@@Thunderbolt-ws7qm it doesn't mean that at all. Insurance rates are based on hundreds of factors- most of them based on your risk of causing liability to others, the most expensive part of insurance for providers. Believe me, they're making money on my $1600 because chances are very low that I'll even file a claim.
@Cttechexpress: You implied that your reasonable insurance rates are attributable to your vehicle choice. Do you believe your vehicle's qualities will result in a lower frequency or severity of claims? My thoughts: The avoidance technology is likely no better than that of a recent model Toyota Corolla (producing a similar frequency, other things held equal). Also, the expensive materials, manufacturing processes, lack of repair facilities and knowledge, along with added weight - will increase the severity of both collision and liability claims.
@Thunderbolt-ws7qm yeah maybe people who drive Rivians have low insurance risk. Maybe Rivians having advanced driver assistance, a front crumple zone the size of a Honda Prelude along witn a low center of gravity, and a 5 star+ safety a crash rating have been determined to be less likely to be allow the occupants to be injured. We'll never know exactly without a direct comparison for the same driver. I also own a Model S Plaid, which is older and worth slightly less, and insurance is 50% higher in that.
I'm sure the landscaping companies towing their trailers through my neighborhood will be STANDING IN LINE to pick one of these up. How many lawns do you need to mow to pay for a $100,000 truck with 8% interest?
🖐 this is not a work truck by any measure, it’s too pricey and you’d be afraid to scratch it, never mind load it with a work load. (Loaded it up and try and get 200 miles out of a full charge!)
The weight on all of these electric trucks is just insane. I don't care what tricks they come up with to make it "feel" lighter to the driver, there's no overcoming the physics behind it weighing 2x the average vehicle. I'm glad they're all 2x the price too. The battery power density is just not where it needs to be.
@awv9600 you have it a$$ backwards extremely low center of gravity and torque from electric motors is the force that makes it "feel" lighter to the driver. (just the nature of any BEV over ICE) I agree the battery density will be improved over time, no one now has it where it needs to be in 2024. BEV has reached nominal price parity with ICE in 2025 releases.
Simple test----live with this for a year and drive it every day in every kind of weather. Tow a travel trailer behind it during family road trips. Log every mile, charge times and costs. Distill the data and see if it's anywhere as good of a daily as an ICE Silverado.
I get the idea of coming in high, but the 350 mile battery, no rear steering and coil suspension would maybe have scared off fewer folks with the price tag, and weighed 1000+ lb less while having better payload capacity.
Cold doesn't have nearly the effect on range you think it does. The battery packs heat up under use. Leave it plugged in overnight, and it will start the day preconditioned.
@drivencarreviews Can you reach out to GM about adding a camp mode option to the HVAC. Seems like a real miss when the max time the HVAC will run Is 1 hour. With the pass through you could use the HVAC to heat/cool the bed for camping.
EV trucks could be a powerful enticing vehicle for the American public if they weren't so darn expensive. ICE trucks are expensive as it is, but because the vehicle is an EV it shouldn't have a 10% or more markup than its ICE counter. I wish more companies made smaller truck EV's. I would love to see a Maverick EV type/sized vehicle. I think it would be a hit.
No CarPlay is nuts and will bite GM in the ass. It might not matter as much with trucks, but people who don’t give a shit about anything but efficiency, value and range also care about connectivity and features. They just bricked 60% of the US market. Watch it come back in an OTA update after they renegotiate with Google in 2 years. GM, read my lips, WE DON’T WANT ONSTAR.
@mrabrasive51 Most pick truck customers in 2024 only drive 20-30 miles on average daily. Why pay for it if you do not use it. The 14 module battery option in the 2025 Silverado EV LT trim will be coming in at low $50k and nicely featured too. That is price parity with ICE.
I would say the 80k pound semi's take care of most of the damage. If a road cant handle 8-9k pounds it wasn't built correctly. I haul a dump trailer that has max capacity of 14k pounds on top of the 5-6 pounds for my truck.
GM's Steve Warner for being the EV program engineering manager does NOT know ev terms. 205 kwh battery? How have customers put in or used around 212 kwhs. It does NOT charge at 350 kwhs, it charges up to 350 kw (not kwh). Steve Warner has a 50kw charger on his HOUSE, WOW. He must have three phase 440 volt with a 115 amp breaker to power a 50 kw DC fast charger in his home. I think he must have miss spoke! 19 to 22 mph on 50 kw charger! That is terrible! Oh, a 50 amp kw, what the hell! Ok, for non engineers, he has a 240 volt plug with a 50 amp breaker and a 9.6 kw EVSE. 240 x 40 =9.6 kw. Steve Warner, please say your terms correctly as a lot of EV drivers know ev terms. This was not a good look for you.
Nice truck, but $100k? Well I guess it takes that massive battery to get 400 miles of range. Now if the can only get than range into the cars I can afford.
It's nice, but as I've said before, EV's right now are mainly play toys for the rich. $95k? A top trim Chevy Silverado in 1987 was about $13,000 (equivalent to about $36,000 today). Back in the days when an anyone could afford a Silverado truck. Even base trims were only $9100 (equivalent to $25,117 today).
Have you priced a new Lariat F-150? I mean 80K plus. Fi someone doesn't want an EV that's cool, but the cost of all new trucks is insane. Unless someone gets like a Maverick which I think is why they are selling so well. Who knows...but more choices is fine by me.
@@drn13355 Oh I know. The industry convinced everyone they needed a truck, then kept increasing the prices. A F-150 today is what a Camry was 25 years ago, a family car. The difference being a Camry was affordable, fuel efficient, reliable and had great resale when you moved on from it. It actually made a lot of sense.
Remember bigger battery means longer charging times. Home would take 28 hours with a 35 amp 220 volt charger. Plug into a household 15 amp, expect 5.5 days to fully replenish. Level three chargers if you can find them still require a solid hour and a half to 80%.. Most chargers.

@@DrivenCarReviews No question; I am fully on board. I am concerned about America's love for massive vehicles. EV trucks are still pricey to operate compared to more efficient EV cars. Some people I have spoken to, don't understand the ins and outs. They just see a truck.
Way to much money for the average pickup driver, who are chevy fans, like me. First model year, remember the bolt first year😂😮😅😮. Seen videos here on the hummer which has a huge battery like this and it takes a very long time to charge even at high speed charging hubs.
Looks nice but to expensive range sounds nice until you pull anything and when the battery craps out it costs more than the vehicle is worth. Also fast charging will make the battery crap out sooner. Forcing people to buy new. So no electric for me.
All that power but no utility/camp mode. Vehicle won't stay on for more than an hour powering your stuff. What should we do, keep coming back to the truck to turn it off and on again? No dog mode? Why do other EV makers have this mode but Chevy doesn't? We need a lockable air conditioned cabin with 12V power for as long as we want. That's the entire point of EVs, so you can do that.
Can we talk about the elephant in the room? Tesla is asking $120k for the current loaded Founder’s Edition of the Cybertruck. What are you getting for $25k more? One could argue FSD has more capability across all roads. And you get access to Tesla’s superior Supercharger network. Otherwise? The Chevy seems to have a lot more flexibility in cargo carrying, and the massive battery nets you far more range. If you want to go as far in the CT, add another $16k to the CT price to get the range extender - eventually - and give up a massive chunk of your bed. Yes, the Chevy is left efficient. But I think a lot of buyers will look at price/range between Silverado and CT and see the Chevy as superior. Too bad Chevy ditched phone integration. I think many buyers will keep GM off their list until they wise up and add that back in. Otherwise, I think Chevy nailed it, even with the price. As Tom said, they hit the sweet spot. Curious to see how much lower priced lesser models will be.
I have a 2021 6.2, Camaro 2SS 1LE Track package, and it gives me 360 miles on the highways on a full tank and premium gas. If I run out of gas in a couple of minutes, I fill my tank and continue my adventure without having to wait for hours.
It’s sad that like rest of the car manufacturers forgot what pickups were used for. Impress me by dumping a tractor bucket of manure in the bed (warning better keep that precious sun roof closed) then haul it 50 miles. Then I still don’t think it’s worth it. Basically it’s I truly love the environment but I EV’s are far more damaging to it than any gas vehicle could ever do.
It is not about spending time to learn it, I want to use the system, Apple car play, I know. That must be the stupidest delete I have ever heard of. GM probably wants to share your info with insurance and credit companies. Stay away.

Wow - $96K+, 8,500 lbs and 700+ HP. Truly astounding figures. So will the insurance premium… Time will tell but I would not bet that this will find a large buyer market.
Insurance on my Rivian R1S (MSRP $98K) is only $1600/year for excellent coverage. Not always as bad as you think.
@@Aegisx5 Your insurance premiums should be "bad", based on repair and replacement costs. Instead, the rest of us get bent over
@@Thunderbolt-ws7qm it doesn't mean that at all.
Good review 👍
Too big, I think they missed an opportunity to make the Colorado EV, just as Ford missed with the Ranger.
I can’t get jiggy with this.

If someone’s actual usage is towing a travel trailer regularly then the EV won’t work. For everyone else the EV will beat the gas truck!

Whats the range when you tow max weight?
In the toilet.
About 220 miles.
Completely missed the dollar cost per range mile on this vs other EV pickups. This does *really* well in those terms.
I get the idea of coming in high, but the 350 mile battery, no rear steering and coil suspension would maybe have scared off fewer folks with the price tag, and weighed 1000+ lb less while having better payload capacity.
Yup, that model will come.
It’s too expensive and I’ll never afford it. But I’d love to have one of the WT trims.
So what’s the range when it’s 40 below outside?
Probably 100 miles or less lol
Cold doesn't have nearly the effect on range you think it does. The battery packs heat up under use. Leave it plugged in overnight, and it will start the day preconditioned.
interesting to see a real automotive journalist seated next to voelk the empty suit
@drivencarreviews Can you reach out to GM about adding a camp mode option to the HVAC. Seems like a real miss when the max time the HVAC will run Is 1 hour. With the pass through you could use the HVAC to heat/cool the bed for camping.
I'm not sure they listen to me but yeah, sure.
@@DrivenCarReviews thank you!!
8500 lbs?! I'm sorry, that's just unacceptable. Totally insane
Would it have camper ?
No CarPlay is nuts and will bite GM in the ass. It might not matter as much with trucks, but people who don’t give a shit about anything but efficiency, value and range also care about connectivity and features. They just bricked 60% of the US market. Watch it come back in an OTA update after they renegotiate with Google in 2 years.
GM, read my lips, WE DON’T WANT ONSTAR.
millions of evs are sold without carplay. Ive never used it so maybe I don't know what I am missing. What is so great about carplay?
Only a vocal minority cares about Carplay. Get over it.
I don't care if it goes 1000 miles on a double A battery..100k is too much!

Good video.
If that truck is 4 tons, imagine the damage it’s gonna do to the roads with only four standard wheels.
Or some sport in a Miata. These giant heavy vehicles are so American, they just suck in so many ways.
I would say the 80k pound semi's take care of most of the damage. If a road cant handle 8-9k pounds it wasn't built correctly. I haul a dump trailer that has max capacity of 14k pounds on top of the 5-6 pounds for my truck.
I want the GMC version of this, but my budget actually says to buy a Hertz Silverado EV next year.
Seen one on the road looked small like the Colorado
Omg, 100k and he says it is in the sweet spot. Insane
Considering the cost and capability of the competition, it is for EVs.
i will wait 1 or 2 years get it for 45k used.
Wait another few months and it'll be even less.

All of that but no NACS...insane.
For campers, the ability to lower the mid-gate would be useful for climate control.
Does it get it's own zip code......big beast it is.
I wonder how much insurance costs for one these?
96k for Chevy
I can drive over 650 in my truck per fill. Can be back on the road in less then 5 minutes
But you can't fill it at home. And gas costs a whole lot more.
How about Gm sells the WT truck to regular folks instead of reserving it for fleet only? Not paying 96k for a truck, that's ridiculous.
They will come down in price
Good time to preview this..not a fan of Cybertruck or Elon
Remember bigger battery means longer charging times. Home would take 28 hours with a 35 amp 220 volt charger. Plug into a household 15 amp, expect 5.5 days to fully replenish. Level three chargers if you can find them still require a solid hour and a half to 80%.. Most chargers.
Apparently EV fans don’t understand electricity or physics.

@@DrivenCarReviews durability, longevity, functionality in cold weather, fire potential…
With rapidly evolving battery technology (Toyota and Nissan are promising solid state), I think leasing an EV is the way to go.
@@DrivenCarReviews Give it some thought and come up with an answer, I can think of a few criterion. Do you know the answer?
@@MechayaAlta Hard to say right now. Typically the LG/GM cells have done really well when it comes to durability and longevity (once the Bolt issue was fixed). Cold weather is pretty universal across the board. I'm skeptical about SS packs happening in the near future but that's me.
The numbers just don’t work for volume sales. So without volume, why are we doing this?
Let's check back in a year and see how it's working.
All the talk of range is great, not enough talk about what it costs to “fill the tank” on the road or miles/kwh. Moving mass is moving mass, no matter the method of propulsion.
Still much cheaper to operate when charging at home, and nearly 85% of it is done there.
@@DrivenCarReviews No question; I am fully on board. I am concerned about America's love for massive vehicles. EV trucks are still pricey to operate compared to more efficient EV cars. Some people I have spoken to, don't understand the ins and outs. They just see a truck.
I am stuck on gas and if I was an ev guy, I would go with the hummer or riven
GM would be just fine with you choosing Hummer instead of Silverado.
100k for a pickup and 25/month for super cruise. What a rip off.
The battery can last 440 miles, but what about the truck?
440 mile range claimed... so we can expect 300?
Nice Nice Chevy Pickup Not Cheap 😁😁😁😉😁😉😁🎉🎉🎉🎉
Cybertruck is stupid. Elon musk is a dick.
Tesla and Rivian also don't have Android Auto or Apple Carplay, but no one ever says anything about that.
Well, good for GM for taking the time and doing it from the ground up. But 8.5K pounds? Eeek!
