    I always watch this channel for advice, and for getting an edge on my home improvement skills. Most of what I know about projects like these, I have learned from this channel. Over the last two years, Home RenoVision has been tremendously helpful. Now, taking what I have learned, I would offer only to install/orientate the bump stop key screws to be on the top, so they’re hidden, and the handle on the left, when opening to the right (handle on the right if opening to the left). I know these guys are very professional, and they are likely installing based on the client’s wishes. I only offer these two cents, has I just recently installed my own barn door in the master bedroom and went through these parts of installation myself.

    The discs are to be installed at the top of the door to stop it from jumping off the rail track.
    The two plastic anchors are to be used to screw the bottom guide in case you have concrete floors.

    cant tell ya how many times a GC will have me come out to install these things and there is no backing whatsoever in the wall and they have no clue that that is a problem. I usually will carefully cut out the drywall and implant a mounting board sort of like the one you suggested to put right on to the surface but the way I do it, to keep the door from ending up way too far away from the wall, I "implant"a 3/4 thick piece of wood that can be painted to match the wall color and it protrudes about 1/8" to 1/4" depending on sheetrock thickness ,bevel the edges or ease the edges and it looks really nice clean and professional. personally I prefer not to have the mounts attached to drywall at all even if it has backing behind, some doors are very very heavy and it compresses the sheetrock over time, the rail gets loose resulting in the door dragging on the floor or hanging crooked. I have gone out to a few where this had happened and was hired to fix it. recessed wall plate is the best way to go in my humble opinion.I have also done 1/4" steel plate mounted to the wall secured to studs but this is a pain in the butt ,only do it when the aesthetic of the install requires it.

      Yup - it was obvious as soon as I saw it. The other consideration is that this particular barn door set up is probably ok because there is no real air flow between the rooms. There was no bottom guide to stop the door ‘swinging’ in the breeze.

    Very helpful as alway, your videos are entertaining to watch, but even more important is that I always learn something(s) - often many things. On the handle for the door, I do believe the hardware was correct, the machine nut goes on top and takes most of the force, the lag bolt goes on the bottom and is mainly there just to keep the handle from moving around. Think of the front door to a house that has a handle that extends down to grab, the bottom of the handle often just has a more minor type of fastener primarily to keep the handle straight up and down and down and to keep it from moving from side to side. Thanks again for the consistently excellent videos!

    Just what I needed! I am building double sliding doors with mirrors for my daughters closet. One door slides behind the other. Still deciding if the door that goes behind the front door should have the mirror or chalk board surface to write on and decorate herself as she loves to draw.

  • @ajcaiati
    @ajcaiati 3 года назад +1

    The header over the door should be enough. But you can find a stud or two in the wall and use those for support away from the door opening.
    I thought there would be guides at the bottom of the door to keep it from swaying. Very nice custom door, the mirror is perfect. Thanks for the tips.

    i believe the discs that you installed on the floor trim are intended to be installed at the top of the door to prevent it from jumping or getting knocked of the track.

      After the door is hung you mount them directly on top of the door. It reduces the gap between guide rail and door.

    • @georgiafan6618
      @georgiafan6618 5 лет назад

      @@alexcomander3115 Installed one in an opening that was already trimmed out between two rooms. PIA to get the door aligned in its opening (can see door front and back) then getting proper height off the floor which is not level. The 2" at top is crucial as is the slotted guide on floor.

    Need to explain where the black rail (@78") sits over the opening (left to right). Might have to extend 8" past door opening. Most barn doors have a "T-slot" or routered slot on bottom for door guide to prevent door from swinging in/out (3/8" off avg. floor). Your door will be swinging around as it's more than an inch off the floor. Since it's a closet installation, door will be seen from only one side - install is thus easy. Good video!

  • @kickemassicus

    Whenever there's for trim to clear you have to go with a board up top, 3/4-5/4, looks cool with black bolts or ledger locks, I guess you could shim out the top track with nuts and paint then black so long as your mounted solid in a header or so sneaky wise backing like this guy

    Dumb blonde question ..... The door wouldn't come off the runner could it ? or is it the weight if the door keeps it on ?

    Hi mate, thanks for the video! I'll need to use a plank to install mine on dry wall. What sort of size and wood would you suggest?
    rail is 1.8m (~6ft) so I thought of using a timber plank of 15cm (6") high x 6ft long x and 15mm deep.
    Do you reckon that would do the job?
