I started with an FJ Cruiser at 16 years old, and since then had a 5th gen 4Runner, a GX and now own my second 5th gen 4Runner. I daily drive a Range Rover, so tried a Defender as a trail use rig, and honestly loved everything but the poor technical off road performance, due to the fully independent suspension, so I gave it up. It wheels lifting is like off roading in a crossover or sedan. Unfortunately the Defender left me feeling unfulfilled by my very modded 5th gen 4Runner and really wanting a modern off road capable mid-sized luxury SUV with body-on-frame construction. This GX 550 is it!!! Finally!!!🤗☺❤️
I’ve bought the GX model since 2004. Only thing I’ve never liked is the back door swinging open. Super excited for this model to come out and get!! Never any issues with my GX’s except natural wear and tear! Reliability is one reason I continue to be a Lexus buyer!
Finally a reliable quasi-G wagon! For Suv, I like ‘‘em boxy. Always loved the G wagon but wouldn’t want to deal with the headache. I love this new GX. I’ll take a NORI GREEN w/ a roof tent ⛺️.

Sources say Luxury+ will have the Dynamic Sky panorama glass roof. The GX will also have a 6 seat option with second row captain seats. Two big advantages over the LX 600 imo. Looking forward to the release
What makes it worthy of being called “dynamic sky”? It is some special pano or just a regular pano. FWIW, I have had both pano and non pano moonroofs and find I could care less between the two…
its a nicer and luxury version of Eurasian market Land Cruiser Prado, and a Lexus version of Range Rover sport if comparing the LX to standard wheel base Range Rover vogue
@@nna9509 I don't think the regulations were an issue in the 80s and 90s, and we didn't get the 70 series. The only LC being sold in NA was the full sized behemoth (how was there no issue with emissions/safety there). More stubby 2 door models in the market would make a lot more sense in the current social climate with there being more single bachelor's and people less likely to have families. My take is there was likely a non-compete agreement signed by Toyota with the other competitors, that they wouldn't enter the 2 door "jeep" space for some specified period of time. Everyone and their mother knows the 2 door LCs would blow Jeeps and Broncos out of the water in terms of sales. I can't see any other reason why Toyota doesn't have a stubby 2 door truck on the market here. Emissions and safety regulations is an easy fix, so it's definitely not that.
I sure hope Toyota / Lexus has done their engineering right because they are banking their future and reputation for trouble free vehicle’s on this new 3.4l v6 TT and 2,4l turbo! Reliability better be as good as their normally aspirated v6s and v8s.
Reliability Won’t be as good but better than most. Normally aspirated engines are less complex and not as stressed as turbocharged engines. Tremendous heat generated by not 1 but by 2 turbos requires additional cooling, hoses, etc. Reliability should be good and will improve over time but won’t touch the current n/a 6 & 8 cyl.

My 2021 RX F Sport cost 80K Fully Loaded. I can’t wait to see the F Sport and Hybrid versions of this new GX. I’d definitely consider trading my RX to this GX next year. 🧚🏼♂️
Seeing as the only tangible differences between this and the overtrail are the rear locker and a slightly thicker skid plate, I feel like the overtrail won't be that much more expensive. It seems like they're going the Subaru wilderness route with this.
Overtrail gets adaptive variable suspension, rear locker, e-KDSS (KDSS doesn’t seem to be standard anymore), Mark Levinson option (none of premiums get ML) and a factory 3rd row delete
Honestly, I'm on the fence about this design and powertrain. I think I'll stick with buying a used GX with the V8. Considering I'd use it as an actual off-roader/overlander, a cheaper, older GX will be just fine.
You might have a good case. Get the late model first gens with low mileage. They had 8 seats, Bluetooth, V8 with more HP and most importantly, better approach and departure angles (than a lot of 2nd gens) whilst being a real bargain. Trust me, they will hold their value too.
I own a toyota tundra trd-offroad with the twin turbo v6 and I gotta say you made a point with everything else but the powertrain that motor is honestly amazing it sounds amazing, it’s really quick when you need it to and aslong you dont have 33s or any offroad wheels on the car I’m sure you’ll be able to get 20-22 mpg combined or more since that’s how much i get on my truck been thinking of trading in my truck for the gx premium or outright just buy it

It seems like Lexus got this backwards. All the gloss black stuff should be on the premium instead of the overland model. Matte pillars looks cheaper imo. Matte would be better for outdoors tho.

Incredible improvement over the last 2 GX model designs... Definitely gives off a G-Wagon feel with it's tall clean boxy look...Very clean...Has me thinking of checking out the Luxury Plus before deciding on the BMW X5 I had planned on ordering.
BMW is nice for sure. Personally, I've had long-term reliability issues with my Beemers. I'm at the point now that I'm more keen to long-term reliability than status.

I like the GX. As much as I like the Off-Road version, I’m more interested to check the Luxury variant since I think that’ll be a popular trim. Hopefully they’ll also add a F-Sport Appearance package later in it’s lifecycle.
Lots of FJ vibes. which I still own after 17 years. I actually like the Premium GX look more. I'm waiting on the Toyota Landcruiser version release to compare overall looks and packages. They should actually be a a bit better on price points. THE MPG IS VERY DISAPPOINTING should have offered other engine options I don't need to tow all that much.
Do you think it’ll be worth waiting on hybrid for potentially more HP? Or will it likely be “detuned” as well. Can you detune a hybrid engine just like the standard?
This will be the model that I get for my next GX, I have a 2018 GX but this gives me the improvements that I'm looking for. I'll wait to see how it drives because I do love my V8 engine.

This Lexus GX looks like a love child of 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero & the 2022 Toyota Land cruiser 76 LX V8(both of which I love).

Looks like the overtrail roof rails are designed to hold more weight for a RTT. Pretty disappointed no one did any shots of the suspension.
I hope they don’t follow the GM model of charging $15k more for lockers and shocks

The 2024 Lexus GX 550 Is the least luxurious SUV from all premium brands, Lexus is usually synonymous with luxury but the New GX falls short..
