Brought me to tears. Saw him in concert nine times over the years. He always came across as having an awesome sense of humor, and having a gently soul, always tapping that right foot. Almost felt like a personal friend lost. RIP Thomas.
Fantastic performance. Like all Tom Petty's fans I am experiencing a genuine sense of loss. I saw him just a few weeks ago in Berkeley and he and the band just exuded joy from the first minute to the last. The band and his family must be numb with shock and grief. I hope they can comfort from knowing how much pleasure he has given and will continue to give to so many.A musical treasure.
Love that TP & the HB live guitar tone. This fucking guy was incredibly talented. Wrote a mind-numbing number of hits. Thanks for 40 years of solid rock, RIP Tom Petty.
I remember watching this. I believe it was a Friday night in 1981 and recording the show on a cassette tape. I saw him live here in Vancouver on this tour. One of the BEST shows I have ever seen. the Fabulous T-Birds were supposed to open and could not get across the border for some reason so Tom did a 2 set show. An intermission in between. Awesome.
Allowing, even early on the path of greatness, the Heartbreakers to showcase the awesome talent of this band....Tom was and is special.......p.s. I will forever miss Stan...
Gee .... not the Kings Road I an used to hearing. No problem, though. tompettygoddess .... don't forget Howie. I love Ron Blair's bass work ... I do. But Howie was right there. Benmont said if it was a stringed instrument Howie could play it. High accolades. And, he sang great back-up for Tom. There is another vid of King's Road I am familiar with. Find it and check it out. It's far superior to this ... not the same at all. Howie plays an acoustic guitar and sings with Tom. It's very uplifting.
Have you ever seen that old SNL episode where Dan Aykroyd is playing Tom Snyder and he interviews Mick Jagger? That's all I can think of when I see a clip of Tom Snyder.

Ripping version. Whole band is on fire but Stanley is killing it!!!
Stan is just all over this. OMG. Pretty amazing!
He was always at his best in a live setting. Producers had issues with him in the studio, however.
Stan is a lot more imaginative in his playing. This whole performance is awesome!
Stan was a monster behind the kit. He just took their live playing to another explosive level and was an excellent harmony singer.
THAT IS TALENT, FRIENDS!

That's the shortest I've ever seen his hair.
Just heard the news of Tom's untimely death.
A great talent, gone too soon.
how did they do that break
LOL at Tom Snyder reading from cue cards...he doesn't know Tom Petty from Tom Jones...hahahahahahahaha...
oatstao Petty's current drummer, Steve Ferrone, also uses the traditional grip.
3:16 the "Clearmountain pause"

thinking of "King's Highway"?
Ouch!
what ever happened to Jones?
Is "copperfield road" a tribute to Petty,?? haha
No. Tom Snyder. The guy was an ass. Watching interviews with him were painful.
you make no sense.
