What a great speaker and classy, intelligent man. He really makes musicians look great. Some other artists today, I won't name names, can really learn from him.
When Tom Snyder first referred to the band as 'the Heartbreaks', Tom Petty didn't say a word - anybody else would have corrected Snyder on the spot. It wasn't until the very end of the interview, when Snyder made the same mistake that Tom Petty, very casually, made the correction. That's class.
I love Tom Petty's music. I was raised on it. Massive respect for him in that he had the balls to try to keep his album prices and ticket prices affordable for his fans or whomever wanted to see him and the Heartbreakers play or hear his albums. I'm really saddened by his death but at least we still have the music.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that most of the rockers from the 60's and 70's, had a hell of a lot more substance than what we had in the 80's/90's. Both musically and intellectually!
He is such a sweet, articulate, genuine man, with a heartmelting smile and adorable wit too.... I can't stand how cute he is. Why oh why can't he be my age? :)
3:19 "It was just too much money to pay for a record, that's what I thought." I like how Tom gave it to them straight. The audience's applause says it all.
He's so awesome I want to be like Tom. His sincerity is refreshing, I admire that so much. (I've got Learning to Fly on in the background as I'm watching this and it goes really well).
Such a huge loss Sunday night as one of the very best singers, songwriters, artists to have ever lived, died. #TomPetty RIP You've been there with me through the 30some years of my life & you will be through your music until the end of my days! 🤘💔 #RIPTomPetty 10•20•50--10•2•17
I love Tom Snyder for playing dumb and asking great, challenging, and embarrassing, important questions that are clearly for the benefit of parents of the kids who were listening to rock music.
Yes he certainly did. And kept calling Petty "Thomas" all through the interview. Petty had had enough of Snyder calling his backup group "The Heartbreaks" and did correct him, towards the end of the interview segment.
@Dude30977 wrong. When ppl became famous back in the day, the didn't all leave their brains at the door. It was about fighting the system & having something to stand for. Now, too many ppl just want the money!
Tom said: "Hey Tom, look at that blonde girl there in the first row... please tell her after the show that she can visit me backstage in my dressing room... I´m too shy to ask..." (Of course the girl he meant was ME!!! :D )
@cowboysfan782008 i think its just the questions snyder is asking that make him seem that way. and its more what the audience on his show wants to hear probably. hes very smart i think but you only really see it in his music. he knows how people think and the little hang ups and things and how to make great music, you have to be smart for that

Its hard to believe that he was 31 here. He looked so much younger.
Julia Kopecka as if 31 is old.
Agree! OMG he looks like such a baby here!!! A gorgeous baby!!! God I love him. Still mourning his loss sooooo hard...😢😢💔
Little blonds look youthful.
Thomas and the Heartbreaks.
This was always my favorite interview of Tom's... Thank you for your music and I miss you so much.
A hometown boy who is grounded, musical genius and all around amazing. RIP Tom.

Tom Petty is enchantment, the derby hat will always belong to him. RIP to a great man with a wonderful band.
"I'm too lazy to jog, really. I'm gonna make it, I think."
Ohh, I love his little smirky smile.
Alaina McNeal he was so frickin cute. So low key. Such a dry sense of humor. God I loved him...😭😭💔
I dig how Tom Snyder doesn't even get the band's name right, and I love Tom's sense of humor.
3:19 "It was just too much money to pay for a record, that's what I thought." I like how Tom gave it to them straight. The audience's applause says it all.
R.I.P. Tom Petty and Tom Snyder. both giants in their respective fields.
He's so awesome I want to be like Tom. His sincerity is refreshing, I admire that so much.

ahhhhh....tom petty is the best!! i like him =) ...and of coruse the Heartbreakers!
Snyder was always known as a nice guy (& pretty hip, too!) , but did he really just introduce Tom as the leader of the "Heartbreaks" ? Lol!
Yes he certainly did. And kept calling Petty "Thomas" all through the interview. Petty had had enough of Snyder calling his backup group "The Heartbreaks" and did correct him, towards the end of the interview segment.
"Hey everything comes back" in just waiting for rock to comeback
1 of the best.
“We don’t play in Bathrooms much” 😂🤘🏽 #Savage
Great Video... wonder what tom told him after the show, when they were sticking their heads together
Ahh, gone too soon. RIP 😰❤️
@Dude30977 wrong. When ppl became famous back in the day, the didn't all leave their brains at the door. It was about fighting the system & having something to stand for. Now, too many ppl just want the money!
Say Thomas one more time seriously
I love TP's "playing in a bathroom" comment at 2:25! Zing! I'm thinking that TS wasn't big on Rock and Roll. What a square Daddy-O!
RIP Tom Petty.
2:12 Touche' !
I like how he calls him Thomas
That's not going out on a limb, that's speaking the absolute truth!

Tom Snyder is exhausting.
I hear Dan Aykroyd all over this interview. Anyone else?
2refinish Fair enough. I'll buy that...
2refinish ... Ackroyd's Tom Snyder spoofing were classic funny stuff!

He did. lolllllllll Not ONCE but twice.
"leader of the Heartbreaks"
@cowboysfan782008 TRUE! haha, 2 years later (:
Oh my god... Did he say "leader of heartbreaks" 😂
His name should be Tom Square, and I'm not talking about Petty
lmao at how he keeps calling him Thomas😂😂
RIP Tom Petty
Tom Snyder said leader of the heartbreaks. Funny.
Trop marrant "Heartbreakers ...KERS" hahaha
