The Overtrail + seems like Lexus looked inside my head, and built exactly what I want. I love the boxy outside, and the interior features are great. So glad it gets a massaging front seat. That was a major sore spot for me against the LX. This new GX really does kick the LX in the teeth.
I think you are right pricing. As a prior 2019 gx460 owner and before that a 2016 t4r, I think I’m priced out. Really hoping the new LC version comes out for a little bit of a discount or I’ll wait for these next GXs to be certified in a few years and pick up a clean one.

The LX was just re-badged quickly since the land cruiser wasn't available in the US anymore; they likely wanted to get it out quickly to get the would-be land cruiser buyers that wanted the J300 in the US

I still think the LX has its pros, it’s definitely more focused on the luxury aspect of the segment. While obviously the GX takes the off-road aspect. Before Lexus had to combine both into the LX but they don’t have to anymore. One problem with the LX is that it wasn’t designed for the American market, and you can tell it was designed for the Middle East with the options it has. It’s surprising that the GX gets front massaging seats and not the LX
Great overview, Kirk! Agree, "cool box" should be an option and not forced on any trim level such as the Luxury +. 10:19 I completely agree. The GX looks better, seems more practical and weighs less. I just hope the petrol V6 will be available for the right-hand drive markets (East and Southern Africa, Australia, The UK and ASEAN)
Buyers, people who BUY new GX's would have preferred the V6TT with a hybrid motor. Detuned a bit, but much more preferable to a 4cyl setup. And I would prefer a tan interior, not just on the centre of the seats and a tiny bit on the door. As well as a lighter headliner colour. Not everyone wants a black hole interior. A brighter fake wood would be nice. Real wood is even better. I wish they would get rid of the plastic inserts on the A and D pillars as well as the black roof option (which drives the need for the plastic inserts). As well it should with a modern 10-speed transmission have a regular RWD mode like a 4Runner. 17mpg is brutal and this one feature could have mpg reach into the mid 20's.
Hopefully, Toyota/Lexus will produce a PHEV GX. The GX owner demographic may likely indicate that rarely will owners drive over 35 miles a day. That alone will attract daily local drivers that plug in at home and avoid using gas altogether. That's the one I will buy for sure.

Cross shopping the Land Rover I can see but for G-Wagon buyers...the base model STARTS at like $140k. I think there'd be very little cross shopping there as if they want a G-Wagon, they're going to be getting a G-Wagon; those kind of buyers know what they want

Sequoia
It’s LC Prado
Sorry for the confusion… is the US market getting the Toyota version of the GX, ie the updated not yet announced Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
@@Notourtube it’s being considered but it will be too similar to 4Runner if they do bring it here
@@chezzyperson3339 4runner in asia is toyota fortuner, so lc prado for american isnt 4runner but gx because we in asia that lexus barely sell it in asia mb not in middle east asia
Can’t have a tow vehicle with three rows and levinson :( - premium sound should be an option on all trims.
A three row overlander would fix this
Kirk, did you notice the side molding on the Overtrail in those press photos? Looks great. Wonder if that will be an option? Wasn’t listed as one….
6:43 are those rock sliders 👀
How does the GX on 33s only has 8.1” ground clearance and not a min of 10”
So we have to get a GX Luxury just to get cooled/ventilated seats??
If it will have the Tacoma hybrid engine, will it also have a 3.5V6 plug in hybrid?
Oh man… this seals the deal for my family car. I cant wait to have babies just for this thing 😂
The markups will be insane 😭
I work for Lexus of Cherry Hill and we AR not marking up the pricing on this car
@@DamionPugh ah man I wish that was the case for my local dealership, awesome of you guys to not do that 🙏🏼
The dealership in CO said their parent company doesn’t allow markups.
I dont think Lexus is allowing markups. I haven't seen it in my area
@@TheWinwin4all oh they allow markups.... we just choose not to do them. It's tough for customers no matter how much money you make
I get the G class is in a league of its own but it’s hard to argue that this isn’t direct competition. It has good power, legit creature comforts and off-road capability. If the G sold for its actual MSRP you’d definitely have people cross shopping these. And Defender vs GX? I don’t even see a scenario where you choose Land Rover over Lexus, it’s like the least reliable vs the most. Both in initial quality and long term reliability Land Rover is horrible.
Cross shopping the Land Rover I can see but for G-Wagon buyers...the base model STARTS at like $140k. I think there'd be very little cross shopping there as if they want a G-Wagon, they're going to be getting a G-Wagon; those kind of buyers know what they want
Hope they will have enough cars available at that time and you don't need to wait for another year. Toyota really likes the hunger marketing strategy in the USA.
GX Overtrail+ or Rivian R1S early preorder...
ooof, that hybrid battery looks really high up. Do you think they'll sacrifice 3rd row fold-flat like the Sequoia? I think I'd rather see it with a 3rd row delete than sacrifice so much storage.
Will it comes to Middle East markets?
Man! Mark Levinson should be standard on all trim models for that price!!!
2001 RX has four way. 2013 GS had butterfly headrests-Luxury trim.
Why are these latest premium SUV’s eliminating rear Blu-ray video option? For families this is so crucial…Even my 2016 Honda Pilot Touring has it with HDMI to connect anything basically. Rather have that than a “cool” sunroof.
All the kids have their own devices now (my 4 year old has his own tablet with all his movies/games on it). No need to have them in the vehicle anymore.
I will buy that exact model on the showroom! Not one change! The only incognito is why the put that gigantic cover on the tow pack, and how will lool like without the cover!
such a good car but why isnt mark levinson a option on every trim not just the top ones? that makes no sense. they should have made a fsport version in my opion as well. im sure it will sale well and i would love to have one but dont want to pay for the top trim just for mark levinson.
which would have the better resell value - luxury+ trim vs overtrail+ trim ?
overtrail+ maybe if we're thinking it'll play out like the TRD pro 4runner / tacomas
Love the vehicle, but I'm torn. I need that 3rd row on the Overtrail. And was hoping for the iforce for a little better fuel economy
100% agree here
Kirk , 4 cylinder hybrid is not going to give you that smooth quiet that the current GX is ? Are you okay with the GX not being a luxury anymore? I’m concerned none of the new models are going to give the quiet smooth ride of the current with the V8 Also, the specs don’t mention the wood / leather wrapped steering wheel ? Did they get rid of the wood ? The sky roof does not open …. It’s like the Toyota Venza
Sucks I need 8000 lb towing but want ML stereo . Sucks u can’t get in a premium plus
like it no 3rd row in the overtrail , good bye defender sales and does Any one even buy a discovery
We have the towing number when do we hear about payload?
Likely similar to LX600 which shares frame, engine and transmission
1,565lbs
Wait but why the RX has ventilated second row seats but not the gx even ít higher end
