Haven't watched the full video yet but just gotta take a break and say thank you and congrats on 1: being a good talker, you get to the point, talk about the good stuff and has a good voice. Not ranting on forever about crap or whatever. 2: for having a really good, pro light which (for me as a photographer and filmmaker) makes it very pleasant to watch and keep me interested to see more and you show the products in a nice way. Good job man!
i bought that first one, but with the higher end top handle they have, this allows you to attach the second rod they give you to that, giving you a top handle that can be rotated if needed and many more mounting options.
dunno if you guys gives a damn but if you are bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all of the new movies and series on instaflixxer. I've been watching with my girlfriend for the last couple of months :)
One thing to note: If you are filming yourself, most of these will obstruct your view of the flip out monitor. Thank's again for another great and helpful video
Thank you Scott Lamp. Brandon the issue with spinning it is if you put it on the Camvate Video Cage on the other side it appears to prevent you from opening the battery door. No forward facing view screen or take it apart to get to the battery. Ug.
Your informative upload on low-cost cages and exceedingly exceptional production quality rocks, Sir! Subscribed with Notifications "On"! Keep up the great work.
I use the Camvate with a G7 and a SmallRig top handle. It works unbelievably well for keeping the camera steady, even without stabilized lenses. Before getting my G7, I had an a6000 with a SmallRig cage-it didn't compare to the functionality and flexibility of the Camvate cage.
thanks for the share. i have a g7 and like the idea of using the hot shoe as a mounting point. i was concerned about battery access but it sounds like you are pleased. thumbs up.
It fits as if it was designed specifically for the G7. Battery door on mine opens without any issues, though when open the door actually touches the bottom plate, so it's a snug fit. However, no issues yet, and for just over $50, it's the best accessory I've bought for my camera. My only complaint is how long it takes to put together, but it's a pretty small trade-off.
I have it with side handle and use a SmallRig top handle, though the one in the video might work better for the cage than the Smallrig. The side handle is really what makes it great, though.
Just in time! Got my G7 a week ago after extensively watching your videos about the Panasonic cameras and have been looking for affordable cages too! WHOO
Very useful for me! I'm planning on getting an EOS-M6 and one of these should work. One thing missing was the size of the "small" vertical brace on the 2nd one you liked at the end. You only measured the large one that you used. Compliments on your video, lighting, set design & audio. Well done!
I bought the Viltrox VX-11 and got a "Fanshang VX-11" slightly different, but the biggest issue I have is the battery slot on my X-T3 doesn't line up with the cutout on the cage. So now I'm going to buy a Camera Riser Plate and shift it up a little bit.
Love my Smallrig fits all my camera, for 99 Canadian, best purchase I ever made for my Camera. Use it primarily with my Lumix G7 , bought the handle too but didn't really need it.
Notification squad is great, but bitter sweet. I get notified as soon as you upload but what sucks is that I have to wait another week for your next video 😂😂, I'm guilty of being a gear head, buying gear i don't necessarily need for what I do, now im contemplating on getting a cage 🤔🤔🤔
Hi! I have a question :) Should I build out my rig with a cage and all I can think of mounting to it? Cage, monitor, pre-amp, light, mic, top and side handle, audio recorder, battery pack, rails, blackbox, ect... OR try to keep it as light as possible? One reason to get like a a6300 is the light weight and size. It seems like a lot of people like to build big rigs just to get a big rig... ? What do you guys think?
Interesting, good video. That first cage with the wood handles looks really nice, the prices are not bad too, cheaper than I expected. How do you find the finish - especially on the rods and cold shoes? Are they powder coated? do the rods and shoes scuff, or lose their colour/finish when you slide metal on metal?
Hey Caleb! I've been looking at a while to "up my game" when it comes to rigging my main camera (A7RII) but wanted variety incase I need to use other cameras. I purchased the Sonovel cage based on this video and man I just want to say thank you for making this video! I've since then purchased small pieces here and there for a fully built out documentary rig. Thank you so much!
What if you use a battery grip? Planning on buying a battery grip for my canon. Just dont know if it'll fit. Can't seem to find a video where it discusses this topic
You probably already sorted it out, but I went through the same hassle trying to get something to work with a battery grip on my Canon 80D. I ended up combining a SmallRig cage with a Camvate. I'm pretty sure the Camvate one in Caleb's video will work. They send you two size rods. You can always get some rod connectors and combine them together.
Just picked up the Camvate rig to use with my GH5. Love it! But I now realize I don't have a camera bag suitable for transporting my assembled rig. Any recommendations? I really don't want to assemble and disassemble every time I shoot.
Awesome! Have been looking at the Camvate for quite a while now actually, but never went for it. Would you happen to know if the battery/sd-card door of the G7 can easily open up when mounted on the Camvate? Thanks!
Thanks Caleb! I think you also own the G85... any thoughts on which might work best for Panasonic G85 w/ the left-flip out rotating screen and optional G85 bottom-mounted battery grip accessory, maybe the first or last rig you reviewed?
Great video. Can you please tell us whether the left rods or bars would affect the action of articulating monitors of cameras so equipped (except for the cage geared for Sony)? Is there enough room so the monitors can freely rotate?
Might be a really dumb question but .... we are using external mic's on relatively small camcorders to record meetings, could the "side uprights" on these cages be switched to the right side (if holding the camera in front of you to record something) so that they would not block the flip out screen that most camcorders have on the left side? These would make mounting extra mic's much easier.
Hey Caleb, any chance you'll be doing a relatively cheap monitor review at some point? I know that's probably spendy if you're paying out of pocket, but I think it would be super helpful.
Hey Caleb! I just picked up the first cage you showed us. I had a quick question im hoping you could answer. In the video i see what looks like an arca swiss clamp below the top mount of the cage (has a silver knob with a black circle on the dial) what are you using that for? it didnt look like it was attached to the cold shoe on the camera so i was curious about it, didnt want to miss getting something that is useful. If anyone else knows that would also be great
Man I just got my small rig for the a6500 and was disappointed to find the holes are bigger than on my Tilta Rig for my A7sII. I was hoping to use the accessories and hand grip from my Tilta for the Small rig but the screw alignments are all off my a millimeter and the screws from the Tilta are slightly smaller than on the Smallrig. I thought cheese plates and cages all had pretty much universal screw sizes?? Looks like I am going to have to purchase the hand grip from small rig. Bummer. I thought they had 1/4" threads? Apparently not.
This an awesome video, I like all these cages. Which one would you recommend for a Canon EOS-M? I do like the second one with the cage, top handle, and rails. How well would this work with the EOS-M?
Hey Caleb! Was watching the video, awesome work as always. But when I saw the monitor setup on the cages I was wondering if you are still planning on doing a monitor comparison like you mentioned in a previous video?
Do half cages put stress on the hot shoe? I was just wondering if you tighten the cage to the hot shoe, is the majority of the weight on the hot shoe instead of transferring the weight to the cage and bottom connection point?
Hi Caleb I'm curious have you found a cage that will allow for the GH series flip out LCD monitors to be viewed from the front for vlogging purposes? I'm looking for a set up for field vlogging that I can view the flip out LCD and mount my zoom h4n and a shotgun mic on. Great ch man!
Thank you for testing with the 6D. I was searching for a cage for my own 6D for awhile and a lot are not great but love the last one. Going to purchase that soon.
Please Caleb, try to add Ebay and BH links to every product you review/compare. Many of are not from the US and cannot buy from Amazon. Actually we can, but we have to pay $70 of shipping for a product worth $20 - $30. Shipping is always twice or three times the product's cost. And thank you very much for using the metric system. :)
Great video! Question tho, I have a Canon 80d and am considering the Camvate cage for it. Do you think getting the grip handle for the left side would get in the way of the flip out screen if i wanted to use it or would that not be a problem?
Thanks!! so much!! im thinkihng get a cage for canon 80d, your video with information in numbers mm, its perfect! you help me alot before but somenthing!
What do you think of the smallrig cage for a audio setup? That cage, a zoom h4n pro, a Røde ntg 2 or 4+ and a powerbank, with space to uppgrade it like with the Røde filmmaker kit?
I have a Neewer Cage for my Canon 7D and absolutely love it. The two handles are genius, and the affordability is too good to pass up. The rigging possibilities are endless with that cage. - Paul
I have a nikon D5100 and I added the duel battery grip to the bottom which adds more hight. I like the last cage, will work with my camera or do I have to remove the duel battery case?
Thanks for your video review. I wanted to get the Camvate rig but I found very different prices to the ones you mention in your video..very disappointing!. $170 CND for the set up that was supposed to be $75 US
Caleb the main reason I want a cage is I want to use a SmallHD Focus with my Nikon D750 so I need to protect or hold the mini hdmi into the camera body. Do any of these cages have provision for this, is there a attachment that is sold.
Got a half cage from niceyrig. It comes with a nato rail on top and quick release base + a side wooden grip
Haven't watched the full video yet but just gotta take a break and say thank you and congrats on 1: being a good talker, you get to the point, talk about the good stuff and has a good voice. Just a minute ago I was looking for cheap cages and then I got this notification. Hell yeah
Nice!
Jeroen the same happened to me!!
Same but in suggested section, this is the luckiest video ever
Are you using google chrome or google while logged in your google account? That's what they do..
Can we get a video tutorial on choosing the best grey t-shirts/v-necks to wear for video?
Haha! Thats what I get for never shopping and only owning 5 shirts!
bwwwwwhahhahahahahahaha
Caleb: If that's all they pick on, you are doing swell!
If you didn't spend all that money on gear, man...
Like buying a truckload of cheap monitors.
I've actually needed this for way too long but my budget has always stopped me. So thanks so much for this yo! 👍
Glad I could help Lucas!
This was the video I was totally looking for!
"Yo???" "YO?????"
i bought that first one, but with the higher end top handle they have, this allows you to attach the second rod they give you to that, giving you a top handle that can be rotated if needed and many more mounting options.
Hey great videos man! Do you have a suggestion for a cage that would fit a 1dx mkii??
dunno if you guys gives a damn but if you are bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all of the new movies and series on instaflixxer. I've been watching with my girlfriend for the last couple of months :)
@Iker Jimmy Yea, have been using instaflixxer for years myself :D
One thing to note: If you are filming yourself, most of these will obstruct your view of the flip out monitor. Thank's again for another great and helpful video
Most have one sided risers, meaning you can just spin the camera so that the flip monitor is on the open side.
Thank you Scott Lamp. Brandon the issue with spinning it is if you put it on the Camvate Video Cage on the other side it appears to prevent you from opening the battery door. No forward facing view screen or take it apart to get to the battery. Ug.
God what is the lighting setup for the first couple shots like 1:30, the light looks BEAUTIFUL!
Your informative upload on low-cost cages and exceedingly exceptional production quality rocks, Sir! Subscribed with Notifications "On"! Keep up the great work.
Genius. Plus your video about the modular Arca Swiss plates really helps keeps it on budget. Thanks for creating useful content! Keep it up!
I use the Camvate with a G7 and a SmallRig top handle. It works unbelievably well for keeping the camera steady, even without stabilized lenses. Before getting my G7, I had an a6000 with a SmallRig cage-it didn't compare to the functionality and flexibility of the Camvate cage.

thanks 2x for the sharing. just cage, no top handle or side grip? your style or something else? thumbs up. be well ;-)
I have it with side handle and use a SmallRig top handle, though the one in the video might work better for the cage than the Smallrig. The side handle is really what makes it great, though.
Just in time! Got my G7 a week ago after extensively watching your videos about the Panasonic cameras and have been looking for affordable cages too! WHOO
Austin Webster I love my Small rig G7 cage.
Very useful for me! I'm planning on getting an EOS-M6 and one of these should work.
One thing missing was the size of the "small" vertical brace on the 2nd one you liked at the end. You only measured the large one that you used.
Compliments on your video, lighting, set design & audio. Well done!
I LOVE MY CAMVATE CAGE- I've had it for a couple of months now and it's amazing
Also, the cage doesn't block the battery on my G7
This is an excellent and very very useful video. Caleb has been at it for a long time and continues to provide valuable reviews and content.
Fantastic video, about to purchase the Camvate video cage for my GH4 excellent presentation of all these cages!
I've been using the first one with my Canon XC10 for a while now. Works great!
Love my Smallrig fits all my camera, for 99 Canadian, best purchase I ever made for my Camera. Use it primarily with my Lumix G7 , bought the handle too but didn't really need it.
Very glad to know you are satisfied with our products, looking forward further cooperation with you. :)
Based on your video I picked up that first cafe for my 5D. It's awesome! Thanks man. Keep it up.
I ordered the Camvate(HDVate) cage two days back.
Glad you seconded my purchase.
=P
Awesome. Thank you for being so concise. That Camvate cage is currently sitting in my Amazon cart and looking pretty tempting.
I never even though about being a youtuber seriously before this channel
One of your best video ♥♥♥
_I can listen to your voice all day_
once again! killing it with the videos man. Fantastic work
Notification squad is great, but bitter sweet. I get notified as soon as you upload but what sucks is that I have to wait another week for your next video 😂😂, I'm guilty of being a gear head, buying gear i don't necessarily need for what I do, now im contemplating on getting a cage 🤔🤔🤔
.might buy the first one just for that wooden handle!
The polish on that ting!!
I saw a different video focusing on that cage & it does look well made and flexible as to use.
Great video, thank you... I bought the complete set, the first one, and my canon 6D fit on it perfect... Love the look and functionality. thanks.

Isn't there an option for like sony cameras with a bettery grip?
hey, Caleb. great video :) can you make one about stabilizers, in general? gimbals, you know.
Thanks :)
Thanks Gabriela! I probably should!
can you suggest some ? for nikon d5500 ?
What if you use a battery grip? Planning on buying a battery grip for my canon. Just dont know if it'll fit. Can't seem to find a video where it discusses this topic

You should make a video on the different types of cage accessories
Hey Caleb, any chance you'll be doing a relatively cheap monitor review at some point? I know that's probably spendy if you're paying out of pocket, but I think it would be super helpful.
For the last cage you covered the Sonovel. Are you able to remove the 6d battery without taking it off the cage?
Could I put rods on the bottom of the Camvate video cage and then later on add a pad for a shoulder rig and handles? Kind of like the Sonovel one.
Amazing video. do you have recommendations for camcorders cages like the sony AX100?
That's what I'm after too, for a Sony FDR-AX700. I'm not comfortable using the built in padded strap and jamming my big paw in there.
I love the wooden handle!
I had been thinking about getting a universal cage for a while now. Thanks for the video! Too bad the Sonovel is not available!
Caleb, thanks for doing this review. Have you done a similar review for video heads? I'm looking for one for an 80d. Thanks again!
Man I just got my small rig for the a6500 and was disappointed to find the holes are bigger than on my Tilta Rig for my A7sII. This an awesome video, I like all these cages. Which one would you recommend for a Canon EOS-M? I do like the second one with the cage, top handle, and rails. How well would this work with the EOS-M?
I’d like to know the answer to this question too. Caleb, you have a Canon EOS M
@@petervisor I need the same answer!
Hey Caleb! Was watching the video, awesome work as always. But when I saw the monitor setup on the cages I was wondering if you are still planning on doing a monitor comparison like you mentioned in a previous video?
As I understood camera cages has not stabilizing function, right? May I use some of this cages for videoshooting smoothly as well?
What would be best for doing 3 attachments? (1 mic, 1 LED light panel and 1 external monitor)
Fantastic information! Thanks man! I love these types of videos, and you do them so well.
Thanks again!
Did you find any cage ? I’m here 4 years later looking for a canon 6d mark 1 cage
What is the cage for exactly does it smooth out shots? or just an easy way to carry multiple components?
Great video! I love these videos. Could you do a video on cheap ball heads. Thanks again.
I think the first was the best. Or the second. Its a tight fit. Great review.
On the first cage, could you take the smaller wall piece and use it in the rod attachment?
Yep! You easily fit tiny cameras in the cage.
Caleb, can these C bracket be used for a Camcorder like a Canon G40 if they are turned around?
Very good rewiew Caleb. Thanks!
Very well explained and informative! Thanks Caleb!
Enjoy your video very informative. Which cage do you recommend for sitting on tripod.
thanks
Great video! Question tho, I have a Canon 80d and am considering the Camvate cage for it. Do you think getting the grip handle for the left side would get in the way of the flip out screen if i wanted to use it or would that not be a problem?
Sonovel Cage is nice, but cannot seem to get it in Australia.....yet.
The Sonovel Video Cage kit link is pointing to an Amazon product that is already unavailable =(
Great reviews - thank you for reviewing all 5.
Thanks!! so much!! im thinkihng get a cage for canon 80d, your video with information in numbers mm, its perfect! you help me alot before but somenthing!
What do you think of the smallrig cage for a audio setup? That cage, a zoom h4n pro, a Røde ntg 2 or 4+ and a powerbank, with space to uppgrade it like with the Røde filmmaker kit?
Caleb....this was great. (as always) Thanks! Will the Sonovel (which has been difficult to find) work with the GH5? Thank you...
camera cages where fix also a battery grip aren't easy to get, any idea where to get one around that price?
Hi, your videos are great! Got a question, do you happen to know if the first cage would accommodate the xt2 with battery grip?
what do you think about neewer... maybe a video specifically about neewer?
I have a Neewer Cage for my Canon 7D and absolutely love it. The two handles are genius, and the affordability is too good to pass up. The rigging possibilities are endless with that cage.
- Paul
I am an actor from Iceland and the movie was shot entirely on the neewer shoulder rig...
That's awesome!
if you are wondering the movie is called heartstone so check it out
--Baldur
Ok will do!
Super helpful. Thanks Caleb!
Please which of these will be effective with the Canon 5D Mark III?
If you're shooting on Sony would you recommend the Viltrox in your final analysis?
Which one would suit xt-2 with grip, i assume the first one but on Amazon says meant for Canon 80D.? Thanks
Can you connect rods to the Camvate one so that you can put a Neewer Follow Focus with it?
I have a nikon D5100 and I added the duel battery grip to the bottom which adds more hight. I like the last cage, will work with my camera or do I have to remove the duel battery case?
Thanks for your video review. I wanted to get the Camvate rig but I found very different prices to the ones you mention in your video..very disappointing!. $170 CND for the set up that was supposed to be $75 US
Is it possible to configure the Camvate rig, so that the bar and side handle are on the right-hand side?
Lol I was watching this and u said I love cages they r super handy
My mom was like
Wtf r u watching lol
Brilliant video. thanks so much for making it. Would you know by any chance which cage would work best with the GH5?
Caleb the main reason I want a cage is I want to use a SmallHD Focus with my Nikon D750 so I need to protect or hold the mini hdmi into the camera body. Do any of these cages have provision for this, is there a attachment that is sold.
Could you make a video on good budget video monitors... thanks
Caleb, what Camvate accessory are you using to mount the 7" monitor?
What is on top of the hot shoe and under the cage at @1:30
yea I'm diggin that 1st one the most
Which rig would you recommend, if I were to get the Sony A6300 with the "extended battery pack"???
nice vid, man!!! congrats!
There are really a lot of cages on the market today, and that is NICE!!!
how much is a Kaleb? How many centimeters are a Kaleb for the width of dslr videoshooter?
Nice video Caleb! Love your content! I got a SmallRig cage for the a6500 which is really great!
Which one would be best for shooting video on a GH4 while keeping the footage somewhat stable?
Which of these do you recommend on a Sony A6300 with a Meike Batterygrip? Or would you even consider rigging Sony A6300 with a batterygrip? Thanks!
hey man do you know if the first cage can support a canon 700d or a 80d
cheers great video
