Life is short. Don't feel bad over a fake income statement. In fact, it's good work.

P&L is propably the most important report in the business world. I wonder, why Microsoft didn't adress this issue properly. At the very least they should add more formating options to matrix, such as the ability to put subtotal labels below a group of rows instead of an extra row above.

I agree... there are several easy enhancements that would take the matrix visual farther in the the right direction.

A tip: watch movies on flixzone. I've been using it for watching a lot of movies these days.

FYI; You can use the Financial Reporting Matrix custom visual for Power BI to create this type of income statement very quickly without having to resolve to faking.

i have looked at the older versions of it and found it lacking some key features... i should probably take a look at the latest version and see how well it works now

above method is better than the matrix for beginners

You can draw similar length lines by using different number of spaces after each one.

Thank you for this article. It in fact is a lot of pain. We have close 30 -40 measures on our PnL. Formatting aside, I am able to put all those measures as rows in matrix visual and plot time dimension and scenario type (Actual or Forecast) on columns. My current dilemma is how to plot the variance between Actual and Forecast? The "Subtotal" on matrix gives me total but I need difference :(. Any idea or workaround regarding it?

You might be able to use Calculation Groups, but even then, it will not give you the perfect control over the look and feel of the grid, but it might get you closer. Here is a video that I did that might help some: ruclips.net/video/pk8-x60UbM4/видео.html

i have looked at it a couple of months ago, i don't believe that this control allows you to mix and match %, $ and volumes all in the same column for different types line items. I will probably do a full review later

@@KnowledgeBankPro so if we don't have the & % issue it will work perfectly right?

@@islam48ify think it might work better than a regular table, but i think a table plus calculation groups might work even better
