YES. PLEASE. this gives me a headache so hard 😆 That's the only reason I rarely use splitter and still use busses all the time: easy before/after comparison
@David Loflin yes, so am I... i've forwarded this to a bunch of people using Presonus (I rave about it to EVERYONE), as so many people have asked me about how I go about Parallel Compression... This video explains it so much more concisely than I can.
GREAT!...I use Studio One since a few weeks now, and i'm learning more and faster than with my previous DAW. Thanks for all those tutorials, showing the amount of tricks and options available.
Joe, THANK YOU for this, i've forwarded this to a bunch of people using Presonus (I rave about it to EVERYONE), as so many people have asked me about how I go about Parallel Compression... But it takes me forever. This video explains it so much more concisely than I ever have.. Well done as usual, Joe!! :-)
@Alexey Soloviev Music YES, I agree, Studio One is the best DAW in the world (that I know about, and I use them all for different people's projects).. always end up just transferring ANYTHING into S1... Also their videos and support are like NO OTHER. Joe does a fantastic job of explaining things to less experienced people in a way that is so easily understandable, so I forward these vids to EVERYONE who asks me.
Recently switch to studio one but having problems, in FL studio when one know how to play C major key but want to play F major in C major, is there a way one can transpose C major to F major, whatever you playing on C major will turn to be F major. how to transpose c major key to another key in studio one 5
Great video! This was super informative. I am going to go jump into my latest mix now and start playing around with this and see what happens. Thanks again Joe! Keep them coming!
The only big difference between bus and FX-channel is the ability to make sends from the bus. FX channels can only be sent anywhere as a whole. So there's a difference in routing, not in sound. I personally prefer post-fader sends for any parallel processing, including compression. There's nothing wrong about having less parallel compression if the drum bus goes down in volume. Pre-Fader sends are useful mainly for sidechain applications, in my opinion.
Bus method #2: You missed a VERY important step - add both the bus and the aux (FX) to a VCA fader. Once the balance is satisfactory between the bus and the aux (FX) channels then ONLY USE the VCA to adjust into the overall song mix.... don't use the bus or aux in the song mixing process, only use them for balancing between the two. Use the VCA as your "mix" fader. The reason: you'll lose the relationship otherwise, you'll keep the relationship 1:1 using the VCA. This step is very important and most noviced engineers have overlooked this for years regarding proper NY-style parallel compression/distortion techniques. Splitter method #3: You missed the summing rule of "+6". Start with the compressed level all the way down and with the "dry" side at "+6". Due to the doubled paths this will be as close to unity compared to the original "dry only"( before using the split) for apples to apples. Then simply bring up the compressed parallel level in the splitter to taste. For extra insurance add a limiter to the bottom of the split where the paths rejoin just for safety's sake. Regards.
hello master I have Studio One artist and I haven't found how to display several adjustment plugins at the same time as soon as I turn on a second one the other goes out it's a shame because it's not practical it is better to sometimes have several plugins in front of you to make simultaneous settings do you know if it is possible and how do you do it thank you
Is there a vst or a way to normalise the combined single on the splitter? So when I change the amount of the sidechain it doesn't change the overall volume?
Quick question - that behavior with the auto switch in the compressor. Is that a bug? It looks like you clicked the auto switch, then had to click it again to get control over the gain knob.
Is it just me or you guys have started redoing the tutorials? Most of the topics recently uploaded here are what I watched when learning older versions of studio one.. I learned something though
that's because in the last two years they have hardly added any new innovative functionality or plugins, so Joe, Gregor and Marcus have to keep ruminating the existing possibilities
But indeed nonetheless this remains useful information to newcomers, or sometimes they add little details that they didn't say before which can change your insight or perspective on certains topics
I have fallen in love with the Tricomp and the mix knob for parallel compression. The saturation knob gets gnarly real quick though. 😆
The splitter tip was a great way to do it:) Normally use the send to bus way, but to reduce tracks is a good things
Joe is the man
South Africa here. Please add a bypass button on the splitter in the next update or upgrade.

I'm pretty much a parallel compression junkie so I loved this video. Huge fan of Studio One and this channel, thanks always Joe.

Your voice is freakin' awesome! Wow!
This is a must in all of my mixes. I get more punch and drive by doing this.

Such a great video! So nice to have an official vid from persons so I can do it in studio one easily!
Thank you so much Joe! Amazing and very informative video! Thanks to your and Gregory’s videos I love using S1 more and more! Super awesome daw!

Hahah subtle move there at 1:03 🤣 when are they finally gonna fix that makeup gain bug?
Have I been doing parallel compression wrong? I usually run it as an FX send with prefader on the buss (vocals).
Thanks Joe, I always used an FX channel for parallel compresion, is wrong or different than the prefader send bus ?

I'd use Splitter more often but it changes the sound of the track being fed into it, not for the better.
great
I cant find Compressor on my Studio ONE 6 Prime. Is that normal?
Cool!

Please, please, please PreSonus can we have the ability to Send Pre-Insert! 😀
Mmm. What about put a comp in a fx channel and then send the signal that You want to be comp...
If you mute the other channel, you lose 6db of gain in the overall sound.
