    Thanks Joe! This is very useful about how to get something right at the source. Mic technique is something not talked about very much on RUclips and it’s very good to have it explained by someone experienced.

    This is fantastic advice, I really appreciate the time you put into this video Joe. I've been doing remote interview episodes using a Blue Yeti but I recently bought an interface, AKG C214, and Presonus Studio One 4 to use in both podcasting and music production, so this tutorial is extremely helpful. Cheers!

    thanks for this, I'm starting to realize how important having templates and really planning these things out is. I update my podcast so sporadically I end up feeling like I'm starting from scratch every time; setting up a template will speed things up!

    i have the izotope suite which i got free with some blue yeti microphone equipment and to be honest imovie on my iphone sounds clearer and better, especially if i use voice recorder pro and 'open in another app' and add it to imovie, or garage band, or just use camera in imovie or put a thumbnail on my iphone. the sound is superior. There is also active presenter free, and loads of other apps for podcasts on mobile or pc. Mobile has some great podcasting and vlogging apps that make this kind of fine tuning unnecessary or easier to manipulate. This really is imovie minus all the features except voiceover. I get a great 48,000hz acc sound from my iphone using voice recorder pro and headphones or just a quiet room and speak in front of the phone holding the phone with your hands cupping it. Much clearer than you now.. NO gain needed, no echo from surrounding ambient sounds, no tinny sound from gain control. I believe a lot of Pro Podcasters and Vloggers and Gamestreamers are too focused on the false belief you need a floating studio microphone which doesnt follow your head as it moves close and far, like earbud microphones do. Apple or Samsung Earbuds in my PS4 controller is 5 times better than the Blue Yeti Studio as i dont have to glue my head to the wall to maintain constantly same distance from microphone... neckache.. or, turn up the gain and sound tinny like you do all midrange no wide spectrum of bass midrange and treble. I found the app just does what many of my already installed apps do and is not as fully featured, nor does the encoding sound as good as my favorite voice recorder, voice recorder pro on iOS, and garage band for adding backgrounds.

    Doesn't being that far away from the mic increase your noise floor? I feel like I'd have to turn up the gain a lot being that far from the mic.

    Hey joe, I saw you put your limiter on Post section of the master channel.. I generally put all my mastering plugins before the post and any sort of meter on the post.. What is the optimal way? And Does it matter?..

    • @AngelAngelesIII
      @AngelAngelesIII 3 года назад +1

      I too put limiters on the post section of the master bus. That way, you can turn up the master bus fader but still not clip because the limiter is "post-fader". If I use a bus compressor then I'll put it on the inserts section instead.

    i have a shure sm7b that has a close up talk shield what about close up talk on that? i usually keep far enough away but i've seen some youtubers use the close up talk filter on the sm7b

    • @AngelAngelesIII
      @AngelAngelesIII 3 года назад

      If you want that "radio jockey" voice then 1 inch away from the SM7B is good but as Joe said, put it off-axis from your mouth so that way you can minimize the plosives that come out of your mouth. The closer the mic is to the source of sound, the more bass it receives. It's called proximity effect.

    Hey Joe i have a question. I just got the ultimate studio bundle that comes with an audiobox usb 96 and i have everything set up but i have one issue. I have a yamaha keyboard with a cord that cannot connect to the audiobox. Is it possible for me to just plug the usb end of the cord that is connected to my keyboard into my laptop and record my piano in studio one?

    • @presonus
      @presonus  3 года назад

      Nope. Usually that USB chord is to allow you to use your keyboard as a MIDI controller. To record the audio, you need to run audio cables from the keyboard to your interface. - Joe Gilder

    Very lame and super basic. Most free apps will make it much easier to record a more professional broadcast.
    At the very least a podcast solution in S1 should offer ways to easily manage/live adds intros outros standard FXs, play a song or recorded material, switch to guest nr x and whatnot. Probably by using the new live features of S1?

    • @Mikey__R
      @Mikey__R 3 года назад +1

      But then you've got to learn a new tool or new feature. Some people like specific tools for specific jobs, others like a single tool generic enough to handle most jobs. I used to do all my editing in Soundforge, because I knew how it worked.
