- Part 1 of the movie "ZOO." Released in 2007 and directed by Robert Devor, it is a documentary on the life and death of Kenneth Pinyan ("Mr. Hands"), who was killed in an accident involving sexual activity with horses. The movie also examines the lives of others who knew him, and participated in similar acts, along with the subject of zoosexuality as a whole.

I see a lot of comments about consenting, not consenting. About it being rape, not rape. About how a man couldn't possibly rape a horse unless it wanted to have sex too. I just have one thing to say. Zoophilia is not exclusive to horses. People who perform these acts do it to all kinds of animals. While you might think a horse is consenting to it because it is big, not fighting back, there are tons of cases of other animals being sexually abused and being severely injured, or even killed a consequence of the act. Smaller animals are screaming in pain from the abuse is certainly no consent, not ok. I don't see how anyone can support/defend this. Just sick!

This just makes me feel sick. Like I’m literally going to vomit. I don’t understand how someone could become sexually aroused by any animal…..I am not trying to be rude or judgemental, I just don’t understand how a person can look at animal and suddenly go from loving that animal in the “normal” way (as a companion and friend of sorts) to all the sudden feeling aroused. I physically cannot process this. My brain is just on overload right now. And what makes me feel even sicker than the thought of a human being being aroused by a horse(or any animal), is the thought of a human being actually carrying out the act of sex with a horse.

This docu seems to almost make excuses for these spiritually lazy people with no repentance and justification that such acts are love when in reality they are depravity for those spiritually too lazy or afraid to engage in healthy human relationships as we are created to. They make similar excuses as pedophiles do, whom call it love for their victims. I wished he'd repented and ceased what he was doing. Now he's dead He deserved it for sure but except for the grace of God...so don't we all. I don't celebrate anyone's death esp. leaving in such a painful way esp. for his family and son. I agree with nearly everything you say (of course that eating part which I specifically called out in my other comment). People do fear what they can't understand, however I wish to understand the psychology of a person who does such a thing. There are always animals that are being mistreated, they should be treated ethically (not pumped full of drugs to "enhance" them) and killed only for food (as painlessly and quick as possible) or in self-defense.

The movie, on balance, was not what it was cracked up to be. It wasn't even all that good of a documentary. Most of the "interviews" consisted of random thoughts of the perpetrators: who were basically being intentionally evasive of the actual details regarding the issues of concern or the activities being investigated.
I am disappointed that apparently somebody at the "Sundance" festival seemed to even think this program was "artfull". Dark, poorly focused, and badly lit camera shots on occasion contribute an "artful" sort of atmosphere to a film: but they do that basically by concealing details: to dupe the public into thinking an ENTIRE film utilizing those techniques is "artful" is ridiculous at best...and observably underhanded at worst. The photography in this program is doing nothing more than contributing to the evasive agendas and self-entitled attitudes of the perpetrators. The music was good...but that music was so skillfully done that it could provide compelling background "atmosphere" to almost any film. Similarly: the inclusion of many unrelated "still" shots (most of which were actually quite lovely) were often not conducive to presenting the topic....and were an obvious attempt at detracting the viewer from the fact that the actual TOPIC of this film was NOT being developed adequately enough at all. I'm all for pretty photography and camera work: but they do NOT tell the story that needed to be told in MUCH more DETAIL.
I compelled to consider the integrity of the "Sundance" festival....and to wonder exactly what people comprised the audience of this film....and who was actually doing the "voting". The "Sundance Film Festival" is now under scrutiny from me....and I am (for the first time) considering their standards and practices in judging films.
These "men" (and I use the term very loosely here) are masters of denial and distortion....and they will say anything to conceal their real objectives: they use animals for sex...and are willing to manipulate them and abuse them to do it. Animals can not intellectualize concepts enough to give "consent". Animals behaving instinctually to stimuli are NOT giving "consent"...they are being MANIPULATED. Animals that have been taught to comply with the wishes (and demands) of humans are not giving "consent"...they are merely complying with instructions as they have been taught to do with humans. COMPLIANCE TO MANIPULATION IS NOT CONSENT. RESPONDING TO INSTINCTUAL AND HORMONAL STIMULI IS NOT GIVING CONSENT. And a horse being tethered to the ceiling of his stall is while he is "BEING WORKED" is not giving consent....HE IS BEING RESTRAINED, CONTROLLED, AND MANIPULATED TO ENFORCE COMPLIANCE. THERE WAS NO "CONSENSUAL" SEX HERE....THERE IS NO "CONSENSUAL" SEX INVOLVED IN THE SEXUAL ABUSE OF ANY ANIMAL.
These animals are being abused for the selfish purposes of "people" who have warped thought processes, aberrant behaviors, and poor impulse control. We are ALL (as adult humans) responsible for our behaviors and choices....we all must consider matters of "right and wrong" and choose our behaviors....and we need to utilize impulse control when thoughts of inappropriate behaviors arise....and we are (or should be) responsible for our choices in life as well. While we do, on occasion, receive consideration from others regarding "circumstances"...those considerations are reasonably provided ONLY WHEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES WARRANT CONSIDERATION. There was no such reason to provide "benefit of the doubt" regarding the actions of these men. These "men" were not interested at all in whether their choices were "right or wrong"...they simply wanted to have sex with animals. Period. To imply otherwise is a fallacy. They were actively covert in achieving their goals....and they cared not a whit about what the consequences of their behavior might be beyond them being sexually satisfied. They had no concern about the impact on others of their behavior...or the ripple effect their actions could quite reasonably cause. THESE "MEN" SIMPLY WANTED TO HAVE SEX WITH A HORSE". PERIOD. When their activities were discovered: they were quick to conceal their involvement via evasiveness or denial....and rather than own up to the consequences of their choices: they instead wanted to portray that they were somehow "victims". THEY WERE NOT VICTIMS: THEY WERE GROWN MEN WHO MADE ACTIVE AND INTENTIONAL CHOICES ABOUT THEIR BEHAVIOR.
So...I've seen the film now. I have witnessed for myself what all the "hub-bub" is about. On some level, I was hoping to gain some sort of insight or at least understanding....perhaps some explanation that made this all seem reasonable.....but alas: there was nothing reasonable to be found. There was only pure folly, detrimental behaviors, and devastation.
The notes at the end of the film were valuable, however. I congratulate Washington State on making the perpetration of sexual assault and abuse on animals a felony. It is my hope that all states will adjust their legal system and laws in this manner as well. I have learned that Canada has strict legal consequences for this situation as well....good for them!!!!
Let the punishment fit the crime....and throw the book at these selfish bastards.

Adult, sexually mature animals aren't kids, so that's a failed analogy. Zoos would be less likely to misinterpret signals, since 1) they would tend to know a lot more than the layperson about their animal of choice, and 2) signals are very direct and clear - hooves to the face, pinned ears, plenty of ways to say 'no'.

I know, it seems I am ranting, but I am merely pointing out the hypocrisy of which the zoosexuals call everyone else ignorant. I am for zoosexuality as much as I am for pedophilia...I am not. Cliche; however, people keep saying that animals are like children, in that they cannot readily defend themselves or comply with a consent. People feel a need to be responsible for an animal. We may be animals, but is that ANY excuse for some of the things we do such as this, war, cheating, or bullying?

The second part, the answer would still be no. Domesticated animal behavior toward humans is trained and learned. "Implied consent" could be misinterpreted, after all, body language is not concrete within humans, most cannot tell what someone is thinking, what makes people think they can tell what the animal is projecting through body language? If "implied" is the case, is it implied consent that animals are pets, property that is owned.
