This is a very under-informed review. I own the 2024 Silverado EV and your impressions are not on the mark. It's a full sized pick truck that is very confident to drive and tow with. Your review also did not adequately address the functionality of this vehicle as a working pick up truck. The unrealistic 2024 RST sticker is $96k but can be bought for $85k. The 4WT can be brought down to $65k at the dealer. The 2025 will start production September 3rd 2024 and start at $55k plus a $7500 incentive puts the Silverado EV in the upper $40k range. That is Silverado ICE pricing.
I really appreciate this comment. I'm waiting for my 2025 reservation to come to order, and I'm constantly seeing reviews by truck guys and non-truck guys with differing takes. The truck guys seem to generally like it, even if not all of them are sold on EVs generally. The non-truck guys tend to complain about ride quality and handling. It's enough to concern me, but my last vehicle of several years was an F-250 6.7L diesel and I loved it. I think much is being made of the fact that the truck doesn't handle like a car.
I’d always recommend test driving one for yourself! I could be way off base from your perspective or perception of how it feels to drive, remember I’m just a random guy you met on the internet. 😉 I’m definitely not a “truck guy” as the only trucks I’ve owned are Tacomas and an FJ nothing full size or heavy duty. So other than the super trucks with very legit suspension (specifically the Raptor R) I don’t think full size trucks handle well at all, but this Silverado EV I thought was especially horrible to drive. A light duty truck shouldn’t weigh 9,000 pounds especially with a payload capacity not much over 1,000 pounds. I don’t understand what problem exists that this truck is the tool or solution for it lol. But to each their own, I don’t know what I’m talking about because I don’t tow or haul or do big truck things and I really value how well or dynamic and stable vehicles feel on the road.
The Cybertruck is selling for about $150,000 , even though the msrp is a lot less . You can get the Silverado ev RST for about $90,000 and it can drive 150 miles more per charge , it tows better and further , and the mid gate makes it more practical . So preference is a beautiful American freedom , but sensibility is just sensibility . The Rivian pickup is better than the Cybertruck and the Silverado ev sits on the throne for now . And you internal combustion engine diehards are just gonna die hard , because the ev pickups have only been around for a couple of years and they are already better than the ice counterparts . They are not contributing to the greenhouse gas problem , zero noise , less moving parts equals less to go wrong and don't forget that in the event of a power failure any ev can power your home . Bring on the rebuttal , cavemen and cavewomen , just let's debate facts please . That's all I got and I'm out 🎭
I appreciate your perspective and the points you brought up! I don’t think EVs hold their value at all. No one wants the risk of replacing a $10-25k+ battery once out of warranty. Also the used Cyber trucks I’m seeing are currently just over base MSRP. And other EVs like the Plaid are selling for around 60k on the used market after only a couple years (they use to be 130k and now 90k MSRP). I definitely think EVs have their place. But I don’t think they’ll ever be mainstream or own over 50% of the market. At least not for a few decades. The Silverado EV on paper does seem to be fairly decent compared to the other trucks. But with how poorly it drove, I don’t think it’s worth even 45k. Granted I don’t need a full size truck. But taking well over an hour to fully charge the battery, buying new tires every ~15k miles, and driving a minimally capable off road truck just doesn’t sound like the kind of truck that would make sense to most of their buyers, in my opinion. And especially when it’s costs as much or more than say even a Ford Raptor, which at least has the cool/special factor. Also this has a payload capacity of not much better than a mid sized truck lol. And if it tows less than many other full size gas trucks, which more commonly also have 32-36 gallon tanks resulting in an unloaded range of 800+ miles I just don’t see how this truck makes any sense to truck people. You’ll save a little bit on the fuel source (probably) but you’ll eat that cost up and then some in depreciation, more expensive insurance/registration, 2x as frequent tire changes, and then the opportunity cost of spending 90k for a truck that’s no more capable than a 50k truck. Those are just a few of my thoughts. I honestly didn’t think I would dislike this truck as much as I did haha, but driving a 9,000 pound truck on 24’s felt like garbage compared to even normal full size trucks, that don’t even drive that well lol. 🤪🤷♂️
I personally loved the Chevy Avalanche. I own 2 of them in the pass, and a 1 Cadillac escalade ext. So I have a Tesla model S and when I heard and saw the Silverado EV I fell in love with it. I test the vehicle 3 times on the road and on the highway and I had no issues or problems with the steering. I tested the steering like the gentleman in the video and I did not get a response like he did. I'm also impressed that for the weight of that truck it sure can move when you hit the pedal. I did the numbers and I got a RST down to $89,000 out the door. Just waiting on a different color of the truck because they only have white and black. Overall the truck felt awesome. And lastly what was not mentioned was the leg room in the back!! Super super leg room. Larger that the EXT and Avalanche. We'll thats my two cents!!😊
Ngl the commentary isn’t that good but I understand it’s a heavy electric truck on heavy wheels. All the new electric vehicles r gonna be heavy asf until they can figure out a way to downsize the battery without losing anything else. Give it time🤷🏾♂️
Totally understandable, this was basically just a one take impromptu review of it and not a dedicated review. EVs don’t usually do super well with my pre existing audience so I mostly just wanted to drive this without planning ahead much when I wasn’t sure what to expect anyways. And obviously it was not my favorite driving experience lol. But you’re right, EV trucks can only improve from here… and they needs to, lol.
Thumbnail says "don't buy one until..." Oh don't worry. I wasn't going to. and 9 seconds into the video you showed why. $96k for a truck is completely insane. Automakers need to come back down to reality.
Absolutely! The price (at least for this high trim level) and the way a 9,000 pound truck drives is not something I see a lot of people being interested in lol. But it was cool to finally drive one, even though I missed the sport mode button. I think I’m actually glad I didn’t accelerate any faster in this behemoth lol.
