Thanks for the video! Very helpful. A couple of additional ideas to consider. When a destination (or level 2) charging station or a non-standard plug (such as a 30-amp drier plug or a 30-amp camper hookup plug) is available, it may be useful to have a BEV-rated extension cord. This may be used in conjunction with the portable charging adapter you mentioned, which usually comes with the vehicle (for 110V and 220V plugs). Also, along the same lines, you may also want to consider BEV-rated adapters (called "dog-bones" by some) for the two different drier plug types here in the US and for the 30-amp camper hook-up plug. This way, you can charge at these odd places in a pinch, with the NEMA 14-50 adapter that comes with the portable charging kit that comes with your BEV. Sometimes these plugs (drier plugs and camper plugs) and destination charging access points can be difficult to get to with your vehicle--hence the suggestion for the extension cord to extend the reach of the portable charging kit that comes with your vehicle. Rock on, you road-tripping heroes!

In my Model Y frunk, I carry a small tote with various cleaning microfiber cloths, a CCS to NACS adapter, a tire plug kit, and spray wax. Spray wax works great to clean bugs from the front windshield and front bumper. I keep these items in there, even for daily driving.

Enjoyed the video. Just got back to Atlanta from FL (west palm) road trip in a Rivian R1S. I kept only suitcases with clothing in the front trunk. Any liquids (lotions or compressed containers), batteries (I have an ecoflow) I placed in the back behind the seats as I thought about the crazy high temps during the daytime driving would be an issue. I remember seeing temps 98 to >100F. On the return drive, my dad accidentally placed a cologne bottle in a suitcase which was then placed in the front trunk. It blew up...Couldn't tell it broke while we were driving but...that frunk smelled great when I was emptying it out when we got home....

I carry a floor jack, a spare, tire, first aid kit, reflective vest, and long heavy duty jumper cables in my Ford Fusion.
I am going to miss the tire well when I get my new car.
That air compressor looks really nice.
Developing my frunk survival kit is going to be a fun exercise.

Some additional things I keep in my Mini's boot/trunk are a small fire extinguisher, a Euro-style emergency triangle that the Mini has a dedicated slot for, some spray bottles w/ bug-off and ONR for spot cleans, and most recently a steering wheel tray for the occasional charging stop with a meal. To maximize space and keep things organized, I keep most items in a two-division trunk organizer, or velcro'ed to the sides via tactical pouches or Canopus straps.

Great video. I carry a lot of the same stuff as you. The jump start box is really amazing. I haven’t used it much but it is nice to have when we need it. It is so much easier and safer than jumper cables. I also carry a power station and I use that all of the time. I sometimes use it in the car instead of the car’s built in usb outlets. In most cases, a 120v power outlet on the station will charge phones more quickly than the car but also it prevents the kids especially from accidentally hijacking the audio system in the car. Sometimes they would plug into the car to charge and the infotainment system would start playing music from their phones.

For a road trip we put whatever we do not need (clothes, shoes, etc.) for the drive in our Mach E frunk. When the weather is cool enough I have put refrigerated/frozen grocery items in there.

Thanks for the video. Some very good ideas. I still have the dividers in my 2021 Mach-E. I keep the Ford Mobile charger in the back center partition. A 25 foot heavy duty 120 Volt extension cord that is cold rated (so far only used at home with the power supply for updating the car). A tool to easily pop up the round covers for the battery posts.
I got a case for my Ford NACS adapter from Amazon and also keep it in the frunk or the driver's door. It is the Maoershan EVA Hard Protective Travel case. I think it is originally for the Tesla CCS1 to Tesla adapter, but the NACS adapter also fits. I also carry a TeslaTap in the frunk which has a very short cable so it will not fit in the case.
I got the senior parks pass ($20 a year or $80 lifetime). It really saved money on my Florida trip going to Everglades National Park and other parks in Florida.
Some of the motels I visit have 120 volt outlets for block heaters. I found even Level 1 charging overnight gets you around a 10 to 12% SOC boost. Really useful in the case of staying multiple days with just local area travel during the day.

Welp… one shortcoming of my I5 is that the frunk is so small. The only paraphenalia I have in there are all the cables, adapters, V2L device, portable charger, etc. The only one lacking is a J3400 adapter -which I have already ordered, even though I won't be able to use it for a l-o-n-g time. Nothing else would fit! I just might take you up on the July 21 meetup in Las Vegas!

You can get a free Lifetime America the Beautiful pass if you are a veteran. It is free if you get it from a National Park (most Parks can issue them), or you can get it online for a $10 processing fee.
The odd thing is that active military can only get the annual pass, they aren't eligible for the Lifetime pass.

Good stuff guys. In our frunk we have a Grizzl-E Mini portable charger (L1 and L2 + multiple plug adapters), Lectron Tesla destination charger adapter, a blanket (mostly for protecting the seat backs when we haul stuff), a sun shade (front windshield), a bottle of glass cleaner and a roll of paper towels.
We haven't gotten our Ford / Tesla supercharger adapter yet, but that will go in as well. We tried an A2Z but couldn't get it to lock so we just returned it. Might try the Lectron version as a backup.

Hey, another great video! We've already done two in-california road trips in our Mach-e and will head out this month on another. It would have been nice to have the Tesla adapter, which we do now with the A2Z. I expect our Ford NACS adapter will arrive Septober 32nd. Our son has a plug-in Prius so we stole his Level 1 charger. Unfortunately, I do not own a hula hoop. Safe travels!

@@MachE_VLOG I wish! Drove to Mammoth and arrived with about 15% SoC. Mammoth Lakes ONLY has Tesla superchargers. My A2Z adapter did NOT work at all. We were very annoyed and disappointed. I had tested it in Los Angeles, but was unable to get it to work in Mammoth. Our only saving grace was that the supercharging station was less than a mile from our condo and had level 2 charging. I simply plugged my Mach-e into one of the free the L2 chargers in the evening and was able to get a full charge by morning. We had to walk our 14-year-old dog anyway, so just made it a point to walk to the Supercharging station. I did meet a guy with an F150 Lightning, who had no issues with his adapter.

Why not an apple or sugar cube instead of the plastic fancy pony? Surely we can find a more environmentally friendly exchange.

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  10 дней назад

I love that you're thinking of environmentalism. Unfortunately we couldn't use a food or degradable item for multiple reasons.
We carry the Fancy Ponies with us in our car always, so that we have them when we see another Mach-E. I even carry multiple Fancy Ponies in my purse at all times. We could not do this with something that would rot/spoil.
Same goes for placing an item on someone's car. Sometimes the Fancy Ponies sit on that person's car for hours in the heat. If it was a food item, it would spoil and be awful. Additionally it could invite birds or animals to clamber onto the vehicle to eat the item. We like that the Fancy Pony has pertinence to the vehicle. We give a Fancy Pony because we love our Fancy Pony.
We've talked about 3D printing our own Fancy Ponies and that could allow for the potential to use recycled filament. Perhaps we could even cast or mold with a recycled substance.
I appreciate the sentiment and we will definitely think of ways to make it more sustainable in the future!
Maybe you can start a cool, sustainable EV trinket trend! - Liv
