    Hey Mike, Great Video it really helped me a lot specially with the saturation part, it took my mix into a different level with just couple of notches with Soft Tube Saturation, Thanks a mil man. There is a plugin to widen the track in Studio one, its called Binaural pan, and for the frequencies, I add a splitter and add Binaural Pan on each split so I can take control of the spread of my mix.

    If you want a steeper roll off than the stock plugin can do, you can stack multiple instances of the EQ on the bus to get it as steep as you want.

    I wish you'd make a video on mastering in Studio One Artist. A lot of people have that version, but it doesn't have a project window. So while there is possible to master in the Artist version it has to be done outside the project window and there aren't any tutorials out there for mastering that way. BTW, a very nice video on mastering, though it's only for the people who own the Pro version!

    Great Video! , at 8:28 Mike chose "Pop" but the 3 lines next to the selection section is the option menu, where you can actually put in your reference track and have tonal balance analyse your actual ref, Which is EPIC!
    Izotope has mixing and mastering suits (Ozone and Neutron) Where everything talks to each other , makes life mixing and mastering a lot easier But as Mike Said YOU DON'T NEED it, Stock plugins in almost all DAWs (except Reason) are Fine!

    Hi Mike
    Interesting video, I picked up a few tips which were very different from my process!
    When discussing compressor’s around 15.44 into the video you discuss adding a compressor for taming the peaks towards the end! My thoughts are that that should be handled in the MIX stage not MASTERING. May this is a safety step!
    Thoughts ?

    Hi Mike thank you so much for always replying to the queries, need your kind help here please the situation is let say i have put lot of panning effects in my song , now when i listen to the song with headphones or in my home music system its fine i get the full panning effects however when i listen to the same song in mono in my mobile speaker i do not hear the panning effect , is there any way to overcome this

    • @richardthelionheart01
      @richardthelionheart01 2 года назад +1

      The answer is 'No'. Mono is the summing of both tracks, hence 'Monorail'. Stereo is 2 tracks, which allows for the travel across the spectrum left to right. If you were ever to mix to Mono on purpose, it would be a complete whole separate purposeful mix for mono..

    Hi Mike , what is the difference between a compressor and a limiter , i am really new if you or anybody can help

    • @CreativeSauce
      @CreativeSauce  3 года назад +1

      Great question. A compressor reduces a signal once it goes over a certain threshold. But signal still goes above it.
      A limiter basically stops it going above that threshold at all.

    No such thing as too much good information! I was LOST on the mastering page until I saw this! Thanks - great work! One thing I noticed about the mastering/project page - the RMS level on the project page is about 5db off from what ACX/Audible measures it to be... Just FYI. Maybe someday a Studio One video specific for Audible/ACX?

    Thanks Mike, I have been musing over mastering for some time as an amateur music creator. I was chuffed when I saw you used the Isotope software as I have just managed to get a copy of Isotope 9. This video was so educational and easy to understand in a world where mastering can be like herding cats! Now I just need to settle on a DAW. I have been using Reaper for a couple of years but am now looking to change that due to some recent glitches where the DAW would just shut down.....not great when I realise I have not saved in a while (another good lesson lol). The Presonus Studio One V5 looks perfect to assist me moving forward; and with some great stock plugins too! Thanks again for taking time to make these great educational videos. Awesome! :)

    Michael, I do appreciate your videos. I have Studio One Artist. My question is you are working in Professional and in Artist I do not see a project option in the upper Right. I am recording a song for my daughters wedding that she requested. I am running out of time so this is why I am sending this urgent message. I have watched at least 5 of your videos and I have subscribed. You said no question is stupid. So what I need to know currently is how do I burn to CD from Artist? I also was perplexed when I did a mixdown and it completed I could not open the file. It says no file existed. Please assist or someone from your team please assist... Thank you!!

    Hi Mike, Love your instructional videos. As someone who is brand new to making music I find them immensley useful. However, one thing that intrigues me iwhich I think you could possibly explain/demonstrate is clipping. When I am in Studio One and I see a little red square on my master fader with a number in it.. what does this mean? Is it bad? If so, why? What effect does thhis have? How is it manifested? Is it important and how should one avoid it and if it's there - fix it! Your help as always is greatly appreciated.

    Very helpful video, as always. I admire your concise and friendly style, I’ve tried using the project page but, for my purposes, found the Digital Release feature to be a deal killer. The user has no control over the folder(s) into which successive iterations of a mastered track are placed. In my experience the system insisted on creating an ever-expanding series of sub folders, each containing one mastered file. I would prefer to designate the destination folder and overwrite prior attempts. Presonus advised me that it works as designed, and that I should manually relocate mastered files from the newly created sub folders. I find that to be confusing and error prone, so I reverted to mastering in the mixer. That method lacks the metering features of the project page but at least I can control where the output file is located.

    Hi Mike. Great presentation as always, I always learn something from you 👍..... but I don't understand what you mean by minus 25 Hz!
    Surely sound cannot have a negative frequency?
    Also, isn't cutting out the low frequencies below human hearing cutting out vibrations that we can still feel with our bodies? (........and don't forget how low a pigeon can hear - and they like dancing o pop music 😁)
    I am guessing speakers cannot deliver these very low frequencies anyway, so I understand that for mastering recordings you might just as well lose it so it doesn't affect the 'computers ears' as you said in the video.

    • @CreativeSauce
      @CreativeSauce  4 года назад +4

      Oh, did I say minus 25 hz! In that case I mis spoke.
      Actually you are right about some frequencies outside of the range of our ears, which get felt by our bodies. This is more relevant in some genres than others, but thanks for raising it :)

    Hello Mike and thank you for these Studio One videos. I've been DAW shopping for a while and knowledge base/support is very important to me. I'm kicking the tires on the 30 day trial version of S1 and when I master using Ozone I render the song but the rendered wav doesn't have the Ozone processing on it. Am I doing something wrong or is that just a restriction of the 30 day trial version? I'm coming from a decades long AcidPro user and I'm finding S1 to be MUCH more intuitive than other DAWs. Thanks again for your content, excellently done and very very helpful. Hope you are well.

      Hi Glen, I'm not sure if that would be the case to be honest, as I've never used the trial. But it makes sense. Certainly Ozone does work well with S1 though.

    Hi Mike - love your way of teaching stuff...
    I ventured into Mastering inspired by this - however, I got stuck at two points:
    Ozone Imager 2 - when used is causing abrupt, random stoppages in the rendered final track.
    Is there a reason?
    LoudMax is not showing up on my Studio One 4 plugins - how to bring that about...

  • @stillmissing7948

    thanks for this video. but after i pit loudmax on and get to 14 lufs, my song is still quieter than the reference track and im wondering what i should do about this

    • @ViolectricMusic
      @ViolectricMusic 3 года назад +1

      I believe -14 luff is the setting for Spotify and other streaming services. If you are making mp3 or CDs, take it up near 0db. Your reference track is probably not from a streaming service...likely from a CD or iTunes.
      Great tutorial! Song sounds great!

    i've put this Tape Machine with this IK multimedia, my PC always crush during mastering process. i've found Softube Tape and Slate Digital are lighter CPU than IK.

    Very interesting video. Does this suggest you favour mastering in Studio one rather than Cakewalk?

    • @CreativeSauce
      @CreativeSauce  4 года назад

      I do. Mainly because the Project Page is focussed on this task. I do often master my Cakewalk projects here. Also, the Project Page is rather intelligent, as it knows when songs get update, and is able to update the Project accordingly.

      @@CreativeSauce Thank you. Seems to work like Davinci Resolve Studio - although this is geared up with video in mind. Affinity is also a suite for Design, publishing & photo-manipulation that offers 'Personas' and is a nice way to work. Your videos are always immaculate. The like button gets hit before I start watching your video. everytime. I always know if I watch a particularly nasty episode, that I can go back and angrily hit the dislike button 10 times.

    Can you make a tutorial in automation in Studio one? Because I found automation in cakewalk more easy than studio one, because cakewalk reads automation while it able to write automations.
