They only get trashed because of what Mattel did with Hit Entertainment’s properties. Also, I can see why their Wallace and Gromit DVD could be considered terrible, due to some of the music being changed and the audio being lower-pitched due to improper PAL to NTSC conversion.
@@TheRandomEntertainer-o5r I see a lot of Thomas fans trash the company for how they handled it (even though IMO the HiT model series was LEAGUE's better then the era's that came after it like Nitrogen CGI era despite it's similarities and All Engines Go) but honestly I agree Mattel ruined a lot of HiT's magic from the late 90's and 2000's. You know if HiT Entertainment never created this autoplay, it wouldn't even exist and I honestly don't even know why they consider it as "autoplay" when it's basically a shitty version of Disney's Autoplay but 10x times WORSE! But overall this was a good video, and I like how you used so many goddamn AVGN clips in this video which it makes the video pretty funny!
I have a Wallace & Gromit DVD from 2007 that was released by HiT and Fox. Auto Play was at the very start of the disc (after the logos but before the previews), making it more similar to Disney’s FastPlay, but it frustratingly plays all three shorts in reverse order (A Close Shave, then The Wrong Trousers, then A Grand Day Out)
You should do a video on Lionsgate's autoplay feature. It's basically an image of some of the characters from the show the dvd has, with a narrator saying that for fun special features, press the menu button on their remote control, and then the show starts. The has appeared on some Clifford, Care Bears, Doodlebops, and Koala Brothers DVDs from the mid 2000s. Some of them have different variants. One Care Bears dvd has an animated selection screen similar to Disney Fastplay, the doodlebops dvd has a filmed bumper, and the koala brother’s DVDs have music. The ones with no music like the Clifford DVDs are nightmare fuel because of how eerie they are.
I remember HiT Entertainment Autoplay and the Lionsgate logo when I was little on my Thomas and Friends, Barney & Friends and Angelina Ballerina: The Next Steps DVDs it's a little teeny bit like Disney's Fast Play.
We are so back! Also I never noticed this until now, but your voice reminds me of Daniel T. Gaming, especially at 0:15 (Not trying to insult you here btw, I actually like that fact).
I actually never found the Auto Play feature annoying. It's actually nostalgic to me because I grew up watching many Thomas and Friends DVDs, and I still have them today.

It's early morning for me, I am in my bed in severe pain and cannot sleep. I have never heard of this channel before but I am watching this to keep myself sane. Thank you 💚
Paramount tried it's own Fast Play thingy with a menu varient for Paramount DVD. The good news is that Paramount was wise and steered away from the Fast Play style that Disney and Hit Entertainment did by making the Previews button play the previews before the main menu.
Hit Entertainment has continuous random play in the UK on some old Hit Children’s Favourites DVDs. UK DVDs also played sneak peaks at the end. Also there was the Hit Parade - a bunch of adverts that you don’t have to watch. I’d love to see a video about all that. I can give you more information if needed like what DVDs to get.
Ah yes, time to play the video… after a bunch of ads! OH WAIT… it’s just two of them. Curse you YT for trying to be like Auto Play 😂😝 Also, the part where you did talk about Fastplay-esque sequences did kinda remind me of smth nobody else has said before. When I had some Clifford DVDs growing up, there was this screen after the trailers with an announcer saying to get comfy and enjoy the show, along with them saying that you can access Bonus Features by clicking the Menu button. After the lecture, it just jumps straight to the program, no main menu at all. 😳⁉️ I thought this was a fake memory, so when I searched up Clifford DVDs on YT and played some openings, it turns out that I wasn’t lying at all. WHY MUST YOU DO THIS?! And the fact that these were ALSO distributed by Lionsgate doesn’t help matters at all. I mean, it is nice for them to play my beeg red doge without the need of a remote, but you still have to go through a bunch of trailers to get to it, so I can’t really call it an improvement 🥶
I recently rented a Batman: Forever DVD from the library that has absolutely no menus or trailers. After popping the disc in, it would just play the WB home video logo and then jump straight into the movie, no ads for upcoming releases or anything. Get on my level. (Edit: Although it did appear to be a double-sided disc, the ones that would show the bonus features if you put the disc in upside-down)
9:25 Random comment, but the Thomas and Friends The Great Discovery DVD’s trailers are about as long as an episode from Thomas and Friends from Seasons 1 - 7 (those episodes being about 4 and a half minutes long). The episodes from Season 8 onwards are longer than the first 7 seasons
5:49 it wasn't always highlighted on Main Menu by default. The early Disney DVDs that are equipped with FastPlay have FastPlay as the default option. my former copy of Classic Cartoon Favorites Starring Mickey had FastPlay as the default option.
As a longtime fan of the OG Thomas the Tank Engine series, I can relate. I collected and watched the Thomas DVDs, and I had to skip through the ads for other HiT Entertainment properties by pressing the Next Chapter button on my DVD remote. I would have strongly preferred if the Auto Play option came before the ads rather than after. However, I will give HiT credit; they knew how to market Thomas the Tank Engine; they brought Thomas back to PBS (he previously aired on that network from 1989 to 1997 as part of the Shining Time Station spin-off), and while the effort wasn't always in the writing, it was definitely in the merchandise; not only were the DVDs everywhere, but so were high-quality merchandise lines like Wooden Railway, Take-Along, and Trackmaster, and children and collectors couldn't get enough of them despite that fact. Thomas' merchandise sales were the reason why in 2009, HiT shelved Barney the Dinosaur to focus more on Thomas, which was a good thing because Barney was only made to appeal to little children and had no substance for older viewers, whereas Thomas' stories frequently dealt with mature subject matter such as abandonment, scrapping, near-death experiences, and the dismissal and threat of new technologies like diesel fuel and air travel. Sadly today, Mattel is doing the exact opposite of what HiT did; sending Thomas to the scrapyard (by decreasing the quality of both his series and merchandise lines and the quantity of the latter) while simultaneously bringing Barney back from extinction.
Looking at the comments, I’m gonna assume I was the only one numb to the HIT Entertainment Auto Play screen, probably due to my sister being really hyperfixated into Thomas growing up (she still is to this very day). Also, gotta love how you were questioning the media automatically playing after the menu theme has looped when the same thing happened whenever I were to watch either Toopy and Binoo or Max and Ruby on DVD growing up, given the DVDs I had of those shows were distributed by Treehouse TV and Kaboom Entertainment, with the only difference between those DVDs and the one you presented is that the Treehouse TV DVDs would have a countdown on the upper left corner of the main menu screen
back at my old preschool while we waited for our parents to pick us up our teacher would play us episodes from a Bob the builder dvd and the hit autoplay menu that appeared before it started ended up being repressed in my mind for so long. jumpscared me when this video appeared in my recommended nearly 12 years later
Thomas, Barney, Bob The Builder and the original run of Pingu are all owned by Mattel now. However I don’t see them doing anything similar to what Hit Entertainment did around 15 years ago.
That's sad I remember all of these IP's when I was young. Even though the new Barney is pretty interesting that's not to say I like it (The OG is always the best. either that or you hate Barney cause you think he's scary Lol) and less about All Engines Go the better (it's a good kids show just not a good THOMAS show)
I don't know if anyone would remember this, but certain DVDs, mainly ones with kids shows, would actually have a countdown on the main menu from 10 and when it hit 0 the program would just start. Just like how a lot of dvds would autoplay after the menu music is done playing. The countdown wasn't really scary because there was still the normal main menu music playing but it would still make me scramble for the remote in a panic. I mainly saw the countdown on my Max and Ruby dvds if anyone remembers that show.
@@PlatinumYoshiI think she’s referring to the Canadian dvds of Max and Ruby, I assume you had the paramount u.s dvd’s, the Canadian dvds is a different distributor than the u.s
i have a dvd that came from hit entertainment autoplay and i don't know if you heard this already, but the autoplay mean the movie is going to play by itself with no interruption, so i have the 4 friends dvd and it includes four show in all of one disc it's shows autoplay if i press autoplay the show will automatically show the show after that episode it'll go to the next one without going to the main menu to find the next episode. You brought back my childhood with hit entertainment autoplay and disney fast play.👍thanks
nickelodeon also tried to jump onto the fastplay bandwagon, but never actually used it in any of their tapes it was actually lost media for some time before the intro made for the practice was actually found
7:32 There’s the bumpers that premiered on the Artisan VHS tapes in the year 2000! (It’s quite funny how they don’t have any sound on the bumpers on DVDs containing the 2006-13 Lionsgate logo.)
6:11 there’s also a paramount DVD menu that pops up once you insert a DVD you got a new narration but instead you got some Erie sounds instead no narration which means you could be able to navigate the menu as much as you want before time is up
Even though Paramount is still an excellent Company probably as much as Warner Brothers in Disney was , but to be honest I don’t think frightening people using a pop up two option DVD menu from 2004 would be of their taste
I forgot to mention this on the Fast Play video, but I actually compared the length of the Fast Play bumper menu to the infamous Sonic Drowning theme… and the time span of ones are almost perfect enough that one could add the fast play feature sound to their Sonic modifying (or vise versa)!
I own the first edition of the Fraggle Rock: Complete Third Season DVD (HIT Entertainment/Fox release from 2007), and that's where I first found this screen years ago. What's funny about it being on that DVD is that none of the five discs from that set had any trailers at all, they all just started with the attention screens, the Auto Play screen, and the disc's menu if I skip the Auto Play screen, otherwise the episodes just start anyway.
We never got this in the uk. We did get a hit parade (basically from like 2002 till 2006 on a bunch of uk DVDs there would be a option on the main menu that would send you to another menu that was basic as hell with a play all option and logos of shows that would change every so often, it would mostly be just there theme songs but at the end it would have some DVDs or vhs’s that were out at the time, the only ones that wasn’t the theme song was certain big releases like the first Bob The Builder Project Build It dvd and Barney’s the land of make believe, and believe it or not, the wiggles, where it would play the start of the tv series 2 theme before going to 1 of 4 songs, then after the song it would show the 1 of 5 versions of an out now/out soon thing. Anyways sorry if this was long I honestly don’t know how to word it better)
In the early version used from 2007 to mid 2008 you know where the curser is on the main menu and they don’t mention bonus features it worked like fast play if you hit auto play it would play 2 or 3 trailers and go to the features if you hit main menu it would go to the main menu if you wanna see go online check the openings to one of these DVDs here are the following DVDs that are like that Barney’s You Can Be Anything Barney Celebrates Around The World Barney’s Animal ABCS Thomas And Friends Milkshake Muddle Bob The Builder Xtreme Adventures Bob The Builder Top Team Bob The Builder New To The Crew Hit Entertainment Springtime Fun Hit Entertainment Summer Fun The Wiggles Racing To The Rainbow
And I thought Disney's Fast Play was pointless, I'm glad HiT didn't use this on their UK DVDs, of which I had the ones for Fraggle Rock, Pingu, Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam, you should honestly try doing the BBC Children's DVD bumpers
I recently got a cheap region free dvd player for my basement tv, which had this weird built in “quick play” mode hidden in it that plays the movie instantly when you put in the dvd, skipping all trailers and even the menu! I’ve thrown a ton of DVDs at it and it works nearly every time! It only gets a little confused with dvds with multiple episodes of something on it. I have no idea how this feature works or how common it is in players now, but I had never seen a player with this built in option before
I think how it works is that it detects the largest file on the DVD, and plays it. I use a program named DVD Shrink and whenever I load a DVD, usually it detects the largest file on the DVD, and it is usually the movie
Can I still say that I have A LOT of positive nostalgia for HiT Entertainment DVD's? The ones from the early mid 2000's were awesome not only did they omit the auto play but they have animated menu's and LOT'S of content. I remember the Thomas DVD's had menu games, read along, HiT Extras which would have bonus episodes of other shows or previews, the character gallery and DVD ROM games as well. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was disappointed with the HiT Wallace and Gromit DVD's though they were weirdly inconsistent and the content on them was shit and they had the low pitch US audio as well.
Actually Auto play is even more useless on certain Thomas DVDs it gives you an option to play the feature once or play it continuously which plays the same exact content that auto play claims to offer

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks their W&G DVD's were trash too the menu's were pretty bland and lot's of the content was reused from past DVD's
The sequel you've been waiting for.
I have a Wallace & Gromit DVD from 2007 that was released by HiT and Fox. Auto Play was at the very start of the disc (after the logos but before the previews), making it more similar to Disney’s FastPlay, but it frustratingly plays all three shorts in reverse order (A Close Shave, then The Wrong Trousers, then A Grand Day Out)
“Gromit lad, I can’t eat my cheese and crackers when Hit auto play’s on my TV screen.”
So did I
You just unlocked a childhood memory.
Great video and high quality! Can't wait to see new videos
I only saw the Auto Play feature on a HIT Halloween DVD compilation (with Thomas, Barney, etc.) but it still makes me nostalgic
The amount of nostalgia I get from this is UNREAL!!!!
It's been a very long very long time, glad you're back 🥳
I remember HiT Entertainment Autoplay and the Lionsgate logo when I was little on my Thomas and Friends, Barney & Friends and Angelina Ballerina: The Next Steps DVDs it's a little teeny bit like Disney's Fast Play.
We are so back! Also I never noticed this until now, but your voice reminds me of Daniel T. Gaming, especially at 0:15 (Not trying to insult you here btw, I actually like that fact).
i wanna see a collab with platinum yoshi, daniel t, and andy milonakis for no particular reason
Just what I subscribed for Hit Entertain Auto Play lore
I actually never found the Auto Play feature annoying. It's actually nostalgic to me because I grew up watching many Thomas and Friends DVDs, and I still have them today.
This Disney DVD is enhanced with Disney’s Fastplay! Your movie and a selection of bonus features will begin automatically. To bypass Fastplay, select the main menu button at any time! Fastplay will begin in a moment!
I recited that from memory
This unlocked a core memory for me
It's early morning for me, I am in my bed in severe pain and cannot sleep.
Paramount was probably the prognosticator of the whole "Fastplay" thing.
Unfortunately that variant of the logo was only seen on DVD's from 2003 to 2004. A darn shame, really.
@@IsaiahStover Okay.
@@IsaiahStover Actually it again appeared on some TV show DVDs from Paramount and CBS from November 2005 to October 2006.
@@paramountkid413 Dang now I wish it was used more often
Do I dare mention the inspector gadget dvd menus? Lol! Great video as always!!!
You mean the ones for Super Show and Sonic SatAM? Those are funny as hell LOL

I remember seeing this on Hero Of The Rails.
I remember seeing this on a ton of Thomas dvds I have!

Curse you YT for trying to be like Auto Play 😂😝
Also, the part where you did talk about Fastplay-esque sequences did kinda remind me of smth nobody else has said before. When I had some Clifford DVDs growing up, there was this screen after the trailers with an announcer saying to get comfy and enjoy the show, along with them saying that you can access Bonus Features by clicking the Menu button. After the lecture, it just jumps straight to the program, no main menu at all. 😳⁉️
I thought this was a fake memory, so when I searched up Clifford DVDs on YT and played some openings, it turns out that I wasn’t lying at all.
(Edit: Although it did appear to be a double-sided disc, the ones that would show the bonus features if you put the disc in upside-down)
Atleast Independence Day’s 2000 DVD had a unique way in incorporating the auto play idea in the menu
9:25 Random comment, but the Thomas and Friends The Great Discovery DVD’s trailers are about as long as an episode from Thomas and Friends from Seasons 1 - 7 (those episodes being about 4 and a half minutes long). The episodes from Season 8 onwards are longer than the first 7 seasons
im amazed that you managed to make front facing yoshi cute and not cursed in the thumbnail
You can thank my friend @RenaNeraLuv for that lol x.com/RenaNeraLuv
5:49 it wasn't always highlighted on Main Menu by default. The early Disney DVDs that are equipped with FastPlay have FastPlay as the default option. my former copy of Classic Cartoon Favorites Starring Mickey had FastPlay as the default option.
HOLY SH*T I REMEMBER THIS ON MY THOMAS DVDS
Honey wake up, PlatinumYoshi uploaded a new video!
Leeetts gooo the king has returned
2:35 I never found FastPlay scary, but THIS menu was unsettling to me as a kid.
As a Thomas fan this screen is what o would see so many times when playing DVDs
I remember having a DVD of Shaun the Sheep that had select episodes. This was the first thing that came to my mind.
As a kid, Hit Autoplay was more unsettling than Fast Play, mostly cause of how static it was compared to the more animated Fast Play menu
Sadly today, Mattel is doing the exact opposite of what HiT did; sending Thomas to the scrapyard (by decreasing the quality of both his series and merchandise lines and the quantity of the latter) while simultaneously bringing Barney back from extinction.
as a fellow thomas fan i am glad to see someone share the same sentiment
I own some of those DVD's particularly Berenstain Bears
My Thomas And Friends DVD nostalgia: I still have em :)
We need you to talk about the you wouldn’t steal a car psa
back at my old preschool while we waited for our parents to pick us up our teacher would play us episodes from a Bob the builder dvd and the hit autoplay menu that appeared before it started ended up being repressed in my mind for so long. jumpscared me when this video appeared in my recommended nearly 12 years later
This screen genuinely unnerved me as a kid ngl

Ad: Red Veggie Curry!
Thomas, Barney, Bob The Builder and the original run of Pingu are all owned by Mattel now. However I don’t see them doing anything similar to what Hit Entertainment did around 15 years ago.
That's sad I remember all of these IP's when I was young. Even though the new Barney is pretty interesting that's not to say I like it (The OG is always the best. either that or you hate Barney cause you think he's scary Lol) and less about All Engines Go the better (it's a good kids show just not a good THOMAS show)
As a RUclipsr with over 16K subs who makes too much HiT logos, I think this goes to my top favorites.
That's really interesting actually. I remember owning a Max and Ruby DVD back when I was a kid, but I don't remember any sort of countdown thing lol
@@PlatinumYoshiI think she’s referring to the Canadian dvds of Max and Ruby, I assume you had the paramount u.s dvd’s, the Canadian dvds is a different distributor than the u.s
Ah okay, yeah I grew up with the US release sincd I live in the US so that makes sense lol. Still interesting tho
@@WWOfficial7 Yeah I'm from Canada and I haven't seen any without the countdown. Also I am a girl.

Wait, let me get this straight.
HiT Entertainment, of all companies, wanted to compete with Disney Fast Play!?
Apparently. They even copied what they said almost word for word.
Me and my friends have been joking around with HiT for years
i have a dvd that came from hit entertainment autoplay and i don't know if you heard this already, but the autoplay mean the movie is going to play by itself with no interruption, so i have the 4 friends dvd and it includes four show in all of one disc it's shows autoplay if i press autoplay the show will automatically show the show after that episode it'll go to the next one without going to the main menu to find the next episode. You brought back my childhood with hit entertainment autoplay and disney fast play.👍thanks
nickelodeon also tried to jump onto the fastplay bandwagon, but never actually used it in any of their tapes
it was actually lost media for some time before the intro made for the practice was actually found
right as i say this, he brings up the topic
god dammit
i never expected a follow up to this but it’s peak
7:32 There’s the bumpers that premiered on the Artisan VHS tapes in the year 2000! (It’s quite funny how they don’t have any sound on the bumpers on DVDs containing the 2006-13 Lionsgate logo.)
I remember having a thomas great race DVD and the fast play wast last, it always scared me too
I used to have this Wallace and Gromit DVD that had the Hit entertament auto play on it. good times
Originally in 2007 some Hit DVDs would start with Autoplay, then the trailers. I saw this on my DVD of Thomas Milkshake Muddle.
tbh I pretty much prefer disney fast play instead of HIT auto play, because of nostalgia and stuff but I agree with you.
Somehow, FastPlay returned.
How tf have I never heard of HiT Entertainment Auto Play????
I forgot to mention this on the Fast Play video, but I actually compared the length of the Fast Play bumper menu to the infamous Sonic Drowning theme… and the time span of ones are almost perfect enough that one could add the fast play feature sound to their Sonic modifying (or vise versa)!
I remember I used to watch this during my childhood, good memories.
I’m pretty sure Disney DVD automatically plays Fast Play from the main menu sometimes
i have never even heard of this before and yet…the video compels me…
i see you got the Mater's Tall Tales and HIT Entertainment dvds which I had ever since I was a young kid
Interesting to know honestly, no need to apologize for being wordy lol
Every time when i would pop in a barney or thomas or kipper dvd, so nostalgic.....
In the early version used from 2007 to mid 2008 you know where the curser is on the main menu and they don’t mention bonus features it worked like fast play if you hit auto play it would play 2 or 3 trailers and go to the features if you hit main menu it would go to the main menu if you wanna see go online check the openings to one of these DVDs here are the following DVDs that are like that
Barney’s You Can Be Anything
Barney Celebrates Around The World
Barney’s Animal ABCS
Thomas And Friends Milkshake Muddle
Bob The Builder Xtreme Adventures
Bob The Builder Top Team
Bob The Builder New To The Crew
Hit Entertainment Springtime Fun
Hit Entertainment Summer Fun
The Wiggles Racing To The Rainbow
We can’t forget about the rubbadubbbas!
And toddworld
Welcome back!
OH
We are so back
I swear the script on that reads like copying another kids homework.
7:36 Bob. He build.
This logo is bringing back the Thomas vibes from these days.
I remember hearing that and scrambling to find my remote before it ends and forces me to go to the main menu
Like my thought process was “i gotta find the remote or I gotta put in more work!”
Actually Auto play is even more useless on certain Thomas DVDs it gives you an option to play the feature once or play it continuously which plays the same exact content that auto play claims to offer
