    The big, Big caveat, is that when you don’t insert the splitter right from the start - i.e. when having already made your gain staging and maybe applied some processing too - then you have to be much more careful about the fact that the left (or right) branch of the splitter is 6.02dB lower than the original signal.
    Most of the time, I have to insert a Mixtool in that left branch to bring the level 6.02dB up in order to preserve my gain staging.

    Hey Gregor, can you demo how to do this using a stereo compressor on a bus using the splitter plugin? when i throw a splitter on a drum bus and route one copy to stereo pipeline to use my favorite offboard compressor, coming back in and mixing with the dry signal it always sounds weird/phasey, especially with the overheads.

    Thank you very much Gregor for such informative videos. Please tell me whether it is rational to use this medot in the Projects for mastering mode. I like to do parallel compression during mastering to tighten up the mid-levels and I have always avoided the Projects mode, since there is no possibility to create a parallel bus, but thanks to you I found such an opportunity. Truly Studio One is a great program with endless possibilities =)

    Another great video, Gregor. I like how clean of a solution the splitter is. However, unless I’m mistaken I can’t automate the balance/volume of each “split” or am I missing something? Sometimes on a vocal I like to do parallel compression and even parallel saturation/distortion and add more parallel compression etc. in the chorus. I seem to only be able to do this if I use busses?

    • @presonus
      @presonus  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you so much! You are correct, the split levels cannot be automated at this time. As a workaround, you could insert a Mixtool Plug-in to each split and automate that instead. Hope this helps. -GBY

    This isn't a question about Parallel Compression (forgive me... ), but I'm not sure where else to ask this question: When setting up the FET compressor, you suggested setting all Ratios on. Can you (or someone) explain what these ratios are? I have a feel for what a ratio is on a compressor, and most compressors I've used have one setting for Ratio. I find the concept of having multiple ratios confusing. Maybe the word is being used in two separate contexts? Help! Thanks! :)

    • @presonus
      @presonus  7 месяцев назад

      Hi Kirk, pressing all the Ratio buttons at once used to be a famous trick on the 1176 FET compressor to get a maximum Ratio greater than 20:1. You are correctly assuming that there is only one Ratio here, even though multiple buttons are pressed. This just used to be the way to get the highest possible Ratio amount in those compressors back in the day. :) To learn more about what Ratio means / does in a compressor, please watch this video: ruclips.net/video/WG9-2jq81cY/видео.html

    It doesn't work as it should. This placement of the compressor, when we turn down the volume of the parallel compression feed in this way, we are essentially turning down the volume of the drums. I checked it more than once. This is not a very good way.
