Completely blown away by the lighting, colors, and image quality here. Sound was crystal clear, and your screen presence and straightforward explanation were perfect. I’m also shooting on the A7Sii and am looking for ways to develop. Thanks a ton man, subbed!
Dear Oliver, as much as this wasn't the budget I was looking at in terms of building a rig, the value of your video is pretty high up there man! I enjoyed every minute of this video. Please put out more vids!! Subscribed.
I kept nodding my head in approval as you went through the gear list. I use this exact camera/lens/monitor setup and love it. My only gripe with the 7" monitor is that it gets a little top-heavy and awkward when mounting it to the top handle. Great job mate.
How can i set up a directors monitor with the as7ii on the ninja? I noticed in 4k it turns off the back of the camera but the monitor works, both works in 1080p but 4k doesnt work
Dude!! That is one sweet rig!! Your editing, video quality, lighting and B-roll are stellar!! Keep pumping out the videos man and I think you could go far!!
Fantastic video Oliver. Super high quality production, lit beautifully and sounds great. Just found your channel as I'm looking to buy the Tilta rig for my A7III (and hopefully that same rig will work on the upcoming A7SIII whenever it's announced). This is the best video I've found on RUclips that clearly explains a rig setup. So glad I found your channel and look forward to more content.
I've been shooting wedding films with a Sony A6000 + Smallrig basic setup - was looking into the A7sII as an upgrade and keeping the A6000 as a B-Cam to throw on a tripod and use for a second audio setup. This video is super helpful and is definitely assisting in my decision process. Thanks for putting this together!
Great video and lighting. Only thing I would miss with this otherwise nice rig: external battery solution like vmount to give all day shooting and less batteryvariety
@@fotoworkshop_stuttgart My Feelworld monitor is powered with a Sony NP F battery and has a DC out jack. I can use a dummy battery in my DSLR so I can power the entire setup from just one battery. If I move to a gimbal, I'll have to extend the cable tho.
What is a comparable Nikon compatible 24-70mm? I see a lot of suggestions for Canon however I sold my Canon. I currently own Nikon's Nikkor 28-80mm 3.5-5.6G and do not prefer the build quality compared to any manual E Series lenses -- I want auto as well.
I'm looking into setting up a really compact rig for my A7S2, but i want power it by one single Vmount Batt on the back. This video was helpful and gave me some new things to think about before I start adding everything to the shopping cart. haha Thanks Oliver!
Absolutely! I am looking into doing the same thing for both my A7sii and my future FS5 Mark II... V-Mount batteries are so helpful to power the entire rig! Let me know how it goes!
Love your Rig ! I am still looking at camera's to replace my action GOPRO . You make a great argument for SONY products . Something I am now thinking about. Thanks for the video.
New sub to your channel! Love your lighting setup! What clean, sharp, rich, professional and high end content! Great advice on building and personalizing a camera rig!
Oliver Rouch oh man your going to be great becuse you already are! You are just sharing what you are with others! I am building a rig for my fujifil XH1 currently. I am new to doing the actual filming or shooting as I have always been in production management capacity. I have a great passion for visual story telling and I want to be directly involved in the creative capturing and editing process. I love your style and look forward to learning from you!
my opinion, filming a talking head with an eye light bounce from underneath, its a better visual if you had a white background or natural lit back light from a window or a balcony :) i know this video is old, i just noticed this and i wanna put this out there lel. overall, thats a pretty cool rig
hey, i have a question that may seem a bit stupid. If I use the screw on the bottom of camera for something, will I still be able to attach the camera to a rig, or not?
I don't know why, but i only stumbled across this because of youtube recommended , Didn't come up when i was searching. But anyway, thanks for this video. Very helpful.
And you're doing the right thing because the G7 in 4K has proven time and time again that a 4/3 $450 camera can blow a $3000 camera out of the water - easily. I shoot everything on my G7 and people keep asking what Im using. Great choice
No follow focus system? I know it would add bulk to an already hefty rig, but I'd choose follow focus over a matte box if I had to do one. I can't trust Sony's autofocus as much when I'm in the field doing run n gun.
Awesome video dude, well done. But let's be honest here at least a small part of putting the matte box on is to make it look the part no? Nothing wrong with wanting a little cine-sexiness in your rig.
Great video, but for me personally a lot of things are very expensive. Does anyone knows about cheapers parts? Its not that I don't want to buy them, its that my budget ain't on that level yet.
Did I miss your battery solution? Usually I see a V Mount option or at least a Power Junkie to use NP-F batteries or something. and then a bunch of adapters to power each of the components yet only have one battery to focus on (especially with the a7SII and those crappy NP-FW50 batteries. Any way, great production quality and I agreed with almost everything you chose, just felt you missed the whole single battery concept (which can also double as a counter weight)
Nice video. Surprised at your low subs. Hope your channel grows. Which preamp are you using? What is your opinion on building H4Npro into a rig with A6500 on to the cage with atomos Ninja V ?
Hey There! It totally depends on what sound you hope to capture. Wooden camera makes a great XLR adapter for these mirrorless cameras... but the preamps aren't spectacular in the cameras. However, with that being said, my a7sii witha rode NTG-2 either as a shotgun mic on camera or as a boom pole mic is all I ever use and it works for me perfectly. Adding an H4n would be maybe nicer quality, but adds a lot more weight and bulkiness to the rig. If you can make it work though then go ahead and test it out! I'd love to see what you come up with.
@@Oxenfree614Thank you for replying. Thinking of using h4n in because, that way I need not invest in a new preamp unit. Ninja V is exceptional value just as a monitor!
Hey There! Great question. My DJI Ronin-MX set up is pretty simple, I utilize the same Atomos Ninja Flame monitor with a monitor clamp on top of the handles(www.adorama.com/gygvpmma7h.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwguDeBRDCARIsAGxuU8bwx1MUNq3C1zK-lEjWfv0rx3JlAIQc0LdbmU7wPcQZu3GR9xAH-esaAv7PEALw_wcB). That same monitor mount can be used for a shotgun mic mount as well. But that is all I use on my Ronin because I would recommend keeping it as light as possible! If you want to take it a step further I would even suggest looking into the EasyRig MiniMax to take some of the weight/pressure off of your back and arms.
Interesting. You said DSLR probably 10 times in this video, but you're building a mirror-less rig. But that's a good choice of camera, and that would have been the lens I chose as well if I was a Sony shooter. I'm going to build a Fuji X-T3/X-T4 rig soon, but if I ever change brands/bodies, I'll just need a new cage, all the other gear will transfer. Let's face it though, we want matte boxes because they look cool on the end of our cameras. You're using a screw-on ND filter, so it's not because you need a filter holder, and you could have just used the lens hood, to keep stray light out. But there's a lot to be said for looking "Professional" to clients. I learned this back in wedding photography. My first wedding ever I had some old woman telling her friend "Oh, it's just 35mm" about my camera, like I was some kind of amateur. I since went to medium format, and then multiple versions of digital of course, but I had the big custom flash bracket, and the big flash diffusion, and the big lens because it looked professional...all one piece at a time as well. Each wedding I shot, I'd get a new piece of gear. Then nobody said peep after that, lol.
This video is amazing, helped me with some ideas man! Im GH5 and I have a year long shoot in the United States next year (Working with documenting a sony label artist! woop!) Need to get my rig ready... I do also think this video could be titled (How to build a rig - get $25,000" haha...
Great video Oliver.i built a rig for my GH5 with the addition of audio recorder. It really works great for me. . Great channel subscribed and will check your videos. All the best dude.
My rig I'm in 3000 dollars. My main use is tripod and studio. If you want to see it I have a shot of it at end of my wide Sony lens test video and shots of it in my community tab on my channel. Nice rig by the way
I don't understand why youtube channels with such quality aren't that popular.
This remains an unsolved mystery of the RUclips algorithms
I totally agree , but this fella only has 2 videos. I hope he makes more. He will BLOW up.
Because it's very specifically aimed at DSLR videographers
Onan he does not upload enough for the RUclips algorithm
Cause they're niche. And new vids need to be consistent and frequent to hit the niche's mainstream viewers.
The Production quality of this entire video is superb
Thank you so much!!
Insane Quality!!!
great job Oliver
I never considered a monitor would benefit me, but after using one I can't live without it.
This video just screams production quality.

Top quality. Great video man!👌🏻

Great video, and excellent rig! But I have a question ... How do you manipulate the camera? How do you go to the menu or see the photometer etc?
