Love the way how you hacked green vs red when there's no FX button. I did the same for a YOY change bar chart combined with Calculation groups - one group only calculated the negative values and the other calculated the positive ones. So 2 item used in the bar chart visual and now I could set CG1 to red and CG2 to green.
The Power BI design master. No idea how you figure these things out but exceptional as always. Everything worked perfectly except the negative data label on the constant line. Mine returns to the positive side. I'll keep playing with it to figure out where I failed. As always, thanks so much, Bas.
What a fantastic chart Bas - now my most favourite chart of all. I'm looking to replace so many column and bars with this. If anyone is interested, I have replaced the circle icons with ▼ for neg and▲ for pos. Whilst there is only actually one triangle ▲ icon available, place the the neg measure into the lower bound (see video point 7:30). Now the chart will compensate either for rows or for columns. Thank you so much for this Bas
That was a brilliant solution, I'm in the process of incorporating it into my reports. A question, do you have an idea how to change the deviation in chart 1 to relative?
I love that you demonstrated this new feature as I didnt know about the error bars. That said, I dont know if this is so practical in a business setting where charts tend to be more dynamic. Seems to be way too much input just for one chart and possibly a hassle to troubleshoot if one of the measures buried in the error bars is faulty. But I'll explore it. Thank you.
That's amazing. I have a question. if instead of Product I have Slice by 3 differents like Products, brand and category and I want the line be relative as well when we choose from Slice by how we would change the formula on Variance instead of Product column?
Hi Bas, thanks for this awesome vid. I have a problem aligning the negative label to the left just like yours. It goes to the right along with the positive label.
Thanks for this great idea - I can't figure out how to get the error bars working from the constant centre line, or any constant line for that matter. Any thoughts on why that might not be working for me?
Awesome Bas, as always! I'm wondering if it's possible to include outliers in the box plot chart maybe as dots instead of using the max/min as 0.95/0.05 percentile! Do you think could be useful or not for the box plot chart?
Excellent contribution and thanks for the resource. I was reviewing the file and when I select the year 2020 and a category the following happens 1) when I select a year and a category, one or more negative lines overlap the bars of the current value and I don't know how to prevent them from overlapping 2) Is there any way to dynamically adjust and overlap neither the lines nor their labels on the bars of the current value? I would greatly appreciate your contribution
Great job! I'm always amazed by your creativity! I'm not sure how did you managed to set the left label (for the first chart) in place. If anyone has the same problem, I subtracted a small amount from the formula for the left label (such as 5% of the "Revenue Variance Center")
I had that same problem! Selecting Outside End placed the label on top of the bar. So frustrating. I can't say exactly how I resolved it, as there was a lot of try this, that, and the other...But the end solution uses Inside End as the position. I feel like doing just that didn't do the trick. I toggled the transparency of that bar from 100% to
Got my chart in! Looks TOP NOTCH! I can control the hover over effect by turning off the tool tips or adding a tooltip page, but , Any suggestions on how to handle all the Placeholder data when you right click "Show as Table"
that's awesome 🎉🎉 I don't think there is a good solution for that just yet. You could hide it, but I guess you still want it but just without the dummies
Please please help. Power Query. Somewhere I saw you can get a result in a step, then export that result to another query, come back to this query and ref the step before "exporting" and carry on with the current query.
Hey there, I think I've done this before. The trick was instead of the query being a query end product, you convert it to a list. Removing the starter stuff like Let... and the In stuff at the bottom I think will achieve this. You then have a list that allows you to reference any of the steps in another query.
Hello, I have a problem with the values, due to the great difference in the variation, they overlap the bars. However, try changing the number that is multiplied by 1.75 to 3.25 and so on, they continue to overlap, any ideas? greetings
Can we do this for current vs Previous, I am trying the same but I am only getting previous month info only example Feb data only not the difference between Jan and Feb
In a slicer visual we search for a keyword in the result we get 10 or 20 , results how can we select all the results in a single click. Is there any possibility to do that??
Wow the click tax is insane - and he got every single one correct. The average user is clicking on every second sub menu trying to find the right place to make a formatting change.
Looks cool but the rendering the visual took really long for me. It's not the case when I use the same measures without the lollipops. Also creating the visual took some time, I wish powerbi just add these options efficiently and easily as core visuals.
There's no doubt these look great, but for a large enterprise with a thin report setup it's totally impractical to have this many measures required for one visual. In my case I have a model that serves 120 reports, this model naturally already has 1000's of measures. Do you have any visual best practice guides which account for these instances?
Just different layout for the formatting options. I have under preview ob object formatting on. In your layout it is on de analytics tab right next to formatting
same technique .. if you want to have different colors you could still add another dummy that conditionally shows for a certain category in a different color
This youtube channel does not talk about power bi, it's all about magic

thank you! a fx button would have been nice though 😅😁
Awesome Bas! Nice method of setting the bar chart 🔥
😎👊
New hands on Power BI, Your Tips have actually being a great inspiration. You do pure Magic there.

awesome, thx for watching Paul
Thanks, Bas! Had NO idea that Feb 2024 update snuck it in there. 😀 Miguel has been keeping himself busy, I see! 😉
visual calculations were getting the spot light this month lol ;)
Brother, I love you videos🥰
Superb work!!! This will be used on next assignment, much appreciated!!
Brilliant :) Power BI's Viz options are catching up to Tableau's beautiful Viz designs
slowly getting there 😀
Awesome Bas ! By setting up a new chart using error bars, I am becoming a big fan. You have created a very nice visualization
Hey Bas, thanks alot for this amazing tutorial, I was wondering if there a way to add a variance % on the reference line?
another incredible one from the Guru
😊😊😊 thank you
Awesome Bas, I have been waiting for these from ages.
That was a brilliant solution, I'm in the process of incorporating it into my reports. A question, do you have an idea how to change the deviation in chart 1 to relative?
Bas your creativity is insane! Thanks for sharing.
Wow, nice timing, I am literally just now trying to add a dumbell chart. This new functionality is awesome, thanks for the very useful vid
ah perfect, especially for you a timed it like this 😋😉

Useful on projects im working, bet for most others here too

hat off = amazing Bas!
this video is very perfect!!! thank you
Wonderfully incredible. I wonder how many hours you spend figuring out these tricks. Congratulations on the work!!!
thank you! this was actually a quick one, cause I was waiting for it to be there one day lol ( some others take me a looooot of time )
@@HowtoPowerBI Wow 🤯
Thank you for all the great tips and also thank you for wearing that shirt! 😍
Awesome. I’m slowly learning with your contents as beginner.
why not fast 😋 .. awesome, happy to be part of your learning journey
Amazing work Bas!! Love your workarounds and little "hacks" for PBI 😊
Thanks! 😀
as always very helpful videos , really liked it 👍
p.s. when you first said ERROR BARS, I was like what is ARAB BARS ? 😅
Yea i m trying to promote my new product arab bars ;)
Which visualisation u r using , in my Power bi Pro i am not able to see reference line option and many others also ? Please advice
Hi Bas, thanks for this awesome vid. I have a problem aligning the negative label to the left just like yours. It goes to the right along with the positive label.
Awesome! Other than Power bi, I want to learn "Editing" from YOU!!!
🙏 thanks , maybe for a different channel lol
i'm using PowerBI Version: 2.128.1380.0 64-bit (April 2024). There is NO SUCH OPTIONS as REFERENCE LINE underneath Plot Area Background.
I have updated to current version still for me reference line option is not showing
it s on the analytics tab for you (right next to formatting) .. or you turn on on object under preview options and it looks the same as mine
Amazing lesson. Thanks heap.
Glad you liked it!
how ever, great video y content , just a question, it can do it , adding the var % , another vertical line side by side?
Anyone figure out how to make the colors dynamic for the error bar circles in the second example?
excellent content man! as always
Appreciate it!
can this work in "line and clustered column chart"?
nice trick. bravo. thank you for sharing
😊 thx
Amazing, such a creative approach to take advantage of every new features release
Do you have similar content also for Tableau?
Excellent 🎉thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you! Cheers! 😊

It's a shame that "Reference Line" selection yet to be added to Power bi in Australia! :(

awesome! thanks for great content . one question: how do show outliers with this trick of yours
what if the variance (Revenue Actuals CY vs PY ) has negative value? how will the error bars be shown or be adjusted/modified to show correctly?
Awesome Bas!

awesome!

So smart. Nifty
thanks!!
Amazing! excellent way to show the variances without showing them in a typical table... I am going to apply them shortly. Thanks for all you share!
Now I am going to change few graphs of my customers and my boss would be wow 😂😂
:p and was the reaction as you hoped for lol 😁😊
Nice!!
thanks! 😊
All those dummy measures could be declared with the new feature in the visual or there are some limitations?
the visual calculations? yes, that would work!
The reference line option is not seen in my power bi
Go to the analytics tab or turn onobject formatting on to have the same menu latout
@@HowtoPowerBI got it .thnks
How did you get that pop up dialog box that shows the emojis? The one you used to create the delta triangle? Is that a native keyboard shortcut?
Windows key + . (Period)

hello! New to power bi and I wanted to say even though I have the new update I can't find the Reference line

turn on object on under preview options .. or go to the analytics tab to add a constant line

maybe try zebra bi cstom visual , easier to create a chart like this one .. not a native visual though
Hey Bas, how did you create the Metrics folder on its own? - 1:43

Tableau in trouble 😂😂😂
Please make a clustered box plot with this new feature
same technique .. if you want to have different colors you could still add another dummy that conditionally shows for a certain category in a different color
When you go with first chart the amount of workarounds applied gave me headache :D
Lol 😂. Its the same trick though, applied 10x
Bas tu devrais te faire embaucher par Microsoft Design !
merci! Je ne sais pas cependant si c'est quelque chose auquel j'aspire ;)

☺️
i love you
Perfect,
Thank you!!!!😊
Awesome Bas!
thank you!
Where is the overlap now? Can't see it anymore in bars layout
how should the data be structured for this
Awesome 👌

The trick enhancess the visual appeal of Power BIdashboardsh creativity! Thanks
Great! But guys at ZebraBI probably are not gonna be happy. They have been selling those visuals for years.
thanks! aaah still not as easy to get their as with their visuals. don't think they r too worried yet
