    This thing about the Seymore Duncan SSL-1s has been highly debated. His tech came out and did an interview in which he said John was mistaken, and that they were instead a set from an American Standard with the "delta" hot bridge pickup. But I understood it to mean he took the original pickups out and put in the American Standards, which I've always scratched my head about. So perhaps what you said, about how he discovered X was inside makes a lot more sense.

    one correction in 7:47, John didn't give klinghoffer a guitar after he replaced him in rhcp. Klinghoffer didn't talk it through with him and they stopped contact because of that as John stated in interview, saying he gave him a guitar after he joined rhcp is like he gave him his blessing, welcome gift, false fact that lots of fans fasely repeated "he chose him!!!".

      If you look for photos of John's rig in the BTW or S.A era you will never see that Tele, only on Californication Tour.
      the fans created the myth that John "gifted" him the Tele as a welcome to the band. but the reality is simple, Josh asked for it and JF never bothered to get it back or just forgot about it completely.
      (after all it was just the backup of his main Telecaster)
      lol
      PS: By the time Josh was playing with PJ Harvey he was already using the Telecaster

    I have heard a few times that the radius on the 62 Strat is now 9.5” … I’m not sure if that means John swapped out the neck for a original 1970’s neck that has a 9.5” radius or if he had the original 1962 slab neck filled down to 9.5” radius … given all the recent stories about Fender John Frusciante Signature edition, I hope we get an answer to this neck question soon … 😀

    • @groundguitar
      @groundguitar  Год назад +3

      Don't know if he swapped necks, but I doubt it since Dave Lee said that they planned down John's Strats (plural) to 9.5” to avoid fretting out. So I guess probably many of his rosewood fretboard Strats are now 9.5” on the original necks, while the '55 maple Strat definitely remains stock in that sense since we would see if the fretboard was sanded down.

    Frusciante is a gift. He's a truly inspired artist. He's created some of the most iconic riffs and transcendent solos of all time.
    I'm sure he could create musical brilliance on a Walmart child's toy guitar.
    If you wanna recreate his sound... don't. You can't. Find the unique music that's inside you. Leave the copying to zerox.

    Regarding the 015 tuning pegs, the original pegs were made of ivory. They most likely had to be replaced over the years. I have a 1956 015, and the original tuning pegs had worn away. Most old 015s dont have original tuning pegs.

      Oh good point. I forgot to add that they were changed on John's Martin - photos from a Guitar World magazine show them really well. Does the '56 differ in any way from John's guitars btw? Just asking so I can try to narrow down year of manufacture of John's Martins.

      @groundguitar pretty much exactly the same as john's. They're an amazingly lightweight guitar. You're shocked with how light it is when you pick it up, but the sound is huge and very distinct. They have really low actions and are very easy to play.

    Funny how "vintage tone" isn't vintage tone. It's increased capacitance, resistance, and or component value drift. All these combine to make vintage gear sound different from when it was actually used by original artists from the era
