Sir, the Wouxun KG-1000G PLUS is a professional grade radio, not your cheaply produced consumer based radios which perform fine but lack the rugged quality and features you would only find in communication equipment designed to last in the real world. -WD40
I recently had a weird issue with my KG-1000G (after about two months of daily use) where the radio would not break squelch for UHF/GMRS reception...worked fine for listening in on local 2M repeaters but the only way to hear UHF was to put the radio into monitor mode (no squelch). So, I boxed it up and sent it off to BTWRadios. Then the new radios were out of stock...so I had to wait a few weeks. Last Friday, I received an email from them that my radio would ship back to me this past Monday but get this...They offered to send me the new Plus version at no additional cost. I replied, "of course!" Can't say enough good things about BTWR...great support, instant chat for q's and very responsive. I would not hesitate to purchase ANY radio gear from them. Cheers!
I purchased a KG1000G plus and have been very happy with it. I am a part of the North Georgia GMRS repeater group. Keep up the good work and thank you!
I wish I could afford this radio, but I had to retire because of a disability. I sure do miss working. I really like Wouxun radios I have a few of their handhelds. Great review Randy.
I have a kg1000 mounted in both my Jeep and my wife’s Jeep. Excellent radio. Both have the face plate remote mounted. Purchased due to the excellent review in this channel. Very happy with this selection.
Possibly weird question. I am looking for this to be a base station in my hunting cabin. The remote mount face plate. Could I put the radio and the power source in the closet and mount the faceplate and mic on the wall for a cleaner look and less hardware out on the table?
Thanks Randy. I just inked to Buytwowayradios and ordered a KG-1000 plus. I spent a few weeks researching to find the right radio for me. Your videos were the best source of information I found! Please keep up the good work. Don’t change a thing. I don’t know why “some people” hate wha……😊
Thank you for all the helpful info. I was going to go CB as I have a lot of fun memories with my dad in the late 80's and 90's. I just got an off road 4x4 and was researching what radio to get. You helped me decide on GMRS over CB. I want a 50 watt with aux speaker output, pc update capable and affordable. Still undecided on what model. I enjoy your comparison videos they are fun, Funny, helpful and informative.
Why do I want to buy (almost) every radio you review? I want them all. At once. On. Maybe I could stop cooking and just bring ingredients home. Another great review. Informational and entertaining presentation Sir!
Ditto. Thanks to Randy I have a 1000G and 2 UV9GX Pro's (from the affiliate links below) sitting quietly in their pretty boxes. And a license. I haven't had a radio since my 1970's 19 channel CB. Technology has far outstripped my ability to assimilate it (I was the kid who could set up the VCR in the day) so I am certain I will never utilize these radios to their full extent, therefore I think I can resist the urge to upgrade to the 1000G+...... maybe. Anyway, not sure how this channel popped up on my feed but I do enjoy watching and maybe I'll learn a thing or three!
How about that news on the plus model. I think it's funny seeing a Mossberg breakdown mat in the picture. Thanks for your continued sharing on all of the GMRS radios.
I get a kick out of that Mossberg tech mat too. I've seen other mats as well. Keep watching the picture (or screen, not sure) on the wall. It changes with the times. The subtle message with the "sink" is not lost on me, as I see others have commented on it too.
Almost a year into GMRS and I have a ton of great gear. I fear I may have taken it a little too far tho, I got my ham. Still using GMRS every day. My favorite radio is still my KG-1000G+.
The big difference between regular and plus for me is that the plus was in stock and I will take delivery tomorrow. Now if Kemp Wireless will hustle up with the XTL5000 I ordered on the same day. Yesterday is the new tomorrow when it comes to shipping.
I recently decided to dive deeper into GMRS, I was looking for a cheap repeater solution when I came across your video about linking two KG-1000G , Great Video. I was sold, I bought two of them, as I did my final click I saw where the Plus was available, A quick call to correct and all is well.
Hey Randy, Could you do a troubleshooting video on the KG-1000G Plus. As many of us have bought this radio because of your videos and don't know how to use them. Reaching out to BuyTwoWayRadios is great for support but a video by the most entertaining would be awesome to see!
I ordered the plus as soon as i got the email about it. Supposed to be delivered today. Hope to get it installed in my Jeep this weekend depending on if i can figure out a nice place to mount the face plate without having to 3D print an adapter.
Thanks for all the info and links regarding this Radio! I would say the "OLD NON-PLUS" will be good for me since I bought 1 the day Randy had the video. I see no reason to spend the $$ to upgrade SO FAR. Keep in mind "people" I have several radios for all types of platforms. No huge benefit/difference in my case. It is a great improvement and "IF" I did not own the 1000 I would jump on it! I have this exact radio and wired right to my battery in my vehicle with a mellow wave Mount and 6db Gain Midland antenna and I'm getting low 60 down to 55 Watts on gmrs channels and 55 to 52 Watts easily on repeaters channels that's without a dummy load collecting the RF so it could be higher I don't know, using the same meter you have here. . Love my KG 1000G Plus now I just want a better higher power good portable gmrs radio too. Randy your the sole reason I got my gmrs license and I love it. I just wish more people on the road truckers included would switch to gmrs and why not channel gmrs channel 19 be the road channel as it seems 16 is used a lot offroad
Hello, I am new in the GMRS world and I very much appreciate your videos, love your sense of humor and the profound knowledge you are sharing. I have a question to the KG1000G+, which I almost bought: Can the brightness of the display be changed / dimmed? It may be a distraction when driving at night. Thanks for taking the time to answer. Hardy.
sooo much plus....... it's like a whole buncha KG1000g and then..................................................BAM!!!!! you get some plus in there and it's a total GMRS eargasm!
Love your videos, Randy, but I wanted to help out for your favorite listener. I have a Chinese friend who has been a ham operator for many many moons, and he instructed me on how to pronounce the brand-name. It is pronounced "WOUXUN". You're welcome
Do I need this radio? I am an Extra Class ham 30 years plus and just got the coveted NEW Extra Class Ham Pro license. License #12 from the FCC! Offered from the FCC by invitation only. Maybe GMRS for me👍 great video!
Yep. I got mine too. The amateur professional extra class license is unique in all the world. The only comparison I’m aware of is the Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament.
It will stalk you, hiding behind houses and cars, watching your every move. And when you least expect it, it attacks. There may be some momentary discomfort.
I really enjoy your commentary, great info. I just purchased this GMRS radio and would like to know if I can use it in Mexico. I have tried looking for the answer to this question with no luck, hopefully you have an answer. I greatly appreciate your time taken to read this post.
After finding that my tiny MXT105B was NOT repeater capable, I’ve been researching other mobile GMRS radios, and this one looks sexy. I’m interested… Edit: Update -- just bought this thing! What a sweet radio. A pain to install into a Ford Fusion, but it works well nonetheless.
Randy, a year later, is the KG1000G plus still your go to 50 watt mobile radio of choice? I’m about to build a base station and curious of your thoughts? If not, can you point me in another direction. Thank you!!
Great video NotaRubicon. I have a Yaesu FT991A "ham in a box" radio that I use a Yaesu M-70 desktop mic which has a 8 pin connector that with a converter cable can use an RJ-45 mic connector. The KG-1000G Plus can use the Wouxun MMO-005 desktop mic that also uses an RJ-45 connector. So here's the question: Could I use 2 Way RJ-45 box with an A/B channel selector and use my Yaesu M-70 desktop mic to transmit on my Wouxun KG-1000G Plus? ...this way I would only need one desktop mic. The reason I would like to be able to do this because I am C5/6 quadriplegic, and I have very little finger dexterity to be able to use the standard mic that comes with Wouxun. Keep the GMRS videos coming, your presentations are very informational and easy to follow. Thanks, OlyPenKid
I just pre ordered The KG-1000G Plus and The Wouxun magnetic mount and antenna as well as programing cable today thanks randy for all the videos helped me Choose what radio was best for me and my mobile offroad recovery and mechanic business.. @NotaRubicon Productions
Hi Randy, I bought the same radio and the same dummy load and the same SWR meters that you have and both tell me that I'm only pushing out at the very highest was 35 watts other wise it's 27-30 watts. I'm wondering if I am doing something wrong? I even bought the second SWR meter to check and make sure that wasn't the problem. Then I checked my GMRS 50x and only 30 watts on that radio too. So either I got two low wattage radios from two different companies or I got 2 bad SWR meters, oh and I made sure both radios were on High power. So I'm hoping that I'm just doing something wrong. Glen in Montana
Hi, I am new to your channel and I have to say I love your reviews. Have you done any reviews on the Rugged Radios GMR45? Thank you and keep up the awesome content.
OK I'm tired of reading the manual for the 10nth time. Where either in software or menu do i change the radio model showing on single side monitoring to my choice of call sign. Any advise / help appreciated.
I figured this out. If you are using the "non-plus" software then it won't show the option. I accidentally downloaded the wrong version of software. It's under the configuration settings called Area Message.
O great and wise Randy. If it would please you and Xenu, would you at your leave beseech the wizards at Wouxun to consider bringing forth their potent software in support of the noble Linux platform in addition to thy current Windows versions?
Two quick questions, although the programming software is updated does it retain enough compatibility to pair as a repeater with a previous 1000g? The 2nd question is it recommended to avoid the "Stun and Kill Function" if Starfleet issued you a red shirt?
Hi , new to transceiver . I own a wouxun 1000G plus . My computer is to old to support programming. I saw a sight were you talk through how to manually install repeater channels and maybe tones. This is more interesting to me. The manual is a little confusing since I am a newbie. Do you know were that sight is ? Most likely won't deal with split tones. I just read were someone with experience had trouble sent his radio back and they said nothing is wrong. He lowered his power from 50 watts to 20 watts and everything was ok .His repeater was not close.
OK, I have watched your videos on the Wouxun 1000G Plus, The Wouxun new 20 watt mobile radio, and the KG-935G. I am looking for an all around radio for powerful monitoring of Ham frequencies as well as transmission on GMRS. You have never mentioned the new Quanshang UV-R 50-2 while everyone else on RUclips seems to be saying it is the best all-around SHTF radio. If I buy wither the 1000G plus or the 20 watt variant from Wouxun, would I need to get the Quanshang to monitor all other Ham bands too? The Quanshang is also set for Aviation frequency monitoring..
Not really any step-up for GMRS radios from this one. A step down might be the Midland MXT500, the Wouxun KG-XS20G or the Radioddity DB-20G (or similar) mobile GMRS radios.
Thanks so much for the video! I am just getting started in radio. I want a radio for when I go off roading in my side by side. I used this review and some of your other mobile GMRS reviews and I decided to purchase this Wouxun KG-1000G PLUS radio. I have the radio, but now for the setup. My question is around the antennas and the cables. I have watched your antenna reviews and it appears the Midland antennas are the best for what I am looking for, but will it pare well with my new Wouxun KG-1000G PLUS or does it make more sense to pare a Wouxun radio with a Wouxun antenna? My second question is what coax cable should I buy to connect the radio to my antenna? Thanks again for all your fun videos! I have really enjoyed watching them and I better understand the GMRS world!
Antennas are brand-agnostic, so get the right 'type' of antenna based on your radio (GMRS, ham, etc).. I have used the same midland GMRS antenna with my KG-100G, and now with my much higher quality Motorola radio that i have. any UHF type coax will work fine.
Notarubicon ... I really like your videos. I have watched many of them. My wife and I recently bought a new jeep and we are planning to overland camp. I started watching your videos when I wanted to buy some form or HT radios and I have since bought two Wouxun 905Gs. Based on your reviews of the KG-1000G and the PLUS I'm likely to purchase one of these right away. My questions: which antenna would you purchase for this radio? I would like to mount the antenna on the back of the jeep and I don't have a roof rack, so which mount would you recommend? I'm not overly concerned with spending extra money to get it right the first time. Thank you for your time.
I don’t know if you’ll see this. If I have a ham radio in my truck with a mag mount antenna. And then of if I buy this with another mag mount antenna. Will there be any interference issues?
I have the non plus version and i dont see enough to make me buy another one in this redesign. Also still not sure if im happy with BTWR customer service as they have only replied to one of my emails asking for information.
silly people are going to spend 400 bucks on a radio that a 150 dollar one does pretty much just as well
Please leave a link to one of those $150, 50 watt, superheterodyne radios with a remote-mount faceplate so I can get one.
@@TheNotaRubicon you crack me up! 🤣🙏

Hi, I am new to your channel and I have to say I love your reviews. Have you done any reviews on the Rugged Radios GMR45? Thank you and keep up the awesome content.
Your style is awesome! Keep it up!
Thank You for your work, testing and info sharing, few of my friends & i have Zastone D9000 similar to KG1000+ . Thanks again. Martin B.
How does this one compare to the Midland MCT575? I’m looking mainly for Overlanding purposes.
They both have the same fars, so it boils down to which one has the features you prefer.
I love this guy...
OK I'm tired of reading the manual for the 10nth time. Where either in software or menu do i change the radio model showing on single side monitoring to my choice of call sign. Any advise / help appreciated.
You have to use the software to do that. IIRC its in one of the system/display setting options.
So, for a home base-station, the Midland MXT500 or the Wouxun KG1000G plus?
NEVER in my life have I EVER been so excited to hear.........................

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Can any of the Mobile GMRS radios be unlocked?

Hey Randy where in software did you write NotaRubi? Thank you in advance.
I figured this out. If you are using the "non-plus" software then it won't show the option. I accidentally downloaded the wrong version of software. It's under the configuration settings called Area Message.
I think Im goin with the plus
Any news on the KG 1000 plus with color screen???
O great and wise Randy. If it would please you and Xenu, would you at your leave beseech the wizards at Wouxun to consider bringing forth their potent software in support of the noble Linux platform in addition to thy current Windows versions?
Two quick questions, although the programming software is updated does it retain enough compatibility to pair as a repeater with a previous 1000g? The 2nd question is it recommended to avoid the "Stun and Kill Function" if Starfleet issued you a red shirt?
What sort of antenna would be recommended for this radio? Recommendations for a fixed base station and Mobile (car) solutions would be appreciated.
I use the Midland MXTA26 on my Jeep and the Tram 1486 antenna on the roof of my house.
Love this guy!
Here in Canada, there is no gmrs licence mandate but we are limited to 2 blistering watts.
COOL RADIO! THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP!!! WILL CHECK AND SEE IF I CAN BUY ONE HERE IN CANADA
Dont bother - you can't..
@@TheNotaRubicon BOOOOOOO!!! HA HA O WELL! THEM'S THE BRAKES!!!
YUP! :)
But will it make a sad ham out of a indifferent ham?
Hi , new to transceiver . I own a wouxun 1000G plus . My computer is to old to support programming. I saw a sight were you talk through how to manually install repeater channels and maybe tones. This is more interesting to me. The manual is a little confusing since I am a newbie. Do you know were that sight is ? Most likely won't deal with split tones. I just read were someone with experience had trouble sent his radio back and they said nothing is wrong. He lowered his power from 50 watts to 20 watts and everything was ok .His repeater was not close.
is the free downloadable software the same as is offered with the software/cable package that comes with an activation number ?
No, that is 3rd-party software.
So, being new to this, what would be a step up and step down from this radio? Respective prices?
Your help is appreciated greatly!
New subscriber!
Not really any step-up for GMRS radios from this one.
A step down might be the Midland MXT500, the Wouxun KG-XS20G or the Radioddity DB-20G (or similar) mobile GMRS radios.
Thank you for the information. I think I'm just going to dive in and get one. Gotta start somewhere!
@@TheNotaRubicon Thank you!!!
I use the Midland MXTA26 antenna mounted on my tailgate using a cheap tailgate mount. The MXTA26 is nice because it does not need any tuning.
@@TheNotaRubicon excellent! Thank you!!
Lmfao 😂😂😂 love the shirt Randy @NotaRubicon Productions
I don’t know if you’ll see this.
If I have a ham radio in my truck with a mag mount antenna. And then of if I buy this with another mag mount antenna. Will there be any interference issues?
Can you still pair 2 of the plus versions for building a repeater
I have the non plus version and i dont see enough to make me buy another one in this redesign. Also still not sure if im happy with BTWR customer service as they have only replied to one of my emails asking for information.
