  • One of the hottest trends to hit a flat top grill these days is the Smash Taco, which is just a cooler way to make a smash burger. We’re going to show you how you can do one at home on your grill, in a frying pan. As long as you’re with smashing company, you’re in good shape. We’re joined by Jonathan Pye of ‪@americandiningcreations6836‬, world traveler, award-winning chef and all around good dude, and we’re going to make our own takes on a couple different ways you can smash things up for your friends and family.

    Jonathan’s Take - World Cup Tacos
    Ingredients for World Cup Tacos
    • 1 lb of fresh ground beef
    • 1 package of flour tortillas
    • ½ lb of monterey cheese
    • 1 fresh red onion, diced
    • 1 bunch of cilantro, finely chopped
    • ¼ lb of Kimchi
    • 8 Eggs
    • 4 Tbsp of vegetable oil
    • 4 Tbsp Gochujang drizzle

    Directions for World Cup Tacos
    • Take your ingredients and break into eighths (2 tacos should add up to ¼ lb of meat)
    • Heat the vegetable oil on your grill over medium heat
    • Add red onions to grill, cook until translucent
    • Add ground beef until browned, keep chopping and stirring
    • Add cheese until melted, keep chopping and stirring
    • Move meat mixture aside and cook one side of a tortilla until it plumps
    • Meanwhile, cook an egg sunny side up on the griddle
    • Take the tortilla, and press onto your meat mixture for 1 minute
    • Remove taco, fold, add kimchi, cilantro, egg and drizzle
    • Take a bite and take on the world

    Matt’s Take - Danny Trejo Tacos
    Ingredients Overall
    • ½ lb ground ribeye or 80/20 beef
    • ½ lb ground chorizo
    • 5 shallots, diced
    • ½ stick of butter
    • 1 tsp Paprika
    • ½ C banana peppers, diced
    • ¼ lb sharp white cheddar (the sharpest you can find), shredded
    • ¼ lb Cotija cheese, shredded
    • Roasted corn salsa
    • 3 Tbsp vegetable oil
    • Blackberry/Chipotle Mexican cream (blend ¼ C black cherries and 1 chipotle pepper into 1 container of Mexican cream)

    Ingredients Roasted Corn Salsa
    • 3 ears of grilled corn, cooled and cut off the cob
    • ¼ red onion, diced
    • 2 Roma tomatoes, diced
    • 1 de-seeded jalapeno pepper
    • Juice of one lime
    • ¼ C of cilantro, diced

    Directions for Corn Salsa
    • Mix all ingredients evenly

    • Take your ingredients and break into eighths (2 tacos should add up to ¼ lb of meat)
    • Heat the vegetable oil on your grill over medium heat
    • Throw the butter and paprika onto the grill, mix up
    • Mix the ground beef and chorizo evenly
    • Add shallots and banana peppers to grill, cook until translucent
    • Add ground beef until browned, keep chopping and stirring
    • Add cheese until melted, keep chopping and stirring
    • Move meat mixture aside and cook one side of a tortilla until it plumps
    • Meanwhile, cook an egg sunny side up on the griddle
    • Take the tortilla, and press onto your meat mixture for 1 minute
    • Remove taco, fold, add corn salsa and Mexican cream
    • Get tough like our boy Danny Trejo and Trej a taco
