I have 25+ years experience with 3D modeling as a profession. About 5 years ago I switched careers and don't do 3D modeling anymore but I still enjoy it and love watching others work. What is so amazing about this video is that the illustration of where everything fits in the spaceship. How many times have you heard someone say "I wish they would add two medium hard points and a larger power plant and this ship would be perfect. This illustration forces you to think realistically on what can fit in a ship based on it's size. Even with my background in 3D modeling, I never really thought about it this way and watching this makes me really appreciate the space inside the space ship relative to what its outfitted with. I recently returned from Beagle Point in my Phantom so this video really made me think of what it could have been like living in my ship for this long journey. This is just simply great.
So... It's actually a rather large space-yacht. Sailing to distant shores on a space-yacht is a beautiful dream. I imagine that a lot of two seat ships are piloted by young married couples who vlog on the future's VR version of RUclips like Sailing Magic Carpet, Sailing Kittiwake, or Sailing Project Atticus.
The wood paneling literally brought out a 70s retro future vibe I needed to literally feel alive! This is better then I could have ever dreamed of seeing. Sometimes I close my eyes and imagine I'm in the crew quarters on my type 10, or python, or really any of the ships I the game. I always imagine them to be so, "industrial", but this! This was definitely what the interior of one of my favorite ships deserved.
I loved the wood as well. There is no reason to have your ship look like a factory like in too many sci fi, as long as you're willing to pay a bit for upholstery (and sacrifice jump range froma dded weight) you can even make it your own little marble palace. If your house was the barebones skeleton that ships are portrayed to be, it would just be a concrete or wooden box with a minimal lick of paint.
I was thinking about giving Elite a try, but I've decided I won't until anything that resembles your concepts are added. Ship interiors just hit that cozy spot and I think can only add tremendously to the gameplay experience. It's like first seeing Han and Chewy on the Millennium Falcon in Star Wars, Jim Hawkins settling in aboard the solar ship in Treasure Planet, even The Planet Express crew going on about deliveries in Futurama. Alien, Sunshine, Star Trek, The Expanse, Riddick, Interstellar, Event Horizon, Moon, Passengers, 2001... all movies that show amazing workspaces. Imagine smuggling, inspections, pirates, boarding, raids. Being sent into zero g, having to defend inside, having to fix damages, changing and upgrading rooms, or even adding mementos to the trophy shelf...space walks? Until ship interiors comes along I'll just be playing Subnautica, vibing in the lava zone, safe in the coziness and comfort of my Cyclops. Love the videos!
To be fair, you make your crew member pilot your fighters physically, and they can (and often do) die on the job. So high pay and good quarters seems fair.
I wish I could donate. I love how you go the extra mile to make content like this. I love being able to better visualize the ships better. Interiors are always appreciated. Keep up the great work.
This guy, and a couple other people have created like 5 out of 38 of the ships interiors, now just imagine if Fdev listened to us and just put a SINGLE team to work with this man.
If Elite allowed us to access just the crew quarters (the other parts being modular are understandably harder to code in) and use ARX to modify the interiors to our liking that would add a lot of fun content.
Mate…this was incredible. I was thrilled watching how you ingeniously put all those modules together in such a snug, logical and efficient manner (props for the truly massive heat sink). Then the vid transitioned to fully visualised interior and my mind was blown. Thank you so much for making this! 🎉
This is so amazing. FRj, please keep doing this. I have enjoyed your work for a while and it keeps getting better. I honestly can't wait to see a full render. Zero problem supporting this, you guys deserve all the support you receive. The Elite:Lore discord always loves your work!
Extremely amazing, I really need to learn how to do 3d modelling and render this good on Blender. You should put the model on VRchat so we can explore it ourselves.
Nice interior but your designer friend has to account for the 0 g environment, because there is no artificial gravity generation (besides spinning ship parts or spinning stations) in elite lore. beside that extremely nice concept.
I rather imagine the ships generally have to be oriented for gravity, since they land on planets. More hand-holds would be nice, though. I won't hold my breath, but the smaller, non-spinning space stations should be oriented entirely for zero-g. Also fleet carriers and such (where they don't have spinning parts). I wonder whether capital ships like the Farragut-class would be zero-g oriented. We have seen them hovering above barnacle sites in the past. How many Gs were those planets at? I guess we'll see how it goes when space-legs comes out...
Absolutely amazing. Always enjoy your work. Zooming into the interior when the box model is finished is a master stroke. Damn algorithm will only let me 'like' once. Don't worry about the zero g nay sayers, furniture can be bolted down, lol. But a zero g toilet might be a good idea lmao.
This goes to show that creating ship interiors isn't as much of a massive undertaking as people think if: if using a system like this, the only part of a ship that needs to be "hand crafted" (therefore unique to every ship) is the crew quarters. The rest of the ship needs only an empty area with designated module slots, as seen in the Viper video. The question is if the ships in the game are actually large enough (or small enough!) to accommodate the kinds of modules they're purported to, and for a few ships like the Viper MK IV, which is barely bigger than the Mk III yet has several class 4s, I have my doubts.
@FRj I really hope Frontier Developments approach you and offer you and your team a chance to work for them. Seriously, your work, all of your work is extremely impressive and we need ship interiors in-game Very Badly. Amazing work!!!!!
Krait work! I love watching these. Awesome job on the interior view. Your Phantom looks nice and cozy inside. I always get that retro vibe from Faulcon Delacy ships, and have imagined there would be wood paneling in at least some of their interiors. Glad I'm not the only one :D
Excellent work, as always! It's very satisfying to see such attention to detail and the thought that has been given to how interiors might work. Here's hoping FDev has you on speed dial!
Mate, you and your friend have done really well. Reminds me of Star Citizen and almost as good which considering how much time, money, designers, and programmers they have working on such things you have done VERY well!
It's been a while since you posted this, but any chance you're still active? I'm in love with the interiors you've created and wanted to ask you some questions, do you have a discord or twitter I could message you on?
I use my Phantom as a mid-range explorer, and I could easily imagine relaxing in those spaces after finding a remote planet to touch down on and watch the sunset.
Your work is incredible, you practically do the work of an interior designer of a game that does not have it, and also, for the love of art. I really, at least, want to continue seeing this kind of content, it's impressive. Thanks for the content!

You sir, are a fucking legend. Since it's been a while, I hope you are doing well in life. When you have the time and energy, I hope you continue to make more ship interiors. I'd love to see the vulture, or if you're up for the challenge, some gutamaya ships!
👌 perfect. Walking around the interiors of these massive ships would bring them to scale and provide a deep sense of immersion to exploration and the game in general.
Now that FDev has announced ED Odyssey, I really hope they consider adding these kind of interiors into the game, mainly because it could really justify the huge amount of grinding required for the bigger ships, and even this one... Awesome work dude! 👏
Another amazing 3D model design and interior demo. I'll be donating in the future, this is amazing work and is partly why I'm diving into Elite again after years of owning it but not playing.
These interiors look far more like Star trek ships with artificial gravity, than an elite dangerous ship would look like. Remember, ships in elite have no artificial gravity, so orientation doesn't matter as much. Metal flooring would also be needed so your flight suits magnetic soles can stick to the floor. Other than that nitpick, those interior designs are great! They would fit very well on a galaxy class or ambassitor class ship from Star trek!
Too small for a Galaxy class. I can see it on an Excelsior-class, though. Heck, even a Constitution-class (Kirk's quarters in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture")
That is a pretty tight layout, nicely done! Only thing I’d change is to split the sensors into two blocks and put them ahead of the maneuvering thrusters, near the antenna, where it makes more sense to put the sensors, maybe incorporating the antennae too. Looking forward to more!
I love the interior (Nice touch with the Cobra-shaped buttons in the bathroom)! amazing job on this one! just wow. i hope you take no offense but some improvements that you could make on the interior for this one is to make it look similar to the cockpit. Since the cockpit is very utilitarian maybe the crew quarters should also have exposed cables and stuff. I just think that it might have been a bit too luxurious. Either way its an amazing job and I am really looking forward to Odyssey!
The krait mk2 MUST have the size 6 optional at the bottom and center to accommodate the SLF hangar. I assumed the phantom and mk2 had very little variations to the interior, but I guess they can be different.
Great work, liked and subscribed. In reality, the interior would allocate more spaces for technical part by right as the directional thrusters would require fuel too therefore the fuel would have links to all thrusters in the side and front as well, not just supplying to main engines alone. There won't be so much cargo space like Milenium Falcon in star wars.

beside that extremely nice concept.
Magnets, lots and lots of magnets in your boots, in your mugs, in your furniture, everything gets magnets!
Oh yeah! In the books, mag boots are used alot. Also the python has corridors that allow access all over the ship.
Mag boots as already mentioned, but there should be lots and lots of hand holds for when the magnetics fails.
