When this movie came out I had just moved back home from getting divorced. I was emotionally destroyed. One night my good friend invited me out to the theater to watch Paul. For about 2 hours my troubles were gone. Just me and my friend laughing feeling like kids again
"Get away from her, you bitch !", is a line that Sigourney Weaver used in the aliens movie. This movie is the perfect sci-fi reference and nerd movie, made for nerds, by other nerds. I love this movie !
I was staying in Hollywood on vacation when this movie premiered, and I lined up with other fans across the street from the Chinese Theater. All the actors came out, and Nick Frost and Simon Pegg were kind enough to cross the street and meet the fans (pose for pictures and sign autographs). It was an experience I will never forget.
@@moviesbye9294 ehh i cant say ive heard of anyone speak of it since it releaseish till this video and everyone i know liked it alot so probably appropriately rated to slightly underrated in the zeitgeist of no one ever brings it up.
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were in a TV show in the UK called Spaced. It was wrote by Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes. Directed by Edgar Wright. It ran for two seasons.
This movie has so many in jokes and homages to Spielberg's films (and others.) My favorite I am sure lots of people know is the bumper sticker "Watch the Skies" is actually the working title to Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Also, when Spielberg heard about this film, he wanted to do a cameo. Gotta love it.
This movie is one of my favorites. A love letter to science fiction films, it calls back to a bunch of them, from Close Encounters of the Third Kind to Aliens to Starman (not to mention The Blues Brothers and Lorenzo's Oil). Hilarious! (My only gripe is the whole secrecy thing about who The Big Guy is. Sigourney Weaver's voice is way too distinctive for there to be any mystery about it, LOL.)
Exactly. This movie is a love letter to sci fi movies and their devoted fans. So many references in this movie and a stacked cast. I really enjoyed y'alls reactions and your commentary here!
I've been suggesting this on every reaction since every reaction channel went through their Cornetto Trilogy phase. That was before Patreon when channels actually read YT comments. I gave up a few years ago, around the pandemic and still patiently waited another 4 years. Basically what I'm saying is It's about damn time someone somewhere watched this movie.
@@OctoKrool That's pretty rare nowadays. I've been watching reaction channels for since the early 2010 and for the most part they don't read comments anymore, all their videos are inspired by money rather than a love of movies. Patreons may have the money but they almost always seem to lack any real knowledge of movies outside a dozen or so of their personal favourites, while folks like me who can't afford to send money to reactors do have extensive knowledge of movies because that's where our money goes, real cinephiles, are ignored. I always try to match reactors with movies, for you guys I would suggest 2 movies that are oddly connected; The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare based on the true story of Operation Goldfinger which inspired the sci-fi cult movie The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Ian Fleming was one of Churchill's military strategists when he put together the Ministry led by Major Gus March-Philips the inspiration for James Bond. The League came out in 2003 and didn't do well in theatres, nobody really understood the plot, if you watch The Ministry first then The League is a much better movie and makes more sense.
My late wife (7/29/23) and I had three movies we could turn on and we’d both agree. This was one of the three. She was once an American in Britain. This is two British nerds traveling the American west. Keith Nash! And I like how the 3 soldiers at the end lived and weren’t treated as collateral damage.
Fun fact guys, when they say "you should go" and she goes! It's a reversal of the same joke in "Spaced" Simon Pegg says the same line, but means "no, you should go now" 😆
I wish you had included their return to ComicCon, that was the perfect full circle moment! The minute I saw your thumbnail I knew you would like this. Seth Rogen has the perfect snark to be A.L.F.!

The show actually features some familiar faces from the Cornetto Trilogy, but ultimately it's a very irreverent take on twenty-something existence in London around the turn of the century.
