      Right. It's super loud in the daw, and you export it at a different volume.

    For the less technically inclined, it would be a good idea to include a preset for Audible audiobook specifications ( -23dB to -18dB RMS & -3db Max Peak).

    Good stuff. The hardest part can be that final leveling of the volumes. It can make the same vocals go from sounding bad (too loud) to sounding perfect at the perfect volume.

  • @1rcproductions
    @1rcproductions 2 года назад +9

    When you automatically brought the LUFS level down it also brought down the true peak level. Seems like it is still better to make the adjustment manually with a limiter and therefore have more dynamic range with a true peak of -1.0 db.

    • @architechproducer
      @architechproducer 2 года назад

      I guess it just does exactly what the streaming services will do with your track, which would be good for comparing the results of your master, with how it would sound, after the streaming services lower it to their LUFS standards. So, you'd master it until it sounds good on those exports too.

    • @1rcproductions

    Many thanks Joe. That's explained it really well - I was wondering how it worked.
    I love the other new features in the Project page (Clip Gain Envelopes, Automation, multiple output formats) YAY!!!! SO cool 👍
    But I'm not convinced I want to use this Target Loudness feature yet for anything other than a "preview" of what a streaming platform might do to my "carefully"(!) crafted INT and LRA LUFS/LU values on each song in the project.
    Full disclosure, though: I'm NOT putting my stuff (yet) on any streaming platforms that apply loudness capping 😆
    I'll definitely be experimenting with it after watching this vid, though.
    One of the things I'm wondering is:
    1. Song mastered to -10
    2. Exported to target -14
    3. Re-imported as a new song
    4. New Song Normalised
    What is the INT LUFS of the new song after detect loudness? Is it back to -10?
    Also, have the LRA LU or the TP L/R values been affected (changed from the original)?

    I tried something after watching this video. I adjusted the volume on the track, and it gave me the post LUFS loudness. After clicking the update loudness information, it was -9.0, then -11.6, and I finally got it to -14.6 loudness. This took about 5 seconds.

  • @jamesmulligan1077
    @jamesmulligan1077 10 месяцев назад

    Wow, this is all so very interesting, if I could only find the well-hidden start button. How do you accurately set the volume level of an event? Dragging the volume line isn't accurate at all. I need to be able to either type a specific dB or at least make it gradual. As it is it skips when you drag. You can drag it to -2.1dB but not -2.0dB. What is that? ballparkedness! Is that how it was in analog days too? Did you have to turn a giant knob with your pinky and hope it was at around about where you want it???

  • @kevinrochestermn
    @kevinrochestermn 2 года назад +5

    Thanks Joe, You mention when LUFS are under a streaming services recommend level (meaning your mix is too loud) the service will lower the volume the results will be an overly mastered song. If the project page now can lower the volume to a specified level wouldn't that also lead to an overly mastered song? In other words isn't the Project page and a steaming service doing the same thing when lowering volume? Thanks a bunch

      I have the same question.

    • @ProgressiveSoundAudio
      @ProgressiveSoundAudio 2 года назад

      @@marymoon96 Yes, well mostly. The challenge is that this feature is 'unlikely' to have the same algorithm as Spotify so it won't be an exact match, but close enough. It also doesn't factor in the difference between album normalisation and 'playlist' normalisation (my terminology isn't correct here, it's been a long day), but it will get you in the ball park.

    • @zachandtomdad
      @zachandtomdad 2 года назад +3

      I think you are correct. Perhaps the benefit of doing it in Studio One is that no further processing will be required by the streaming service, and you will know exactly what your mix sounds like.

    • @ProgressiveSoundAudio
      @ProgressiveSoundAudio 2 года назад +1

      @@zachandtomdad In theory that would be great, but as there is no 'true' standard in place (hence why the platforms all have different levels), then it won't work in practice, unless the Digital Distributors allow you to submit individual tracks for each platform. The Industry certainly needs to move forward with this to make it easier for all.

    • @mange586
      @mange586 2 года назад +4

      You will loose some bits of "resolution" by exporting it with this face palm feature enabled. If you are aiming for more dynamic like -14LUFS, do so by not hiting your final limiter so hard. This feature is extremely lame and will be avoided until done properly. This is not even close to the finish line.

    • @mange586
      @mange586 2 года назад

      Spotify punish your audio to target level -11LUFS. Note that during Spotify Loud setting your audio will if lower than target be pushed up into Spotifys limiter until your audio hits the target. Spotifys own limiter is considered to be quite bad.
