Brand new to GMRS Communications, as I have not used my first purchase of two (2nd gen) Tidradio H8 GMRS HANDHELD RADIOS . Trying to set up a more powerful base station (Hurricane Season is around the corner)and considering the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus Base / Mobile radio. So my question is do these different brand GMRS devices communicate with each other? Also, if using the Wouxun DWC30WIN 30A Switching Power Supply, I’m in trouble understanding which antenna would be compatible? Thank you for your videos and hand gestures 😊
I'm not willing to spend over $300 and get anything less than the KG-1000G. Even if I didn't ever use all the features it has, the superior internals would be worth it IMO.
I'm Partial to the Midland. I'm not a radio geek and love the simplicity and range of the Midland. Its also really well built I feel and very simple to operate. Your reviews are very detailed and highly informative for those of us interested in simple communications.
Finished watching this video (almost a year after you published it) and went with the Wouxun KG1000G Plus... I made sure to use the affiliate link below! ;)
As an expert I can tell you that Btech would have achieved correct power ratings if he had simply used the "marker recalibration" technique. It's very simple and it's the standard technique for testing the cheap Chinese radios. You simply cross out the old power readings and draw in the "correct" power readings. Using this technique I got 1500 watts out of my Baofeng HT. This is very similar to how cheap lithium batteries are tested. In that case you see how many numbers you can fit on the batteries with the term "Mah".
So to simplify for a lay-person, such as myself, you are saying the following. All that needs to be done is to combine the point nucleus radius with cosign of the antenna's dynamical system? Well why did he just say that in the first place? 🤔
Great video, I just recently got myself a mxt500 after I got my gmrs license, with the stock 2 DB antenna I was able to clearly hit a repeater 12.5 miles away, no LOS, threw about 12 miles of mountains. Was very easy to setup and program.
Good grief, filed my application and went looking for reviews of 50W radios and here's your video only 28 minutes old. It's like you made this just for me!
After watching this channel for a week, I literally can't tolerate any other radio channel on YT. I deleted them all, not even kidding.. I've been watching ham vid's since 2014, dumped them all
Not a Rubicon is costing me quite a bit of money these days. I was never a radio dork but he has a way of making you dork out. I just began construction of my base station command center in the corner of my bedroom, that I fought my wife for control over, So I can command over my 1 1/5 acre lot. Very quickly my 5 year old daughter put all her toy vegetarian stuff on my base station desk and claimed it as her Veteran Command Center. So now a battle has begun.
Thank you so much for this excellent comparison! I particularly appreciated information such as which radios are SOC and which are super heterodyne. I also appreciated learning things like the Midland doesn't even have channels 8 through 14 and has limited reception frequencies, and that the Wouxan can receive much higher frequencies. Definitely an excellent comparison!
This is my favorite channel. You always give pricise unbiased information and I have made purchases from your information on your videos and never regretted my purchases.
I would like to thank you for all you do! It has helped us to purchase radios for Township use. We have 6ea 50x-1 and 6 Baofeng walkie talkie s. All purchased after listening to your u tube suggestions. We have installed our antenna on a 60 foot tower. Our FARS are not to good as we have alot of trees and rolling hills in NJ. the township it putting out antenna on a 200 foot tower soon. Hope that extends our FARS. Again thank you for your help. Bob
As a new "radio operator" I have no idea what made this highly enlightened airwaves guru choose me as his favorite viewer, but I am taking my title seriously and paying thorough attention to all senpai can teach me!
I went with the KG-1000G. Removable faceplate and being superheterodyne sold it for me. No problem recommending to anyone looking for a very good GMRS radio. I was so impressed with the quality of the KG-1000G, I purchased the Wouxan KG-UV980P for my Ham radio.
Bought the Midland, excellent unit. So simple anyone can use it. Love your humor!! You provide excellent information in an easy to understand presentation. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for this comparison. I was not aware of the low output on the BTech, which puts it more in the category of a 25W mobile radio. Good luck with the comment free-for-all, and HI CHRIS530!
Just getting into the gmrs "cool kid" scene and am enjoying your content so far. Just wanted to say thank you for making me your favorite viewer. Also, I love the shirt in this video.
Good & needed video... since I am new in the "radio'' communication world... your video came just in time, I am planning to buy a mobile radio... After watching I have made my decision.... KG1000G...Thank You for this excellent review...
Love how quirky this presenter is. Keep it up man, you've helped me make lots of important decisions, both money saving and investing in the right equipment where I should. Building my truck this winter and want my rolling shack setup done.
I asked Randy if I was his favorite viewer and he told me that out of thousands of his viewers, I was his second favorite. I thought that second out of thousands was was really great. I was so happy! But I had to ask who his favorite viewer really is and he said, "All the rest are tied for first!" LOL Just kidding! Another great video Randy!
I have owned a B-tech 50x2 for over 2 years and have it programmed it with CHIRP for GMRS, Ham 2 meter/70 cm and MURS. I am getting over 60 watts output on MURS and a little over 50 watts with 2 meter and close to 50 watts on GMRS and 70 cm. I have programmed 4 other B-tech 50x2 radios for members of our MAG with similar results. We can directly communicate up to 20 miles across a lake without a repeater, and around 12-15 miles over hilly terrain with our rooftop antennas that vary from 30 to 55 feet above ground level using GMRS, Ham or MURS.
It's also possible that Randy's channel has intimidated so many Sad Hams with myth-busting facts that they are now very hesitant to make stupid comments? Haha...
Just received my Midland MXT500 last night. Initial test was good to go! Was going to install in pickup however I think I'll be installing this one in my Ranger. I did order a MXTA26 to test out.
My BTech 50X1 started having a major clarity / readability issue after about a year. Peoples on the other end were having a bad time with what I was sounding like. A replacement microphone did not fix the issue. Have since ripped it out of my truck, and delegated it to the pile of useless toys I’ve spent countless thousands of dollars on attempting to filling the hole in my heart. I cannot for the life of me figure out where Midland thinks the MXT500 is worth $400. Even with a dinky antenna. I would happily pay $250 for it. No more. And so, I will leave that radio the the “$95,000 Jeep I can’t actually afford,” people to have. I didn’t even know about the Wouxon G model. Maybe I will try that next.
I watched your videos before deciding on which GMRS radio I was going to purchase. I made my choice for the Wouxun KG-100G based on the detachable faceplate and it has a wide range of frequencies to scan. It also seemed the most user friendly, esp once you buy the data cable and program it with the Wouxun software, it's much like CHIRP. Any who, keep up the great videos and commentaries, really enjoy it. Stupid people do get annoying.
From previous reviews of the KG-1000G on your channel, I am replacing my MXT400, just waiting on that slow-boat from China... The feature set of the Wouxun was a no brainer with the enormous quantities of channels to program, honestly didn't realize what I was missing out on with my Midland, but I have no doubt that I will appreciate everything the KG-1000G offers once I actually have it mounted in my rig. As always, thanks for your opinion, and the entertainment factor!
Thanks for explaining "superheterodyne" in greater detail and comparing it to SOC. Now I know why my KG-916 GMRS (superheterodyne) sounds clearer than my KG-935G (SOC).
Well based on this video, I just ordered the Wouxun KG-1000G ( through your affiliate link) . I can't wait to get it. Thanks for all the detailed information.
Thank you for the videos. I am new to gmrs. I have the mobile Midland mxt115 and the mxt 575 with the upgraded mike. I am enjoying both radios. I am able to get to 7 of the repeaters and 2 are up to 65 miles from me.
Thx for the informative videos! After watching your videos on the Wouxun KG-1000G and KG-905G, I purchased two KG-1000G's, a Midland MXT500 and two KG905G's from BuyTwoWay. ALL the radios are awesome and are well worth the money. Keep up with the pro GMRS!
THANK YOU FOR THE CRASH COURSE ON GMRS RADIOS. VERY HELPFULL! IN CANADA FROM WHAT I HEARD IS THAT YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO WORK A 2 WATT HT. THERE ARE NO REPEATERS IN CANADA (GMRS) SO SAD 73
Wow, I have been looking for a mobile unit and my brain was in over drive reading all the spec's. Thank you for your review this made it So much easier. Reading spec's are one thing but hearing your comments and power tests, especially the bleed over part pushed me to the wouxun. Again Thank you
Thank you for taking the time to record, edit ace post this and all your other videos. I enjoy watching and learning from them and value your experience and opinions. Thank you!
Thanks for explaining how the radios have SOC or Super-het circuit. Helps deciding which works better in different environments such as base or mobile and “some people’s” needs. I am leaning to the Wouxun KG1000 for both my base and a mobile units. Thanks.
My choice would be the KG-1000 hands down for 2 reason. It being Superhedrodine and being able to receive more frequencies including Ham. It would be nice during an emergency to have longer legs to reach out and listen to the radio waves, even if I can’t talk back, though I can in an emergency with a radio that can do that (without a Ham license). Only thing is, I’m not sure if I can get a big antenna that will pick up GMRS and Ham. I would think you could though because my Wouxun UV9GX pics up GMRS, FRS, MRS, AM Air Band, and Ham. Maybe I missed one. Anyways, awesome radio. Used his affiliate link and the discount code worked. Awesome, awesome, awesome radio. After going from a Baofeng to a Wouxun, it’s hard to consider anything else. They are just top notch equipment.
Could you do a review on the best 15-25 watt radio for a first time buyer or as a portable base station. Your reviews are both hilarious and informative!
Ah Ha! Eureka...you helped me make the decision to buy two of these for two vehicles with different needs/capabilities. (hint...NOT the BTECH) Great video as always, thank you for keeping the stupids at bay.
This is the type of comparison I am very fond of. I have been offroading for many years and am finally moving from CB and wanted someone to shine the light on for me. I like your concise deep dives and your summary at the end. Keep up the great content!
I guess Midland didn't send you their new MXT575 to evaluate. Hm. I had to watch one of the other channels to see that. Well, I guess we have to work with what we have. That said, I went the cheap route with the BTECH. There are so few gmrs operators near me I don't have to worry about channel bleedover and such. Thank you for another incredibly informative video.
He has had a MXT575 for the past 6 months, he's just not allowed to talk about it yet, only after it becomes available to the public. I prefer the higher quality Wouxun KG-1000G. Per the following recent *Midland* email, the *MXT575 will be available next week. midlandradio.attn.tv/p/Iv0/landing-page?attn_sid=061c9c24-000c-4e63-9b0f-f6d1a2dfba73
All of the people in our off-road group are hams so we use 70 cm simplex most of the time but I do have my GMRS license and have been thinking of getting a mobile rig, a removable face plate is a must since I already have my FTM400 remote mounted on my dash. Good info here, thanks!
Took the pup for a ride in the sidecar along the MIssissippi River today and clipped the GMRS 9R to the phone holder (I went with it because it is waterproof) and it worked pretty well with my new Slim Jim antenna hung on the 2nd floor porch. Lotas static from the motorcycle. Was using the "tape measure" antenna. Maybe the magnetic Nagoya would be better. But what Randy said about the superheterodyne Wouxun KG-1000G dealing well with interference makes me think it might work better on the motorcycle. And it can be turned into a router in the future.
Howdy, the new to the gmrs/ ham technology. My question is is it possible to buy a base unit for 50 Watts that canthat can transmit ham and GMRS? I’m just totally ignorant in this department. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I SssOooo thank you for this video! Now I know... (comment's going to get deleted because it might be "off-topic"), what "50 watt UHF/VHF mobile radio" I want to buy - THAT - we can get a "MARS/CAP mod" for an extra fee from a well known Amateur Radio dealer at which I'm going to be spending upwards of $700.00 for that and the accessories that I want; AS in one of your other well quality produced videos that was equally entertaining the FCC isn't really going to give a crap of what brand of radio I'm using on the GMRS/FRS frequencies. Once again, big salute, KD8EFQ/73
Really hope you get a early release of the Midland MXT575 to review. I am only waiting on that one to make a final choice on the KG1000. Looking for easy mounting which the KG offers and soon the MXT575
@@TheNotaRubicon Can the KG system be easily put from one vehicle to the next if you have mounts, power and antennas installed in both vehicles? I go between trucks and not wanting to buy two systems. I had the Midland MXT system in the past and the ease to swap is one aspect so trying to see how this would be with the KG setup as the mount bracket seams like it is not a quick release type system like Midland.
I like the channel. I am looking to add a permanent mount unit for my Bronco and this was a good explanation of the three 50W options. Interesting difference with SOC vs. discrete components. Now on to your antenna shoot out 🤤
I bought the btech 50x1 for my first mobile radio. I plan on using it for Jeep trail rides so i dont need a big fancy radio. Lets see what happens. Im new to the GMRS world.
Checked and the Midland is now the only one of the three still available. If there are new options at this time, would you consider doing an update video on this topic. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.
Since the KG1000G is discontinued, I’d recommend its successor, the KG1000G+, which Randy reviewed, and that review should have an affiliate link to click on. ❤
Having a squelch that operates well is a real benefit if you have others in the car. I have several UV-5R radios including one in each car for anytime comms. When I put a nice radio in the car for trips, it has a better squelch circuit that doesn't break open with static for no real reason. This is my major complaint about the radio. From the sounds of the comments in the video, this makes the Wouxon my choice. The others have the SOC receivers (like the UV-5R) that are not as selective. To other favorite viewers (I thought I was special, but maybe not): Try listening to our very knowledgeable host at 1.5X playback. After all, he doesn't want to waste our time 👨🎓
I was able to modify a HF-1K Linear amp to boost the UV-5R and the MXT500 to 1KW power in my car. Had to use a long 10G extension cord to power the amp but after the sunburn I was about to communicate to mars via GMRS. Musk Says hello.
I have the mxt500 and kg1000g. The mxt500 is a bit overpriced for what you get but it is very simple and they both work well. Invest in a good antenna which ever one you choose.
Smart, thoughtful, concise……
He said smart, concise, thoughtful comments would be pinned. You have successfully tricked him. Best channel on YT.

Yeah , so ? He said that i...I...am his favorite viewer .
I'm not willing to spend over $300 and get anything less than the KG-1000G. Even if I didn't ever use all the features it has, the superior internals would be worth it IMO.
To bad it doesn’t have a ta5 connector on it
I'd love to see an updated version of this to include all current models of 50W GMRS radios...
That would be great!
50x3.. ? There's like no vids on it with gmrs.. wish they would combine that and the 25x4 quad watch, awsome feature...
I'm Partial to the Midland. I'm not a radio geek and love the simplicity and range of the Midland. Its also really well built I feel and very simple to operate. Your reviews are very detailed and highly informative for those of us interested in simple communications.

🤣😂
That sounds more precise than using the WAG system. I will start researching marker colors to see which have better swr's.
So to simplify for a lay-person, such as myself, you are saying the following. All that needs to be done is to combine the point nucleus radius with cosign of the antenna's dynamical system? Well why did he just say that in the first place? 🤔
I find that the finer-styled sharpies work the best...
@@explorenaked I just tried your method. It works well.
Then I tried your method, with it attached to my Brown Corp Flux Capacitor.....WOW!!!!!!

Could you do a review on the best 15-25 watt radio for a first time buyer or as a portable base station. Your reviews are both hilarious and informative!
Cool video. Glad I got my gmrs and called up buy 2 way radios to get on the KG1000G "wait list" er, pre-order, um backorder? Lol.
Thanks for your awesome humor and insight. I have now decided the best radio for me 2 yrs ago.
Thank you, your videos ate great. I appreciate the straight foward, honestly blunt approach. Im doing my homework for my truck radio. Thank You!
EXCELLENT COMPARISON! Love the pencil pointer or pencil pointing sideways pointer. For simple I will go with the Midland since for me the KISS works.
Ah Ha! Eureka...you helped me make the decision to buy two of these for two vehicles with different needs/capabilities. (hint...NOT the BTECH) Great video as always, thank you for keeping the stupids at bay.
Thanks, to You... my favorite RUclips contributor.
This is the type of comparison I am very fond of. I have been offroading for many years and am finally moving from CB and wanted someone to shine the light on for me. I like your concise deep dives and your summary at the end. Keep up the great content!
Love your shirt...you can't fix stupid. You helped me to become less ignorant by your information on these various radios. I like the Ocean (lol) one.
Brilliant presentation for newbies like me! You actually keep my attention though the whole video unlike most other blathering RUclipsrs.
@@royrobinson4636 I just watched a month old review/unboxing of the 575 by "The Right Line" channel. Maybe someone didn't get the memo.
All of the people in our off-road group are hams so we use 70 cm simplex most of the time but I do have my GMRS license and have been thinking of getting a mobile rig, a removable face plate is a must since I already have my FTM400 remote mounted on my dash. Good info here, thanks!
Thanks for another great video. I'm your favorite viewer lol. I always enjoy watching the videos very helpful.
This was Perfect, direct and what i needed to hear to make my decision. Love your sarcasm...lol
Well done, thank you for this review. I'm new to the GMRS game and your channel has helped me tremendously.
Please do a review of the baofeng BF-18L handheld radio 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Howdy, the new to the gmrs/ ham technology. My question is is it possible to buy a base unit for 50 Watts that canthat can transmit ham and GMRS? I’m just totally ignorant in this department. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I knew it! I really am your favorite viewer. You pointed right at me!
So smart, so concise, so thoughtful!
I'm new at this radio stuff, I appreciate the easy to understand radio jibberish. lol thanks again looks like the midland is gonna be my choice!
Yes!!! I have been waiting for you to make this video!!!!!
Once again Thank You for another video. You make learning this easier each time.
I have the Kenwood. 25 watt Seems to do good for me. I also have a number of different brands of Hand held walkie-talkies.
Is the Kenwood you have GMRS or HAM?
@@haik000Honestly it doesn't much matter as long as it's part 90 or 97 certified.
Once again, big salute,
KD8EFQ/73
Down to earth approach. Easy to understand as a beginner. Thank you!
Really hope you get a early release of the Midland MXT575 to review. I am only waiting on that one to make a final choice on the KG1000. Looking for easy mounting which the KG offers and soon the MXT575
I've had an MXT575 for 6 months but I'm not YET allowed to talk about it.. But I will be able to, very, very soon.
Looking forward to that one also. Hope they have added a few more features than just a fancy mic…
@@TheNotaRubicon 6 months!!! Driving around with it and just laughing at us commoners as we dream.
@@TheNotaRubicon awesome, thanks for getting back to me :)
I just love watching your content nomater what you talk about lol
I like the channel. I am looking to add a permanent mount unit for my Bronco and this was a good explanation of the three 50W options. Interesting difference with SOC vs. discrete components. Now on to your antenna shoot out 🤤
I bought the btech 50x1 for my first mobile radio. I plan on using it for Jeep trail rides so i dont need a big fancy radio. Lets see what happens. Im new to the GMRS world.
I have three of the KG1000G's, one for each vehicle and one as a base station.
So your why I can't get one... Now I know who to blame!
I really like my TYT TH-9800 because it can be used as a crossband repeater.
This answered practically all my questions!
I will get the one that I can afford, but your info is very helpful
Having a squelch that operates well is a real benefit if you have others in the car. I have several UV-5R radios including one in each car for anytime comms. When I put a nice radio in the car for trips, it has a better squelch circuit that doesn't break open with static for no real reason. This is my major complaint about the radio. From the sounds of the comments in the video, this makes the Wouxon my choice. The others have the SOC receivers (like the UV-5R) that are not as selective.
To other favorite viewers (I thought I was special, but maybe not): Try listening to our very knowledgeable host at 1.5X playback. After all, he doesn't want to waste our time 👨🎓
I own the MXT500.. i'm talking to people on repeaters 80 miles away in central NC I love your videos. You have taught me a LOT!! WROK349
Love the shirt. Those are he most feared words on an SSBN sub.
I was able to modify a HF-1K Linear amp to boost the UV-5R and the MXT500 to 1KW power in my car. Had to use a long 10G extension cord to power the amp but after the sunburn I was about to communicate to mars via GMRS. Musk Says hello.
Even Duct Tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound, so it's almost as good!
I have the mxt500 and kg1000g. The mxt500 is a bit overpriced for what you get but it is very simple and they both work well. Invest in a good antenna which ever one you choose.
