Bas I love you man! You saved me a ton of times! I wanted to work for you but then I realize that "okay, who am I gonna copy for my work?". Thanks man!!!
This has been a major pain point for me in Powerbi! My solution was to create a crosswalk of shortened/abbreviated category names to get the whole value to fit in a barchart, but I like this solution much better. Its very clean and easier to maintain (ie, in my solution I'd have to watch for new categories appearing to create a new abbreviation). Thank you for your videos, you always have such creative workarounds to the limitations in PBI.
Hi, thanks for the video ! Instead of creating measure for custom label for Subcategory, we could directly put Subcategory field in custom labels. This helps in not showing special characters issue like - &.
Hi Bas! Just want to say a deep thank you for all the videos you have been posting. I am trying to watch all of them haha, quite challenging but out of each one, you teach me some very nice visualization tricks for the monthly KPI report I am doing and different powerBI tools I designed for operation (I work in logistics). Your out of box thinking is really amazing and something I cannot find elsewhere. Please keep up the good work like always and bear in mind each video you released benefit so much people out in the world that you can’t possibly imagine❤
Excellent presentation. Very clear and easy to understand and follow. My challenge is how can you make the labels dynamic. For example if there was more than 1 field in the bar chart and you used the drill down filter how could you get the the labels to also change.
Again, another amazing video I stumbled on trying to make my bar charts better looking! Idk if I couldn't follow along well enough but it looks like the latest versions of PBI no longer have the custom labels feature you demo'd at 4:23. Regardless, amazing video thank you so much for the guidance!!!
Amazing ! You are giving a new vision your dedication toward Community Unremarkable .Your content take me to next level in power Advance Journey. However One concern I have checked in power bi service level Custom label not displaying the Labels for this scenario if you have any workaround pls do let me know.
This has helped me massively, thanks! Just one question, maybe someone has already asked it. If i have a drill down on a bar chart, is there a way to switch the labels to show the lower level category names?
This looks great! I’m trying to get this to work in combination with fileld parameters. The user can then choose the column on the axis and the label shows the names. I cannot get this to work. Maybe something for a future video 😅
Great tutorial and awesome usage of measures and nuances of Power BI. On the other hand it is crazy that UI change that should be 2 clicks away, natively in Power BI, requires 15 minutes tutorial to implement.
Great video Bas! This makes the chart neat. Unfortunately, I got lost @5:55. I can't see these padding and width that you adjusted. I am only seeing 'Space between categories' which is not enough to make the labels look ok 😔
This is cool! However, you can simply add a Category name to the X-axis beside Sales (X-axis will contain both) and keep the Category name in Y-axis then enable Custom label = Category name, and finally enable total label, and with some tweaking it will work
If you dont need drillthrough or custom tooltips, the horizontal barchart custom visual is easier for this approach. You can switch from hammer head, lollipop, line... But nice content, very usefull :)
Finally the old excel features are showing up. Great video, would have loved to see the interaction with other visuals, whether they mess up or not. Probably not, but I just have urge to test. Thanks Bas.
Another amazing work. However, the labels do not work properly if I want to see Year To Date bar chart and filter by different month. Can you look into this problem? or there is no way we can do with that?
Thanks for this, very insightful. I tried it for one of my reports and it worked, am trying to do same again and I can't navigate the custom label in the data label value section, its not there anymore, is there another way to navigate through this.

Hi Bas, first of all very nice video. Quick suggestion from your end. If I have a hierarchical bar chart with different data once I drill down how can I make it works? What I have in mind is defining a measure which first check the data and then define the selectedvalue() to be displayed on top to the bar. Something like: If data(1) then selectedvaue(x) else if data(2) then selectedvalue(y) etc. Do you have a way forward. Thanks a lot

Great video. It’s a real shame that Microsoft isn’t investing time and money into improving visuals. This is a very basic feature imo that should come out of the box. If you look at some of the out of the box features that come with datadog (I understand that’s a monitoring tool but it’s still a data visualisation tool) it really highlights how behind Microsoft are in visualisation.
