I gotta say here, for how much he claims the skits evolved his channel, they were what introduced me to the channel in the first place....and made me leave. Not to mention it foreshadowed just how pretentious Doug Walker would start becoming for later videos. But still, this is another great video here, and I hope you and everyone here has a Merry Christmas!
Admittingly I do enjoy some of his recent reviews. Yes I have a soft spot for more skit based reviews, and I like the more down to earth side of him where he's not raging his ass off every second he's on camera. Is his current content for everyone? No. But its a guilty pleasure for me.
@@maxtubb Fair enough. Like I said his content ain't for everyone. Kinda like "Fred". I personally think the old "Fred" videos are harmless fun in short bursts. The movies on the other hand.........never again.
I'm SO glad someone actually got to talk about Doug's recent videos from 2020 to now, and in a positive way. Every recent video I see discussing him and NC NEVER mentioned them, and I'm glad somebody did.
Just because one spoke in favor, doesn't mean his "work" has gotten better upto now, he's still the same un-entertaining, try-hard who squandered his craft, and I'm glad more out there is giving his mederocrity a scathing that it deserves. I pity you so much.
I do miss his videos without skits because it can get annoying but I get why he can’t just do an 8 minute review for each video. Stuff like the AVGN TMNT movie reviews are pretty good. If you wanna see a RUclipsr who does movie reviews that are basically a guy in front of a camera with good skits watch The Unusual Suspect. He reviews the movie with skits, good edits, green screen skits and are pretty entertaining. He takes a bit to make a new video but they’re definitely worth the wait. Doug was the inspiration for the unusual suspect and many others so the nostalgia critic has been an important part of the RUclips community and scene.
Gosh, I think back to AVGN's "The Last Ninja" video, how I watched it for the first time with a fear that James was about to smugly mock the audience for liking the old reviews... It turned out to be a lovely video, making it clear that James did not forget his roots, and doesn't want to leave those who like his old stuff behind............ I can see that Doug decided to say things a bit differently 😅
I think it's one of the best AVGN episodes in quite a while, partially since it feels like a decent tribute to the classic AVGN episodes from 2005-2012
Before I watch this, I must say that I saw this review. I think this was one of the last reviews by him that I saw before I lost interest in him for his "I'm right; you're wrong" mindset with almost any given review. It made me feel a bit uncomfortable at times even though I agreed with a bunch of his thoughts on the movies he reviewed. Also thanks to CinemaSins, I learned that many reviews of movies were double edged. They either were like "this is exposition" or they were like "who are these characters and why should I care?". Either way, there'd be an error in the movie even though you can either have exposition or not. Have cases like that spread across movies and reviews quickly become disingenuous. Welp, I remember ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from this review, so I'm gonna edit my thoughts and memories after the fact. Just wanted to put that out there before I watched you talk about a review I watched but don't remember
Alright, checkpoint #1: You probably knew this but all of Doug's videos that got taken down which lead to him starting his Where's The Fair Use were in violation of Fair Use since they could be used as ways to watch movies without having to purchase or get them via the publisher. His review format may have contributed to RUclips adding the system where they let companies claim videos which is the main copyright soup we've all been stuck in over the past decade. I actually really liked his Dr. Seuss reviews even though I didn't agree with them because it felt like he genuinely cared about these properties and how they were treated. Same goes to his Live Action Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory reviews
Checkpoint #2: The Episode I remember this episode, but like I don't. I remember him being a POS to his older fans like myself and I remember him (not) reviewing this movie, but these are entirely separate memories. This may actually have been the episode that gave me such a bad taste that I left and never turned back now that I think about it, but I'm not sure. Either way, I hated this video and I think your choice of review was a 10/10 choice. I uh have nothing to say about his review though because he had no review in that review so I'll keep this one short (pfft 2 paragraphs is short with me)
Checkpoint #3: The Present These reviews seemed neat and I probably would've liked it, but there's only so much good will I'm willing to give to somebody and he did a great job at drying it in that clip era. I also didn't know he retired this type of review. I feel like they worked really well when done right... the only one I saw that I felt he did right was Jurassic World
Finale: I really like the spin you put into this with second chances, but at the same time, he was already in his fourth chance with me when Change the Channel dropped. I'm accepting of people who see the good in him and are willing to forgive his incompetence, but going back myself is a bit too far. Huh... I put more effort into this than Doug put into half his videos
CinemaSin type critiques give aspiring writers like me the feeling they can’t win one way or another. Although if you can tell they’re looking for things to get angry over (akin to “anti-woke” pricks), it’s a bit funny.
it felt like the inverse of the DOS Mega Man AVGN episode, only instead of coming off respectful to the fans, it was spiteful and treated them like morons who are better left ignored
I gotta recommend the almightylolis channel awesome movie reviews, apparently alot of the change the channel doc was bullshit, mixed with some serious stuff
I've watched those videos around 2 months after I uploaded this video. Dude really did a good job at dissecting the more skeptical parts of the doc and they're also fun to watch. Especially the Atop the Fourth Wall movie video lol
@@PlatinumYoshi yeah, I hope he does doogcember again, tho I dont know if he'd wanna review "reviews" His Hogwarts legacy video was also good but angering
That description feels misleading. He’s not usually funny, not much of a critic, and presumably a man. I liked that ending speech the first time I saw it, but I only saw it in an isolated clip.
Meh I usually like his content, even though I often disagree with his takes. Cat in the hat is a objectively bad movie, but i like it, same as the Grinch. And thats ok to have different opinions even if his opinion seems pretentious. What i didn't know is he retired and came back, also didn't know about his shitty work antics, which that isn't ok, hopefully that got better
Say remember when in the it chapter 2 review, theres a shooting reference by the stalker girl character in the beginning. Yknow, when the review was screened in a movie theater. After the infamous las vegas shooting happened in a MOVIE THEATER
F*** anyone who thinks Nostalgia Critic was right to bash Sailor Moon, The Wall, Howl’s Moving Castle, Bridge to Terabithia, The Jungle Book (2016, and yes, there is one live-action Disney remake I would defend to this day if no other), Osmosis Jones, Big Hero 6 (2014), The Powerpuff Girls Movie, 101 Dalmatians (1961) and so much more!

The channel of B-Mask brought that up too, but I’m glad more channels do it.

And many of those others ended up fading into obscurity and better forms of reviews and content creators took over and surpassed him.
