I started with an FJ Cruiser at 16 years old, and since then had a 5th gen 4Runner, a GX and now own my second 5th gen 4Runner. I daily drive a Range Rover, so tried a Defender as a trail use rig, and honestly loved everything but the poor technical off road performance, due to the fully independent suspension, so I gave it up. It wheels lifting is like off roading in a crossover or sedan. Unfortunately the Defender left me feeling unfulfilled by my very modded 5th gen 4Runner and really wanting a modern off road capable mid-sized luxury SUV with body-on-frame construction. @@nna9509 I don't think the regulations were an issue in the 80s and 90s, and we didn't get the 70 series. The only LC being sold in NA was the full sized behemoth (how was there no issue with emissions/safety there).
More stubby 2 door models in the market would make a lot more sense in the current social climate with there being more single bachelor's and people less likely to have families.
My take is there was likely a non-compete agreement signed by Toyota with the other competitors, that they wouldn't enter the 2 door "jeep" space for some specified period of time. Everyone and their mother knows the 2 door LCs would blow Jeeps and Broncos out of the water in terms of sales.
I can't see any other reason why Toyota doesn't have a stubby 2 door truck on the market here. Emissions and safety regulations is an easy fix, so it's definitely not that.

Reliability Won’t be as good but better than most. Normally aspirated engines are less complex and not as stressed as turbocharged engines. Tremendous heat generated by not 1 but by 2 turbos requires additional cooling, hoses, etc. Reliability should be good and will improve over time but won’t touch the current n/a 6 & 8 cyl.

I like the GX. As much as I like the Off-Road version, I’m more interested to check the Luxury variant since I think that’ll be a popular trim.
Hopefully they’ll also add a F-Sport Appearance package later in it’s lifecycle.

Lots of FJ vibes. which I still own after 17 years. I actually like the Premium GX look more. I'm waiting on the Toyota Landcruiser version release to compare overall looks and packages. They should actually be a a bit better on price points. THE MPG IS VERY DISAPPOINTING should have offered other engine options I don't need to tow all that much.

Do you think it’ll be worth waiting on hybrid for potentially more HP? Or will it likely be “detuned” as well. Can you detune a hybrid engine just like the standard?

@@MYLIFEISLEGENDARY936. Interior is the same except for the 12” screen. The v6 turbo just gives you more torque at the cost of reliability. The 2022 has apple carplay so its good enough. So yes thats my opinion, no need to upgrade a 2 year old car.

I appreciate that Toyota/Lexus refuses to slap touchscreens on top a dash and call it a day. (I'm looking at you, BMW..and everyone else). They always incorporate touchscreens into the actual dash design and it looks so much better
