"Less fixing, more mixing"... sounds good to me.
Exactly
good point, this should be always in front of me when doing music
The only guy on YT that can make a vocal sit without verb. Well done sir!
These are the type of basic help we newbies need. Thank you Joe. Don't forget Leonard Cohen bass vocal, full low end vibe...
You've got a GREAT Nashville touch.😎
Thank you, I just started using Studio 5, just learning recording vocals at the moment and getting a workflow for it. 🙏
This was very helpful and love that you encourage getting good at the basics.
That's exactly what I thought: the dry track sounds really good! Makes you think about the importance of volume balance from the start, and if you can't do that because the recorded tracks sound like creap, it's time to rerecord.
you have such great teaching skills Joe, you really understand how to explain things, great!
Had lots of problems with creating the perfect mix on vocals @ my home studio (Studio One 5).. You have really answered lots of questions for me - Thank you so much kind person..
One important thing I only realised pretty late is that it’s important to learn on high quality recordings. I’ve struggled with poorly recorded tracks for a while and I got so frustrated that I almost gave up mixing because no matter what I did, I couldn’t get it to sound nice or even cut through. When learning, it can be hard to differentiate between good and bad rough mixes and while your ears are still being trained, it’s good to have an example of how a mix CAN sound and have a reference to compare to. I’m still definitely a novice, but I actually proved to myself that I can mix when the tracks are half decent. Yes, it’s good to learn how to fix things, but as I’ve learnt from editing photographs it’s easier to subtract and tweak from a detailed file than to try and add something that’s not there.
I’ve been wanting to see you do this for so long Joe. Especially on your voice. I’m looking forward to seeing you graduate this to non stock plugins then maybe to your favourite plugins on Your voice maybe even using the same song phrase as you used here so you can really A B compare between the final mix.
The result is awsome, with that slapback delay.
I've learned more from a handful of these 15m vids over the last year than I ever did in my 25yrs of recording.
More a comment on my inability to learn on my own, but jeepers.. these videos are fantastic! ✌🏾🤟🏾
Great video as alwaysJoe. As someone who just does home mixes (in a similar music genre), this is ideal for me. The stock plug ins are all I really need for my little musical doodles. 😀👍
I loved the quick and dirty vocal mix. It reminds me of doing live sound. Set it up quick and move on.
I've done live sound for years, and I've finally took the plunge and bought version 5. Lots of fun, and a few headaches too.
Thanks Joe - good stuff! New to the Sphere so really taking the fast and deep dive as much as time, friends and family will tolerate lol
Merry Christmas to you and your family! Thanks again Joe for all you do!
Only with this video, i have learned two big essentials.thanks.More videos on vocal mixing and electronic music (most on drum kits and bass),please.regards.
Loving S15 & your videos too Joe, thanks for the awesome training. 👀
This is one of the reasons that I enjoy using my Console 1 with Studio One so much. It really limits me to one set of EQ and Compressors (and console emulation, which seems to eliminate some of the EQ need for me). While this is not "stock", it meets a similar criteria of getting to know one set of tools and then expanding on those to incorporate others where they are needed. Whether with stock or with something external that is consistent, it seems that the "learn your base plugins" is a good lesson. If your source is good and you have good command of a few good stock/goto plugins, you can get near 90% of the mix done and THEN add those extra spices so they are really effective. Thanks for another great tutorial, Joe!
Thank you Joe. This was helpful. I am one of those music producers that rarely record vocals at home. When I do, I am stumped. This is what I need.
Thank you for making the process simple my friend
Merry Christmas to you and your family
Thanks for your worth full updates
Keep going
Have a wonderful day
Fantastic video Joe. Thanks!
Man! This is amazing!!!!!
Audio cuts out from 5:05-5:13
I would just like to say that I am brand new in this recording area. I have been making songs on my little $5 app on my phone for YEARS I never really considered going to a studio because I don't really make music to try to be a big huge fancy artist LOL I just do it as a hobby for fun because I absolutely love doing it whether my material is what the world wants to hear or not LOL anyhow..... so I bought the AudioBox Studio ultimate bundle package at Guitar Center and I have it all set up and everything's going great and I have now figured out how to record by watching your videos. There is no other RUclipsr that explains in-depth and shows us how exactly to do something the way you do. Applause to you my friend. You are one hell of a teacher thank you thank you thank you thank you. I have learned so much just from this little video.. Wow thank you man thank you... Where can I find one of your videos about the de-esser?? I'm the type of artist who has a very sharp S and a very poppy P..... once again thank you so much man this video was amazing
You are a great teacher. Thank you & God bless you.
Keep more videos like this coming
THANK YOU SO MUCH JOE
Excellent. A very helpful video that I’m sure I shall refer back to quite often. Thanks.
Hi Joe ,I am just starting looking at effects etc, when you put the delay on just the vocals I thought it was way to much (what do I know) but when you played it back in the mix it sounded awesome.. I certainly have a lot to learn about how to use effects on vocals.Thank you Joe for this "eye opener"
Great video thanks. Just got started with Studio One and advice like this is gold
Great work on this. You have a good voice mate.
best video i seen of this straight to the chase...
Nice Stuff Joe. Blessings
i love how you show it vey simple and straightroward
Great video! I'd love to see your approach to mastering.
İ purchased studio one 5 artist a few weeks ago. i like it. Great program and has very good stock plugins
thanks Joe, nice lesson with few very important tips I should remember
yeah, you're gifted at teaching. thanks for this.
Very good advice... plus, your voice is AMAZING!
This is extremely helpful. Wow, I heard that difference.
“Strangling it!”… “hmmm that’s violent “ 😂 my favorite part
I have a deep seeded appreciation for learning the importance of mastering the basics of the recording craft. these are elements that need to exist on almost every recording and you and Gregor present them quite well. Because of my acquiring Studio One 5 Professional, my subscription to Sphere and the wonderful instruments I've bought and learned over the years, my muse has been unleashed.Thank you all so much for your continued contributions. I can't wait to progress from the essentials that you so masterfully instruct Joe, to learning the eccentric methods of the industry used in the works of Peter Gabriel, XTC, The Police and others. I look forward to a little George Clinton or Steve Lillywhite methods in the future. Til then, Thanks for schooling me in the methods you have mastered. All of you at PreSonus have my unending gratitude. I have so much more to learn from all of you. Thank You..
This tutorial is gold!!
Great Tute - thanks I've saved this to go back to. I realize that I master my voice based on my dislike of the sound of my voice, to try to make it closer to what I'd like it to be, rather than what a "good production sound" for MY VOICE should be. Be objective not subjective. I look forward to going back through this again. Thanks.
You have an awesome voice
This helps a lot! Thank you
Thank you Jo for taking the time to share your skills and experience. Much appreciated. 🙏
Alright! Flexin’ on vocals. I like the voice.
3rd or 4th time viewing this; I may be getting it! Our vocalists deserve it.
Love this 🤘😁
Great video !!!! Thank you so much!
Very helpful, thank you!
Thank you!
“... that’s violent!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Really Thank you 🙏🏼
I enjoyed this!
Ótima aula. Obrigado!
Helpful. Thank you 🙂
Awesome.. great info !
great job buddy
This is where I need to stick. Thanks Joe.
Thanks for the tutorial brother❤ love from 🇱🇰
Wow, great info. Maybe its just because it sounds louder, but i find using two eqs helps make the individual notes stand out more. Talking about a single acoustic guitar.
Very helpful... I've been using Izotope for quite a while as the presets are the same in coming from PT, but so see how you've done it here is bigly helpful.
HELPED ALOT THANKS
Excellent video! Very helpful indeed.
If there was an “after compression blob preview button” in S1’s compressor to see what the blobs would look like while adjusting the compressor settings - in real time mind you - and displayed maybe on an adjacent track along with the original, it would be fantastic.
Joe you’re the man, Studio One is an amazing DAW but definitely one of the things that made me do the change were you and Gregor because I can always rely on you to learn how to use my tools properly. Question, is there any number that I could call as a presonus sphere user for direct questions on technical stuff, software or hardware? There’s always little things that you encounter that are hard to find an explanation of. Thank you as always
I love Studio One stock plug ins, me personally!
Thanks Joe
Lots of good vocal plugin technique
I just got the presonus 18i20 eithe the artist software
I have used pro-tools digi 001 daw since 2000
Sorry didn’t finish my comment
Long story short my old windows xp pc died so I decided to up grade with presonus instead rof pro tools.
I have a lot to Learn
Thank you for your helpful videos
Jerry in Ga.
Very helpful ..Thank you so much
Thank you so so much Bro!👍
great video
This is what I do. muffled and muted tone can kill the vocals, vocals need to be well balance and crisp!
Thank you for this video. I have been trying to teach compression to a friend without a lot of verbal explanation. Once he hears this I think we can repeat it then move on to eq, compression Correlation
Great video
Thank you.
thank you!!!
Thanks 🙏🏽💯🎧
Yoo I got the studio one 86 it’s dope asf thank you for the tips !
amazing video
thank you thank you thank you
My favorite lessons ,Thank You
ruclips.net/video/pu_W3SdKZYE/видео.html I'm sorry if this is bad but does he have potential? :)
@@gabrielnorman9188 why is it bad ??? Less is better , I love it and will go over some older recordings and definatly improve them ,
Very good information for a begginer like me!
great tutorial... huge help! Thanks Joe... F-ing helpful... no joke here
Ty sO much I learn a Lot.
Thx joe!!! 👍🏾
Awesome info on mixing. Very helpful. But I also want to comment on your music. It is really beautiful.
It'd be cool to see some wild vocal effects that you can create with stock plug-ins too! Also vocal panning tips?
Thanks 👍🏼
ur song is fire
Your explanation of compression is great - turn down the loud parts and then turn EVERYTHING up. "Fixing is not Mixing"... Ba-boom- ching !!.... classic Joe 😂😂
"you can get....great sounding mixes....using the plug ins that come with your software...". This is a true statement. I had a high paying client, and on a personal dare, I mixed the entire project using nothing but S1 Pro plug ins. I sent a first draft over to see if they'd approve...and they posted the project before responding to me. Don't go down the plug in rabbit hole...work on getting good mixes with the tools at your disposal.
Hello. How do you adjust your levels before recording the track to ensure you're recording at a -18 to -24 for narration? Vocals?
great Tutorial mr. Joe Presonus Audio. DAW.
Those tips in the first few minutes should make all the difference for many including myself. I'm still troubleshooting but I bought a $1,300 mic and it sounds the same as my $100 mic so I think the problem is coming from how I'm actually recording.
thank you, very useful, I did'nt find the slap delay plug in that you used in the stock plugin. Only the Analog Delay.
I thought my headphones were not working there from 05:04 - 05:12, Great video, thanks Joe
Thank u
Nice
