It Took Him This Long To Respond To My Tweet...
WORTH IT!!!
out of curiosity how long did it take
3 years lol. Not that the video took super long to make, it's just I was busy with other projects and life stuff at the time
It’s so funny to know that The Wiggles: Racing to the Rainbow dvd release is the only Wiggles dvd to have auto play as it’s the final video to be released by HiT Entertainment as the North American distribution rights were to given to Warner Bros.
never in a million years would i think someone (other than me) would touch upon hit entertainment's auto play and i never thought it'd be you of all people
Me: Mom can we have Disney’s fast play?
Mom: No, we have Disney’s fast play at home
Disney’s Fast Play at Home:
People like to say that Disney Fast Play is scary and/or traumatizing. But I would argue that this is more so considering that at least with Disney’s version, there’s at least some cool visuals , a much more energetic narrator and some background music. With this though, you have almost none of that. Just a still image with a white background with a very bored-sounding narrator and no music. I would argue that this would be more scary to see at night in a dark room with the lights off rather than Fast Play,
HiT Entertainment was an interesting company. I've actually thought about doing a video about its history.
I remember this screen since I watched a lot of Thomas & yea I never understood as a little child why it was there when it was the last screen, it was also a little unsettling to little me because like you said the lack of music and the tone of the narrator made me uneasy, this was fun to watch,
Great video!👍
I used to have that on several Thomas DVDs as a kid, glad you actually done an analysis vid regarding HiT's "very own" *Auto Play*
youtube: hey you wanna watch someone complain about kids dvds
me: ... yes
7:35 Weird how a trailer for Loaf and Death says coming soon in a multi pack with Loaf and Death.
Paramount tried it's own Fast Play thingy with a menu varient for Paramount DVD. The good news is that Paramount was wise and steered away from the Fast Play style that Disney and Hit Entertainment did by making the Previews button play the previews before the main menu.
Paramount was probably the prognosticator of the whole "Fastplay" thing.
"For your convenience, this DVD has been enhanced with Hit Entertainment's autoplay. Your program and a select of bonus features will begin automatically. To bypass autoplay, select the "main menu" button at any time. Your feature presentation will begin in a moment. Enjoy!"
*”This Disney DVD is enhanced with Disney’s Fast Play. Your movie and a selection of bonus features will begin automatically. To bypass Fast Play, select the main menu button at any time. Fast Play will begin in a moment!”*
“Nickelodeon designed this DVD with NickSkip technology. Your program will instantly play without delay. To exist the NickSkip experience at any time, please press the top menu button on your remote control. Enjoy!”
When I first saw this video with the auto play thing, I felt lots of anxiety. But also some nostalgia too.
The sequel you've been waiting for.

"And I was greeted with... "
Ad: Red Veggie Curry!
Thomas, Barney, Bob The Builder and the original run of Pingu are all owned by Mattel now. However I don’t see them doing anything similar to what Hit Entertainment did around 15 years ago.
I have a Wallace & Gromit DVD from 2007 that was released by HiT and Fox. Auto Play was at the very start of the disc (after the logos but before the previews), making it more similar to Disney’s FastPlay, but it frustratingly plays all three shorts in reverse order (A Close Shave, then The Wrong Trousers, then A Grand Day Out)
“Gromit lad, I can’t eat my cheese and crackers when Hit auto play’s on my TV screen.”
So did I
5:49 it wasn't always highlighted on Main Menu by default. The early Disney DVDs that are equipped with FastPlay have FastPlay as the default option. my former copy of Classic Cartoon Favorites Starring Mickey had FastPlay as the default option.
1:30 something I hate about modern DVDs is how little bonus content there is (and in some cases, not even a scene selection.) the magic of DVDs in my opinion was all the cool bonus content. I love a lot of the older DVDs from stuff like Veggietales or (more on topic with the video) Thomas and Friends, because they had so many cool bonus content to see and do. Modern DVDs just feel like Streaming with Extra steps considering how… empty the DVD menus feel. I wish that DVD menus would have effort put into them again.
We're in the Streaming era you know.. DVDs have very little bonus content because We're in the Streaming era.
@@UrLocalSplatoonFanGuy I know. And I don’t care if we’re in the streaming era now. The bonus content made older DVDs so cool. And bonus features help make DVDs stand out from Streaming. I honestly wish that both Streaming and DVDs can co-exist. That way there can be the option.
Actually Auto play is even more useless on certain Thomas DVDs it gives you an option to play the feature once or play it continuously which plays the same exact content that auto play claims to offer
I remember seeing more of the blue HiT logo which was more common on my Wiggles dvds since i had basically every one of them. I might've had two dvds with this logo, The Wiggles Racing to the Rainbow and i think Garfield and Friends?
I've never given it this much thought tho this was very interesting and nostalgic. Well done!
How tf have I never heard of HiT Entertainment Auto Play????
tbh I pretty much prefer disney fast play instead of HIT auto play, because of nostalgia and stuff but I agree with you.
As a former thomas fan the 2nd worst thing this company did was get rid of most of the grungy rural british feeling the orignal model series had and it continued to get more child friendly until we get all engines go which has no looming shadow of dark themes and grundy industrial settings the original and cgi series had.
Originally in 2007 some Hit DVDs would start with Autoplay, then the trailers. I saw this on my DVD of Thomas Milkshake Muddle.
Ah yes, time to play the video… after a bunch of ads! OH WAIT… it’s just two of them. Curse you YT for trying to be like Auto Play 😂😝
Also, the part where you did talk about Fastplay-esque sequences did kinda remind me of smth nobody else has said before. When I had some Clifford DVDs growing up, there was this screen after the trailers with an announcer saying to get comfy and enjoy the show, along with them saying that you can access Bonus Features by clicking the Menu button. After the lecture, it just jumps straight to the program, no main menu at all. 😳⁉️
I thought this was a fake memory, so when I searched up Clifford DVDs on YT and played some openings, it turns out that I wasn’t lying at all. WHY MUST YOU DO THIS?! And the fact that these were ALSO distributed by Lionsgate doesn’t help matters at all. I mean, it is nice for them to play my beeg red doge without the need of a remote, but you still have to go through a bunch of trailers to get to it, so I can’t really call it an improvement 🥶
I remember seeing this on Hero Of The Rails.
Honestly as someone who grew up watching Thomas during the CGI Era (Which was when this Autoplay was first being used)
I'm so glad that they didn't have the menu loop
As for some reason during my early years of watching DVDs, I lacked a Remote to navigate the menus Unless if I used a special app on My Mother's T-Mobile Phone
Oh yeah and the Anchor Bay Thomas DVDs didn't loop as well (Thank God)
9:25 Random comment, but the Thomas and Friends The Great Discovery DVD’s trailers are about as long as an episode from Thomas and Friends from Seasons 1 - 7 (those episodes being about 4 and a half minutes long). The episodes from Season 8 onwards are longer than the first 7 seasons
THE RETURN OF THE KING
Wait, let me get this straight.
HiT Entertainment, of all companies, wanted to compete with Disney Fast Play!?
Just what I subscribed for Hit Entertain Auto Play lore
Do I dare mention the inspector gadget dvd menus? Lol! Great video as always!!!
You mean the ones for Super Show and Sonic SatAM? Those are funny as hell LOL
I have this on ALL my old DVDs mainly my Thomas and fireman sam collection
EDIT: I accually have a 2007 and 2016 release dvd of the shows.
This logo is bringing back the Thomas vibes from these days.
i see you got the Mater's Tall Tales and HIT Entertainment dvds which I had ever since I was a young kid
I used to have this Wallace and Gromit DVD that had the Hit entertament auto play on it. good times
This was also on the Thomas dvds released by 20th Century Fox not Anchor Bay.
I recently rented a Batman: Forever DVD from the library that has absolutely no menus or trailers. After popping the disc in, it would just play the WB home video logo and then jump straight into the movie, no ads for upcoming releases or anything. Get on my level.
(Edit: Although it did appear to be a double-sided disc, the ones that would show the bonus features if you put the disc in upside-down)
I was just thinking about this thing the other day. I watched a lot of HiT's shows like Thomas and Bob the Builder on DVD growing up, but I never really understood why they felt the need to have this "feature". You already have to wait through a lot of ads on the discs before the menu even appears, especially on Lionsgate releases, and this feature doesn't help with that at all. I thought as a kid that it was sort of useful if you didn't have a remote for some reason, but as you showed, many of their DVDs, especially ones issued by Lionsgate and Fox already autostart the DVD once the menu loop is over, which makes the autoplay menu completely pointless.
We never got this in the uk.
We did get a hit parade (basically from like 2002 till 2006 on a bunch of uk DVDs there would be a option on the main menu that would send you to another menu that was basic as hell with a play all option and logos of shows that would change every so often, it would mostly be just there theme songs but at the end it would have some DVDs or vhs’s that were out at the time, the only ones that wasn’t the theme song was certain big releases like the first Bob The Builder Project Build It dvd and Barney’s the land of make believe, and believe it or not, the wiggles, where it would play the start of the tv series 2 theme before going to 1 of 4 songs, then after the song it would show the 1 of 5 versions of an out now/out soon thing. Anyways sorry if this was long I honestly don’t know how to word it better)
Interesting to know honestly, no need to apologize for being wordy lol
As a longtime fan of the OG Thomas the Tank Engine series, I can relate. I collected and watched the Thomas DVDs, and I had to skip through the ads for other HiT Entertainment properties by pressing the Next Chapter button on my DVD remote. I would have strongly preferred if the Auto Play option came before the ads rather than after.
However, I will give HiT credit; they knew how to market Thomas the Tank Engine; they brought Thomas back to PBS (he previously aired on that network from 1989 to 1997 as part of the Shining Time Station spin-off), and while the effort wasn't always in the writing, it was definitely in the merchandise; not only were the DVDs everywhere, but so were high-quality merchandise lines like Wooden Railway, Take-Along, and Trackmaster, and children and collectors couldn't get enough of them despite that fact. Thomas' merchandise sales were the reason why in 2009, HiT shelved Barney the Dinosaur to focus more on Thomas, which was a good thing because Barney was only made to appeal to little children and had no substance for older viewers, whereas Thomas' stories frequently dealt with mature subject matter such as abandonment, scrapping, near-death experiences, and the dismissal and threat of new technologies like diesel fuel and air travel. Sadly today, Mattel is doing the exact opposite of what HiT did; sending Thomas to the scrapyard (by decreasing the quality of both his series and merchandise lines and the quantity of the latter) while simultaneously bringing Barney back from extinction.
as a fellow thomas fan i am glad to see someone share the same sentiment
OH
We are so back
Universal has this thing where if you select “Play”, the extras play automatically after the movie and that’s it. Albeit overkill (depending on how many extras and how long), it’s still pretty considerate. I’d say the same about Sony, but I think they play previews too.
Oh yeah, I forgot Universal would play some extras after the feaure plays. At least with the newer releases
We are so back! Also I never noticed this until now, but your voice reminds me of Daniel T. Gaming, especially at 0:15 (Not trying to insult you here btw, I actually like that fact).
It's been a very long very long time, glad you're back 🥳
This screen genuinely unnerved me as a kid ngl
Honey wake up, PlatinumYoshi uploaded a new video!
Leeetts gooo the king has returned
HOLY SH*T I REMEMBER THIS ON MY THOMAS DVDS
Buy more old HiT Entertainment DVDs and make a sequel to this
I swear the script on that reads like copying another kids homework.
I remember watching Thomas and Friends DVDs when I was a kid.
I think for some weird I find hit auto play is nostalgia in my opinion because I grew up owning thomas dvds and I really just press auto play button and it starts the episodes I think it was whale of a tale and curious cargo but yeah it is pretty bad on the Wallace and gromit dvds😬
I remember seeing these in my Thomas and Friends and Shaun the Sheep dvds
We can’t forget about the rubbadubbbas!
And toddworld
2:35 I never found FastPlay scary, but THIS menu was unsettling to me as a kid.
I have a Thomas DVD with hit auto play and it takes like 10 minutes to get to the dvd screen and it’s ACTUALLY UNSKIPPABLE SO I JUST RUN TO MY ROOM IUNTIL I HEAR “for your convenience-“ AND THEN I GO BACK AND SKIP IT WHEN HITTING MAIN MENU BECAUSE ITS IDIOTIC
Who knew HiT would make such an unsubtle and lazy looking Fast Play feature? At least with Disney, they understood what they were doing while HiT or either Lionsgate didn't really care.
I always forget that people enjoy dvd menu’s and fast play
6:11 there’s also a paramount DVD menu that pops up once you insert a DVD you got a new narration but instead you got some Erie sounds instead no narration which means you could be able to navigate the menu as much as you want before time is up
Even though Paramount is still an excellent Company probably as much as Warner Brothers in Disney was , but to be honest I don’t think frightening people using a pop up two option DVD menu from 2004 would be of their taste
6:11 So if you ever think that the Disney fast play with bad? All of those hit entertainment bits thrown in with the fast play junk are that times infinity
5:37 Siri hit entertainment version is basically nothing which is bare-bones version of fast play menu
We need you to talk about the you wouldn’t steal a car psa
Common Yoshi W
Wait till he sees paramount dvd
7:40 8:39 the sheep is off the baa.
4:26 BARNEH FOIN CRAZEH
YOU KINDA SOUND LIKE MELODY NOSURNAME
Y’know there’s kind of a 3rd one. 20th Centure Fox’s skipping the menu altogether thing so yeah I own Ice Age and Ice Age 2 on DVD and for some reason yeah it just skips the menu it doesn’t even let me change the language to my preferred way it’s Swedish or pressing the damn main menu button on my remote, really weird if you ask me.
1. I dare you to make more HIT videos & Fast Play Videos.
2. What do you think of Thomas & Friends? (Note: Mattel butchered Thomas)
1. I wish but like I said in the videos, I can't find other Fast Play stuff and I feel like I already said what I need with both
2. I honestly haven't seen much of Thomas but I did see the first few episodes of the original show and it was super charming. I thiiink I've seen Thomas and Friends at some point but my memory is vague on that lol
@PlatinumYoshi I heard Mattel butchered Thomas thanks to All Engines Go.
@@bringbackpbskidsgo4562 I heard so too, but I'm not that invested in Thomas to care much so lmao
@@PlatinumYoshi Aw.
Mate, it's been four years already. I doubt anyone else besides half the fans would care.
What a random topic.
I think the last dvd to use autoplay was Journey Beyound sodor in 2017
Its Amazing you can get 14 minutes out of talking about Dvd Ui's I can only do 8
I'm only familar with Disney's fast play........
Can You Review Thomas And Friends Or A Retrospective On Hit Entertainment ?
okay nerd! ☝🤓

Can you do a video of the actimactes these guys are made by microsoft in 1999
The sad thing is Disney STILL does fast play in their DVD's to this day.................why?
I have no idea, it just feels like it's gonna stay here forever lmao
@@PlatinumYoshi I also have the Blu Ray version of "Wallace & Gromit: The Complete Collection"..........and it cost 70 bucks. Why? The slipcover.
@@supermariof0521 Goddamn LOL, I got mine for 25 bucks brand new and sealed but without the slipcover lol
@@PlatinumYoshi I guess the slipcover is rare.
