    I've purchased the V30+, I'm actually using it more than my original Pixel XL now. Loving everything about it but the skin. So yes I've put Nova launcher on it. I highly recommend this phone to others.
    (Update: no more Nova launcher on mine. I have side loaded the Pixel 2 launcher itself from the play store for the LG. Working flawlessly. Downloaded all Android stock apps. Uninstalled or disabled the bloat ware that's installed)

      SpecialXperienZ Bian all the above that you are asking about is great as mentioned in this video. The downside is the speaker. That it's only gripe about this phone. And is had a headphone jack so it makes up 100x with that.

    Well this video differently made me more comfortable in my buy.... Been watching reviews almost decided to take back the V30 for S8 plus but I think the v30 has found a new home permanently! I had the v20 for awhile awesome phone! I decided to trade it in for the v30 for one reason only! The size of the v30 is almost dam near perfect! Fits inside my front pocket with ease cause for awhile there I would stick the v20 in my back pocket with a case on kinda of got tired of that... So yeah V30 thumbs up! Also I'll be getting the Google daydream as part of the v30 promotion which certain US carriers are doing... LG just approved my submission now I play the waiting game

      The Game of... / Digital-To-Analog converter.
      It's a component that changes digital signals(audio source) to analog(waves), so speakers&earphones could receive properly.
      The better DAC, the better audio quality.

    Still rockin my V20 and will definitely pick up the V30 for spring when it price drops since other phones will be announced then. Very good phone all around. Cant nit pick this high quality phone too much. Phones will always have something another doesnt adn vice versa. One thing will be added that either makes it better or worse same goes when something gets taken out *cough* headphone jack.... V30 is a nice phone. I have a V20, I think I mine is defective. Shattergate(phone was never dropped or bumped before this time), boot loop and screen bleed. All the reported issues in one. LG have finally acknowledged the fault and they are going to repair the device under warranty, but only after I emailed the MD. They are fetching my phone to repair this week under warranty. Kinda off putting, considering going back to Huawei Mate series or trying One plus maybe.

    I picked one up the day it came out in the states. Why did I get one. While I use the camera a lot, I listen to music more. The V30 has first-class audio from a great DAC (digital audio converter), intuitive controls for manual still and video shots, a lovely screen, that has solid performance and battery.
    LG provides a soundscape, through its headphone jack, second to none. It also provides stellar Bluetooth audio through aptX HD (with the right headphones). No one denies their superior sound. Their camera is a more complicated package. There are few cameras that can take better shots when care is taken and you're in manual mode. Automatic quick shots are not as strong - middle of the flagship pack. The front-facing "selfie" camera, however, is weaker; it's towards the bottom of the pack.
    My screen looks great. Yes, there is blue tint when viewed from an angle but I don't view it that way. Blacks are solid and colors pop. Some have complained about low-light uneven or grainy presentation. It doesn't seem to present itself to me, but I rarely go in a dark room and stare at a blank white screen scrutinizing for unevenness. The battery lasts me through fairly heavy use, with juice to spare. It's extending even further with wireless charging. (Just don't leave it on a charger all night).
    I changed the launcher to Smart Launcher and put on a different icon them (smoke and glass). Looks great and works smoothly

One correction: the v30 always on display WILL tell you which song is playing, the top part of the time readout will slide to show a utility menu you can toggle features from (flashlight, wifi, Bluetooth, launch camera, ect) and then also a media controller if you have an app setup to utilize it. It's really a smart design, one I love.

      Kevin Ramos yeah it does but I should tell you, I'm now on my 3rd device because of screen uniformity and banding issues. I'm about to get my fourth and if it's just as bad I'm going with the note 8. This is honestly my favorite device ever, but for 800 dollars these issues aren't acceptable.

      Update. I kept returning the ones they sent me. They finally told me they had been sending refurbs that probably were returned originally for the screen. Made them send a brand new one. The box had a manufactured date of 11/17....and perfect! Screen uniformity is dead on, no banding at all, or light blotchiness. So, if you can make sure you get one manufactured after October, I think they worked it out. I am very happy now. Thought you'd like to know.

    I have G6 and I gotta say that power on button being the fingerprint scanner is extremely addictive. Now I subconsciously try to turn the screen off on other phones by pressing it too xD And by the way, if you think it's extremely impractical to have to pick up your phone every time you want to turn the screen off, you can also turn it off by double tapping the upper bar with battery and cellular signal info on the display. It's actually even more practical than having to press a button on the side because this way you don't even have to hold the phone, you just double tap on the display. Right now there's only one phone I'd change my G6 for and that's V30. I just hope Oreo comes soon, LG will get rid of their outdated UI (I'm using Nova Launcher too) and G6 will get updated camera app so it is more similar to V30's.

    I'm considering the V30 alongside the HTC U11+. But I might go for the U11+ because of the stereo speakers, since I've grown accustomed to that kind of speaker setup from my last three phones. And Pixel 2 XL is out of the question, since Google won't release the phone in my country.

  • @JDFHK
    @JDFHK 7 лет назад

    I've had this phone for a week and it has everything I could want. 3.5mm jack with industry leading sound using a Quad DAC comparable to DAPs, military grade build, water/dust proof, perfect form factor in my hand, comparatively lightweight compared to other 2017 flagships, excellent camera with wide angle lens and a wealth of features, solid battery life that lasts a whole day with heavy use, OLED screen with vivid colours and strong blacks, flagship CPU/GPU which are super snappy, microSD slot, FM radio, wireless/fast charging, Bluetooth 5.0, always on display...
    The only issue is the front facing camera but then I never take selfies.
    Love, love, LOVE this phone.
    Pair this with a quality player like Neutron, enable 64-bit processing, hi-res codec and audiophile resampling in settings, then buy a decent set of headphones and YOU, ARE, GOD!
    I smirk everytime I see a Sammy/Apple user listening to headphones in the street. Sheep. ;D

    Liked the video as always. I was reeeally into the V30 when every RUclipsr received the pre production unit and I spent so much time reading about it and all.. then the Pixel 2 and 2 XL came out.
    I ordered the Pixel 2 XL and I am getting it on Monday so I can't wait. I come from a Nexus 6P and have really come to enjoy the stock Android experience (except the really shitty battery life on the 6p). +TechnoBuffalo the V30 can tell you what song is playing like the pixel 2 on the lock screen. People don't know about it. It have (Auto Shazam) it's in the notification panel. Hit edit in the panel and you should see it.

    • @Basically_a_nobody
      @Basically_a_nobody 7 лет назад +1

      Michael Smith Yeah.. buts it's not the same as the Pixel 2. I have the exact same feature on my Galaxy S7 Edge and as you said, it's in the notification panel. Which isn't a big deal but it takes away the practicality or convenience of it, not like the way it's Incorporated in the Google Pixe 2.
      On the Pixel, it'll tell you automatically whenever it detects music in the background. On every other phone it takes actually activating it each time you want to use it which quite honestly takes away from the whole point of it being "automatic" and I think makes most people forget that it's there.

    • @MikeAudiS5
      @MikeAudiS5 7 лет назад +1

      Ronaldo López your talking about the Shazam app were you hit the button to detect music. The one in the V30 is built in like it is on the pixel 2xl. It automatically detect music until you turn it off. The one on the pixel 2XL is powered buy Shazam as well. Plus the Galaxy s7 edge doesn't have that feature built in

    My s8 display burned in three months after purchasing it.
    Also the s8 was an ergonomic nightmare. The stupid Bixby button and the bezeless display were always a bone of contention.
    I bought the v30 a couple of weeks ago from my provider here in Toronto.
    So far it's been the best phone I've ever used. The Quad DAC really is all they say and more.
    Hopefully, the burn in issues won't surface on this device.
    I'm still waiting on this.
    Also, it's an absolutely gorgeous phone.

      I don't mind the carrier logo. Never bother me. I put a case on it all the time anyway. Personally I rather have logo because when I buy phones from third party or second hand I want to know if that phone belong to that carrier. There are way too many scammer claiming the phone will work for that carrier but in actuality the phone belong to a different carrier. Therefore logo helps to identify what phone belong to what carrier

    As a previous owner of G4.
    For me, the problem with LG's phones is that there is no support at all. If you change phones every year then yes, it is an amazing choice. But if you want to have something for 2 to 3 or even 4 years like most people do, then I would never recommend it... They have issues with bootloops, screen, batteries (sometimes not always) and they never get updated frequently enough.. leaving them 2 generations of Android behind sometimes.
    It is sad really, because I like their phones and cameras so much, but after the LG4 experience I'll never touch this company again :/

    • @feliciasbeard
      @feliciasbeard 7 лет назад +6

      tzouzi I did for a week, got the g6. The g4 in straight comparison shots has a better camera. Took it back and told them what I thought of it, showed comparisons, gave them the nitty gritty like the message app not being "able" support gifs... The phone is hot trash. Never again LG.

    • @feliciasbeard
      @feliciasbeard 7 лет назад +3

      tzouzi had sim in my note 4, with its shit ram management, that was almost exactly 3 years old to the day... perfect decision to show the power of real flagship capabilities. 3 years old, downloaded g board, it sent gifs.

    I've had my V30 for 4 weeks now.
    I spoke to a representative at my carrier store before I bought this about what they thought about it. Turns out, a few people who bought it from the store returned it in the initial two week trial period. I asked him their reasoning for doing so.
    One thing this review did not mention was actually one of the primary reasons why people took it back: the noticeably flawed display. Not in terms of color, battery use, or glitches, but rather the consistency of the display pixels. It was mentioned in other reviews that, in many pre- and post-release devices, the V30 had noticeable dark bands running long ways on the display on low brightness. This especially happens when either white or grey is the color on the display. This is being attributed to a lack of uniformity in the pixels to replicate the correct shade and brightness of nearby pixels. I was surprised to learn that people found it bad enough to take it back, and I almost didn't buy the phone.
    I'm glad I didn't listen to those people. The entire rest of the phone is flawless except for the selfie camera quality. In more ways than one, this phone has better features than the S8+. The battery life is fantastic. If you can get over the silly fuss people made about the display, you'll enjoy this phone. It will not affect your user experience.

    Great balanced review on the LG V30. Too many REVIEWERS unduly bash LG phones to push their "preferred" flagships. Oh and I'd rather have a LIGHTER PHONE than a stone in my pocket. It's more cutting edge to give top notch performance & specs with components that are light than heavy! So only part of the review I disagree with.

  • @WindowsAndMacintosh
    @WindowsAndMacintosh 7 лет назад +66

    Again, the Pixel 2 XL is not BASED OFF OF the LG V30. They just use the same screen. They're very different devices with different components. Just because LG put it together and it has an LG screen from the V30 does not make it a V30-based device. They have different audio tech, different internal designs, different batteries, and more. The Pixel 2 XL isn't modular internally like the LG V30 is. The Pixel 2 XL is IP67 and the V30 is IP68. The Pixel 2 XL has Active Edge, no LG phone ever before has had that technology. There are far more differences than similarities. The V30 has a lot more features but the Pixel 2 XL has the greatest software experience.

      Yeah. Except that Google managed to spill garbage on one of the best displays available in the smartphone world. And they removed the jack. I have seen this phone in September on different sites and I was in love, I truly wanted one. After two months of wait and search, I have decided to buy the LG G6 and I do not regret it (price somewhere around 360 €). I was patiently waiting for the G6 when it was announced but the version sold in my country didn't have the quad dac nor the wireless charging so i decided to skip it and wait for the v30 which at launch had me sold. Sadly it has now been almost 3 months since the v30 was revealed and it still hasn't officially been released in my country and my patience finally ran out. I will probably be buying a new phone pretty soon. But, for some weired reason, LG decided not to bring this thing to India soon. So, I don't actually know if they'll be launching it soon or not cause I don't want to waste my money on other less feature rich flagships. Photos & Videos are really important to me. I think LG has done a great work with the V30 but, their policy in India kinda sucks.

    I find it a bit too big for my taste (for me, the ideal size would be the iPhone 6(s, 7, 8), the LG G6, the Sony Xperia compacts or the Pixel 2. The price is a bit steep too, but that will certainly change. The main reason I would buy it is of course the cameras. Ultra-wide is way better than telephoto, and the quality is incredible.

Only pitfalls are not great low-light cameras and slight screen discoloration, seems to be a common issue with all OLED screens.

    The way this phone was developed is so that any shock from falls usually gets mitigated towards the back of the phone, this is also why the weight feels so odd because they organized the internals in a way that helped with this. Another reason they did it like this is that the backplate is a much cheaper to replace, according to Jerryrigeverything somewhere between 10-30 bucks and not hard to do by yourself.

    I've had this phone for about two months and absolutely love it. Previously, I had a Motorola Droid Turbo 2 which also has an OLED screen. I looked at the LG G6, but passed on it because there is a definite difference between OLED and LCD. Don't get me wrong, the G6 has a beautiful screen for what it is and very well priced. But for me, going from OLED to LCD was too big a step down. The screen on the V30 is absolutely gorgeous. While the S8 is very nice, I really didn't like the feel of it in my hand. It just felt it was too small and slippery. The V30 in my opinion just felt more substantial in my hand. I do have a clear CubeVit case on the V30 for protection while still allowing me to enjoy the look of the phone. I'm a clumsy guy, so putting a case on a glass phone was a no brainer and I have already dropped this phone several times, including onto a tile floor. Not a mark on it. I'm not sure what the big deal is about LG's software. It's just not that big a deal to me. It's functional and LG does allow for some interesting customization using the included themes. Additional themes are also available from the LG website. Also, there is not a ton of bloatware pre-loaded on this phone. I have used launchers in the past to customize my phones. I have found that no matter how good they are, they are all memory and power hogs. With this phone they are simply not needed.

I had a Galaxy S3 for four years and it always served me well. Upgraded to the G6 nine months ago, and I plan to get another 3 years out of it. If LG keeps this up, they should have a top-of-the-line flagship on the market by then.

    I have been using this device for about five months now and i am really liking this LG V30 coming from Motorola moto z's line up i did have a choice to go with the Lg V40 I just liked the way this phone felt in the hand and I did not like the notch at the top of the V40 battery life is good for all day long with a little bit to spare... Good job on the review!

    Skipped it for the pixel 2 xl. Front facing speakers, better camera and aluminum body are what sold me on it.

      aluminum body? lmao, then that means no wireless charging, and the way the front of the phone looks especially the display is wack as fuck

      Nicholas Jeremy I haven't used the jack on my nexus 6 in over a year so it wasn't a big deal for me.

      djJames only used the wireless charging on my N6 to solve the problem when my micro USB port broke so I can live without it.

    I really appreciate all your work in these reviews, but why aren't basic (but important) features like call quality, reception and security updates covered in most phone reviews?

      Here is what the Pixel 2 offers:
      Best software experience? Yup
      Best camera? Yup
      Best support? Yup
      I used to care about hardware, but I couldn't stand the crappy software from Samsung and LG anymore.

    I've been with the LG family since I started college in 2013. LG G2, Stylo, V10 and now V30. It was worth it.

    This phone literally only lacks front facing stereo speakers to be the perfect phone.

    So I had a terrible time choosing between the LG V30 and the Pixel 2 XL. Unable to choose, I went ahead and grabbed both. They are both awesome phones, and if I could take the parts of each that I love and put them into one phone, viola! the perfect phone IMO.
    That getting said, I use the V30 as my daily driver primarily due to the wireless charging. I have a holder in my car that has wireless charging built in, and that stole the show as far as my needs.
    The features in both are comparable...I agree that the LG skin is not my favorite; stock Android takes the cake on this one. Camera wise, it's a strange tie. Pixel KILLS in low light, but the V30 wins with the wide angle lens for scenery. I don't do much in selfies, so can't say about the front cams.
    I like both phones a lot, and it only really came down to the wireless charging for me. I know I can add wireless to the Pixel with a case and a little ingenuity, but I don't like cases that add any built to these already sizeable phones.
    The VET wins for me, and is a must if you want an AWESOME headphone jack, but if you don't care about those features, get the Pixel 2XL. The funniest thing to me in this whole ordeal is that LG makes the Pixel 2 XL....

    When I first moved to the world of Android, I was an avid Blackberry user because that's what the corporate world was addicted to at the time. Eventually, I moved to Android and my first mobile device was a Samsung. I was never a fan of iPhone or iOS so I've never owned that device. Then the Samsung Note 4 came out and I fell in love with Samsung.
    Then came the dreaded Note7, one of the best mobile devices ever and I had to let it go because of its battery issues. In retrospect, I'm so happy I had to get rid of it. If that had never happened I would have never known the goodness that is the LG v line of phones. Underrated is the understatement of the century. I traded in my Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge for an LG v20 and have never looked back.
    As a professional food photographer, I immediately fell in love with the DSLR-like controls on the stock camera app, the quality of the photos and my ability to keep the integrity of the photo even after editing it. A few weeks ago, I upgraded to the LG v30 and LOVE it. I've found it hilarious that so many reviews have attempted to find fault with the phone indicating issues with the screen. It's #FakeNews folks and these reviewers are being paid to say bad things.
    The screen works just fine and is certainly clearer than anything on my Canon DSLR's when it comes to viewing photos after I've transferred them to the phone. If you're looking for a great mobile device for taking photos and recording in 4K, don't ignore this one. It's a winner.

    Was in the phone market, watched the V30 for quite some time, since LG announced it then took for ever to release. But worth it! No complaints at all. I also loaded Nova over top.

    They call it 18:9 because peeps are used to hearing 16:9 in regards to phone (and tv) aspect ratios. Plus, they're thinking 2:1 makes it sound small. Which is stupid, yes, but so are most people. :P I just got an LG V30 and I LOVE IT! It's an amazing device.
