- Weird Science is a far better movie than we could have expected, insanely funny with some solid underlining messages; though Bill Paxton as a toad will haunt our dreams.

Kelly LeBrock as Lisa is the epitome of '80s pin up girl.
Also, Anthony Michael Hall getting drunk in the bar scene is still one of the most hilarious scenes to this day. He can do both drama and comedy so well.
Personal recommendation for a Anthony Michael Hall film Out of Bounds. Underrated thriller of the 80's.
I'm sooo glad she dumped sifu Seagal and found happiness within. Still fyne af.
You know, it's funny. When I saw "Edward Scissorhands" it took me to the dinner scene to realize Anthony Michael Hall was the bully! My jaw dropped for a long time when I realized. He was all buff, a big tough guy! A far cry from his earlier characters. I always liked him, he was good in Dead Zone (the TV show) too.
EVERY DAMN NIGHT!!?
@@DravenGal The Dead zone is a criminally underrated TV show.
Fun Fact: Chet's haircut was actually Bill Paxton's idea.
He thought it was perfect for the kind of asshole he was supposed to play.
Better yet, he didn't tell anyone he was going to do it. So he just showed up on set like that out of nowhere and everyone just died.
Haha! For Once "A fun Fact" was very fun! RIP Bill Paxton. BTW: "Call me by your name" is dedicated to him, he was in Italy on vaccation and hang around the set, helped out and just gave everyone good advice (without taking credit for it) and was generally a very nice guy I've heard. So when he died, they dedicated that movie to him.
Guys I have depression, I don't love myself and I'm going through a lot of frustration in life, but when I received this recommendation I laughed so much, thank you for making me happy "again", I needed this.
Therapy helps a. Lot.

Same. Every single day is the worse day of my life.
We should go bowling
@@10xero01 misery loves company.
You guys are awesome for speaking your minds.
For the majority of my adult life, every time I see Bill Paxton I see him as Chet, the pile of …
Lisa is like Mary Poppins for teenage boys.
Chet’s haircut is flat on top because it’s, literally, called a flat top.
She's also kind of a sexy version of the Cat in the Hat.
Me too 😂
@@ShawnRavenfire hmm, Julie Andrews or Mike Myers… ewww my eyes can’t unsee Myers that way.
@@c1ph3rpunk Kelly Lebrock, Julie Andrews, and Mike Myers show up in front of you. What are you doing?

Good ear guys! The Weird Science theme was performed by a group called Oingo Boingo featuring Danny Elfman. Elfman has been involved with an insane amount of movie music including many critically recognized work. His music is so freakin' good!
This and Back to School with the Deadman's Party certified classic. 😎
Not to mention the Simpsons theme song.
Sleepy Hollow, Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands too to name a few.
The 80s were wild man.
I miss the 80s. So much fun
80's babies unite!!!
@@andreadeamon6419 We actually were able to watch movies without wringing our hands in offense over any behavior that wasn't acceptable in real life
@@yournamehere6002 I watch younger people watching our movies and the comments they make cracks me up. Wanna give them a pacifier and tell them to go night night - it's the big peoples time
What!? You REMEMBER it? 🙂
"This is like, my worst nightmare. I HATE people"
"Maybe I'll be there . . ."
LOL
Bill Paxton (Chet) decided Chet needed an Assshole Haircut, so he went out and got the douchiest haircut he could think of and showed up for filming. Very much wasn't what Director John Hughes was expecting, but he ended up loving it. One of the best improvised additions to character design by an actor in the history of film.
It’s called a Chicago Boxcar. Flattop with fenders. D-Day from Animal House has the same hairstyle.
Came here to find & like this comment 😉
Fun Fact! Christie Brinkley was original Cast as Lisa but she got a high heel stuck in a storm grate and was late to the studio. Kelly Lebrock was there just to use the bathroom and she got cast!
Chips, Dips, Chains, Whips...... that was our line!!!
All us Gen-X kids quoted Chet lines pretty much our whole adolescent and adult years after this movie... also "she's into Malakas Dino!" 😅
I to this day, still do Chet’s weird reverse door opening move. 😂
One of the craziest, off the wall, whacko light hearted movies, and these guys turn it around into a serious discussion about life balance.
Impressive.
One of the greatest 80s movies ever! Bill Paxton killed it😂
In the movie they never really explain what Lisa is but in the show they make her an electric genie and the computer is her lamp.
Today she probably would be some generative AI with extra powers running wild.
(Yes that could be an idea for a remake. No I don't think it would be any good …)
@@Cau_No Current technology could make it amazing, but current culture would neuter it into a sad shell of its former self.
The show was surprisingly good.💙
Show is the same name I'm guessing? I'll check it out, sounds cool.
I think even if they remade it today, Electric Genie is still a good entity premise.
'DO YOU REALIZE ITS SNOWING IN MY ROOM GODDAMMIT!' That line kills me every time. LOL!
Original song, "Weird Science" by Oingo Boingo. The lead singer of Oingo Boingo was...Danny Elfman.
Great blast from the past. Loved this movie as a kid. Nothing will beat the nostalgic feeling of 80’s movies.
Anthony Michael Hall was so freaking funny in this movie 😂😂😂
Yes 🤣 That whole bar & car scene afterwards are the best 😂😂
His drunk voice was a callback to The Breakfast Club when he got high. Same voice.
Too bad these idiots thought normal teenage behavior from the pre-internet porn days was creepy merely by Gary being interested in sex with girls.
Weird Science and Sixteen Candles were both filmed in the fictional town of Shermer , Illinois. And the exterior shots of the high school were the same as Risky Business and sixteen candles. ❤
Yes... and The Breakfast Club.
Filmed in Highland Park, Lake Forest Northbrook and other surrounding suburbs of Chicago.
I wouldn't be surprised if "It happened in Shermer, Illinois" was its own tropes page.
What Are The Odds?
Weird Science, Sixteen Candles and Risky Business all filmed at Niles East High School in Skokie, IL. School closed in 1980. Now it is the East campus for Oakton College
Yes, and Shermer High School.
“Are you all right?”
“Well my NUTS ARE HALF WAY UP MY ASS BUT OTHER THAN THAT I’M PERFECT!”
I love this movie 😂
Hell yeah, classic! My family still occasionally throws out the line “he don’t even have his license, Lisa!!” When it’s relevant to the situation.
Kelly LeBrock was the BOMB in the 80s....she was so hot, she was "the BOMB" about 15 years before people started saying such and such was "The Bomb"!
Parliament/funkadelic were using "the BOMB" back in 1975. You probably mean before white people started using "the Bomb"
"Who's this 'Gary' character you're talking about?"
Ha Ha Ha.. Gaarrryyy...
Gary? Gary? Ah, Gary!
Gary!
Watch The Road Warrior and The Hills Have Eyes to understand the bikers at the end of the film.
Yeah, that biker boss guy looking like out of a Mad Max movie was actually from a Mad Max Movie …
Detroit's Own Michael Berryman Jupiter from The original Hills Have Eyes.(1977)
The biker who didn’t want to “lose his teaching job” was in a Motley Crue music video.
Smokin’ in the Boys Room
Drunk Gary walking away from Chet: “He’s a asshole, look at his haircut, anybody with a haircut like that, you KNOW he’s a asshole..”
Drunk Gary is a fountain of wisdom.
💯.
One of my favorite movies of all time since childhood. Such a masterpiece
People keep saying that they’re not strong female characters in the past. Lisa in my opinion was the baddest female movie character of all time.
Yes a very young Robert Downey Jr. who becomes the future "Iron Man"
RDj was considered a huge Hollywood loser cause of drugs and he couldn't catch a movie break since the 80s. Somehow we all forgot after iron man. He got lucky
@@joeblow8206 He has several great movies that were well respected before Iron Man. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was probably his comeback movie, and he got an Oscar nomination for Tropic Thunder. All before Iron Man.
@@jasonremy1627 I lived it. Ask anyone who did. No one wanted him like a redheaded step child. In the tabloids almost overdosing multiple times. He almost got cancelled for tropic thunder many times and it is still an issue
@@joeblow8206 Robert Downey drug problems was not until mid to late 90's, early 90's he was still respected.
@@LarryBonson coke all in the 80s bud grow up when I did
This is definitely one of John Hughes’s Underrated movies! Glad you guys reacted to this one! You gotta do Sixteen Candles next!
The song "Weird Science" is bu Oingo Boingo. You may be familar with the lead singer who becane film composer Danny Elfman.
Main song and probably soundtrack was Oingo Boingo with lead singer, Danny Elfman. Danny Elfman is responsible for some of the best movie soundtracks of the last 40 years.
This movie is the reason why James Cameron wanted to invite Bill Paxton as one of main side characters in his new Alien movie soon known as "Hudson", the "Game over man!" dude
*_SIGH! Be still my childhood heart!! 😁👍 Weird Science is one of those favorite movies from my childhood! I don’t think there was a movie like it before it and there’s never been one like it ever since! Pure fun teenage fun!_*
Ok, now you have to watch Back to School with a young RDJr as well as Mr. Rodney Dangerfield.
Definitely. Oingo Boingo sang Dead Man's Party for the soundtrack.
29:20 I'm loving this conversation just about bad 80's hairstyles.
This is one of the 80’s movies that raised a lot of 70’s and 80’s young boys…😂
The old guy with the deep voice at the bar was in "Jumpin' Jack Flash," "Terminator," and "Road House" (the Patrick Swazye version).
And Chet wasn't a toad; he was a pile of poo!
He was also the voice of the rental car lot bus driver in Planes, Tains and Automobiles. Such a classic.
The old guy was also in House Party (jail scene) and Action Jackson.
Lisa is basically a computer generated genie that can do anything, without the limit of 3 wishes.
Welcome to 1985! I was the same age as these characters in the film in 85’ ( Jr in HS) . Saw this the night it came out like every John Hughes movie. The greatest films of the 80’s . Check out Fast times at Ridgemont High by Cameron Crowe next Cameron Crowe
“She’s into Malacas, Dino” is the greatest line in this movie
The "Weird Science" song was an Oingo Bongo hit of the 80's.....Danny Elfman all the way.
Chet's flat top haircut was pretty common with military types.
A couple recommendations: Wargames with Matthew Broderick and Porky's.
I'm dying to see reactions to Porkys, Revenge of the Nerds and Bachelor Party.
I mean, hey, it’s John Hughes. You just have to trust him.
Haha this movie is so damn 80's! From the fashion to the music and vibes! I love it, its one of my favorite movies!
FYI I think Chet's hair was supposed to be like a military-style buzz-cut. A flat-top as they used to call it. Definitely an 80's style that thankfully went away
That banger of a theme song for Weird Science is by a band called "Oingo Boingo", you may have heard of their lead singer Danny Elfman.
If not, for some background he is the creator of the music for "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (as well as the singing voice of Jack Skellington) "Beetlejuice" "Edward Scissorhands" and most of Tim Burton's other movies as well as the theme song for "The Simpsons".
How did u skip the batman theme???
I was a young teen when this movie came out n this has always been one of my favorite 80s movies.
Chet's haircut was called a flat-top, & was popular at the time amongst those who were enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. I think it may be why people used to refer to them as, "Jar-heads." 😅
High-N-Tite
Chet was a turd, not a toad :)
Break out the greasy pork sandwiches and dirty ashtrays!
Back when I was about 14, I went to a Bar mitzvah in South Africa and got very drunk on Tequila slammers... the older brother of the kid having the Bar mitzvah saw me in a real mess and tried to make me sick by doing this Chet impression at me, and I projectile vomited on his legs... good times good times
Kelly LeBrock in Weird Science reminds so much of Elizabeth Hurley in Bedazzled . Its eerie how similar they are.
The haircut of Chet's is what was known as a flat-top it was popular from WWII up until the mid-60s.
Weird Science, War Games, Electric Dreams, Whizz Kids... Computers were so much better in the 80s :)
How about Hackers?
@SyzygyNoon Hackers was 1995, can't really be classified as an "80's" movie. Hackers is another classic though!!
Tron.
Also "Automan", a short-lived TV show about a hologram turning real.
@@DucatiendoMN You got me, diagonally. _Pac-Man death sound wap-wap_
Thank you so much, guys, for having a real sense of humor.
So many of the other channels really snubbed their noses at this movie.
They whined and complained that the jokes and subject matter were graphic and inappropriate.
which it is not when the subject matter is teenagers.
So, thank you for laughing along and not being a buzz kill to an 80's comedy.
Oh shit! They're going to watch one of my childhood favorites!
And call Gary "creepy" for being a horny teenage boy, as if that's abnormal behavior, when it's not only normal but the whole engine of the premise.
Chets haircut was a popular haircut from the 80’s called a flattop
Oingo Boingo was the band, they also did the song "Dead Man's Party" in the movie Back to School.
Ellfman is amazing, and his movie scores are some of the best in the business.
The actor at 22:50 is (Vernon Wells) Bennett from Commando
You guys will remember that villain with the chain vest 😅
29:02
Fun Fact for you guys:
The group that did the soundtrack for this movie was Oingo Boingo, which was the band that Danny Elfman, the guy who scored the soundtrack of the 1989 Batman movie starring Michael Keaton, was the lead vocalist of
Head biker guy is Vernon Welles, aka Bennet from "Commando".
Computers could do everything in the 80s !
Except for drive ferris bueler around for a day
I am so glad you guys enjoyed this movie! It is one of my top 5 favorite Hughes films of all time! 😁
SUCH A FUCKN CLASSIC….Chris n Curtis shout out to y’all 4 reacting to this movie…first off dis my favorite movie of all time…it’s comedy, classic n surreal
If you liked this movie check out Back to School (1986)
Flat-top haircuts were popular for decades; especially in the military for service members who wanted something different but still be within regulations.
The theme is by Oingo Boingo, aka Danny Elfman
Fellas!!! Thank you, today I needed a distraction and you've provided it. Your line "its mad max, and ian" killed me. You guys rule!
The concept is pretty interesting as it starts out with two guys who have no social skills wanting to create a program (initially) that can be used to practice how to approach a woman for successful dating. I mean, think about it, you could have it based on the idea of percentage and odds in that you would type what the latest fashion trends are, popular music, social interests and background, historical geographical interests in terms of what type of men women of a certain region go for and use this and more to test what would be your best chance to approach a woman of a certain style and look in terms of what to wear, types of music you should show interest, conversational starting point and so on. Its not that far fetched in today's AI and Apps world.
Those were the parties we had in the 80s lol great times. Great reaction 😂
Chet wasn't a toad it was the poop emoji with arms and legs.
Saw this at the movies the first day it came out. An 80s classic. You're dropping wolf bait, and there's chicks outside.
Fun fact, Bill Paxton,
shaved his head like that, he said it would make his character more douchie
So Lisa didn't turn Chet into a toad, he was actually a pile of s**t with toad capabilities. Hence the way he said to Wyatt "Sorry for being a.....s**t to you all these years."
Real genius is another great 80's movie that's along the line with this movie. Just not as corny
If you liie this one, you should definitely react to Revenge of the Nerds!!
Chet is one of my favorite Paxton roles, he's so funny in his assholery. Even the school bullies have their moments.
"Gary was just takin a sh$t."
Weird Science band is known as Oingo Boingo which is Movie composer aka DANNY ELFMAN's band which Danny Elfman and band star in another movie in 1986 known as (Back to School) starring Rodney Dangerfield, Keith Gordon, Sally Kellerman, Burt Young, Robert Downey Jr
And William zabka (Johnny Lawrence)
He’s a very accomplished composer also. People would be surprised at the movies that he’s written the score & or songs for. Everything from the Men in Black & Marvel franchises to movies like Silver Linings Playbook & Good Will Hunting. He seems to like working with Tim Burton. Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands & Beetlejuice are just a few examples. I always think Oingo Boingo when I hear his name though, what a great band!
Bill Paxton was in a Film called Near Dark (1987)
I recommend it
My favorite Canadian twins with 80's European villain hairlines has been on a role lately 😅
Fun fact, the bald guy talking about teaching job, is the principal in Motley Crue’s “Smoking in the Boys Room” video
Between this and Hard To Kill, Kelly had a lot of peoples attention. I like this better than a bunch of teens trying to kill each other.
Hubba hubba Bill Paxton's tushi!! 😮💋💖💖💖💖
Flat Top haircuts were huge in the 80s!! Flat tops and sweet, sweet mullets. Show a little love 😅
Love this movie. Had this on vHS - yes im old, lol. a great 80s sci-fi classic. Life was so different back then, haha
Bill Paxton filmed Aliens then flew back to the US and filmed this movie.
You guys are really bringing back my childhood with movies like Willow and Weird Science, I love it.. While you goes are on this trip you should also check out Labyrinth
Such a great classic 😻👹🎆
I forgot how hard the music slaps 😊
OH GARRY......You told me you was combing your hair. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This film came out in 1986, long before home computers were the norm and about a decade before the internet became widespread. This film is like imaging today what AI will be capable for in 10 years, but also making a parody/mockery of that potential future.
Me and my sister when to the movies to see this. We were cracking up the whole time. We liked it so much we stayed in our seats and waited for the next showing. Back then this was common to see a movies multiple times in a day or theater hop.
She turned chet into a piece of crap Making his outer form resemble his inner form.
This, the B.C. Planes Trains Automobiles, & 16 Candles are the best of Mr.Hughes.
21:26 Ooooohhh! Hitting Deep! Right In The Feels!
Robert Downey's mall outfit that y'all hated...that was 80s fashion for ya. It was a free-for-all and looked like we were all trying to out-stupid each other!
