed in it yet, but for twenty-some bucks, it seems to be very good.
Just got studio one 5 moving from the defunct sonar. Your very clear and concise really helpful for me movin out of the dark. Funny to which helps. Cheers take it easy.
Melodyne is also great tool for writing vocal tracks. Sing it, tune it anyway you want it to sound, then re-sing it the way you changed it. It doesn't matter if the original sounds bad because you will delete it.
Super genius! I love that the track keeps rolling while you rewind and punch in. Could we even set this up with a foot pedal somehow for doing the same thing when recording guitars? Having to switch from “performing mode” to “engineering mode” when recording myself is my biggest frustration with most recoding apps and hardware. Studio one rocks! (And so does Joe Gilder) :-)
Hi dear Joe. Thank you for your great contribution and your great video. I do not understand how you can record vocal on same track over and over again as you are doing in you video?
I'm new to studio one (got voted to be the band recording guy) and these videos are awesome! As the singer I KNOW I'm going to watch this video multiple times! Thanks Joe!
I recently purchased studio one artist edition and this is the first time using this. Thanks to this quick and dope video I learned some things to completely change my recording sessions!! I'm sold on Studio One 5. Shouts out to PreSonus for an awesome product. I have the AudioBox iTwo with the Eris E4.5 monitors and its amazing!! Keep it up Joe you are a great instructor and easy to understand. Thanks again!!
It is really lovely to listen to you. Well explained, nice warm tone you have. Would you have videos of Studio One for Super beginners, I mean explaining what do some buttons, you clicked, mean or where do you find solution if you are stuck?
Just what I was looking for, paid money to melodyne two songs even though I had Studio One, now I can save that money lol. I am so new to this. Thank you so much. This is a great video.
Great tutorial, thanks! I have an issue though...for some reason I lost my first take if I promote another take. It's like it gets lost in the comp track or something. Do I have to make a new layer before comping or what am I doing wrong?
Only recently started doing some recordings in my home studio. Started using Studio One two nights ago and found out about Melodyne last night...man oh man what an amazing piece of software. Thanks so much for this...I have so much to learn. :)
Hey Joe 🤘🏼🎵 great stuff and vocals! What I am very much missing in Studio One is to double click on regulators to come back to the default setting on each one. (f.e. in this analog delay..) Thanks man and would be nice to meet once. Great stuff 🤤😁 Enjoy and kind regards from Salzburg
I moved over to studio one a month ago from logic. And I'm loving studio one and I haven't missed logic once. Even down to the interface makes me want to be more creative. Been watching your videos the past week and just wanted to say you've made my move to studio one easier and I'm loving your content. Keep it up. Great stuff.
Hey man thank you very much, I’ve been learning a lot from your videos, I just start to record my own backing tracks with my presonus interface but that interface came with studio one 5 artist which I don’t think has this kind of tool to tuning my voice 😅 anyways your videos are very helpful!! Thank you very much 🙏
Voice control and tuned compressor. Otherwise buy the mic used by michaeljackson on thiller. One is the money and the other is the knlowledge way. Choose one.

Hi Joe, thank you for this tutorial; very helpful. I love the "continuous playback during recording" workflow you have set up with your wireless keyboard. As an alternative to the wireless keyboard, could something similar be set up using the Studio One Remote app for iPad?
Sometimes, I create a duplicate track to punch in a revision because I’m afraid of deleting the beginning part of the next phrase... and sometimes I get an interesting effect if the first phrase trailing off and the next coming up... not sure what if any difference is made later putting them in one track.... and I guess I can consolidate into one eventually.
Thanks Joe. I like this length of video where you are able to wrap up quite a few concepts and workflow tips efficiently, but with sufficient depth so we get really get it. I’d never put two and two together about rendering Melodyne as opposed to bouncing it before. That will save me a lot of dramas!
Thanks for doing these videos - this is a big help! Changing things up and just got Studio One. I'm trying to "crash course" and learn how to do what I used to do in that "other DAW". Starting on my EP this weekend and going to do it all in Studio One 😎
My recommendation: don't try to make S1 behave like your other DAWs. I did that for a long time. When I finally embraced the way S1 was designed, I realized how much better the workflow was. - Joe Gilder
Hi Joe very informative video thank you! How are you doing the crossfade to line the vocals back up?! Kind of lost Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance
Just wondering: why did you only use 2 Layers + a comp layer? You kinda overwrote your recordings there right? I always use the "Takes to Layers" function to avoid that ^^
Hi, I'm new to Presonus, so just trying to learn some things. Your video was very helpful to help me get started. I was wondering how to make my vocals sound professional like when you used your "slay delay" function. I unfortunately cant find that, so could you assist me in how to do so. Thank you Joe.
2 questions: 1. At what point would you be editing timing of vocals? lets say you you wanted it to be a bit more laid back in pocket. at what point of the editing process would you do that? 2. If I sing alot of takes, and after comping I decide to go back and punch in again, would they still be recorded to layers? and what would your workflow be in that situation (comp then dub again). Thanks!
Hi! What can I do to listen the record like you did? I can't listen the record when the record button on track is on. I have to disable it every time I want to listen to what was recorded.
Joe I noticed that you do a lot of your blob splits for correcting melodyne's note guessing in the clip/track view and not the note assignment mode - which I thought you supposed to use, but your way looks easier, is there any tonal difference?
I absolutely love the way you explain shit..i have been learning alot..love your tutorials..keep them coming

Joe I really love your tutorials. As a beginner I find it more easier to understand and I like how you simplify everything

I am wondering about how and what you did for your slap delay, great video. thank you so much.
Send from the vocal to Analog Delay, set to probably 120 ms. No feedback. Roll off lows and highs a little. - Joe Gilder
Very nice... gonna have to watch this again. Thanks.
This is soooo helpful! I really appreciate you sharing these videos, learning a lot! Thank you!
Wow...Beautiful Voice!!!
Another nice overview that reminds us of how to work with a vocal (or whatever) in Studio One. Thanks for the presentation.

Can I do this in artist??
If I have a latency of 15ms... Do I need to do a -15ms delay on the vocal track? Or does Studio One fix this automatically?
